500mg 3 times a day for 10 days, vomited once, have had a horrible headache that started day b4 yesterday, still kinda have it, comes in waves, sux real bad lol

i have Sinusitis, Bronchitis, and a severe respiratory infection.

i see some guy on here mad cuz the doctor didn't tell him he would have bad headaches, like the doctor was going to know in advance he would. this anti-biotic affects different ppl different ways, its really not his responsibility to go over every single side-effect this very common anti-biotic is going to have, thats why the pharmacy gives you a huge pamphlet informing you on the medication, if you would had read it then you would see that headache, diarrhea, and constipation are all common side-effects

i didn't read it however, until i came here and read what i read, which is comforting really cuz at least i know why i have the headache so bad, and why i lost my lunch yesterday, was actually worried maybe i had an infection in my brain and thats why i had it, i know, sounds dumb, but what can i say, im paranoid lol

I was prescribed a 10-day regimen of 500 mg capsules, 3 times/day for a tooth infection. First dose at 9:00 pm last night (Friday). Woke up seven hours later with intense itching back of the neck and inner part of both elbows. No other symptoms. Spreading across shoulders and stomach. I'm taking generic antihistamine and applying calamine lotion. No really relieving the symptoms but I'm hoping they will subside my 9:00 am this morning. I'm glad I don't have to try to work in this condition. No plans to take a second dose.

I started on a 10-day course six days ago for chronic sinus infection. Strange things started happening but I didn't connect it to the drug at first... first night, I kept waking up and having weird nightmares, very unusual for me. On the second day a headache from hell kicked in and lasted about two days. This was really awful, just bearable, but I still didn't connect it to the amox until a friend sent me the link to this page. It helped to know what was going on because the doc told me NOTHING, which really ticks me off. I've also been feeling very, very down and hopeless, also not like me, and the last couple of days I've had strange aches and pains all over my body. These feel like they're deep inside and unlike anything I've ever experienced. I'm a male in my 50's and generally avoid drugs and chemicals of all kinds. This just reminds me of what's wrong with doctors... all they know how to do is prescribe drugs and operate. Forgot to mention the constipation followed by diarrhea on the second and third days. Ugh.

i took amoxicillin for 3 days because of a tooth infection and on the 3rd day i went in to my dentist to get a root canal. after the root canal i experienced crazy headaches, nausea and vomiting. after 24 hours i started to feel better and of course i stopped taking all meds.

after all this i started getting really depressed and started thinking about death due to reading up on tooth infections spreading to the brain and heart. i don't know.. i wish i would've taken care of my teeth better. if i survive then it's a lesson learned.

I'll add to the ever growing list!

Im on a 10 day course of 500mg X 3 a day, for Eustachian tube dysfunction with secondary otitis media with effusion (basically, my right ear is stuffed!).

My pain started to reside at about day 5, although I started to become really weapy, miserable, restless, unable to sleep till 6am, not much of a appetite, super forgetful (I can't remember things I thought about 30 seconds ago) and my legs are kind achey.

I never really have had much of a problem with antibiotics but this one is killing me! 4 days to go! Wahooo!

18 yr old female here...This is my 5th day taking Amoxicillin, it was my first time taking it, didn't get a allergic reaction yet, this medication makes me feel nauseous all day, i can barely eat a whole plate of food, i only eat 1/3rd of it, i feel weak, depressed, unsteady, a little itchy, and i got gassy this morning and farted a lot lol, i had mild diarrhea, i think i might've gotten a yeast infection, and i just feel gloomy and quiet, i feel distant and i have to force myself to get out of bed and do anything, eating is the worst part i force myself to do, i also became sensitive to bright light and noise, and it made me feel unsteady like if i was going to pass out, i am using this medicine to treat my ear infection because i get vertigo from it. I have Menieres Disease...

I am very reluctant to take any medications, but needed something for a sinus infection that wouldn't go away after 2 weeks. Received 10 day dosage. Drug worked to clear it up, but experienced a noticeable oncoming of depression and emotional detachment from life. This drug may not be tracked for psychological side effects, which might explain the lack of forewarning by doctor's et al, but it was a clear cause and effect in my case.

I'm a 29-year-old male, and currently taking Amoxicillin for a bladder infection. This is the 4th day taking it (500mg / twice daily). So far, the side effects I've noticed are insomnia, nightmares (when I do fall asleep), gas, and have recently developed this very weak, achey sensation in the front of my shoulders. You when you've been walking or standing so long that your legs ache the next day and they feel worn out? That's the type of weak, achey feeling I can compare the sensation to. And it gets worse when if lay on my sides, so it becomes even more difficult to fall asleep on top of the insomnia. Good news is my bladder infection has seemed to vanish after only the second day of taking Amoxicillin, so I'm thankful for that, as the bladder infection was very painful and discomforting worse than these nagging side effects from Amoxicillin.

