Warning to Avelox users
As I am reading all these posts I am very alarmed. I just got out of the hospital because of an allergic reaction to Avelox. I developed a potentially fatal reaction called Stephan Johnson Syndrome. Please google this, as it might save your life. From what my doctors said, Avelox is a major offender of this syndrome. After reading the posts I see that a great many of you have the same symptoms I did. Even if the side effects don't seem that serious, stop taking the medication right away and consult your doctor. People who are most in danger are people with low immune systems and people who are allergic to other medications. PLEASE, I beg all of you to check this out, it can cause death in a matter of days. Fortunately for me we got to it early. Best of luck to all :)

I've never been allergic to any medications. Within 30 minutes of taking this pill, a huge bubble formed in my mouth on the inside of my lip, I started sneezing like crazy, my throat was itching and my skin was very tingly. I called my pharmacist, he instructed me to take Benadryl. I did and about an hour later the effects had subsided with the exception of my skin still feeling a little strange. This was very scary to me! Today I was telling my m-i-l about it because she too had an allergic reaction to a medication about 3 weeks ago and come to find out - the medicine she reacted to was Avelox! Her reaction was SEVERE, requiring an overnight stay in the hospital. She couldn't breathe and passed out. This seems like a drug that is way too dangerous to be on the market. I've never reacted like this to anything and my mother-in-law almost DIED because of it. What is going on?!

For some of us, it's not so terrible! I was given Avelox a year and a half ago for a sinus infection because I am allergic to penicillin and its close relatives. While I would agree that it made me fee a bit peculiar--lightheaded, vaguely nauseated and just not "right" the entire time I took it, that was the extent of it. After 48 hours my sinus infection had improved noticeably and after 96 hours I felt virtually cured, as far as my sinuses went. As one must with antibiotics, I continued the full round of 7 or 10 days even though I was suffering some definite but tolerable Avelox side effects. Not finishing your prescription increases drug resistance in bacteria so I felt I should finish it.
I have another sinus infection now and started Avelox today. I am cautiously optimistic that I can tolerate the mild to moderate side effects again. I don't like the way it makes me feel, but it's better than feeling like my entire face is going to explode from the sinus pain! Given my penicillin allergy, I'm stuck with few other appropriate options.
If you are getting a rash from this medicine, that is clearly an allergic reaction--not the same thing as a side effect per se--and a sign that you should stop at once.

My doctor had me on a 10-day course of amoxicillin for a sinus infection. By the last day, I had contracted pneumonia and the sinus infection had rebounded until it was worse than ever. So, like many others who have posted here, my doctor prescribed Avelox. Fortunately I read the entire printout from the pharmacy, including all warnings of potential side-effects, both minor and serious. I grew concerned on day three when I had numbness and tingling all down my right arm, and following the warnings, called my doctor. Fortunately, my doc is a smart guy: he told me to stop the course of Avelox immediately, and if the nerve symptoms returned, I should go to the ER.
Some of the symptoms others here have mentioned -- many far, far more serious than mine -- seem neurological, as if the drug is also messing with brain function rather than just causing an allergic reaction (especially the seriously altered mental states).
A symptom that has occurred occasionally during the past weeks since I stopped the Avelox is an odd tremor in my eyes when I'm tired. My eyeballs shake quickly and sharply from side to side for about 10 seconds at a time. I had a similar reaction many years ago, when my doctor at the time prescribed a high dose of Paxil (anti-anxiety). The difference was that then the eye tremors stopped two days after I stopped the drug; the symptoms now started long after the Avelox was out of my system.
I linked to this webpage specifically because I was wondering how common adverse reactions to Avelox are. God knows we need some new antibiotics to fight the increasingly more resistant strains of bacteria. But if our bad experiences are as common as I fear, even though some people experience wonderful results, this is one drug that should be prescribed with extreme care. Not only that, but both the physician and the pharmacist should be especially diligent in explaining the more dangerous adverse effects so that patients (who don't always have a half hour to read through hundreds of single-spaced lines of instructions on drug sheets) are well-informed enough to participate in our own care. If that just means telling our doctors that the risks outweigh the benefits, please prescribe something else, so be it.

