I have been on Atenenol for 5 months and I have suffered from the following. I have had nausea, depression, feeling tired all the time, can't sleep at night, and sometimes my hands and feet are swollen. I didn't think it was from the atenenol, but after reading some of the other ppl's side effects I am starting to think it is caused by the meds. I am on it for hpb, and I am only 30.

I have been taking Atenolol 25mg./day for 5 1/2 months for high blood
pressure. I am a 63 year old female. The side effects for me are
tingling in my fingers, which is especially annoying at night, and
muscle pain in my legs. I did not associate either of these effects
with the drug until I researched it on the internet and learned that
they might be associated with atenolol. I have since reduced the
dose in half and am experiencing less tingling and muscle pain

I am trying to wean off of Atenolol bc it makes me tired and I feel as though my metabolism has slowed down. I have been on it for one year due to a fast heart beat. I did not have hbp when prescribed and I don't now. I was suffering from anxiety due to katrina and quit smoking. sometimes I feel sick to my stomach. has anyone gotten sick to their stomach from this med. also, I found that if I take it at night I am not tired during the day but I do have strange dreams.
my real question is how can I wean myself off this drug. I am afraid that if I stop it I will be somewhere and my heart will jump out of my chest.

I've been taking atenolol 6 months now and my basic complaint is the coughing. I have to practically sit up in bed at night. At first I thought it was just the usual summertimer postnasal drip causing the cough so I put up with it. Have to take ricoloas or some kind of drops all day to keep the cough down. I've heard other pills like this all come with the cough. If there is another that DOESN'T maybe someone can get back to me a nd let me know.

I have a doctor who isn't very communicative but if I complain about something he does what he can to try something else. This time, however, I'm doing my own research and so far have come up with zip as to any replacement. In fact, my blood pressure isn't much better. Was in the office for another reason the other day and it read 138/100.

Thanks!

I am taking 10mg of Lisinopril every morning and 25mg of ATENOLOL each evening. Initially it stopped my anxiety attacks and lowered my blood pressure but I found myself getting tired quick and falling asleep for long periods. I have only been on this medication recently because of the anxiety attacks but in the last two days I have noticed my feet have swollen and am unable to put my shoes on. Needless to say, after reading some of the comments on the side effects of ATENOLOL, I am going to give it a miss and report back to my doctor.

Atenolol has worked great to lower my blood pressure for the past 10 years. No problems, no side affects. A great med for me.

I have been on 25mg of Atenolol for two years now and I do notice theres times I have numbness in the toes. I'm also getting cramps in the legs. It's some thing I never had before taking this medication.

My doctor put me on Atenolol (50MG) about six months ago. After one week I was so dizzy, restless and my feet were numb and swollen. I was always tired but couldn't sleep. My blood pressure fell to 90/46 and I though I was going to pass out. I cut the pill in half and take it with my breakfast. I do notice the difference. My blood pressure is good, I don't have the dizzy spells and I got my ambition back. I think these doctors start a person off on to high of a dose at the beginning of a new pill. There's times I skip it for a day. My life seems much better now.

Border line blood pressure, could not take full tablet. With only 1/2 tablet somedays I feel so much pressure in my chest as if someone is sitting on my chest. Head pressure & shortness of breath.

Atenolol decreases the heart rate. If your heart rate slows down, you will feel tired and lazy and lack energy. Take your blood pressure and your pulse and keep a diary and show your Doctor. You may need a dose adjustment.
