I have been on Aviane for 3 months. I changed from Yasmin because of the cost. For the past 3 months I have gotten a yeast infection every month and one UTI. Just this month I got a yeast infection and then another 2 weeks later. Before being on this medication I never got yeast infections. I am going back to Yasmin no matter the cost.

I've been on Aviane for a month and just got my period.
So far here are the good things: I haven't gained weight. My boobs haven't swollen up like crazy (they usually do right before my period), and my period isnt killing me! Yay! I used to have HORRIBLE week long periods. It was so bad I would throw up and stay in bed squirming in pain for hours and miss work and class because of it on my second day of my period. But after this first month of being on Aviane my period will be max five days long which makes me really happy and I'm only sleepy but there ARE NO CRAMPS. Also I'm always lubricated during sex and it doesn't hurt anymore. It used to.
It also helped my bladder. I have interstitial cystitis and now my bladder isn't as sensitive anymore.
Negatives: I AM VERY MOODY. I cried a lot this month and was really paranoid and jealous about whatever my boyfriend was doing. I am never like this.
I have a lack of appetite. I have lost weight (not that I'm complaining).
I'm always tired.
My clitoris isn't as sensitive and I have a hard time orgasming. Before I used to have multiple orgasms but want less sex. Now I am always aroused but can't orgasm! It's weird.
But it has been the best birth control I've been on. And I've tried EVERYTHING. So we'll see...

I've been on it for 4 months, and I have noticed a marked difference in the quality and quantity of my orgasms, as well as ability and speed of arousal. The orgasms are not as intense, and it's more difficult to achieve multiples. Also, it takes longer to reach climax. My boyfriend wonders why I don't go "nuts" with him, and he thinks it's him, so it effects his arousal level too. I will be stopping Aviane after this period.

I took aviane that is supposedly the generic version of Aleese.. which its NOT. Aleese was taken off the market and replaced with pill and they called it generic.
Well Aleese has don't wonders for some but when Aviane was introduced it was slightly different. Well, anyways..
I took it for a few days and don't say its not long enough. EVERYONE'S body reacts differently to ALL MEDICATIONS!
After my few days I was biting my fiance's head off and handing it back to him. Next day I was happy as a cucumber and days following I started to get a weird feeling. I felt itchy ALL OVER! And I felt short of breath a little bit and I HAD MASSIVE INCREASED ANXIETY!
I went to the doctor and they said I was having an allergic reaction to something. They couldn't figure out if it was the hormone in the pill or if it was the dye covering it.
NOW I have to go on the nuvaring to see if that does the something.

I loved alesse when i was on it then the pharmacist changed it to aviane and i told my mom they gave me the wrong one so she called and they told her it was the same thing. well since i ve been on it i ve been so sick. nausea, headaches, and tired all the time- no matter how much i sleep or how much medication i take to try and make myself feel better i don't. its horrible and i have an appointment Monday to switch to yaz but i really don't want yaz, i m hoping i can just get the normal alesse that i was on before cause i had no problems what so ever with it.

I have been taking Aviane for almost two years now and I have been doing alright. I am now taking it in a constant regiment so I don't have a period. It hasn't changed much about me besides I have mood swings every now and then. I feel depressed or not ambitious at times. I am not sure if it's from the pill or just me being lazy. My acne that I had before taking Aviane has gone away besides a pimple here and there. Other than the mood swings this pill hasn't had much of an effect on me personally.

I have been much better since taking Aviane.
However the depression and anxiety some if you described, I had for TEN long years whilst taking MICROGYNON. I felt I couldn't control my emotions it was very frightening. I didn't realize that my pill could be causing this though until I stopped taking it.
So I guess that all pills affect different women in different ways. The only way is to keep trying different ones until you feel ok. Don't give up. My firned did and ended up having a seires of abortions just because she didn't like how the pill made her feel. I think the abortions made her feel MUCH worse.
Just keep trying you'll find the right one..
Good luck!

I have been fine on Aviane except for the fact that my periods have almost stopped apart from some spotting mid-month and a very very light flow.
The side effects described bu most of you- the anger depression etc I suffered from whilst on Microgynon and has actually gone since I started taking Aviane. I feel much better. I was so depressed at least once a month and very angry and unable to control my emotions at all. Sometimes just so lost and scared of how I felt because I couldn't think straight. I never realized that it could be my pill until I stopped taking it after TEN long years!!!
So I guess all pills affect different women in different ways. I would say just keep trying different ones until you find what's right for you...