I took Avelox for the first and LAST time today!! I have had 4 ear infections in the last 4 months. My sinus drains into them every nite. My ent prescribed Avelox b/c she want to kick the heck out of this infection. I was abit nervous about taking a different antibiotic because within the last 2 yrs I've developed food allergies. I took it and drank a big glass of water with it. Very soon after I started to feel strange. My throat felt tingly and I felt very anxious and thought I was going to throw up. I calmed down enough to get my son to a neighbors house and get to the ER. Of course I had to wait there I did get a hold of my anxiety. Right below my adam's apple inside my throat felt like the pill was stuck there. I would feel like it was a burp or gas that just couldn't make it out. My stomach felt queasy. I thought I might puke in the waiting room. 4 hours later I am home and feel like crap. My body is achy. My head feels like I've taken percaset(sp) I'm shakey and tired. Climbing the stairs it hard, my legs feel like sandbags. The dr. in the er said he doubted it was an allergic reaction because of how fast it came on. Reading about others experiences makes me think the DR. is wrong!! I did take it on an almost empty stomach. My co-pay on this crap was $55!!!!

I share the scare - I developed a bacterial infection after surgery and had an allergic reaction to first two antibiotics so was given Avelox. About an hour after the 1st dose my eyes became bloodshot, my joints ached like I had the flu or severe arthritis and I started having jolts of pain in different places, legs, groin, neck. I became disoriented and developed tiny blisters on bottom of feet, behind knees, on neck they faded, and at base of my fingers. The second dose caused severe joint and neck pain, disoriented feeling and again blisters. My doctor had me break the pills in half to take twice a day with benadryl. I also took large dose of Ibuprofen an hour after taking Avelox. That helped lessen severity of side effects. Final straw was the fifth dose - took before sleeping, woke at 4am and could not move from neck pain. My husband pulled me up so I could use the bathroom with me crying from pain. Sitting on the commode, I threw up and started to pass out. I managed to get downstairs and take an 800 mg. Ibuprofen and passed out for about 30 seconds. We went to ER. The attending physician decided I was having a muscle spasm and dismissed my fear it was the drug. They gave me a muscle relaxer and sent me home. I slept like the dead. My doctor called me that afternoon and told me to stop the Avelox immediately. You can imagine after missing 5 weeks of work for surgery, then having to miss three days last week and who knows this week how bummed I am. I am 46, have a wonderful family (a husband and 4 kids), a job I love, and life is good. I hope my body can recover soon as I am not used to inactivity. I cannot seem to function normally anymore.

I suffer from chronic sinusitis and rhinitis. When I develop severe sinus pain and headaches, I break down and get antibiotics from doctor. I had an allergic reaction to Levaquin (hives), so the doctor put me on Avelox. It worked well and I've probably had it 4-5 times in the past 2-3 years. I had one round of it a couple of weeks ago and was fine. However, yesterday I was suffering from the pain, nausea, etc again so the doctor gave me another round of Avelox. Within 15 minutes my ears and throat started itching, then the palms of my hands started itching like crazy and turned bright red. Itching and rash spread to my underarms, then to my chest and back. I was feeling a little tipsy too. I knew what it was so I took Benadryl right away and called the doctor. He confirmed the allergic reaction and took me off the drug, said to take the Benadryl, drink a lot of water and no meds until this is out of my system. Bottom line: an allergic reaction can occur at any time, even if you've had the drug before. I keep Benadryl on hand at all times, just for that reason.

