Within 30 minutes of taking Amoxicillin I was dizzy and feverish. I went to bed early and had night sweats all night. Woke up the next morning with diarrhea and dizziness and sharp pain in the head. Diarrhea continued all day every 30 or so minutes, even after doctor recommended stopping the tablets. Fell asleep at work. Had to spend the next day lying in bed sleeping and only drinking water to recover. Surprised me big time as I only took the medication for a mild ear infection. Still not better yet after a day in bed, but have to return to work tomorrow so I'll see how it goes.

I was prescribed a 10-day regimine of 500 mg capsules, 3 times/day for sinusitis. Day 1 with all 3 capsules, there were no side effects at all. After the 1st dose on day 2, I noticed that I felt hot and weak. I looked under my shirt and my skin looked sunburned. I checked further and found my whole body from neck to toe was bright reddish, like sunburn. I immediately discontinued thinking I must be having an allergic reaction. The next morning, the "sunburn" changed to thousands of little red dots all over. I called my doctor who confirmed I am now allergic to Amoxicillin, even though I used it in the past for probably 10 times with no side effects at all.

Two weeks ago I came down with a really bad case of strep throat. It started out with headaches (which I thought were migraines), then I got the sore throat, and by the time I was able to get to the doctor it was very severe and they put me on 875 mg of Amoxicillin twice a day. I started to feel better and the sore throat went away very quickly. I'm generally I very healthy person and have no allergies, so I did not even consider that any adverse side effects were possible for me. However, about 8 days into the 10-day cycle, I came home in the evening and began to change when I noticed red spots on my chest and shoulders. I quickly made the connection and got on Benadryl, but the rash spread quickly. The next morning I woke up with swollen lips and swelling around the eyes, as well as small reddish swollen areas all over my face. By Sunday it had spread to my legs, where it was by far the worst. It is now Wednesday, and it has faded a great deal above the waist, but it looks horrible and discolored from the waist down and my doctor told me it might take "a while" (a week? more?) to clear up completely. I have also noticed that I've been bruising very easily (I have marks all over my shoulder from the strap of my shoulderbag, which is not even very heavy, and I do NOT bruise easily under normal conditions.) It's making me pretty miserable and I can't stop looking at my legs and wondering when they will look normal again.
Also, I got the upset stomach (not too badly though) and a mild yeast infection.
I wish doctors would not be so free and easy will antibiotics.