I am seventeen years old and i have been on Aviane for almost three months. I have never been on any pill, this is my first time on the pill. I read all the side effects and i have had different side effects from the ones i have read. My sex drive has gone up and i have irregular periods. This month i have had my period again for the third time. this has never happened to me before. So i searched online and found this website which is a great relief. I have also been very tired, taking naps and having having heart burns without even eating. I have not been eating well either, i eat 1-2 meals a day or go on without eating at all. I've been having headaches two to three times a week. Some days i experience cramping without being on or near the time of my period.

I've been taking Alesse since I was 15 (I'm 24 now), and my pharmacy switched me to Aviane as the generic last year. Since I was switched, I put on at least 30 pounds, look and feel bloated no matter what I do, and my face has suddenly sprouted bad T-zone acne. I had NO PROBLEMS when I was on Alesse, but thanks to the generic, I look like a fat, bloated, walking pimple! I went off of it for a month thinking I wasn't going to be sexually active -- lost a good ten pounds and looked/felt GREAT -- and now that I have a new partner went back on it... in just a week, I've gained seven pounds, my face looks really bloated, the acne is back, and I'm EXHAUSTED from doing nothing. My appetite is like a grizzly bear too. This is the WORST pill on the market, girls. Try something else. I'm going to Planned Parenthood and asking for a prescription for Yaz... don't have insurance at the moment, so it might be expensive (compared to the $25/generic Aviane), but at this point I couldn't care less if I start looking and feeling better! Girls, I advise you to STAY AWAY FROM THIS PILL.

I started taking Aviane on Sunday, and i have been on it for 4 day now. just in the 4 days i have become a NUT CASE. i warn every girl not take this birth control. I was fun, loving. optimistic person and after I took it, I have been very irritable, borderline depressed, and very sensitive. There is no good outcome to this birth control. Hopefully I'm not pregnant, stupid birth control!

i'm 17 and i've been on aviane for two months and it has not been good. the person i used to be has been totally wiped out because of this pill. I used to be optimistic, loving and caring, and now i'm negative, extremely irritable, always sad, aways angry, always nasty and mean to the ones i love, beyond my control. i even cried reading these reviews...that shouldn't be the case for anyone. i've also gained five pounds in the two months that i've been on it, and i'm also always bloated. i was told that it would take up to 3 months for things to feel normal again, but reading these reviews gives me no hope for this. it never occured to me until now that by changing my pill, i could become myself again. so there is hope! :) ..i have an appointment with my obgyn coming up and i'm definitely going to check into something else. i'd really like to stay on birth control due to the fact that my periods are CRAZY unpredictable, but this pill is definitely not for me.

I just started Aviane 28 two days ago and it's my first time taking bc. This morning I woke up with an itchy rash all over my neck, cheeks, and upper back. My doctor warned me that I would probably have spotting for the first 3 months and to just stick it out, but I am worried I am having an allergic reaction. Has this happened to anyone else? I am going to call my doctor tomorrow and hopefully she will say that my rash should go away in a day or so. I am willing to stick it out, but only if this rash goes away soon! I was also really emotional today, but I think it was more likely stress from having the rash than from the bc.
I really want this to work out!

I was on Alesse for years and did fine with it, then took a pill break. When I decided to go back on the pill for my PCOS, I wanted Alesse but was told they don't make it anymore so I am forced to take Aviane. Since I started taking Aviane 4 months ago, I have gained 5-10 pounds, feel bloated and heavy, have no sex drive, and just feel kind of "blank" a lot of the time emotionally. I wish I could get Alesse back!

this is the first week on the avaine, and the first day i had HORRIBLE cramps( which was the reason my doctor is trying me on b/c so i wont have to deal with the strong cramps and pain i USUALLY get with my periods), and it felt like my insides where moving around the second day i cried all day when i had nothing to be sad about, i found myself having MAJOR depression for three days in a row, my nipples are very sensitive now and i find myself really dry inside, and it burns sometimes when i go to the washroom, im not sexually active so i know i don't have any infections, but im kind of worried about the side effects ive had so far on avaine...should i switch to a different pill?

