Aviane side effects

I started dating my now husband over a year 1/2 ago & started taking Alesse for 6 months. I had no bad side effects & everything was great those 6 months but I didn't renew the prescription because remembering the pill everyday is a hassle... Dumb mistake! I got a 3 month trial of that new NuvaRing thinking it would be great not to worry about the pill. Wrong again, I had the worst breakouts. mood swings, numbness in my face/arms & total lack of sex drive brought on by constant pain during intercourse with painful tenderness lasting days after.... So I asked to be prescribed Alesse again but the pharmacy ended up giving me this Aviane since my coverage is for generic. I don't know how to explain it really, don't know if it's just the switch but I my period lasted about one day. First it was dark (nearly black) hardly blood at all but congealed! Than later that night I had some cramping & a flow of blood. That was it. The next morning I woke up to find my labia majora was painfully red and swollen. (Now I have never been sexually active before my husband and a few months after we started having intercourse I asked him to get checked with me & both came back clear so as far as I know there is nothing unknown that can be causing this!) I am going to call my doctors office today & hopefully speak with a nurse... In the meantime I refilled my prescription for Alesse & will dish out the extra money..

I have had lots of the side effects that most women described. The most severe for me was the dramatic hair loss that I suffered while taking, first Aviane in the beginning then being switched to Lutera really did'nt make much of a difference, however I have lost weight which was a plus, but the hair loss and restlessness made it a minus not to mention the depression and low sex drive. So I have decided to finish my last pack, then just completely go off of birth control pills and hope my cycle lightens up, otherwise I will try some Homeopathic remedy and see how that goes. Question: I just got a new pack and my school Dr. said Lessina is the new name for Aviane?!? I've been researching it all day and can't find any answers. Does anyone know why they would change the name? I just want to know if it's something serious or just a name change :) I'm getting off Avaine anyways especially after reading all the comments on depression and anxiety side effects so many people have had. I was going to see a therapist because I have ridiculous anxiety for NO REASON and snap at everything but thanks girls...now I know I'm not crazy, it's just the pill! Life is good :)

I have been on this Pill for a year now, At first it was terrible because I had breakthrough bleeding for 8month, I never took my sugar pills. Well recently I have had serious stomach pain, numbness, headaches, bad mood swings, I always said I'd rather deal w/ the side effects of a pill than have another child at this point in my life.. Well I am at my breaking point, this pill is RUINING my life...

I only just started taking it (Avaine) yesterday, and everything is fine so far; nothing out of the ordinary is going on. I'm 19 years old, healthy, have mild acne around my period and usually terrible cramps and mood swings, I don't know if this will benefit me in those areas or not yet. We'll see though, from what I've been reading this might not turn out so well but I think I will keep an update going on here when any side effects or benefits arise.

I have been on Aviane for a little less than a year. It was prescribed to me by a clinician, she said it was cheaper than the one I had been on. SInce I started this pill Ive gained thirty pounds, my acne is worse than it was when I was 14 (i am 21), I have had numerous yeast infections as well as a yeast infection and a bacterial infection at the same time. Both of the Doctors ive seen about that said it was almost impossible. I never had any issues with yeast infections until i went on this pill and I continue to get them about every two months. Once this script is out I and def off this pill! I have been on four different kinds of birth control, some with unpleasant side effects but never like this. I can relate to everyone on this page at some point or another.

ive been taking aviane for about 4 months or so. and ive finally realized these things are evil. I have bloating, cramping, which ive NEVER had, feeling heavy, weird periods sometimes twice a month. depression, anxiety, backaches, headaches, difficult to fall asleep and stay asleep, im very irritable, and emotional, i feel nauseous and tired, ive got pain behind my eyes. its horrible, im going to my doctor, a different one, Monday to see what they can do for me. they should take this off the market, it might be serving its purpose but at what cost? the multi-side effects just aren't worth it to me. and if you found this website the way i did, then you know where im coming from. it sucks

i have been on aviane now for two months almost, i am experiencing acne breakouts again..... i have always had acne and been taking medication to help control acne.. i also was on alesse acne not to bad had been on it for almost 2 yrs... then pharmacy switched me to aviane and my skin is always blemished with pimples never clear, i don't like this bc pill at all.... anyone experiencing frequent breakouts since making the switch to aviane? also not to mention that my legs feel heavy most days the calf prt anyone ?

