I have been taking the generic for Allegra (180mg), Fexofenadine 180mg, for about 2 years -- ever since I moved to middle-Virginia. I thought I had a cold that would not go away. The doctor put me on Allegra, and it did help, yet didn't stop, the horrible runny nose, watery eyes, etc. Around that same time, I started having horrible leg/feet cramps at night...so bad that my sleep is constantly interrupted with having to jump out of bed multiple times to walk off the cramp. My doctor prescribed Requip and, even on the strongest dose, the cramps would not go away. A pharmacist suggested I try Highlands Leg Cramp pills (w/quinine) and that helped reduce the severity and number of leg/feet cramps for a while. Now the cramping is back, full-strength, and I just began a desperate research of side effects for all the medications I am taking. Lo, and behold, I just read that others who are taking Allegra are experiencing this same symptom. Unfortunately I took my morning dose this a.m., but I will begin tomorrow not taking Allegra and hopefully that is all it takes to end these leg cramps. And, oh yes, I too have regular stomach cramps and diarrhea and have lost 20 lbs. without dieting. I'm now wondering if Allegra is also responsible for all of these unexplained "other things" going on with my body. I hope I won't be bombarded with bad side effects by going off the Allegra "cold turkey." However, anything is better than the leg cramping!

I have lost a significant amount of weight since I began taking Allegra D two years ago. I struggled with my weight since having two children and have found that since i started taking Allegra D I have increased energy and reduced appetite. I take it first thing in the morning with my coffee to jump start my day. I love this medication that not only helps relieve my allergys but helped me loose weigh and have energy while doing it.

I started taking Allegra about 2 weeks ago. It has definitely helped my seasonal allergies however, I have been very irritable, tearful, and have experienced menstrual-like cramping when it is not the appropriate time of the month. I am doing to discontinue taking it and see if the depressive symptoms improve.

I have taken Allegra-D for a year now and have noticed extreme mood changes. I have even lost motivation for daily duties. I seem more careless and lack energy. I find myself crying for no real reason at all. I too have felt the itchiness of skin, if I fail to refill my prescription in a weeks period.

I've had prescription Allegra for over three years now for my seasonal allergies. (Michigan in the spring can be such a pain. XD)
It does not seem to have the side effects Zyrtec had on me, which were headaches and dizziness, nor does it make me as drowsy as when they tried me on claritin.
The oddest thing Allegra does is flatten my hair, completely. My usually wavy, thick bouncy hair goes very flat and droopy, and maybe even a bit thinner whenever I absolutely have to take it on the worst of the spring days.
I also notice that when I discontinue the pills, my allergies appear to become even more severe afterwards, and on some occasions my body has started itching, which seems to indicate they DO cause a dependency.
Otherwise, Allegra seems to be very useful for keeping the symptoms at bay for the entire day, unlike the non-prescription stuff that just completely knocks you out.

Wow...sorry to hear about all these adverse side effects. To state the other side of the story, I've been taking Allegra D 12 hour formula for about 6 monhts now. I take it once a day...just before bedtime and I've had no problems falling alseep, no restlessness (I do get restless when I use other over the counter anthistamines), no headache, no backache, no dry mouth...in fact, when I stop taking it I notice my allergies and sinusitis get worse.

I have had a "reverse" side effect. I have been taking Allegra 60 mg for years, without any apparent side effects. Then I tried to discontinue the medication, and I started itching ALL over my body. The itching begins immediately, and will stop as soon as I resume the medication. This has happened on more than one occasion, when I tried to "quit". Is there any way off this stuff, or do you have to use it for life?

I have taken Allegra 60mg.2x daily for the last 2 years (regulary during allergy season) and have noticed that I have lost a considerable amount of hair! My hair has thinned so much, I do not want to continue taking this medication. I also have had mulitple earaches and more of the same symptomes ( side effects) other guest noted but no weight loss.

I do nor know if this has happened before, but just in case I want to share my body reaction to Allegra.
I do have Diversified Chronic Colitis.
Last Saturday I had a really bad allergic attack, and, I took 0NE ALLEGRA. BIG,BIG MISTAKE!
12 hours after taking it my intestines started to scream, Sunday I have 6 bowel movements and pain, pain is rare in my case, after 2 big surgeries on them I really do not have pain. Monday I lost count of my bowels movements.
Monday, after a very light breakfast, I almost soiled myself and this still going on. I have lost 6 pounds.
I went to the Dr. yesterday and she told me "please do not take allegra anymore, in your case I think it has cost a very bad inflamation in your whole digstive system."
It should be called "KILLEGRA" INSTTEAD OF ALLEGRAi HAVE . pOSTED 10/07/05

I have also experienced terrible lower back pain, and severe hives!!
About 2 days after I started taking Allegra, I began to break out in hives. They started on my wrists and ankles, and then they moved up my legs. Now I've got them on my back, arms, stomach, and even my eyelid!
It's unbearable.
I think I'd rather live with the sneezing from my allergies than suffer through the scratching and sleepless nights!
I'm 22 and when I wake up, I feel like I'm 90 because my back hurts so bad.
Allegra, I am done with you!
Good luck to anyone else who might take this medication.
My advice? Stick with Benadryl.

