Horrible experience with amoxicillin, which was prescribed for a nasty sinus infection. Major nausea, fatigue, feeling lightheaded and dehydrated. All I wanted to do was to sleep. Missed 2 weeks from work. The nausea was completely debilitating. But curiously, get hungry at the same time was feeling nauseated. When I do get some food, I have to force myself to eat it. Also had major headaches. Got sort of paranoid that something else was seriously wrong with me!
Have been off amoxicillin for a little over a week. Feeling VERY depressed and hopeless. I want so bad to get back to my normal life, but it is like I have no energy or desire to push on. I have to literally FORCE myself out of bed and to work. Very concerned here and do not want to have to start taking an antidepressant. Does anyone know how long these effects will last or what I can do? Doctor gave me an additional prescription for Cipro, but I am afraid to take it because I feel like I am trapped in a vicious cycle and these feelings will only get worse. I am not used to taking meds!!

My Husband has taken this all his life of course like many of us have as a child and teen. He is now 27 and started this on Tuesday for a sinus/upper resp. infection. Evening of day 1 with first dose and day 2 nothing. Day 3 he started itching and didn't know why. Day 4 lips, hands were swollen. Tongue slightly swollen. Hives started on shoulders and inside of thighs that night. Day 5 swelling down after starting benadryl but hives all over body or rash all day off and on. Day 6 back to the doctor who said that he had an allergic reaction and was now allergic to Penicillin.
Strange but it is true that you can be allergic even after taking it for so many years beforehand.

Two weeks ago I came down with a really bad case of strep throat. It started out with headaches (which I thought were migraines), then I got the sore throat, and by the time I was able to get to the doctor it was very severe and they put me on 875 mg of Amoxicillin twice a day. I started to feel better and the sore throat went away very quickly. I'm generally I very healthy person and have no allergies, so I did not even consider that any adverse side effects were possible for me. However, about 8 days into the 10-day cycle, I came home in the evening and began to change when I noticed red spots on my chest and shoulders. I quickly made the connection and got on Benadryl, but the rash spread quickly. The next morning I woke up with swollen lips and swelling around the eyes, as well as small reddish swollen areas all over my face. By Sunday it had spread to my legs, where it was by far the worst. It is now Wednesday, and it has faded a great deal above the waist, but it looks horrible and discolored from the waist down and my doctor told me it might take "a while" (a week? more?) to clear up completely. I have also noticed that I've been bruising very easily (I have marks all over my shoulder from the strap of my shoulderbag, which is not even very heavy, and I do NOT bruise easily under normal conditions.) It's making me pretty miserable and I can't stop looking at my legs and wondering when they will look normal again.

Also, I got the upset stomach (not too badly though) and a mild yeast infection.

I wish doctors would not be so free and easy will antibiotics.