I was on Alesse for 3 years with no troubles except the occasional acne breakout. I got switched to Aviane a year ago and I hate it. I just went back to Alesse for several reasons.
1: My blood pressure rose from 110/70 to 160/80 in the year I was on Aviane. I'm only 24 and although I am overweight, my blood pressure has always been on the low side of normal. In the week I went off Aviane, my blood pressure dropped to 145/70. It's still high but it had gone down in just a week. My doctor's handling of this prompted me to switch doctors, too- instead of recommending I lose a bit of weight, he just prescribed a blood pressure medication which can't be taken with birth control pills.
2: Mood swings. Big time. I used to work in fast-food and having 20-30 customers lined up wouldn't bother me on the Alesse, but on Aviane I was really short with my coworkers and if we got a busy rush, I'd get cranky in about 3 orders. Not to mention, I'm a veterinary nurse and sometimes you just can't save an animal no matter how hard you try. Normally I have a very thick skin and I could leave work issues at work. I noticed, and so did my boss, that I would be very depressed and near the point of tears if we had to give bad news, whereas before I would be professional but sympathetic, as opposed to nearly breaking down in front of clients now.
3: Decreased sex drive. I'm glad I'm not the only person with this problem but it caused a LOT of trouble between myself and my ex. I used to have a high libido and now...I might be aroused once or twice per month.
4: Migraines. I'd usually get them once or twice a year, depending on how stressful work was, but now I get them if I spend more than 2-3 hours at any activity. It sucks to get a migraine when you're fishing!
5: Sleeplessness/insomnia & restlessness. I put those two together because when I DO get to sleep, I toss and turn and I'm fidgety all day. I might get to sleep at 3 AM and I have to be up by 6 AM. On my days off, I might get to sleep by 5 AM and not get out of bed until 11 or 12. I've got no energy at all and it takes me a long time to be really aware of what's going on around me.
I think the only reason I've lost weight on this pill is because I've stepped up my workout routine to get some energy. Otherwise, I'm sure I'd have gained weight. I'm relieved to find that I'm not the only woman having troubles with Aviane.

Well I have been on Aviane-28 for hormonal and period uses. Note that I'm 14 years old and I'm not sexuality active. I have been on Aviane for exactly 1 month 1 week and 4 days, and I HATE IT. I got this med to even me out my period pains and lately I have been feeling like crap, seriously. For the first month, my period lasted for that WHOLE MONTH. All I was interested in, I now hated, for no exact reason. In the same month, I was crying all the time and it made me so depressed. I told my mom about it and she said I should stay on it, but I really don't know what I should do. I have been eating like CRAZY and become so nauseated afterword. And for those of you who are just like me and have a panic disorder, it makes it that much WORSE with the episodes. I have noticed that my hair was been falling out a bit, and didn't realize it was the med itself from the comments has said above and below my comment. Honestly I thought it was from my hair dye that I did 2 months, but that doesn't seem right to judge that. Another thing was, I woke up at least 4 times last night and I really don't know why. Oh and a question for those of you who have tried out this birth control, had you ever had a weird dream of being pregnant? Just asking.

Last month I stopped using Aviane because I saw a severe weight change. I had no ambition to do anything, and felt quite sluggish. The month I stopped I saw such a change in my attitude and not to mention my level of energy. I felt normal again! I had self motivation to go to the gym everyday and felt great. I even got better sleep. But after I stopped using the pill I noticed something hadn't come. Its been two months since my last period, and I'm not sure if its just a body adjustment or if somethings actually wrong.

....and every test came back negative..my sex life was really becoming a problem and I didn't know what was wrong. I then decided to stop my pill as I had missed 3-4 in a row. Believe it or not, I believe for that time it began to improve. I am now back on the pill, it is not as bad as it once was. I wonder if it's my bodies way of getting used to it, or is it a bad reaction to the pill? I am 19, and I have talked to my mother about this. She says to wait and see if I can get used to the pill..
does anybody have any information?
Anything will help!

