I take 5 mcg of cytomel a day. I have symptons like "hayfever". Sneezing, runny nose, sinus drainage, my eyes are sometimes itchy, burning, watery. The glands around my neck swell a little, my jaws hurt, and the inside of my ears itch. The PA in my doctors office said to contiue to try and take it for 2 weeks to see if the symptons ease off. I have started taking cytomel 3 different times and stopped because of the above symptons. I just can't see being this miserable for 2 weeks. I also take 150 mcg of syntroid once a day. I had diagnosed with graves disease in 1994 they gave me radiactive iodine to stop my thyroid from functioning.

I have been taking synthroid and cytomel for years now. Had hyperthyroidism (Grave's disease), had radioactive iodine treatment to leave me without a thyroid. About 6 months ago, I started getting hives. Doctors at first thought it was stress. I am not allergic to anything. The only medicines that I take on a regular basis are synthroid and cytomel. I think it might be because of these drugs but not sure. I have made an appointment to see my internist.

after taking 175 synthroid for 6 months - my thyroid was so out of whack i could sleep and was a complete mess. my doctor has the staff from heck and i by the time i got to see him i was a complete wreck.
anyway - he put me on 25 of cytomel along with reducing the sythroid to 150.
i have to tell you i slept better right away. BUT! i was a wide eyed nut job for the next 3 days! and unfortunatly i had a disability hearing that monday!
i am so upset, because my main complaint was that i was soooo tired. (i have terrible short term memory problems, and cognitive diffuculties) but since my last two weeks were filled with sleepless nights and tired days all i could think of was the need to stay in bed!
back to cytomel. that was Feb 14. its now april 20th. there are days when my hands shake. but i cant be sure what its from. i have many other problems. (not that this shrink beleived me) heck i was wide awake!
but all in all i feeling better now. just have to get my doctor to verify that cytomel caused my spurt of energy. ugh.
oh well nothing is easy.

I am a 55year old female. Had total thyroid removed on March 2 because of papillary carcinoma. I take 25mcg of Cytomel, three times a day. I have been on it for a week.
I get very bad muscle aches, and slight headaches mainly at night. They are however, beginning to ease up a bit. I will have a radioactive iodine treatment in about five weeks. I don't know what to expect. Help!

i was prescribed cytomel as an adjunct to noretriptlin 25mcg twice daily/ I do not have any thyroid problems. Both above drugs were prescribed by a psychiatrist. I began to have brief loss of vision followed by extreme weakness and sweating. these symptoms occur I am currently undergoing a series of cardiological tests because my primary physician found an irregular heart beat via ekg. I have always had an irregular heart beat. All my physicians are aware of all the medications I take which includes a blood thinner. Most unfortunately, am having difficulty connecting the time frame to the "side effect" and datae of beginning the cytomel. I realize I can make the connection by calling the pharmacy tomorrow. I also have an eye disorder with no cure and have lost much of my peripheral vision so at first I thought there may that relationship. But I went to the doctor when I realized I was also experiencing the fatigue, shortness of breath and something quite akin to hyperventilation. I will have my 69th birthday this month and thought my body and mind had a close relationship, but I am beginning to think they have become arch enemies, bent on just confusing the hell out of me.The tests with the cardiologists have been on going for almost two months with no results or diagnosis given.that important phase is due August 27. It is a good thing that patience is one of my virtues although brevity is not. Any comments please and thank you