This is my first time ever using birth control and my doctor gave me Aviane. To me its done nothing 'good' or done anything special besides keeping me from getting pregnant. Since i've been on the pill i've only had many emotional spills (ex. i colored a picture and bawled my eyes out because it was ugly), many anger problems, irritation, yeast infections, MAJOR stomach problems (bloating, cramping, heavy feeling), weird periods, depression, anxiety, loss of my sex drive, pain behind the eyes, and pretty much everything else that you can possibly get. Dont take this drug, its horrible.

I was switched from Alesse to Aviane in February due to my drug plan's preference for generic drugs. I have experienced serious bowel problems specifically inflammation and extreme pain. It is interesting to note the issues that others have had with sex drive as I have suspected for some time that Alesse (and I continue with Aviane) that it was affecting mine. I have also noticed a that I am much quicker to irritation and anger in recent months.

I used Aviane for a month and a half now and I see nothing wrong with it. It did not make me sick, I THINK I did notice a swing on my mood while I was on my period not a serious one but I was more emotional when Im usually not - hopefully it was just a bad week but other than that this pill did not affect my emotions towards more positive or negative. I did take Alesse for the two first weeks and they made me sick the first week where I felt like puking up and just sleeping all day - I was worried to go on the pill again, but Im glad I picked this one its a close form of "Alesse" but this one did not make me sick or feel any weird up and downs towards my emotions. Also my period came right on the 2nd non-active pill and stopped 1-2 before I had to start the active ones again. It doesn't mess up the cycle which I was also happy about! Anyway try it out I think it work great for me!

I was on yaz but my insurance plan decide to not cover it....i loved that pill never had mood swing always my self.... unfortunately i can not afford it anymore... so my doctor prescribe me aviane... I am on it for only 5 days and i hate it....... i got mood swing, i have difficulty to fall asleep and to stay asleep, i wake up in the middle of the night, and cannot fall back to sleep. i cannot live my life like that....life is too short to be like that .i am done with aviane ......and since i started i have headache and i am allergic to ibuprofen the only medicine i can take is Tylenol and they say to not take it with aviane....... avoid it ....for your sake...

I have been taking Aviane for about 2 years now and i can agree with almost everyone. In the beginning it is really rough because your body has to get used to it. After about 3-4 months though it does get better. However there are still some things that don't go away, such as the loss of sex drive. In the past i have tried everything from numerous pills to the shot to the patch and my body strongly disagrees with all of them. I finally found something that cured almost everything, and now my pharmacist tells me its been discontinued.
He gave me substitute called Lutera and said it was the same thing just made by a different company. If its all the same thing, why do they discontinue one and not the other? I asked him why it was discontinued and he couldn't or maybe wouldn't tell me. Does anyone know why? I am going to try the Lutera but i know from experience that just because its the same thing doesn't mean it will work the same.

I have taken Aviane for about 10 months. My mood seemed relatively normal for a while, but slowly worsened, and for the past five or six months I've been extremely emotional and depressed. I've lost a lot of the zest for life that I once had. I have occasional bouts of happiness where I feel like my old self (usually during the placebo pill week), but the second something goes wrong, I get a very negative attitude that it is impossible to snap me out of. I'm often sarcastic and irate, and the littlest thing will set me off. After reading so many reviews by people who've experienced the same thing, I'm hoping that my BC switch will help me feel like myself again. If not, I'm going off birth control altogether. Life's too short to be angry all the time, and the pill isn't worth it.

I just started my 3rd pack of Aviane. One of the reasons I started taking birth control was to lighten up my period due to anemia. Well, so far its only made my periods worse. The first pack i had breakthrough bleeding for almost 2 weeks. It was heavy, the cramps were worse, felt sick, and worse depression/anxiety. I went to the doctor and he said this was "normal" and that I should continue the pill. During the second pack I bled for over a week and it was heavier, bad cramps and a headache for a week. Not to mention my "period" never came during the placebo pills but I know it can take time to regulate. I just started my 3rd pack of pill and I'm not feeling well. Just nauseous, sick and depressed again. Just last week when I was on the placebo pill I felt just fine and now i've started Aviane again and i feel horrible. All I know is that if bleed irregular/heavy this month again, i'm either going to go off this horrible stuff or go to the doctor to find a new birth control that doesn't make me feel sick and depressed all the time!