I took Avelox April 2008 and my life changed after taking the first dose. I had read on the bottle it could cause dizziness, so when I began to feel intoxicated and feel like I was walking sideways, I wasn't too concerned. After I took the first dose, I had a preop appointment in the afternoon. The doctor asked me if I had ever been told I had a heart irregularity. He said it was an occasional skip and he wasn't that concerned. I have physicals every year at which time an EKG is done, I just had my physical mid February and my heart rate was perfect. The surgery was scheduled 1 week later. That morning I took the last dose of Avelox, as I was being wheeled in for surgery, the nurse watched me go into A Fib. Surgery was not going to happen and I was admitted to the hospital for 9 days. I was on a 24 hour monitor and my heart rate was changing so fast they couldn't even tell me what was going on. After many different drugs to control my rate I was discharged and scheduled for a cardioversion, hoping that would get my heart rate back in a sinus rhythm. It worked for about 20 minutes and I was again admitted to the hospital for four days and put on a new medication. I went from being completely healthy to A Fib, kidney and lung problems. As of today I am still dealing with all the above. I had a cardiac ablation in October, hoping that would fix the problem. I was doing OK for about 3 weeks and since then I am still in A Fib. Currently I am wearing a 24 hour monitor to record any events. I'm not sure what the next step is . . . I believe with all my heart that Avelox is responsible. My life went form being completely healthy and exercising everyday to being exhausted most of the time and even going to the grocery store is a tremendous effort.

My Mom (87) who was in great health given her age, was given Avelox for a urinary tract infection. She has developed severe side effects that include shortness of breath, chest pressure, (not chest pain)swelling of her esophagus & eye lids, confusion/agitation, dry mouth, complaints of twitching in her mouth.
The worse case of all the symptoms has been the swelling of the esophagus and eyelids. Her eyes are swollen shut and she labors to swallow & talk. Eating is a monumental task.
She is currently hospitalized and the medical team seems to be having a hard time accepting this as an allergic reaction to the Avelox. They have run series of tests to look for other things such as pnuenomina, heart issues and stroke issues. So far the tests have revealed nothing out of the ordinary. One would think that they would start treatment with steroids or another anti-allergic treatment but they seemed convinced that the Avelox is a non issue because she only took 2 doses @ 400 mg each starting Saturday & Sunday (11/29-30). This ordeal started Sunday early evening.
If anyone else has experienced specifically swelling of the throat & eyes please post!

November 14 I was given Avelox for a sinius and ear infection. My husband had taken the sam medication 4 weeks earlier and had absolutely no side effects what-so-ever. When my infection reaccured my doctor decided to give me Avelox since it was a stronger antibiotic. I took my first pill prior to going to bed. I woke up Saturday with a headache and a general feeling of being agitated and moody. I took the second pill and as the day went on I began to feel some tingling in my arms but contributed to a neuro test that I had had 2 weeks prior where they shock your nerves. The tingling got worse by that evening (Saturday). Sunday I took my third pill still relating the the tingling to possible nerve damage from the EEG. I had to keep shaking both arms from time to time because I was also experiencing some numbness. I took my 4 pill on Monday early am. By 9:00 the tingling was extensive and the numbness was also becoming more regular. During all this time I was having intermittent severe headaches as well. By Monday night I was going crazy with both my arms tingling constantly and then my left hand got really heavy, I reach up to rub my arm and realized I could not feel my shoulder. I got a needle and pricked it and could feel nothing. This brought back a severe allergic reaction I had back in the 80's to Vistaril. It clicked in my brain at that point that it was not nerve damage from the EEG but possibly an allergic reaction. I immediately went to the web and keyed in allergic reaction to Avelox and found this site. I was stunned. Needles to say I did not take the pill Tuesday and went straight to my physician. He was hard pressed to believe that my symptoms were being caused by the Avelox. I even brough copies of some of the entries on this site. He did not want to accept that but changed my antibiotic and said that if it was the medication then the symptoms would start to subside by Wednesday. Wednesday afternoon both arms were considerably better and by Thursday mid-day I was back to normal. I did tell my physician that although he might not be convinced I was 100% positive that it was an allergic reaction. I will be calling him today to let him know that I was right.