I'm not sure if this is from starting Aviane, but I began the pill in the beginning of May, around the end (17th) of June, my vagina felt very sore and painful. I figured something had irritated it, but a week later I attempted to have sex with my partner, and I couldn't. Since then it would burn as we would attempt intercourse, and also the outside would get irritated very easily, after 5 minutes of sex! We would make sure it was lubricated enough, but inside me it still felt very dry and it would burn, though it certainly was not dry. Also, my clitoris had felt very sensitive to touch during oral sex.. which is also something not normal! I went to my doctor, wondering if I had an infection. He checked, even for STD's though I knew I had none (I only have had one partner)

Well, I'm back to report what is going on with me since going off of Aviane. I posted on July 25th 2009.
I am 100% better since I've stopped the Aviane pill! YAY! My negativity is gone, anxiety is gone, my weight gain has stopped. I no longer feel bloated or insecure about myself. No more spotting, no more night waking, no more depression and I'm not exhausted anymore. I have to say I finally feel like myself again-thankfully. This pill was definitely not for me.
Thanks again to all those who posted :)

I been taking BC since was 15 then i stopped having sex for about 9 months, so i stopped taking the pill! I started taking Aviane 16 days ago. Gosh the first day I took the pill, I felt so sick i couldn't eat anything I just wanted to vomit. This continued for like the whole week. I then became so irritated, like everything just got me super angry. I was yelling so much at everyone for very stupid reasons. The thing that freaked me out the most was i bleed for like two weeks (I wasn't sure if i had a miscarriage) I still have bad cramps! and still have super bad mood swings. From reading all of these comments it seems like my body just isn't use to all the hormones, a lot of people mentioned that waiting for 3 months is the right thing to do. Everyone's body is different, I'm emotional as it is when it comes to my period. So will see what happens! I mean it sucks to go threw these symptoms especially when your only 17 and not sexually active! Oh yeah I want to add one more thing, i haven't experienced any weight gain. I'm already tiny (108 pds) so I actually wouldn't mind gaining like 10-15 pds! and my breast's haven't gotten bigger =( there's no swelling. So I think I'm fine. I just want the moodiness to go away!
hope I helped!

I've been on birth control since my early 20's and now I'm 39. My most current bc was Diane 35 which was not bad. I was scared about the risks of using birth control after the age of 35 so changed to a lower form of birth control-Aviane. Was suppose to have Alesse but was given the generic Aviane. I've gained weight so most likely due to my bad habits, old age due to a lower metabolism. I'm sure I'm at my max weight of 120. I've been feeling horrible in the dressing rooms when I'm trying on clothes and my stomach seems to be more "muffin top" than normal. Also, feel very bloated all the time...thus, a spa rep had asked me how many months I was(might have been the type of top I was wearing but...) I just went on the scale at a gymn I was trying out and to my shock I had gained 10 pounds? I haven't eaten that much different lately...is it Aviane? I think it's time for me to get off bc..

Holy hell. I don't think I'll ever find a birth control i like. After being on Aviane for a few months i have developed bad acne in my T-zone. Ive never had perfect skin - a zit here and there every once in a while, but recently its been quite bad. Also i have been quite irritable. Is Aviane to blame? Im gonna keep researching.

I've been on Aviane for the past couple of weeks. This is my first experience with birth control and I'm 23. So far the only side effects that I have experienced are: slight irritation that went away, sparse small pimples, light spotting, and slight loss of appetite. I'm not complaining about these symptoms in the least. Each woman's body will react differently to each pill she's on. So not every woman will have the same experience with this pill as another may have, as obviously stated by the previous comments. In saying that, I don't think people should read these blogs and either (a) not choose this pill because of somebody else bad experience, or (b) expect these things to NOT occur when you get on a pill because most of the symptoms people are describing are listed in the information pamphlet that comes with the pills and are outlined by your Doctor before you start taking them. If symptoms are that severe, talk to your Doctor. It's not that this pill is "bad" or "no good" it's just not suitable for everyone.

Hi There :)
I went to the doctor 2 days ago and was prescribed alesse, but the pharmacy gave me aviane instead, as my mom's health insurance only covers generic brands. Now I have a 3 month prescription sitting in front of me, and after reading about all of these negative experiences, I don't know what to do! this is my first pill (I'm 17 - 18 soon) and I really don't want any negative side effects. My main reasons for going on the pill were skin problems, and that I have horrible cramps that put me out of commission for 1-2 days every month.

I just started aviane three days ago and am already experiencing the anger issue. I am one of the most enthusiastic and happy people you'll ever meet. The day after I started aviane I got into a huge fight with my boyfriend for the first time ever, and again today (my third day) I yelled at him to the point of making him cry, I can't go on like this. Its scary how many women are having this problem with this BC. I'm stopping taking these pills immediately before things get worse.

