I was on Cipro (daily dose 1500mg) for over a beginning June 08. I'm petite 5'2" about 98lbs.

My feet started to ache. My knee's ache so much it hurt when walking down the stairs. I lost my appetite and couldn't eat. I would wake up constantly at night. I would sleep for hours on hours but would still feel fatigue when I woke up. I would have vivid nightmares which also disturbed my sleep. I would have trouble remembering things also.

After stopping the med's sometime in July. Most of these symptoms went away. I still have problems remembering things.

Now a new symptom has occurred. My hair is falling out rapidly. Every time I run my hands through my hair around 15-20 strands come out. When I shower my hair clogs the drains. A bunch comes out when I brush it.

I'm scared and wondering if anybody else has had these issues. My doctor is referring me to a dermatologist but the next appt isn't until Sept.

I get constant UTIs. I have for 5 or 6 years now and my urologist recently gave me this medication to take "as needed" in order to prevent full blown UTIs and in order to prevent me from going to see him every single month, if not multiple times a month.

The medication works great and quickly. I used to take amoxicillin but it is not very strong and no longer works for most people so I needed something more effective. And since I am allergic to other antibiotics most frequently prescribed for UTIs, such as Bactrim, and macro, I had only a few options left. The only side effects I notice is that I get some discharge.

It's very effective, but if you are a female and sexually active, you must be very careful since this medication can cause birth defects!

It scares me, I am currently on it and I have had extremely bad mood swings, I cry for no reason and it scares the S*it out of my boyfriend because it sometimes looks like i am on E or some other kind of drug because my pupils become really dilated and I just start balling for no reason! Idk what to do or if there is another antibiotic I can go on???

After 20 cyscosopies and three bladder ops. for bladder cancer I am now having periodic UTI's which necessitate urgent anti-biotic treatment.
Recently for the first time Ciprofloxacin was prescribed for 7 days at 1000mg/day. After six days I could not walk and my hands felt as if all the bones had knitted together. The pains in both areas was intense and I could not understand what was happening. It took 10 days for the pain to subside and I can only hope that reading these experiences that is the end.
One other thing must be reported and that concerns resting heart beat.Every six months I take my own blood pressure and pulse readings and report same to my GP in order he may check my medication.
After five years of such readings whereby the resting pulse was averaging 45-50 after this little episode it has shot up to 77-80.
The BP has not altered.I agree I too will never take this drug again!
Thank you all from Buckinghamshire in the UK.
