Taking this for a sinus infection that wont go away. Waiting for results of cat scan. I have already tried taking Augmentim 3 times didn't work so not doxycline. The first 2 days was awful stomach issues. Burning in my stomach. The paper said take on empty stomach unless you cant take it so I started taking it right after my meal and much better. The nausea and burning and vomitting feeling went away after 3 days. So did the heartburn. But now I am EXTREME dizzy. While driving I feel out of it and tired and when I get home I start feeling the room spin and freak out so I lay down and then I am done for the night because I am just so dizzy and off balance. Today I got dressed for work and I was going to put on some higher shoes and couldn't balance myself so I stuck to flats. I only have 4 more days of this so I think I may stick it out. I just hope the dizziness goes away.

I was diagnosed with the sexually transmitted disease chlamydia.on 6/18/08 the doctor prescribed doxcycl hyc100mg two times daily for 7 days for me and by 6/21/08 I felt miserable and very itchy and red in the vagina and by then I knew it had to be a yeast infection. This was a good drug that worked for me but I wish the doctor would have told me one of the side effects was a yeast infection. I also did take it once on an empty stomach and also felt nausea and dizziness, some diarrhea, and a little stomach pain but when I felt it coming on I ate something immediately. I would advise this drug but take precautions and when taking it.

I was prescribed doxycycline 2xday for seven days. On the third day I started to feel very sick. However, it was not until the 5th/6th day that I began to suspect I was having a reaction to the antibiotic. I have never had a negative reaction to any medication ever. My symptoms started with severe nausea that lasted all day, and extreme tiredness. The symptoms continued to get worse....muscle aches, joint pains, elevated blood pressure, back & neck pains, unfocused vision, confusion, dizziness, loss of appetite, muscle tremors that woke me from sleep, depression, and anxiety. When I discussed with my doctor that I suspected it might be the medication I was dismissed and told I was developing a virus. They had prescribed this medication often with no problems. I decided to try to stick with it for two more days. That was the biggest mistake ever. I can't really describe what it did to my head, but all I could think about was that I was dying. I guess severe anxiety and paranoia. So, I finally stopped taking it.
It took three full days with no medication for my nausea and mental confusion to begin to subside. It took a few more days for most of the muscle and back pain to go away. It also took about seven days for the depression and most of the anxiety to quiet down. It is now 11 days with no medication and I still have diarrhea, and minor joint pain. I have also stopped drinking coffee because I an still a bit anxious. I have not really gotten back to my routine yet, and will probably hold off going to the gym until next week.
The most frustrating thing of all is that this medication was given to me as a preventative before a small surgery. All the symptoms I was supposed to be watching for I was having. I am sure this contributed to the anxiety.
At least most of the symptoms have gotten better, and I am hopeful that they will continue to improve. I have researched serum sickness and it says it can take 1-2 weeks for symptoms to subside, and up to several months in some cases.
Good luck to everyone.

Wow, I thought I was crazy and even thought I was pregnan! The symptoms of this stuff will drive anyone nuts. I have the gas, bloating, dizziness, nausea, lower abdominal cramps, EXTREME exhaustion, difficulty breathing, foggy in the head, pressure in the head/mild, constant headache, lack of interest in anything, loss of appetite, feeling sad and depressed, and an over-all feeling of not knowing myself. All this started on the beginning of the 3rd week of treatment. I really want my Acne to be gone because I am 41 and not loving the pizza face, but this stuff iss making me crazy! I'm drinking alot of herbal teas and juices to try and keep something in my stomach at all times because I don't eat much anymore. I hope that by the end of my 1st bottle, the weirdness, pains, and the feeling of having a vice grip on my head, will go away. If not, I'm calling it quits with this drug! Good luck all.

