My 5 year old has only been on this for one day. As soon as I picked him up from school I could tell that he was not in a good mood. He was mad about everything! He threw 3 big tantrums last night that each lasted about 30-45 minutes. I am trying it again today to see how he does tonight. If it's anything like last night... I'm going to stop giving it to him and try something natural. He was hitting himself in the head over and over again and saying "I want to die".

My 10 yr old is taking Concerta and it is the worst thing that i have every seen happen to a child. i am looking into ways to get him off the medication. it is horrible. he is fine during the day but in the evening he is a totally different person. Annoyed and irritated all the time, sad, angry, aggressive, mildly violent. he has melt downs every night and lately they have been lasting for 4 hours. no one is getting sleep and it is very stressful for the family. this drug should be banned....

My son has been on Concerta 54 for 2 years now. His grades have drastically increased and his attitude is great while he os on the meds. I do notice that he comes down from the meds in about 8 hours and his relapse is not fun. He becomes extremely emotional and violent. He will cry at the drop of a hat when things do not go his way. He also wants things to perfection. I also notices he picked up some bad ticks like popping his knuckles or clearing his throat. He is very negative when he comes down from the meds and has a hard time falling asleep.

I'm 16 and I've been on concerta since I was in 7th grade (I'm now a Junior in High School) As soon as I started the medication All my Grades Went up. you could even see on my Grade Reports that I was getting B's and C's before my Concerta and After I started Taking Concerta I was getting A's and it felt Great. As time went on I started being not hungry all the time, and some times I wouldn't eat for 3 or 4 days in a row. I would also sleep as soon as I got home from school and would get easily annoyed with everyone and anyone. I'd be extremely happy and joking, then suddenly it would shift and if anyone said anything, i'd get extremely annoyed. I also noticed how different my thoughts were, not 'bad' different, but just different. My Doctor said the side effects would go away but its been over five years and they haven't. I'm not going to go off of it because i hate it when I forget to take it one day. So the goods completely over power the bads with Concerta.

17 year old boy took Adderal for 7 years - got increasingly more violent, hallucinations, paranoia- added other meds to treat these symptoms, hospitalized twice. Taken off all meds and all these symptoms went away (except for the ADD). Recently, started back on 36 mg. Concerta to treat ADD and violent behavior returned after about 2 weeks.

Do a google search for Concerta + violent behavior and you'll see a lot more info about this "hidden danger." How many kids are being put on lots of other psychiatric meds to treat symptoms that were brought on by these stimulants? We'll take the ADD instead.

My 6 year old daughter Started taking concerta about 3 months ago. Some things I've noticed are, loss of appetite and loss of weight.
She has had very noticeable academic improvement at school. She is concentrating better. At home I l see how she can go through mood swings and emotional episodes. She snaps all of the sudden and cries if things don't go as she expects. I'm not sure why this is happening. She is currently on the 36 mg. I really don't like having her on this or any other medication. It's very frustrating trying to decide what is best for your child.
She is also taking Singulair for her asthma and allergy symptoms. I was reading the reviews on that medication and they are scary! I don't know if her emotional episodes have to do anything with singulair or concerta med side effects. For now I'm definitely taking her off Singulair and see what happens.

I am 25, female. Started Concerta about a month ago and LOOOOVE it!! I never realized that I had ADD, it has been a big relief to figure it out. I've always done fairly well in school, but have always had a hard time concentrating. I could tell the improvement the very first day!! It was absolutely amazing to me! Started on 18mg for one week, increased to 36 for 3 weeks, and now I am on 54. Also, I have gone to the doctor several times for help with anxiety. It was anxiety more in social situations and I was constantly worried about things, which stressed me out. Concerta has helped me majorly! I was concerta when I read the Concerta info and it said not for people with a history of anxiety, but the anxiety was actually part of my ADD. I am so glad I found this drug!!

My 8 year old son was started on Concerta a few months ago, has severe ADHD & Bipolar Disorder Type 2. He has become more agitated, very short fuse with 7 year old brother, hallucinations - visual of a movie thats coming out - kinda like a harry potter but more creepy, but I'm not sure if it is the concerta or the combo w/ his celexa and risperdal. I increased his risperdal from .75 mg to 1 mg, and it seems to help. He has alot of personal things going on also that could be contributing, any ideas if this could be the concerta or the combo? His Dr is having us get an MRI and a Neurophysical exam to rule out anything physical causing the effects, wants to cover all bases before changing meds. Any feedback welcome (he has been on the celexa and risperdal for a few years now and I know they are not the cause, I have extensive experience with these two meds, just not the concerta) We have also tried Strattera, but it made him too sleepy as it is a non stimulant. Thank you

My six year old son has been on Adderall every since he was four years old. The teacher didn't like how he was acting in class. She sad he looked sad all the time and not acting like a six year old. Now he's on the concerta 18mg and she complains because he's laughing more and acting like a six year old should act. He's even eating his breakfast and lunch and wouldn't eat when he was on the Adderall. I don't think I'm going to let them put him on anything else, these sorry ass teachers are just going to have to do their jobs and deal with some behaviors while teaching a class.

My son was changed from Adderall to Concerta. He started having a lot of side effects on 18mg. I told the doctor and he doubled the dose to 36mg. In three days, he went totally out of control. In the following 4 days, we had 3 emergency room visits, two hospitals and two ambulance rides. Now I am facing lots of bills and no help from the doctor. My son's side effects were weight loss, loss of appetite, mervousness, fast heartbeat, unusual sadness, irritability, dilated pupils, hallucinations, twitching, temors, throwing up, yelling at me, nose bleeds, behavior changes, and dizziness. He now is off all ADHA medications. Please read what the side effects are and stop the medication if they show up.

Male 26, Dose 36 mg Concerta daily

This medication has been highly effective in treating my inattentiveness or ADD as I am diagnosed.

I experience slight nervousness while taking the medication - this side effect seems to be worse when I take caffeine.
Thus I try to avoid coffee, etc.

Overall, the medications benefits far outweigh the side effect.

My son is on concerta and has done much better ifocusing in school. I do see mood swings when the concerta wears off and he has been running his fingers through his hair and just told me he is pulling at the hair. Has anyone else experienced the hair issue with this?

10yr old stepson has taken it for about a yr. Started at 36mg a day, down to 18mg a day now. The last few weeks he has had a lot of violent behavior towards other kids at school. We aren't sure if it is caused by taking Concerta but, we are in the process of looking into something else.

This is the greatest thing to ever happen to me. Concerta helps me focus in school and helps me keep my priorities (and school folders) in order. It's true you do loose your appetite while on it. But who out there could die from not supersizing your lunch meals? Also you don't sleep as much if you take it in the afternoon or evening. But other than that, this medicine has redefined how I live my life.

We just started my 6 year old son on this medication. Dr. recently up the dose to 36 mg.

I'm really having a hard time with this, not sure if this medication is going to hurt him later on in life. He's been complaining about not feeling good and doesn't know why?