I'm a 47 yr old male who has constant sinus problems and recently( 2 weeks ago)had a bad sinus infection. I exercise regularly and am in pretty good shape(or so I would like to think). I have never had a bad allergic reaction that I can remember to anything. I was given a 10 day supply of Avelox to clear it up as I was supposed to go in for a sinus operation tomorrow. While I was on the Avelox last time, I don't remember experiencing any significant problems and I wasn't the best patient. I doubled up on doses in the beginning figuring it would work faster, took it on a empty stomach, drank a few beers over the weekend, etc. I went off of it a week ago and then this week I started to feel some cold symptoms coming on. Then yesterday at my pre-op visit my ENT gave me 2 pills (1 per day) to take prior to the surgery to "be on the safe side". I took one at 5 PM last night on an empty stomach and headed off to martial arts class. By the time I got there 20 minutes later I was feeling funny. I tried to work out but I felt lightheaded and had severe stomach pains. Then I had a hard time catching my breath under the slightest exertion. I normally jog 2-3 miles a couple of times a week with no problems so I was concerned. I left class and barely made it home. The only reason I didn't have a full blown anxiety attack was because I have suffered with them for years and recently feel I have been able to control them better. When I got home I was beet red from head to toe and my wife wanted me to go to the ER. I realized that it was a reaction to the Avelox and basically rode it out but it took about 3-4 hrs before I felt better again. I'm still not right today and I canceled my surgery for tomorrow. Now the ENT doctor wants to put me on something else before the surgery and I'm wondering if that's going to cause any problems.

Oct. 9,2008. I was given Avelox Monday Oct 6,2008 from my family Dr for a sinus infection . I went home & took the prescribed dose of 1, 400 mg tablet, and15 minutes later I felt a burning sensation coming from my toes to my face , I was having problems breathing , I suffer from asthma when I have any kind of sinus or cold type illness. ,I thought that was what was happening, but the inhaler did not help,, I couldn't stand up ,I couldn't sit up , I couldn't talk , I went into seizures,& started puking . I honestly thought I was dying , I couldn't even call 911 , thank God for memory call, my mother called 911 as I was home alone with my 5 year old granddaughter .
I was so incoherent ,I couldn't tell the EM"s what happened, all I could get out was anti.. The EM's thought I was either overdosed or having cardiac arrest . In the ER,the doctor's gave me all the anti allergens ,and I started coming out of it. I was soaked w/ sweat from the burning, I couldn't
speak right, it was if I had a stroke . My legs and body hurt so bad, I never experienced this much pain . 4 days latter I still am not alright . My entire body was red , I was so afraid to take even an Advil the next day . Then I heard the ER Dr. told my husband they're having a lot of problems w/ this Avelox! I asked an attorney if this is a suit and he said not unless it becomes a class suit! How on earth did the FDA approve this stuff ???
I would tell everyone ,this stuff is not worth the risk ! I came close to dying over a sinus infection ! DO NOT USE THIS AVELOX !

First let me say, i have taken Avelox twice before and had NO side effects whatsoever! It worked great on my pneumonia the last two times (a yr apart) and i recovered very quickly. However, this time was different. I usually only have pneumonia once a yr Jan or Feb time frame, this time i have gotten it thanks to an unthinking oaf (who knew we have 7 little ones at home) and came to visit with a rip roaring sinus infection. I get pneumonia when everyone else gets sinus infections, who knows why? This time my dr. prescribed the usual Avelox for 10 days and the very first dose i was ok for the first hour and after that, wham i was in the bathroom with diarrhea and almost immediately began to vomit to the point where i could not control it, and then my hands and feet turned red and itchy was gone the next morning. I feel lucky compared to some of these people, and i have many drug allergies so i do understand it can be quite aggravating, but any time you have any type of reaction to any meds you should IMMEDIATELY discontinue and then call the doctor. any doctor who tells you anything else should be FIRED!! My husband and i are both EMTs and let me tell you, if your doctor doesn't discontinue use of a medication that causes reaction of any kind--let alone a severe one needs to go back to school. Anxiety attacks, etc. that some of these people have had are NOT minor, they are not side effects, it is an allergic reaction, to a medication. If it were me, i would be firing that doctor immediately or getting a second opinion. Common Sense is so rare these days, if it doesn't sound right, it probably isn't. Do not be afraid to shop around for a new doctor, YOU are their bread and butter, You are still a customer and there are so many out there these days you can find one that IS what he or she should be, concerned about You and YOUR health,
not one who speaks over you or disregards your concerns or symptoms! If your doctor keeps you on a medication that you are allergic to--FIRE him or her and find a new one!

