Biaxin and metalic taste

I am on Biaxin for Laryngitis and an upper respiratory infection. I went to the ER because I felt I couldn't clear my chest congestion and I was miserable. He prescribed me 500mg of Biaxin twice daily. I have just taken my 4th pill. Day 2 over. I have the stomach aches like everyone talks about. They feel like im starving, but I know im not because I just ate. Strange. The taste in my mouth is disgusting no doubt. It's a metallic taste, but not too bad. I keep drinking flavored waters and sucking on candies and that helps with the taste. I have had mild diarrhea today, twice. I actually have, previous to taking this medicine, a heart racing condition known as PSVT. I take medication for it to slow my heart down and lower my blood pressure. So far, thankfully, I have had no reaction in my heart to this medication but I am worried. I will keep this updated as it seems that most people started having more problems in days 3 and 4. hmmm. I have taken the Z-pack several times, (im always sick it seems like) and have never had any problems with it. I used to take amoxicillin, but it never seems to work on me. I think my body is now resistant do to taking it so often. I also take Zoloft for anxiety, so im pretty worried, ha ha, that I might have this severe depression or anxiety attack problem a lot of people seem to be having. Ill wait and see. I called the pharmacist tonight to tell him about my stomach problems and he said (Walgreens Pharmacy) that it was not an allergic reaction and would probably be fine, but to consult my doctor just in case. I will call tomorrow and update this if I end up having any other reactions or if he prescribes me something different.

im currently on my 4th day with biaxin. i can say this is the worst ive ever been sick. the dr said i had acute pharyngitus and this would clear up the infection and to take it for 10 days. so far i think the infection has spread to my lower throat, my right ear and who knows where else so far. im in so much pain it hurts to swallow water, im dehydrated, havent eaten anything except a half a bowl of soup and icy pops in the last 5 days, and im begining to wonder if this stuff is gonna kill me!?! ive thrown up a few times, i have a horrible metalic taste in my mouth, the right side of my neck seems to be effected the worse. im scared to go through with the full 10 day treatment but im not sure what else to take.

Bad metalic taste
headaches
depression
upset stomach with cramps and diarrhea
breakouts (pimples/acne)

I've been on it for 5 months for an infectious disease caught while boating. I'm unable to stop taking the medication because the infection will spread on my legs. I'll never take this medicine again. I've asked to put on something else but the ID doctor refuses.

I also have had some of these crazy side effects but but most of them are just the effects of having an infection and I think the Biaxin perpetuates those effects. I have the Metallic taste in my mouth and the first couple days I got nuasiated after taking each dose. The sweats and nightmares too!! Wow I thought it was just something else. Let me tell you though I have not been able to sit down. Which is a good thing I guess but I guess that is just anxiety. After a couple days on this drug the side effects went away other than the metalic taste and increased energy. I cleaned my house for 12 hrs for 2 days. I am not going to complain but I find this to be very weird. Energy and motivation from a antibiotic... It does seem though that I get rare side effects from any medication I take but this is a trip. I sure which it didn't feel like I sucked on steal for a whole day!! I find these side effects to be very bizare but I guess when I need some energy I'll just take a Biaxin..well that is i'll feel better after the nausiated feeling goes away. Ha ha taking for reason other than precribed, isnt that abuse LOLOLOLOL

I have been taking biaxin for 8 days for a URI and a sinus infection. The metalic taste in my mouth is awful. I taste it all day and night. I can't sleep good. It takes hours and hours to fall asleep. I have been very depressed. I didn't even want to be around my husband. I felt strange feelings about him. Like he just gets on my nerves, etc.... I am very tired all the time. I am not a napper, but have been finding myself just wanting to lay in bed and try and fall asleep during the day. This morning I woke up with a terrible stomach ache and has been hurting all day. I have 5 pills left and have decided to stop taking them. I thought I would go online and find out if this is what is making my stomach hurt. I am shocked about what I read. At the time time I am relieved to know that the depression and imsomnia are due to this drug. I will call my doctor tomorrow and let him know that I will not take this again.

I got the metalic bitter taste in my mouth from Clarithromycin. I'm taking it for pneumonia.
No diarrea yet though!
Boy do I feel better after just 4 doses. But that metalic taste sucks.

I have been on biaxin,flagyl,prevacid for 3 days and I am not taking it anymore. I was suppose to be on these meds. for 2 weeks for a stomach disorder I have. I was very sick in bed while on these meds. my symptoms where blurred vision,diarreah,chills,confusion,horrible metalic taste,I could'nt eat or drink anything and I called my doctor and he said keep taking it!!!!!! yes, believe it he did, so needless to say I 'm finding another doctor asap. I have hypertension and it also increase my heart rate and my pressure was high.
We go to the doctor because we are sick and need help and they prescribe meds. to us that makes us worse! We can't take them so we pay for prescriptions we can't take! I think when doctors prescribe something we can't take or they change it (oh, my mistake they should have to reinburse us)

I had a really bad bleeding ulcer on 06-02-04 and was in the hospital 4 days. One month later I had to see a GI doctor. He told me that I had the bacteria that causes ulcers. I was given a Prevpac that consist of Previcid 60mg 2x a day, Amoxicillin 1000mg 2x a day, and Biaxin 500mg 2x a day. By the second dose I was nervous, sweating, panicking, and a taste like metal in my mouth. I told the doctor about it and he said I was just under a lot of stress. He said to keep taking the meds. Two days later I had the first panic attack of my life. As the days past the symptoms got worse and I got blisters on my tounge. I changed doctors and was told by 2 different ones that the Biaxin was the culprit. That was 16 months ago and I still have a metalic taste once in a while, nervous tremors, blisters on my tounge about once a month, depression once in a while,and i'm scared to try any other meds to help my current symptoms.

I am a 21/f, 105lbs. I began taking Biaxin XL for what was a bacterial infection in my throat and a mild ear infection. I have been taking 1000mg daily(all at one time as prescribed) for four days(I still have three days left on my prescription). My side effects include: severe stomach pains and discomfort, nausea but can not vomit--until day 4, loss of appetite, metalic taste in my mouth that never goes away, digestive problems, dehydration symptoms, trouble sleeping, extremely moody and emotional. I am unsure if I will finish this prescription, most likely I will not. I decided to check more about this drug tonight after another miserable day. Taking this medicine is worse than my sore throat and ear...I am not sure if taking Biaxin is worth it, the side effects are too extreme and last 24 hours...

Only been on for 5 days. Was just checking the web to see if I was going crazy or if all this stuff is "normal". Taking the Biaxin extended release, for pneumonia. I too have experienced:
- Sleeplessness
- Night sweats
- nightmares (I dread bedtime!)
- Horrible metalic taste (which I think is causing me to clench my teeth and giving me a headache)
- some abominal discomfort
- dizziness,
- physically larthargic, but mentally energized; can't seem to shut my brain off

I took it at night the first three times and then switched to mornings to see if I could sleep any better. It didn't help. The symptoms just last 24 hours now. When I took it at night, I didn't notice side effects so much in the day. But then I was so tired from not sleeping - it's hard to tell what's causing what.

I've been on it for about a week. Hate the metalic taste but can live with it for a while.

Feeling very restless--unable to sleep. Does seem like when I was on prednisone.

Very crabby--can get very angry very quickly.

Yeast infection starting...I get this with Augmentin too after a few days.
