I have been on Desogen for about 2 months. Horrible nausea, cramps, and mood swings. I lost 6 pounds on the first month. I had terrible headaches. I started having breakout down the sides of my face and forehead. I wouldn't recommend this but to each is own.

Oh my gosh! I've been on this for almost a year and a half and after reading this it all makes sense! I recently started taking a medicine for mood swings but now I think it's the stupid desogen. I get it from planned parenthood at no cost and it's not worth it. I just went today to get more about a years worth and then i found this and i'm going to an actual doctor and get something that works. My periods have awful clotting and so heavy which they never used to be.I imagine my cramps to feel somewhat like contractions. I have to breathe heavily through them and midol doesn't do a damn thing to help. I'm bitchy and tired and I am so anxious i used to be a dare devil and now I won't even swim in a river. I will hear a song that nobody would think twice about and start bawling. I can't sleep and I'm gaining weight. I used to be an athlete and I should have a great body now i hate myself in a swim suit. My sex drive is nonexistent. I am too dry and when when I'm rarely able to lubricate it goes back to dry in a matter of minutes. I don't even want to have sex I feel bad for my boyfriend. Who has been with me for 2 years and said i'm a different person than when we started dating. Luckily he's stuck around long enough for me to realize the pill is screwing up my life and soon things will be back to normal. I'm not taking it another day. Ladies please get a prescription and don't think it's you if you've experienced anything that we're saying.

all i can say is THIS PILL SUCKS. i stupidly kept taking it for 6 months and since probably the 2nd month i have had horrible vaginal dryness, very bad mood swings, stomach pains, cramps when i get my period and depression. the only severe side effect is the dryness. when i want to have sex i cant because it hurts too much. my boyfriend and i have tried about 8 different kinds of lube and all different brands but nothing is working, we always have to re-apply which kills the mood quickly. spit is an excellent lube for a 5-minute quickie before work but other than that its useless and i don't want to only have quickies the rest of my life! i am only 20 and i am like a dried up old well! luckily i am going to the gyno Friday and telling her i want off this pill!!!!

Was fine for the first two months...a little spotting/some breakthrough bleeding, but nothing really awful. About three months in, I began experiencing terrible anxiety with such terrible panic attacks that I was pretty incapacitated as a mother (my poor little kids). My periods began starting the week before they "actually" started...you could call it "breakthrough" bleeding, but it was really a full-on bleed with lots of clotting, back pain, and cramps so bad I felt like I was having contractions. Most recently has been the nausea, I've actually lost weight because I've hardly been able to eat for weeks (thought it might be morning sickness---yikes!--but luckily my fun 2.5 week period began, painfully, yesterday so I'm in the clear). I didn't realize these things were all related to Desogen until I reread the package...it's pretty clear that the pills are the reason. I'll be switching pills next month at my annual appt.

I also am rare and love this form of birth control. It reduced my anxiety giving me a more stabilized feel, no depression, took away cramps and pms cravings and symptoms (which I had a spectrum of) all my acne is GONE, and I've gained maybe just a few pounds but all these benefits for me have been completely worth it. I have been very happy with it and will probably not go off of it until I want to have kids:) My sex drive has decreased only a little but it was high before so in a way it's kind of nice. I recommend this pil for anyone with an abundance of testosterone, like I had.

I have previously been taking Desogne since 1991. It was a mracle worker for me. I suffer from endometriosis, and it took a while to find Desogen. I had no weight gain on Desogen, my cystic acne evened out and so did my anxiety attacks and mood swings in general. No cramps. I took it everyday - no breaks for periods for 11 years; stopped to conceive (preggo in 3 months, with one remaining ovary); and went back on after finished nursing. I'm going to try loestral now that I'm peri-menopausal - hoping the lower progestin will help.

I took Desogen for two months, and my cramps during my period were worse than they ever were without the pill. I was doubled over in pain quite a few times. Also, I ended up being on my period for almost the entire two months I was on it. So, I had to deal with horrible cramps for two months straight... I've taken a couple other kinds of birth control, and my period NEVER lasted that long on either of them.

I have been on Desogen for 6 months now, and I love it. I'm on it because I normally have really bad cramps, but on this pill, they are like 10 times better. Also, every month I'm on Desogen, my period has been getting shorter, which is great. I haven't had any of the mood swings or acne that some people have mentioned. I was on Seasonale and Levlen before this, and I was like binge-eating while taking those. That has stopped with the Desogen. So, while it seems a lot of women here have had bad experiences, you never know, it might work for you like it did for me.

I have been taken apri for about a week now. I started it the day I got my period because that is how I use to start desogen and I havent been on the pill for about 2yrs but I have such bad cramps from apri, it feels like the cramps you get if you have your period. Now I am freaking out cause my boyfriend and I had sex the first day I started the pill so I dont know if these are pregnancy side effects of just from the pill.I have had spotting and I have noticed that I am breaking out on my face. So far, I dont like apri at all. Now I am wondering if these cramps will ever go away.

I just started taking this pill 6 days ago to get rid of an ovarian cyst before proceeding with IVF. I only have 5 days to go with the pill. Since I have taken it, I have experienced a sudden loss of appetite, bloating and mild cramps. I look forward to stopping this drug.

I DO NOT recommend Desogen!!! I started taking Desogen because it was cheaper through my university health center. I started off fine...then the second and third week I began getting extremely tense in my neck and shoulders, severe headaches, I had nausea for 2 weeks straight. My eating habits changed dramatically - I began to constantly think about food and get terrible cravings. I had no self-control when it came to food. Everytime I ate, even when I was extremely hungry, I became very bloated. I could have a couple bites of something about feel like I spent 3 hours at a buffet. My breasts increased in size and I gained weight due to the change in eating. My sex drive is low - my boyfriend and I used to have sex regularly but I have not had sex in 23 days - he's been keeping count :(. I am very emotional and depressed sometimes. During these two weeks, I have random pains in my abdomen that feel like cramps I would have during my period. I didn't have any kind of spotting or anything and it wasn't too heavy when I was on my period. I also have very loose stools - often diarea (sp?) then I'll take Immodium and get really constipated. I have almost all of the symptoms of pregnancy but there's no way I'm pregnant - it's this stupid birth control. I know that most medicines take 3 months to get right in the body but I stopped my second month. I couldn't handle it. I stopped last night - right before the start of the 3rd week. I feel amazingly better even the day after - I still feel bloated and stuff though. Don't take it unless you want to feel like you are sick 24/7.

Ive been on desogen for more than 6 months now and yes...i got it for free from planned parenthood too. Iv'e noticed that i am much more moody than usual when i have my period, but the cramps don't hurt as bad and my acne is gone. I have gained at least 15 - 20 pounds in the past 6 months. I think it's the pill.I cry easily and i get upset easily. I'm more gassy and i feel bloated and flabby...Maybe that's the real birth control...i'll be so disgusting, that my boyfriend wont want to have sex with me.
