After my father died in mid-Oct.I had lost alot of weight due to my depression. My doctor immediately put me on amitriptyline. At first I didn't notice any side effects other than it got me to sleep at night.Of course I wasn't really noticing much of anything but then-all I did was sleep. I felt like my whole world was over-I thought I would die without my father...but I never did and that scared me more than actually dying, living in a world where there was no one to take care of me or love me like my father did-He was always my KNight in Shinning ARMOUR...My doc. kept increasing my dose upto 100mg and then one dayI just got up out of my bed and renewed my nursing license and went back to work after eight years of just being a mom and a college student. It wasscary but very exciting but I wouldn't have been able to without the help of the med. My mood was cheerful-my children even noticed a huge difference in my happy appearance it was great stuff......until I noticed that I had gained almost 45lbs. from Oct.to the end of Dec. And another 20 by Jan. I GOT FAT FAST!! The worst side effect of the med for me was that it made me crave chocolate and lots of it! I would wake up in the middle of the night and go bake chocolate cookies and then eat the whole batch all myself. My doc says that the tiny little pill couldn't be responsible for gaining 65lbs in three months. BUt he obvious ly hadn't done his research because I have since talk to many people who experienced the chocolate craving and still others who have also gained ALOT of weight. So if you want to be undepressed -it should do the job that is unless being rather over weight tends to make you depressed. LOL Can't win for loosing huh?

My prescription for Amitriptyline has suddenly been stopped after several months, on 50 mg. a night. The withdrawal symptoms are dreadful. Please can you help, as my doctor does not want to give me this anymore.
Thank you.

A little over a year ago, I had muratic acid pured on both of my bare feet, causing 2nd and 3rd dagree burns over 75% of my feet. This has caused irreverseable nerve damage, and poor blood circulation, and keeps me in pain 24/7. My doctor prescribed 25mg Amitriptyline, and said it would help with both the pain, and the sleep. Before that they had me on Neurontin, Hydrocodone, and Ultram (which does nothing for any type of pain, regardless of how minor). As far as the pain goes, it does help a little, but as for the sleep, it does not make me sleepy what so ever. Instead, it makes me feel wired out, like I got to be constantly doing something or I will go crazy, which is hard to do when standing and walking are both very painful. Has anyone else had this side effect from Amitriptyline?

I have been on 10 mg. Amitriptyline for almost 2 years for headaches. I've gained 28 pounds and counting. I just can't loose the extra weight while on the medication. I've tryed everything from Weight Watchers to Adkins without success. Has anyone else had simular problems with low doses?

my husband is taking 100mg. for( neuropathy) that is the diagnosis he was given. I'm not quite sure it's correct and i noticed that he seems to be very tired after taking this medication- he takes it at 6:00pm
He is also taking neurotin and other medication which supposedly does not interfere with the amitriptyline. he seems very low key, which isn't really his personality. thank you

I am 74 years old and have been taking 50 mg dose of Amitriptyline for 12 years and I take it two hours before bedtime.
Recently it has been causing sleep apnea. I am now taking 25 mgs, two hours before bedtime at 8pm and need to know what time should I take the second dose in the am? I took it this morning around 9am and was sleepy most of the morning. I am guessing this has to do with how long between the dose the night before and the am dose was taking.
How long between these 25 mg doses should I take them.
Thanks Much. D.