I was prescribed Avelox in March for a suspected minor sinus infection, after having already completed a 14-day course of Augmentin with no side effects. After 3 doses of Avelox I stopped because of these symptoms: fever to 100.5, tingling in feet, blood in urine, dizziness, faintness, vomiting, gastritis. A few days later I was diagnosed with atrial fibrillation (irregular heart rhythm), which I will now have to contend with for the rest of my life. Because I was formerly very healthy and had no heart problems, I am convinced the stress of the allergic reaction to Avelox caused the A fib. This drug should be avoided at all costs.

OMG. Started taking Avelox and a cough pill at the same time. Thought the shakes were from being tired from not sleeping since I've had a sinus infection and coughing all night. Wondered if it was just in my mind. Went to the doctor. Told me to stop taking the cough pill. Sent me to the hospital for EKG. Called back and wants me to go to a heart specialist a.s.a.p for changes noticed since last EKG. Scared me badly. I'm only 42. Looked this up on the internet. Told pharmacist about problems. He said he never had anyone have any of my symptoms. Said to stop taking Avelox and drink a lot of water to help flush it out. Won't get out of my body for over 24 hours. Don't think our emergency room would have any clue how to help me since it isn't an allergic reaction just a side effect. Evidently most people who had trouble with this horrible drug have survived to write about it which gives me hope that I will too.

I will never take this drug again - I was prescribed it for bronchitis along with prednisone. I have severe asthma and have been taking prednisone for short periods without problems since childhood. My first and only dose caused hives, itching, dry heaves, and severe chest pain and heart palpitations. Ended up going to the hospital by ambulance - Where I was ignored for 5 hours - apparently they thought I was seeking narcotics (overheard one of the nurses) for the chest pain. Ridiculous, I don't suppose my body covered with hives was faked too - I know that some people abuse medications but I am not one of them!!! I didn't even ask for pain meds. Anyway, I still feel pretty shaky today...but relieved that they gave me a different antibiotic - Hopefully the prednisone will help with the allergic reaction. Good luck to all of you and get well!

I took one Avelox on Friday March 21, 2008 to treat a sinus infection and within 5 minutes my face, back and arms turned beat red. As I looked in the mirror I could see that my lips were very swollen. Within 10 minutes my entire body was beat red and I was extremely itchy especially my head and back. I figured I was having a reaction to the medication so I took a Benadryl which did not seem to work until I took the second dose. I ended up feeling sick the entire day and really achy from head to toe. I had terrible pains in my stomach and every time I stood up I felt as if I were going to fall back down. I was very dizzy and felt just out of it. I was also sneezing nonstop. I went to the doctor and was told that this medication works well for a sinus infection but one of the side effects is an allergic reaction. I have not taken another one since Friday but today is Sunday and I am still a bit red, still itchy (especially my head), still dizzy and still feel out of it.

I have just posted about my experience with Avelox on 11 Mar 08 but forgot to mention that my blood pressure dropped to 80/40 in the ambulance on the way and I kept blacking out and have also experienced extreme urination about every 15 minutes but thought that was from the catheter the ER used that night while treating allergic reaction to same.
I had to return to family physican Wed for shot Depramedrol as the Avelox was still in my system and the hospital also told me to use Benadryl to couneract same. I am glad to find this site as I was doing some research to see what in the world happened but my throat totally closed up as stated in previious post so could not talk!!