I have been taking Aviane for several months. My sex drive has diminished quite a bit and I am having trouble losing weight. In the past I've lost weight pretty easily by eating less and exercising, but since I've been taking the Aviane, it's been a struggle. I was on Yaz for awhile, but switched to Aviane because it's a $10 co-pay vs. $50, but I'm not sure it's worth it. Tomorrow I am going to call my doctor to see if I can switch back to the Yaz...

I cannot believe I happened to find this page today!! Thank GOD!!
I was looking up reasons for being exhausted and irritable (which I feel I am ALL the time lately) and thought- maybe it has to do with my birth control pill. After reading these posts it sounds to me that it does!
I have been taking Aviane for 10 months now- prescribed Alesse after the birth of my daughter but was given Aviane by the pharmacy because it is a generic that is supposed to be the same as Alesse. I have been depressed, irritable, unable to sleep, overly exhausted, spotting for 3 weeks, and am beginning to gain some weight. I brushed the depression off because I thought it was my hormone levels returning to normal after the pregnancy. Unless I have postpartum depression (which I don't feel I do) then my hormones should have stabilized by now!
As for the weight gain- I'm not eating any differently than usual- maybe less do to the stress of being in school part time, being a mom and wife, and working, so this gain is not typical for me. Generally, when I'm stressed I lose a few pounds.
My irritability is out of control! Since I've been on Aviane I have been angry and mean. My reactions feel out of control. I can't count the times I've told my husband that I don't know why I'm acting the way I am and that I feel my "freak outs" are beyond my control. I have destroyed some of my husband's personal property as well as my own during fits of rage. When I pull myself outside of these situations I say to myself- who the hell is that person because It's not me. I used to be very laid back, easy going, and rarely angry in the past.
Every night I wake up at least 3 times on my own. My daughter sleeps through the night so I can't attribute my lack of sleep and night waking to her. I can't seem to get through the day without a nap. Sometimes I take two because I feel so tired.
All of these behaviors are so uncharacteristic to me. Before I had my daughter I was a competitive soccer player and enjoyed running, hiking, and biking. I traveled the country working as an archaeology field tech where I would work 10-12 hours outside all day, sometimes walking 4 miles or more a day in the hot summer sun. I enjoyed life and was light hearted and funny. I would never raise my voice to the people I care and never considered myself someone with a temper. Sadly, for the last 4 months I have been walking through life wondering what is the matter with me and wondering why I couldn't get myself together. I never even thought to research the side effects of my pill!!
Thank You EVERYONE for posting your thoughts or problems because it has helped me to see that maybe this pill isn't for me!! I am going to stop and will post again in a few months to let people know if my life has changed for the positive since quitting this monster of a pill.

I just started taking Aviane 2 weeks ago, and i have another 2 weeks left until my first pack runs out. I went on it because I get pimples on my face and I want them gone. I am only 14 so I don't have to worry about stopping myself from getting pregnant because that wont be happening anytime soon.. but I just really want my blemishes to go away once and for all!! I have heard that it gets worse before it gets better, and it seems that so far that is kind of true. Some of my face seems to be clearing up, while the other part is not clearing up at ALL. I'm going to weight for sure until I take the full pack and get my period. I haven't gotten my period for 5 months, my period is super irregular.. i got it 2 years ago and i get it every 5-7 months. I need to get back on schedule, so that is another reason on why I need to take this pill. So I am hoping that after I get my period that my face will clear up. Wish me luck. My face means a TON to me.. :)

I've been on Aviane for almost 3 years now. I decided to look up the pill for the first time today because I was frustrated with my unexpected weight gain. Of course I have had other symptoms on this pill such as irritability and depression but I never really related it to the pill. Other than that I have loved this pill and thought I was walking in the clouds compared to my other friends and their bad experiences with birth control!
My question to all of you is: could my unexpected weight gain be due to the pill or something else entirely? Since I've been taking it for so long I'm not sure it's possible that it could be the pill. Here are a few facts:
I am 23 years old (so I started the pill when I was 20). I have gained about 15 pounds since I've been on it. I eat very healthy and exercise 3 days a week. I have never had any problems with weight gain in my mid section until now and so I am looking for answers!

