I was also given the option of the shot or pills. Was told it would work with just one shot. NO effect on symptoms and am sorry to say have started on the pills. High doses prednisone with tapering schedule by 10mg every 3 days. Right now, the rash and itching are lessened but not gone. Hope the shot doesn't dimple/dent my butt!

I've been getting Depo-Medrol injections in my back for years for degenerative disk disease, and many other things with my back. I recently moved to an area where they have given me 180 mg of DepoMedrol in my neck, thoracic and lumbar spine. I have gained 30 pounds. I am a tiny person and this weight gain is affecting the way I live my life. I've been trying and trying to loose it and it just won't come off. Can anyone help me?

I got my first shot in March of 2007. The first two months were great.. no bleeding. But on the third month I started a very heavy, steady period. I got my second shot (the doctor said the bleeding should soon stop) but it didn't, at all. I HAVE BEEN ON MY PERIOD FOR 8 WEEKS. straight, i have no idea when it's going to end (and neither does my doctor) very very heavy, not lightening up at all, the most severe camps of my life, MISERABLE. I am extremely emotional on the shot, I'm getting bad headaches, and I am having trouble loosing weight. As soon as the shot gets out of my system, I am never going back on it. PLEASE. do not get on the shot.. you will regret it.

After injected inter-muscularly into upper back, traps and neck area, I immediately felt a numb sensation on face lips inside mouth back of throat and dizziness to the point where I was certain I was going to faint. Days, into 2nd week there was still pain at injection sites, tiredness, fatigue, nausea and a constant sore throat. At end of 2nd week after injections, I woke up with a 'mysterious' hive-like rash on my back, abdomen and arms, while asleep one night, that I had never experienced before. My doctor had me take Zyrtec and and cortisone cream on the itchy rash. The day it cleared, I experienced bleeding from my ear, pounding in ear and head. Another thing never experienced before. Others have said he tolerate it well or have lesser side effects than me. I will NEVER allow that to be injected into me again.

My previous post is for the cortio-steroid, NOT the birth control, which is Depo PROVERA. I have all kinds of things to say about Depo Provera (which I was on and regret being on), and none of them are good, except for the convenience.

I got poison ivy for the first time. It wasn't bad like my brother, but lotion didn't help. I wanted out of my misery, so I went to the doctor and he gave me the option of a steroid three times a day for two weeks, or the shot (which would give me relief in a day or two, instead of towards the end). I took the shot, and it worked WELL. I also had some energy, and it helped my sinuses, which constantly feel swollen inside (despite prescription medication). I'd say if you get poison ivy, get yourself out of misery by getting the shot.

This shot has worked well as to not having to take pills everyday , but i waited about 6 months before i got it again usually you take it every 3 months well i had uterus lining tissue coming out of me, the dr said from the depo shot all the hormones placed in my body, i couldn't handle it and my body was losing tissue, i was bleeding off and on, somedays i would be full of energy others i would be sleepy, i started eating more, after taking this a year i have gained about 15 pounds, i quit taking it nov. and still have yet to have a period!!!!

Depo is a BLESSING! I am unable to take birth control pills (plus I'd always forget to take 'em here or there) and I have a latex allergy, so condoms aren't for us. Depo is great; it allows me to concentrate on everyday life for 3 whole months at a time and only 4 shots a year. The first month or two is quirky, up & down with spotting, bleeding, emotions.... BUT it regulates! What birth control doesn't take some getting used to? It's wonderful though; I have two planned children, and no periods with Depo! Able to take the shot for years, come off & get pregnant within months, and go back on while nursing the baby. Give it a try! Oh, and it seems to keep my weight down too!

Hi, I was on Depo for 15 years.

I loved it, no side effects at all, periods stopped, no tummy cramps nothing.. I have now come off it, 6 months ago, thinking it would take years for my periods to return but I got a bit of spotting yesterday, but nothing today.. Anyway, i would recommend it to anyone! ;o)

The only side effect I've had with depo is that I become easily aroused, almost to the point that I have to have sex, either with my husband or by myself, regardless of where I am. I guess that's not a good thing.

I've been on the shot for like 5 years and I've had major side effects. First my period went away completely, then i was on my period for like 3 months straight. When I'm on my period now it last for a long time and I also have blood clots and sometimes the blood is not red it like a brownish. I don't know what to do. I think the next time I see my doctor I'm going to ask for the pills. What do you all think

I have been taking the shot for nearly 4 years and the only side effect I have ever experiences is loss of my period, and frankly it has been wonderful not having to deal with that every month.

I have gained 15 punds since I started the shot a couple of months ago. I can not get the weight off. Ive eaten good, three meals a day with snacks that were an apple, or pear. I never want to have sex with my boyfriend, I hate the shot. It is the worst type of birth control I have EVER experienced.