I took Avelox for the 1st time 3 days ago for a sinus infection. After the 1st pill I began sneezing uncontrollably. I didn't sleep a wink that night. I took my 2nd and 3rd dose the next few days and literally had not slept for 3 days straight-total INSOMNIA. My hands and legs felt so tingly I had no idea what was happening. I felt faint. Then my mouth became so dry. I couldn't breathe-all I kept thinking was my throat was closing up. It was horrible. My teeth hurt, my lips were swollen and dry,my vision was blurry, vomiting, loose stool.... My eyes were sore and swollen and I had no idea I was having an allergic reaction to the Avelox. Today is the 1st day I haven't taken a dose and I'm still feeling funky. Tight chest and blurred vision bad.I am severely fatigued. I just wonder how long this medicine stays in your system.

I am a 43 year old female who, until I found this site, thought I was dying of bone cancer - I am not even kidding. I just finished the last of my 10 day prescription for Avelox (for bronchitis and sinusitis). And I feel like I have been beaten about the head and body. Honestly, every part of my body aches and I can barely walk. I have absolutely no energy; throbbing and shooting pains up and down my arms and legs. Not to mention sharp pains in my chest area periodically. I have very clouded and unclear thinking abilities; and my neck and head hurt so bad not even an 800 mg ibuprofen helps. Oh and let's not forget the chills which are right down to the bone - I cannot get warm and I have yucky night sweats to boot. I would most certainly be interested in a class action lawsuit. I really hate that I took 10 days worth and wonder when I will start feeling better. PLEASE DO NOT TAKE AVELOX - it is not worth the painful side effects! The prescription flyer I received with the medication did not mention any of the side effects I encountered.

I was given Avelox for a sinus infection and bronchitis 2 days ago.
I have COPD, CNS, STROKE, DEPRESSION, ANXIETY and other health conditions and wasn't feeling well at all.
My first pill made me feel out of it and then my lips started to tingle and felt numb.
I asked my brother to look at them and he said they looked ok to him.
I also have pill a phobia so I thought maybe it's just my imagination? But...
I got on the net and seen all the post's and though I was told these side affects were rare ...I seen they aren't that rare!!!!!
I tried calling my doctor to get a different medication but could not get a hold of him.
I was sick and not able to get a hold of my doctor ,so I took the pill the next day and my lips did the same thing but worse....this time they swelled up and the inside of my lips are raw.
I called the pharmacy and they said to stop taking them I was having an allergic reaction to them and I need to take Prednisone and Benadryl right away.
I called the doctor again and still no response!!!!
It took the pharmacy all day to reach him themselves to help me!!
Finally, they got a hold of him at 8:30PM.
Today I am now taking amoxicillin, Prednisone and Benadryl.
The swelling has gone done, but my lip's are still raw and I feel very shaky.
I will never take this medication AGAIN!
With all my health conditions I do not no why my doctor gave me this medication!!!
I find that doctor's love to hand out all these new medications like candy.......when they don't know anything more about them than what pharmaceutical companies tell them.
They do no research on them themselves!!!

I was given Avelox after sinus surgery in August. I called the doctor told them I felt awful sick and nauseated. He switched me to another antibiotic. Here I am in December still not better been on at least two other antibiotics since the bought in August. I started Augmentin 3 weeks ago and had horrible itching after about a week being on it. Went back to my Doctor who out put me back on Avelox. Took the first dose at about 9 am within 30 minutes my throat was itchy and I was breaking out in hives and went into a panic attack. Took Benadryl as well as was prescribed Xanax for anxiety attacks still going on. I don't know if it is the fear of my throat closing but my pharmacy now has warnings for me for Penicillins as well as Avelox related drugs. Never had drug reactions before ever now . Went back to ENT put me on Medro pak which after seeing an allergist recommended. He also wanted me on Biaxin but I am not taking it at this point. There are allergy tests for drugs I would recommend and anyone experiencing any side effects to be checked after reactions to Avelox after reading this board I realize I was having an allergic reaction the first time in August and never should have been on it again.