I have been taking this crap for a bacterial infection for 4 days now. I have a history of depression and the dr. never warned me that horrible depression was a possible side effect. I have been horribly and scarily depressed since the second day on this garbage. I have been heaving, had the worst stomach pains- like heartburn mixed with a kick in the gut, dizziness, etc. I was advised to stay the course since I only have 3 days left but I will never take this stuff again.

I started taking Doxycycline on Jan 22, 2007 for Lyme Disease. I usually get nausea and/or vomiting with most antibiotics so I try and take precautions. The first day I took it I had nausea, headache, dizziness and a feeling of being "out of it". by the 3rd day the dizziness and the feeling of being "out of it" was gone but after I took it in the morning within 1/2 hour I started feeling severe esophagus pain. It's not like heartburn because it's right below my rib cage. That night I started noticing feeling like there was a lump in my throat. By the next morning the lump felt like a huge knot. Now, It hurts every time I swallow, the esophagus pain never ends. Last night I spent the night crying feeling like everything was hopeless. I thought it was just because I've been dealing with the pain from Lyme and now the pain from the medicine now that I read this message board, I wonder if the hopeless, despondent feeling is from this medication. I have 2 more weeks on this I don't think I can take it that long. I haven't eaten anything because it hurts to swallow and it burns. I cry all the time. I did not read that depression was a side effect but it seems a lot of people are experiencing the exact same symptoms. I don't know how some people have been on it so long. Just the thought of taking another is depressing me beyond belief.

I have been on Doxy for about 6 months now to treat adult acne. It works brilliantly for my skin which is why I am hesitant about stopping it, if I do forget to take it for a day or two the oil and spots come back with a vengeance.
I discovered straight away to take it with food, taking it on an empty stomach caused nausea and dizziness, but I don't get this anymore.
The problem now is I find myself feeling more and more depressed, looking back Ive been flat for quite a while now. I seem to pick up every little bug going round and nothing makes me happy anymore.
I thought it was just me, but reading about it here, makes me wonder if its the Doxy??

I began taking Doxycycline after hospitalization for MSRA. I am currently one week into Doxycycline after five days on IV Vincamycin in the hospital.
Since being home from the hospital I have had bouts of extreem dizziness with an overwhelming feeling of being disconnected from reality.
I am normally a motivated, high functioning person, now I feel overwhelmed, depressed and on verge of tears ( I am not a crier) almost constantly.
The MSRA responded well to the Vincamycin. I experienced extreem dizziness on the fourth day of Vincamycin, but it passed quickly. The dizziness I am experiencing now lasts for a long time.

I took doxy (100 mg a day) for approximately 12 months as a malaria prophylaxis. I experienced mild heartburn for the first month, vomited a couple of times until I learned I must eat a full meal first, and was very sensitive to the sun. After reading the other posts I now think I also experienced two other side effects: extreme lethargy and dizziness--at the time I thought it was due to African heat.

I recently had gum surgery and was prescribed dox. I am only taking 100 mg/day, but I've had extreme lethargy, headaches, itching, swollen lips, nausea and bouts of confusion and dizziness. I feel very sad on this medication and I'm usually a very happy person. I'm stopping the meds today, so hopefully I will be back to my normal self within the next week. I wish I had researched the drug sooner so that I could have stopped taking it earlier...I thought my reactions were due to the pain meds, but I was mistaken!!!

WHAT!!!??? ANTHRAX TREATMENT??? NO WAY!!!
I have never had so many side effects from any pill!!!
I just did a little online research on my twice a day 100mg Doxycycline, and I didn't see hardly any side affects listed.(I think asprin had more.lol) Anyways, I'm taking the med for a possible bacteria infection in which I kinda complained to my wife about alot. Now, I know i'm driving her crazy after I've been complaning about HEART BURN, DIZZINESS, CRAMPS IN SIDES AND LOWER BACK(bed time hours), APPETITE LOSS, LOSS OF ENERGY, SHORTNESS OF BREATH, CONFUSION. This is only my 3rd day on the medication. The crazy part for me about taking the pill is thinking it's the illness that is causing the problems, not the pill. Now for the positives- (1)Hopefully getting rid of my bacteria.(2) Regular bowl movements that I am very proud of!!!
REMEMBER TO FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS TO A TEE. THIS STUFF IS NO JOKE, IT'S GIVEN TO SOME PEOPLE THAT ARE EXPOSED TO ANTHRAX.