I went to the doctor two days ago, prescribed with amoxicillin for sinus infection (250mg 3x/day). I have asthma as well so the infection has hit me pretty hard. After taking my 4th dose last night there were noticible changes in my sinuses for the better, everything was clearing up, still a runny nose but now clear instead of green/yellow. Before taking the meds I had a terrible itchy throat as well from all the drainage and that is gone as well even though I'm still draining. Side effects last night were no fun though. I've had no appetite as it is, so I eat light before taking any meds at the least, had a yogurt and an apple before taking the meds and I don't know if it was the combination of food and antibiotics or just side effects, but I got a terrible feeling in my stomach like a burning sensation and was also nauseous...wasn't able to sleep for another 4 hours because I was going back and forth to the bathroom. Finally did get to sleep and woke up 6 hours later having to use the bathroom immediately upon waking and that was very unpleasant. A very high yellow diarrhea, and smelled horrible. Still not feeling better, have no idea what to eat and approaching my next dose...gah!

The first time I was given Amoxil was when I was 17 and nothing else would stop me from throwing up. Within a matter of hours after taking ONE tablet I stopped throwing up but became extremely agitated, had trouble breathing, couldn't sit still and this seemed to worsen as it became night time as I'd be lucky to get 2 hrs sleep across 3 nights. I'm now 23 and I fell ill again recently and was again prescribed amoxil-thinking it may not happen again i took it and once again was had insomnia for at least 3-4 days and felt very unstable. At night i will shake for hours. The worst side effect for me by far is the mental state that i go through. My doctor didn't seem to understand how only taking one tablet of amoxil could affect me so severely for such a period of time. After searching for side effects im relieved to know I'm not the only one.

Horrible experience with amoxicillin, which was prescribed for a nasty sinus infection. Major nausea, fatigue, feeling lightheaded and dehydrated. All I wanted to do was to sleep. Missed 2 weeks from work. The nausea was completely debilitating. But curiously, get hungry at the same time was feeling nauseated. When I do get some food, I have to force myself to eat it. Also had major headaches. Got sort of paranoid that something else was seriously wrong with me!
Have been off amoxicillin for a little over a week. Feeling VERY depressed and hopeless. I want so bad to get back to my normal life, but it is like I have no energy or desire to push on. I have to literally FORCE myself out of bed and to work. Very concerned here and do not want to have to start taking an antidepressant. Does anyone know how long these effects will last or what I can do? Doctor gave me an additional prescription for Cipro, but I am afraid to take it because I feel like I am trapped in a vicious cycle and these feelings will only get worse. I am not used to taking meds!!

I am a male in my 30s and I am predisposed to situational anxiety hypersensitivity and phase of life triggered depression. 90% of the year I am fine with no problems with depression or anxiety. I have had 6 treatments of amoxicillin over the last 2 years for sinus infections and wisdom tooth extractions. In each case, within 72 hours of the start of treatment, I experience constant depressed mood and hopeless and experience evening crying spells as a release from severe depression all day. In all 6 cases, within 48 hours of the last dose of amoxicillin, the depression subsides and my mood reaches a normal state. My doctor at the time did not attribute the depression to the antibiotic since I suspect it isn't listed in his PDR and did not show up with statistical significance in clinical trials. I don't go to that doctor any longer due to this and have a new doctor that has 20 years of experience and noted a lot of anecdotal evidence of amoxicillin triggering depression in those that might be predisposed to situational anxiety, panic attacks and/or stress/phase of life induced depression.

Astonishing! My 8-year-old daughter, whose age your 6-and 9-year- old perfectly bracket, began mentioning "depression" yesterday; a word we didn't know she KNEW.

It became a real concern at dinner tonight, when we had 2 favorites, French bread and broccoli, (and spaghetti, which she also likes). She wanted none of it, and said she was depressed and it was causing her not to be able to eat, though she said she had "eaten anyway" yesterday even though not wanting to. We have never discussed depression or its effects with her! She DID learn to speak long before her peers, so after stressing enormously during the meal, during which we asked her if there were "mean girls" (only one, especially mean, anyway; only a few mean, etc.) we were pretty upset, and she had red face & tears, all very unusual.