I started taking Allegra in Feb and by Mar noticed an itchy part of my scalp then started to lose hair on that spot. The bald spot is now getting bigger so i decided to stop my medication. I have made an appointment to see my doctor. This is a new medication but there may be an interaction with Tenormin that I've been taking.

I started taking Allegra at 8 p.m. on April 8, 2003, for seasonal sinus problems here in Michigan. After taking the second caplet at the same time the following evening (April 9), I awoke the next morning with a lower back ache. On April 10, after my third Allegra, the back pain was so severe I could not stand from a sitting position without assistance. By my fourth Allegra caplet on April 11, I also had a severe headache along with the increasing back pain. I had taken Allegra for approximately one week before I saw a local television ad for the medication stating that "possible" side effects included headache, cold symptoms and/or backache. I thought then that the possibility of the back pain being related to the Allegra was evident. I discontinued taking Allegra on April 15, 2003, and the backache is nearly gone. The slight headache remains, but responds to aspirin. It should be noted that I had a problem several years ago with Allegra-D causing severe head congestion and sinus pain. I would not recommend anyone taking this medication without knowing that the side effects are more than just "possible" .

If I take the 30 mg dose Allegra helps my allergies (mostly Alder and grasses, itchy, runny nose, chills and puffy eyes) and energy level. If I take 60 mg I get a severe, itchy, bumpy rash on my face and neck and into my hairline. If the low dose isn't enough to help my alleriges I guess I will just deal with the allergies instead of the rash.

My doctor prescribed Allegra to me because of a sore throat due to possible allergies and nasal passage swelling. I don't feel sick, just a bad sore throat. (strep test was negative) Anyways, i have had it for about 4 days, and finally took the medicine last night. My doctor warned me to take it during the day because it might make me a little hyper. So I took my first pill last night around 6 pm. Around 8 I noticed my face was a little warm, but other than that, I felt great. I was so hyper and anxious, that I was able to clean my entire house. (anyone seen 'Something about Mary' and the vaccum cleaner scene?) I finally laid down around 1 am only to be woken up with nausa that lasted for another hour. During all of this, i have had the worst case of dry mouth. It feels like someone has cotton in my mouth and blocking me from swallowing.
I am at work now, and I can't stop sneezing! My eyes are watering and my nose is running! I feel like I have a real bad sinus cold. All kind of ironic if you ask me! I thought this allergy medicine was supposed to help make you feel better.... (my throat still hurts by the way).... hmmmmmmm.

i began taking allegra regularly about two weeks ago and about that time an itching srea began on my right hip. now the itching hs spread to the back of the thigh, across my buttocks, the left thigh, and it has caused many sleepless hours. my new dermatologist said it was only dry skin that had to be rehydrated, so he sold me lipocream and gave me a prescription for halog. neither of these have been of much affect so far.]this the second day. he advised luke warm baths, certain soaps, etc. the rash has not diminished and is more like whelps, than eruptions. i am 74
and never had this manifestation caused by "dry skin". is it possible i am allergic to allegra? anyone can help!!!

Itching scalp and ears appear to be related to taking Allegra. It began last summer (2002) after starting Allegra for hayfever and allergies, but I didn't make the connection. Didn't take Allegra from approximately November, 2002 until April, 2003, and in hindsight, itch almost totally gone. Started on Allegra again in April 2003 when seasonal allergic symptoms began again. Scalp itch flared up immediately, and I made the connection to Allegra. Has anyone else experienced or reported this side effect?

I have been using Allegra for over 2 years. It worked for my allergy symptoms. There are side effects I experienced but didn't really make the connection until I started reading everybody else's experiences. I had headaches, ear aches and ear infections that wouldn't go away, leg cramps at night a foot cramps while driving. I was on several antibiotics for the ear infections. Severe headaches/brain fog at doses of 180. I tried an experiment by stopping the Allegra. Sure enough my ears have cleared up and no more leg & foot cramps. The down side is that my allergies are worse and I have been taking the old antihistamines Chlor-Trimeton & Benadryl.