I have only been on Aviane for a week and a half. Within the first couple days, I noticed some bloating, which annoyed me, but which I thought would eventually go away. It didn't. In fact, it keeps getting worse. My routine is the same; yoga each morning for an hour, plenty of walking, a healthy diet. But I have gained at least 10 or 12 pounds in this short period of time, and each day seem to balloon. On top of it, I am nauseated every day, as soon as I sit still for a moment. I've also had a noticeably reduced sex drive, anxiety, and have been easily provoked into feelings of anger and depression, so much that I've often taken myself out of the situation mentally, noticed my ridiculousness, and felt out of control in preventing my responses! I think it's not only affecting my relationship, but absolutely affecting my sense of self-control and self-esteem. I can't deal with this, and after reading most of these posts and learning that I'm not alone, I realize it doesn't necessarily get better, and often gets worse. Everyone is different, of course, but I think this brand, and maybe even method, is having a very negative impact on my life. Thank you all for sharing your experiences. It's been a huge help. I'm going to look into other methods and am looking forward to feeling like myself again!

I have been using this for 3 months. My problem with it is- Acne. All of a sudden I have weird breakouts all on my forehead and on my cheeks where i've never broken out before. The reason I switched to this from Microgestin was because of my lack of sex drive. With Aviane- it was great! I actually had a sex drive, I was no longer dry down there even when I was in the mood if I ever was. Im sad that I have to give this up since I haven't had many problems with this but acne. However that being said- having acne on my face made me pretty self conscious, feeling like Shriek and not in the mood to get physical. So kind of a libido killer. However- my best friend is on Allesse the generic form- and she has a great libido but acne too! I figured it would subside after a few months but she's been on it for a year- and nothing! Although she did increase a cup size. Not my case though ; ( I will be trying Yasmin in a couple weeks. Hope that turns out okay.

I have been on Avaine for almost 2 years. I have been on almost every birth control since I was 16. From depo to the patch and four types of pills. I was diagnosed with PCOS have been on Avaine for almost 2 years. I have been on almost every birth control since I was 16. From depo to the patch and four types of pills. I was diagnosed with PCOS 2 years ago… they took me off my pill tri-sprintek (I think that how spell it) I loved that pill. Didn’t have any mood swings, and my periods would come on a Wednesday and stop Saturday. I was on Yasmin (YAZ) because of the PCOS… it helped with my hormone imbalance, but gave me chest pains. I had to switch to Avaine, I have to admit that my sex drive is lower then what it use to be. My period starts Friday or Saturday and ends Monday or Tuesday. My pimples are gone and I have lost a lot of weight. Not sure if it’s due to some of the other pills I take. It’s not such a bad birth control. But it’s not for everybody. So if doesn’t work for you change your pill. But it can take your body up to 3 months to get use to.

I didn't have a very good experience with Aviane. I took it for two months and within the first week of taking it I felt angry all the time, enough so that I was snapping at people for no reason!
During the second month of this pill I lost the ability to sleep through the night, I was up two or three times a night and had no reason to be. On top of that when I did sleep I had incredibly vivid dreams usually I would wake up and not feel rested. My breasts were very sore as well and swollen, my bras actually no longer fit! Unfortunately my sex drive took a dive too, I rarely had the desire and usually that isn't the case. During this month I also gained weight, which is ridiculous seeing as though nothing about my lifestyle was changing. I was really upset!
I'm glad that by chance I found this website, now I realized it was indeed Aviane. I did get off of it and I am trying a new pill next month.

I've been on aviane for about 8 months. My cycles were pretty regular before I started it, but since I've been on it, they have become iffegular. My doctor told me to wait it out, because it takes time for your body to adjust, but really, 8 months? Once this pack is done, I'm going off it. I don't need the stress of thinking I am pregnant every month because my period comes two weeks late!