We DID wonder if this weekend's weekend's 1 a.m. trip to emergency room for strep throat and amoxicillin injection (she asks for injections, these last 3 years, being quite a food connoisseur, she can taste oral meds mixed with ANY tricky bait) but always got Rocephin; even one in each leg, last time, as her weight called for double injections, as it is apparently an unusually irritating injectable....So we questioned her closely about whether her throat or any part of her still hurt, or if she felt sick. Negative. (as I write this, she informs us she was depressed from Thursday; she received injection at 1:45 a.a.m. in the wee hours of Thursday morning)

Back to narratie: we had been gratified for ONE simple injection this time, and "--cillin" part of drug name, plus familiar milky oil suspension appearance of intra-muscular drug reminded us of OUR days of painful but unusually effective "plain vanilla" penicillin shots, which we reassured her about (yeah, we've paid our dues too, daughter) after the typically achy injection.

By dinner tonight, our daughter seemed so upset, and yet so unusually grown up in saying she was "depressed" and that she had prayed that it end, to no aviail, I got up from dinner and Googled "amoxicillin, depression" and VOILA, "two daughters" response and next response so amazingly similar, I printed them and took them to dinner table, to have her read aloud to us complimenting her on how grown up she was to describe herself as depressed. (Also, she received 5 minutes of reading towards going to Fiesta Texas on a reading program! but, how many kids will have "Amoxicillin and depression--5 minutes" on their reading logs, I wonder...Her pre-med sister called while she was reading, another treat! God is good.

Thanks for taking time to post this! I am only now learning that there is no need to argue or feel alone, confused for long about much of anything anymore, or rely on just one friend or medical practitioner--Until they censor the 'net, just GOOGLE IT. Bless you. -- And, any men, google "bladeless vasectomy" or "******" and read my 8-year long compendium of vasectomy side effects doctors don't know or don't talk about.

Both my children, girls ages 6 and 9 are currently taking 800 mg. a day of Amoxicillin for double sinus infections. My girls are normally upbeat, happy kids and I have noticed that over the last several days they seem gloomy, quiet, fatigued and frankly rather depressed. As this is unusual for them, I can't help but think it is the medication. I can't wait until they finish the dose.

I took amoxil 2 weeks ago for sinus and the third night I was vomiting, the runs, bad aches and pains all over. I was so sick I actually thought I caught food poisoning. I started the amoxil again three days ago and today have had bad ached and pains all over my body like flew symptoms so now I have worked out that it must not agree with me. I have stopped taking them tonight as I don't want to vomit again. These surely can't be good for you. I will not take them again and will mention this to my doctor so he can note this down so I am not prescribed them again.

Have had the flu for 6 days, taking 500 mg 3 times a day for accompanying bacterial infection on the chest. I had 40ยบ temperature for the first four days felt awful due to that but now on reflection I believe the amoxicillin is causing mood problems; feeling furious about insignificant things, crying triggered by sad news stories (I am a man) waves of hopelessness and depression, today I sat in the kitchen and wept feeling pessimistic and overwhelmed by life.

The first 2 days that I felt ill I had no negative mood, just fever and headache, before I started taking the antibiotic. Also I think the first dose caused me to vomit.

My Husband has taken this all his life of course like many of us have as a child and teen. He is now 27 and started this on Tuesday for a sinus/upper resp. infection. Evening of day 1 with first dose and day 2 nothing. Day 3 he started itching and didn't know why. Day 4 lips, hands were swollen. Tongue slightly swollen. Hives started on shoulders and inside of thighs that night. Day 5 swelling down after starting benadryl but hives all over body or rash all day off and on. Day 6 back to the doctor who said that he had an allergic reaction and was now allergic to Penicillin.
Strange but it is true that you can be allergic even after taking it for so many years beforehand.

I was prescribed amoxicillin for a sinus infection. (3 x 500mg / day) The good news is that the sinus pain was relieved within two days. On the other hand, I developed several side effects, which seem consistent with other reports I've read on this site. These include the common complaints of diarrhea and upset stomach. In addition, after about two days I started to experienced symptoms of a fever, including general body aches, slight head ache, chills and skin sensitivity, especially on my back. The strange thing is, I don't have a fever (temp. 97.9F). These symptoms seem worse at night. I suppose I could have some type of virus along with the sinus issue, but it seems strange that the onset of symptoms was so coincident with the amoxicillin treatment.