I had major mood swings and sex drive lose, i had even worse cramping which i didn't think was possible before the pill.i get major headaches,my flow isn't any different.i had weight loss which isn't good since i'm 5'2 and 100 pounds.i was on for 3 months and refuse to take it ever again in my life.

I'm 24 years old and I've been on Aviane for about 2 years. My sex drive is GONE. I live with my boyfriend and we have a great relationship. He is my best friend. We have sex MAYBE once or twice a month and I still don't even want to do it then, but I feel bad for him so I do. I also snap at everything, and I always feel like I'm going to explode. I snap at him and my cat and my family at least once a day. I can hardly do my laundry or drive my car without feeling like I want to punch a wall. I've always been such a laid back person so I definitely think it's the birth control. I didn't gain any weight on this pill. I actually lost weight so I'm terrified to switch to anything else, but I think I'm going to have to because it's ruining my life.

Iv been on it for not even 2 weeks now...i got my period again...a week after i just had it...iv had severe abdomen pains after sex, my sex drive has gone to like zero. my boyfriend feels like he almost has to force me to have sex...im getting freaking fat! i have uncontrollable acne and my skin is peeling, my back aches constantly? am i crazy or is this medication just plain crap?

I have been on everything from OrthoCyclen to YAZ and this extra low-dose pill has been the only thing that I can remotely tolerate. I am, however, having some trouble with my cycle. It seems as though every other month, I start this really light period ONE WEEK early. I'm only coming up on my 4th pack, but I can't figure out why it's doing this. This is the only pill I've ever had this happen with. I'd much rather have some light spotting for 2 weeks than to be crazy and psychotic! If anyone else has experienced this, please reply. Was there a pattern????

I've been on the pill for about 2 or 3 weeks and the only effect i got was a yeast infection and it's the worst pain ever....i'll finish this cycle but imma switch to something else...

It all makes sense now. I have been taking Aviane for over 2 months now. I have weird bouts of severe depression even though my life is good now. Got a great job, fantastic bf, great friends, etc. But I went totally crazy, esp. on my bf for no reason.
In addition, I have migraines. And my back has broken out like crazy (I have no have back acne, ever). I was so stupid to buy a whole years worth. This is the worst bc pill I have ever taken (though sprin-tec comes in a close second). I have anxiety attacks . Also, I would wake up in middle of night and not be able to fall asleep (never had that problem before). I think I may be losing more hair then usual too.
I use to be so easy going. WHAT HAPPENED TO ME? AVIANE. That's what. Avoid at all cost. I wish I had.

I took aviane a year or so ago for about 2 months and stopped. I was just recently put back on it due to pain in my lower abdomen ( suspected cyst). Although there were not too many horrible side effects from the last time i took aviane, this time I HATE IT! I eat everything in sight, i want to cry at every given moment, i want to punch everyone in the face, i am mean to my BF and don't want to have sex. I have never experienced such wackiness.

I have gained about 5-10 pounds in the past 3 weeks (im almost to the sugar pills) and i have gotten horribly depressed/mean. I don't like this. Luckily though im not nauseous or have jaundice or pain behind my eyes or anything, but i do sleep like ALL day. I will go to bed around 4 am, wake up at 2pm take a nap around 5pm until about 7 or 8pm and then be up til 4 am... eating...uncontrollably..while yelling at anyone insight. BEWARE OF SYNTHETIC HORMONES!

I just started using Aviane about 5 months ago. I do not recommend it. When I first started using is I would have my period for the entire 28 days (not fun). This continued for the first 2 months now I don't get my period at all. Its scary because I think I might be pregnant but I'm really not. I always get headaches caused by pain behind my eyes and I have been really moody lately. I've also noticed that I have become a bit heavier. Even though I haven't presisted with this pill that long I'm already planning to switch off of it.