Just quit these nasty pills today. Reading all these posts helped me make the decision for sure. I've been so depressed about my weight gain and muscle pain. Not to mention headaches and exhaustion. Thanks to everyone for sharing their experiences. I'm looking forward to a happier, healthier (albeit crampier) me.

hi my daughter is almost 17 and just started Aviane for her painful periods and acne. The doctor told her he was putting her on alese but the pharmacist told us Aviane was the same only cheaper. Well the day after she started taking it she missed school, her muscles were so sore she could hardly move, she had a good fever ( was cold even though we were experiencing record high temps of 35 deg, on may 31) that night she was vomiting and she looked so awful I kept her home again thinking it was a virus. She went to school the last 2 days but has so much joint pain she can hardly move or bend over. This is a very healthy athletic teen who is hard to stop, and has a high pain threshold. Any ideas? anyone have the same symptoms? I know they say to give it some time but this is ridiculous. She has a prom date tomorrow and she won't even be able to dance! Not sure after reading these comments if I should leave her on it one more day.

I have had the exact same side effects that most of you have reported. Hair loss/thinning at the temples, weight gain and more acne than I have EVER had in my life. I just threw the rest of the pills away today thank god I researched this and saw all of these wonderful, helpful comments. Now, I will need to see a doctor to see if my hair will come back.

I was on Alesse for years to regulate my hormones and it worked very well. The pharmacy automatically changed it to Aviane when this product came out. For the first few months I didn't notice any changes in me, but during a physical my doctor told me that many of her patients were going back to Alesse because of problems with Aviane. I guess I forgot about what she said for a while because I was fine, but since then my periods alternate between almost no cramps/no flow one month, to unbearable cramps and super heavy flow the next month. I get many pimples one or two weeks a month on my face and chest (on Alesse I would always get just one face pimple per cycle), I am nauseous two weeks a month (last month I called in sick for two days in a row because of it), most of the time I have a dull pain behind my eyes, and around the 3rd week of each cycle I have horrible personal itch issues, sometimes leading to yeast infections. I had a light bulb moment yesterday, realizing that this could all be due to Aviane. I am going back to Alesse no matter the cost.

I feel like such an idiot. I'm usually so careful about new things. When I was prescribed Alesse 3 years ago I researched all the side effects, but I never had a problem. About a year ago, my pharmacy offered me Aviane, and since the pharmacist told me it was exactly the same as Alesse I figured I might as well save a few bucks. I trusted the pharmacist, and never thought to research the side effects since I believed it was the same. Now I know I was so wrong. I never connected the side effects until recently. I have noticed thinning hair around my temples for about 6 months, and it wasn't until I googled that expecting to find that its a normal part of aging (even though I'm only 25) that I came across so much about Aviane. Then reading everyone else's experiences, I realized I hadn't connected all the other side effects to this generic brand. I had rapid weight gain the first 3 months and have been unable to lose it no matter what I do. The depression, low sex drive, acne, and practically constant yeast infections I think now are all connected to Aviane. After reading this yesterday, I went straight to my pharmacy and switched back to Alesse. Even though it cost me $25 with my health plan (2 years ago it only cost $6 so I wonder if my plan pays less because of the cheaper alternative) I don't care, I just want to be healthy and sane again. Thanks for sharing your stories, they made me realize there was a problem and I can't wait to start my new pack tomorrow and see what happens.

I've been on Aviane for about 8 months now. At first it was just fine, but then I started noticing a slow weight gain. When I moved to a new city, walking more I lost about 10 lbs, but since being on Aviane it's being gained all back despite my continuation of walking and eating the same. It sucks because I loved losing that last 10 that I wanted to for so long..and now it's all back. Ugh! After reading all these posts, I've also noticed that I've been so much more emotional and irrational about events in my life and every few weeks my boyfriends and I will have an "off week" and that's not fun either.
I also noticed my bra size increase and I have been so tender there all the time! My period comes at a normal time, but it lasts forever! 7-8 days! Before I went on BC it only lasted about 3-4.
I did start on NuvaRing but it made me spot for about 3 months...and during the summer that's not fun either!
I just really hope I can find something that will work with my body. I was reading some of the people who have the same symptoms and it looks like Yasmin or Orthotricylen might work better? I'm going to have to ask my doc. It sucks though that I'm going on a trip next week and will have to wait at least 2 months before I can change!

Im 15 im suppose to start aviane on sunday and to be honest im afraid im not sexually active im on this because of my horrible cramps.(i have been trying to avoid this for 5 years with other medication perscribed by my doctor.) Im afraid of the side affects that i have read about and i dont want to take it but i just want my cramps to go away i was told im at a high risk of blood clots and high blood pressure. After reading all of these side effects i want to go back and get a new kind. My question is should i try it or should i switch right away?