I started question the effect 2-500mg twice daily was having on me after a stomach ache the last two days. Not putting two and two together until now, but isn't that over prescribing? I'm taking 2000mg a day all together! Well, today my lower abdomen starting with a shooting pain, I felt like I had gas and had to go to restroom. The pain got worse as I sat on toilet, not able to do anything. I soaked in hot tub as long as I could and went to lay on bed, trying not to move, after while I fell asleep. After I woke the pain in still there a little bit , but bearable. I noticed my left ovary in swollen and tender.

Prescribed for chest infection. Chest does feel clearer. However... ghastly side effects of, extreme tiredness, tearfulness/mild depression. Strangely no digestive problems as i read this is the most common side effect. I just feel very weak and miserable. suppose it could be combination of infection still lingering, but am sure most of how crap i feel is down to the Amoxicillin.

Generally begin to experience relief from sinus infections after 5 doses, nearly 24 hours' worth (of 250mg 3X daily). Amoxicillin typically exacerbates viral/fungal type symptoms that occur when I have any kind of infection or lowered resistance (two or three small pimples on tip of nose, itchy scalp, mild tinea pedis between 4th and 5th toes which I never get otherwise, and slight flaring of a nearly invisible planter's wart which I've had since I was a teen. Amoxicillin also provokes a mild depression similar to pms symptoms, potential weepiness if provoked, and, in the last two years (perhaps because I may be--at 51-- approaching menopause), hot flashes. Because I can develop extremely serious sinus and/or impacted sinus infections, I'm glad for various antibiotics (1-3 times annually), but I can't say that I always like the side affects.

Two weeks ago I came down with a really bad case of strep throat. It started out with headaches (which I thought were migraines), then I got the sore throat, and by the time I was able to get to the doctor it was very severe and they put me on 875 mg of Amoxicillin twice a day. I started to feel better and the sore throat went away very quickly. I'm generally I very healthy person and have no allergies, so I did not even consider that any adverse side effects were possible for me. However, about 8 days into the 10-day cycle, I came home in the evening and began to change when I noticed red spots on my chest and shoulders. I quickly made the connection and got on Benadryl, but the rash spread quickly. The next morning I woke up with swollen lips and swelling around the eyes, as well as small reddish swollen areas all over my face. By Sunday it had spread to my legs, where it was by far the worst. It is now Wednesday, and it has faded a great deal above the waist, but it looks horrible and discolored from the waist down and my doctor told me it might take "a while" (a week? more?) to clear up completely. I have also noticed that I've been bruising very easily (I have marks all over my shoulder from the strap of my shoulderbag, which is not even very heavy, and I do NOT bruise easily under normal conditions.) It's making me pretty miserable and I can't stop looking at my legs and wondering when they will look normal again.

Also, I got the upset stomach (not too badly though) and a mild yeast infection.

I wish doctors would not be so free and easy will antibiotics.

Within 30 minutes of taking Amoxicillin I was dizzy and feverish. I went to bed early and had night sweats all night. Woke up the next morning with diarrhea and dizziness and sharp pain in the head. Diarrhea continued all day every 30 or so minutes, even after doctor recommended stopping the tablets. Fell asleep at work. Had to spend the next day lying in bed sleeping and only drinking water to recover. Surprised me big time as I only took the medication for a mild ear infection. Still not better yet after a day in bed, but have to return to work tomorrow so I'll see how it goes.

I am taking the drugs as a precaution as I have had pains in my head surrounding my cochlear implant site. I have had my cochlear implant eleven years with no problems but I have developed very bad stabbing pains in my head. Not sure if this is a side effect of Amoxicillin or from the sinus infection. Either way I feel like hell. I was prescribed a 10-day regimine of 500 mg capsules, 3 times/day for sinusitis. Day 1 with all 3 capsules, there were no side effects at all. After the 1st dose on day 2, I noticed that I felt hot and weak. I looked under my shirt and my skin looked sunburned. I checked further and found my whole body from neck to toe was bright reddish, like sunburn. I immediately discontinued thinking I must be having an allergic reaction. The next morning, the "sunburn" changed to thousands of little red dots all over. I called my doctor who confirmed I am now allergic to Amoxicillin, even though I used it in the past for probably 10 times with no side effects at all.

After taking amoxicillin, inevitably I get a yeast infection. but there's only one way I've found to get around that. I know it sounds yucky, but it's better than spending $15 and many days with that stuff in you than this. Get nonfat, plain, low sugar if you can find it, yogurt. Mix equal parts water and yogurt (about a cup) into a hot water bottle/douche (get them at pharmacies). Douche anytime there is the slightest twinge of a yeast infection. It will give you back your life again. I promise. p.s. acidophilis pills don't work for me, i think the strain is too strong by now.