I have been on Aviane 28 Day BC for a month. I did not notice any changes right away, however, my boyfriend keeps complaining about my attitude and I was beginning to believe that I was turning into a monster.
However, after reading many of your comments, I believe that my mood swings can be correlated to this BC.

Also, I always had UNCONTROLLABLE acne, but now my skin is nearly FLAWLESS so that is GREAT news for me! My breasts have also gotten larger, which is a plus in my case.

Additionally, I'm on Week 4 (the sugar pills) and my period is almost nonexistent even though I know it is here. I'm bleeding very lightly (which means I could use a panty shield). Before I started taking this BC I had TERRIBLE periods and EXCRUTIATING cramps. I used at least 40 pads or more every month! I have 4 packs of pads in anticipation of my period, but it seems like I won't be using them for right now. However, I am a little concern that my period is barely here, but I will be a good patient and continue to use the pill for the next two months as prescribed.

Finally, I have also noticed that I now feel very agitated and extremely anxious which is not a pleasant feeling at all!

Overall, the pill seems to be working for what it was prescribed for (i.e. assist with menstrual cramps and reduce the flow). I wish everyone the best with this medication or in finding one that is efficient for you.

I"m one week away from the 28th pill. I've had nothing but problems with this pill. Yes it is suppose to stop you from becoming pregnant but It stops me from even wanting to have sex. My boyfriend told me to tell you "I"m pissed off". I don't have a sex drive anymore, I can't have an orgasm!!!! it's horrible!!! I get headaches every other day, and pain behind my eyes as well. I've been on my period all month. Do not take this pill if you have one that is working for you. I will continue to use it until the third month, I"ve been told thats when your body will be use to it. I will give you an update and let you know how it goes.

ive been on aviane for 3 weeks and im about to enter the placebo pills i have had acne but i cant tell if that is just my normal life stress or im just getting them, i think im also going to wait a few more months and if nothing clears up im going to go on Yaz since i have heard a lot about that hopefully it works and all helps with everyone.

I've been taking Aviane for about 3 months now and its horrible, I had been taking alesse for 5 or 6 years until my drug plan decided to switch to a cheaper pill. With Alesse no side effects at all, but with this Aviane there are lots. I am always tired, headaches, pain behind my eyes and chest pain, which is not normal!!!! A few days ago I stopped taking the pill and I am starting to feel much better. Although this drug may be cheaper its not worth taking, I'd rather take nothing than this pill.

I have been on aviane for 3.5 years and have recently decided to turn to natural forms of birth control. I have experienced anxiety and anger, which is not my normal character response. I am mainly doing this to keep my body safe and my husband safe. I hope that my decision affects someone in a positive way.

I am 21 yrs old and I have been on Aviane for 1yr. now. This would be my third different BC. I was on the patch before taken Aviane I was having these side effects on the patch :dizziness, blurred vision and many more just to name a few. Since being on Aviane I have had a lot to side effect: depression moody, anger, (very bad) hair loss, slurred speech, loss train of thought, weight gain (about 15 lbs), decreased sex drive, headaches, severe cramping and other side effects. I wouldn't recommend this BC to anyone.

I'm sorry to read all the bad effects that some had have with Aviane. I was on my last pill for about 7 years and thought I was losing my mind. Major depression, even suicidal thoughts. I got switched to Aviane because my prescription company switched to this brand. So far, I have never felt mentally better. Happy happy happy. I did gain a few pounds, but I'd rather be happy and a little plump than thinner and depressed, right?

My pharmacist also switched to Aviane and told me that is was the same thing. I think that it has affected my bowels as now I have cramps there too. I feel crappy all the time. I also suffer from nausea in the morning and have thought that I was pregnant. I was on Alesse before that with no problems. I stopped taking the Aviane and asked specifically for the Alesse. Now my body is in some kind of limbo and I feel really low. I thought it was just me but I am "happy" to hear that it is not in my head. I think I will come off all BC for a month or two and try again,