DO NOT TAKE THIS MED UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES!
I have been on this for 5 days and I feel horrible. My doctor prescribed fifteen (YES 15) days of this crap to me for sinusitis. The first couple of days I felt...ODD. Then I started having some tingling sensations and felt groggy. Thinking my doctor knew what he was doing, I plowed on to day 5. Today was the worst. Disorientation, lethargy, headache, tingling under my skin. I will NOT continue this and I am heading into the doctor tomorrow. After reading this and other sites....I have no idea why this would be prescribed for such a relatively minor problem. There are OTHER less threatening antibiotics in the arsenal to try first. I had no idea what I was getting into, but only if I could go back and say NO...... I just hope I haven't done permanent damage.

I was percribed Avelox on Sept. 25, 2006 for a sinus infection. I'm used to these because I get them frequently due to my high allergies. I know that people have different reactions and I know that my sever reaction was suppose to be rare as the side effects section says, however, what I experienced I pray to God I never experence again and consider myself lucky to be alive.
I took the first pill (10 day perscription) at 3:35 on my way to pick up my son from school. Within 5 minutes of taking it my crotch felt like it was on fire, and itched bad! My first thought was "I didn't use a publlic restroom, so I can't have crabs" Things only got worse for me. I was at my son's school five minutes later, and by then my ear lobes were burning, and my vision was a little blurred, my hands were very shaky, and they were so swollen that my finger tips were white and I could barely bend them. I walked into the school to get my son and told him something is not right and mommy needs to go to the hospital, so I was going to get back in the car and try to drive myself, but as I pasted to office again, I peeked in to see if the school nurse was still there, her light was off so I told my son she is already gone. How she heard me I don't know, but she said no I'm still here. Two minutes later I started vomiting, and shaking even more. When she took my blood pressure it had already dropped below 80 or 90 over 40 or 50, and my heart rate was above 125. This was all within 15 minutes of the first dose. She gave me medication for an allergic reaction. The I felt like my stomach was being eaten from the inside out, and I was itching hororably. So bad infact that I made myself bleed a couple of times. The nurse watched over me and kept taking my blood pressure and pulse for close to an hour and a half. She let me go home when it was back above 100's over 60's. She was somewhat discusted with the doctor's office reaction that the medication should not have effected me that quickly, but it did. Like I said my reaction is suppose to be rare. It is just another thing to add to my allergy list. I pray others don't react the same.

One hour after taking the first dose, I woke up in panick, with a horrible pressure on my neck and back of my head. I felt my heart was rushing, then stopping , I couldn't breath and I almost blacked out. We rushed to the ER and was given some shots for an allergic reaction, but I don't think it was an allergy, just some plain and nasty side effects from a really awful antibiotic.
I don't recommend it!!!!

My experience with Avelox was horrible. I was prescribed Avelox for an ear infection, I had tried two others and it still didn't clear up, so my doctor gave me this prescription. I only took one dose and that was it for me, no more! I was suppose to take it for 7 days, but couldn't after the first. Half hour after taking it I felt strange, I wasn't myself. Half hour after that I felt really nausea, then half hour after that I went on my computer to do some stuff and couldn't type, couldn't press the buttons on my mouse, I felt like I was rubber, my mouth went dry..no matter how much I drank it was still dry. Talking was hard, felt like I was slurring all the time and concentrating was impossible! I felt like I wasn't myself, my neck swelled up..I ended up going to the ER, was told by the doctors there that I had gotten an allergic reaction to the medication. NEVER AGAIN AM I TAKING A DRUG LIKE THIS!!! I just finished flushing it out of my system and feel much better off it now.