I went on aviane back in December and i mainly just got mood swings and depression, but i wanted to go on it to clear up the pimples i was getting. I went off it a month or two later because of rapid weight gain that i noticed and now in may ive been on it for about a week and im already experiencing horrible mood swings, horrible cysts of pimples that happen to be very painful, and im just never happy. I also experience really bad stomach pains and I am not sure if this is all because of the pill? I don't know if i should keep through with the pack hoping that it will get better? I have prom in a few weeks and i don't want my face to look horrible. I was thinking about going on YAZ because of the commercials saying that it clears acne, controls mood swings, etc....what do you think?

started out with taking alesse. first two month was really miserable constantly felt like crap. loss of appetite, major mood swings (which is very unlike me), loss of sex drive. 9 months later im now on aviane. haven't had any problems with it what so ever. def stick with one BC for at least 4 or 5 months - its gets much better from then on. ^_^

Yeah, I started taking birth control for the first time in my life about a month and a half ago. My periods usually last less than a week with only a day of mild uncomfortablness, but since I've been on Aviane, I've been bleeding buckets everyday and having terrible cramps. Which means no sex with my awesome boyfriend. I thought the point of birth control was to have as much sex as I wanted and to have less periods. I stopped taking it two days ago and am waiting for my period to return to normal.

Did I mention the terrible mood swings?

I was on alesse for 3 months, and loved it.
before I got one migraine every time around my period, but when i went on alesse, the migraines stopped.
After I finished my 3 packs, the pharmacist said hey do you want to try avaine, its the EXACT SAME, just cheaper
i said "Exactly?" and he said yes

so hey. why not save some money

Eventually i got a migraine, and then another one, and then another one,,.. and then another one ,... and again.. another one

long painful story short- if one pill is working for you- don't switch even if its a better price

I've been on Aviane for 5 months now, and i haven't had much of a difference from my periods, but i've been getting really sick at night time, as soon as i take my pill i'm usually in bed for the rest of the night, i think Aviane is one of the worst pills out there and i will be changing within the next week

I am almost done my first aviane pack (28). it is my first time taking birth control so i am not sure what is normal. i have been spotting since i ended my period...soo i have been constantly bleeding for almost a month now!
i have increased sex drive.. and this mild bleeding is really bugging me.. does anyone know when it will stop.. or if it will?

I started Aviane about 2 weeks ago because they stopped Alesse. I had my period and started the Aviane 28 that Sunday, and haven't had sex at all since my period and I feel pregnant. My stomach is hard, and I can't suck it in; for the first week I had almost morning sickness, I was very nauseas, and threw up the first day I took them. I've also been tired and getting headaches.
I'm actually scared that I am pregnant, but I don't see how it could be possible, seeing as I've had my period. Has this happened to anyone? Please let me know - I'm going to take a pregnancy test soon because I'm so worried. Hopefully it's just the pills!

I was on aviane for 2 months and then switched to the generic brand lutera. While on both I experienced severe anger problems, and I am definitely a very chill/laid back person. I became very snappy and the smallest thing would annoy the hell out of me, I felt like I had anger management issues, but I definitely know that it's from this pill because I never had any issues like this before. Also, my sex drive/libido is almost totally gone. I get dry during sex really easily, and this has also never been a problem before.

I have been on Aviane off and on for three months, I took a one month break because I had horrible mood swings. My period hit in the middle of the month, and now that I'm on the week of rest, i have another lite period. I am debating whether I should stay on the pill. Not because I can't handle the little side effects, I'm worried about long term side effects? I want to know what I'm putting in my body, and how will it affect me later in life.

I have been on Aviane for 5 months now and love it. The first 2 months I had breast tenderness and intermittent bleeding. Once the 3rd month passed, I felt completely normal. It did reduce my sex drive though. I had no weight gain and it helped alleviate my mild depression.

I have been on aviane for 4 months and i hate it! I have all the side effects: headaches, nightmares, acne, fatigue, mood swings, depression, anger, long periods, weight gain, rage, etc.... I could list alot more! I am so glad I went on this page because now I know its the pill and I'm not going crazy. I have had such a horrible experience with this pill that I am stopping it today mid-cycle just to feel "normal" again. I cry for any reason, I'm mean to those I love and I feel like I should be going to therapy. I've never had acne before and now I get a pimple and its there for weeks! I have gained weight even though I work out 5 days a week and I am so lathargic that its a battle to stay up past 9pm. I think this pill should be taken off the market. I was on yaz before and stopped because I experience break through bleeding, but I want to get back on it. A liitle spotting every now and then is much better than feeling insane!

I've been on Aviane as my first BC for 3 months and haven't noticed any significant side effects. There's been no weight gain and I've been able to actually start and maintain a fitness program required for a summer job/career (we'll see where it leads!). My period was a bit off the first couple of times with spotting but I read in the pamphlet it should be expected and for about a month, I've been completely 'normal'. The only thing MAY have been the lower sex drive but it was good for mine to shift down a gear so that can't be classified as a problem, and that can probably be attributed to other events in my life. I suggest everyone here take a step back and see if weight gain, acne, sex drives, etc. may be a consequence of other life subjects that shouldn't be blamed on BC. We all go through these events for different reasons and it would be a shame to denounce a valid and proven pharmaceutical product on account of needing a scapecoat.

I was taking Aviane for 9 months - perhaps 9 months too long. I have experienced noticeable weight gain and TREMENDOUS HAIR LOSS. I USED TO have thick, curly hair. I have lost at least 25% of my hair since taking this pill. It is absolutely noticeable - even my hair dresser is shocked. I have checked the other misc prescriptions that I am on - allergies, acid reflux - and this bc pill seems to be the culprit. If you have not started this pill, think twice before doing so. I switched to another 'regular' pill a few weeks ago. I hope my hair grows back!

hello, im 18 years old i just started avaine maybe a month ago, and im starting to get side effects and its the 2nd month. ive been on birthcontrol. im starting to bleed alot, and im not suposed to be on my period until a month from now, its confusing and its not very nice at all, i think this pill is making me more sexualy active and having alot of mood swings, and im pretty sure its making me feel sick in the mornings and before bed. its my first time taking this pill and its very unconfortable.

I have been on Aviane for almost 3 months now. I have already experienced depression and severe anger problems. I get mad over the littlest things now and I feel like breaking things... I feel enraged often and feel like hitting the people who make me angry. Also, I have never had any problems with my periods other than cramps. Before Aviane, my periods were only about 3-5 days long. After taking Aviane, I have experienced 2 periods of unreasonable lengths. The first one was a week and a half, the other a FULL TWO WEEK LONG PERIOD! This is insane! I am just starting my third week of my third month and am experiencing spotting which, like before with the other 2 months of Aviane, will turn into another period 1 1/2-2 weeks long! My cramps in addition became worse than before and I developed bad acne. I was previously on Trinessa and the only problem I had with that pill was acute depression causing me to not sleep as well. I told my doctor and he switched me over to Aviane. And in addition to everything, I have experienced significant weight gain and a URINARY TRACT INFECTION! I am a very clean person; I have never had a urinary tract infection before, and it does not run in my family. I believe Aviane is the reason why I have developed a UTI. I seriously advise everyone not to take this Birth Control. I have been on 3 different birth controls and I NEVER had problems with any of the others not nearly as severe as I have with Aviane. Under my personal experience with it, Aviane is the WORST BIRTH CONTROL EVER! I am getting off of it ASAP!

I started Aviane May 07 and just recently stopped this month of Mar 08. During this period, I have went from a size 5 to 9 and from 130 lbs to 151which now makes me overweight for my height 5'3. I gotten stretch marks on my breast and I constantly get yeast infections. I constantly feel depressed or like hitting someone and the weight gain didn't make that much easier. People have commented on the weight gain and even mom said I looked "puffy" which sent me to tears. I've never felt so insecure or moody and couldn't quite place my finger on what it was. Now that I have been off for about 3 weeks, I feel like another woman. The only good thing is that my skin cleared up and of course no babies.

I was taking Alesse for like 4-5 months and was fine now my pharmacist gave me Aviane and said it was the same thing i only did one month and i developed serious side effects . I'm only 18 i have No sex drive at all . I'm always sad cry for absolutely nothing and loss weight, no appetite I've stopped it its almost been a week and i sleep better feel more like my self but i still have no appetite and no sex drive how long does it take to come back ??