I've been taking Doxycycline for about a month now. It seems to be helping my acne pretty good so far. I haven't had any nausea, vomitting, stomach pain or dizziness. Although, if not taken with a full glass of water this med will definately make you feel as though it has become stuck in your throat. I just now figured out why. I kept thinking I was just swallowing it wrong, and it felt like it had gotten stuck, and it gave me terrible heart burn that wasn't soothed by antacids. It's been much better now that I drink lot's of water when I take it. Make sure to drink plenty of water with this drug!

I took 100mg of Doxycycline twice daily for suspected Epididymitis. The first few days I followed the instuctions and didn't notice any side effects. One night though I woke up with incredibly painful heartburn. I think I may have taken the pill without enough water right before bed. After that I continued to take the pills and the side effects started to become worse. I had headaches, dizziness, loss of appeitite, and painful heartburn. My advice to anyone taking this medicine would be to follow the instructions and not take the pill right before sleeping. It has been two days since I stopped taking Doxycycline and the side effects still have not subsided.

Nausea, vomiting, headache, dizziness, acid stomach, dry mouth, dry throat, tight breathing.
I'm taking 200 mg doxycycline, twice a day. I'm 6 weeks into a 9 week regimen for suspected but unconfirmed lyme disease (no memory of tick bite and no positive tests), and in conjunction with permanent Ceftin 500 mg twice daily as a prophylactic against strep which triggered an apparent and ongoing Rheumatic Fever. (I think my doctor is more confused than I am.)
I've gotten nausea and acid stomach, but both of these are lessened if I drink a large glass of water with the doxycycline. 200 mg can be hard to keep down.
I vomited once but only after taking it with other medicines which my doctor assured me wouldn't interfere. So I spaced them apart by 2 hours and started eating some food prior to the doxycycline, and the result was no more nausea or vomiting, and a much easier time.
Headache & dizziness are reduced when I take the doxycycline with food, and then it seems not to hit me as fast or as hard, and so I tolerate it much better.
At first I thought the doxycylline was helping relieve some kind of bronchial infection, but it was actually just drying out my mucus membranes. Now I wake up early with dry mouth, dry throat, and even my lungs get dry which is causing mild difficulty breathing. The bronchitis I thought it was helping was actually not an infection but an autoimmune symptom of the Rheumatic Fever, and it wasn't really helping with that, it just made it drier. Now instead of coughing up fluid, I get this unproductive dry pain when I cough, and my cough sometimes tastes like blood. I feel the dry pain in my lungs all the time now. I'd rather have the fluid.
3 weeks left on this regimen, which seems like an eternity, but I'll try to stay the course since I want to rule out lyme disease. All these high-dose powerful antibiotics and doctors don't even know what I have. They don't seem to be helping me much.

I've been on 100mg of Doxycycline for 4 days due to Bronchitis. I've experienced dizziness, disorientation, lack of appetite, and profound fatigue. While my Bronchitis symptoms are improving, the dizziness and fatigue are really limiting anything I can do during the day. I did some errands for about an hour and a half today and had to come home and take a 2 hour nap to recover. I've not had this happen to me before while taking meds of this sort.

I was prescribed Doxycycline in the form of Periostat for a periodontal problem I was having in November '04. (20mg 2xdaily for 3 months) The first few days on this drug I experienced some low level nausea with some loss of appetite. Within the next couple of weeks the nausea declined but my appetite continued to deteriorate and I was starting to lose weight. By the end of the third week I had virtually no appetite at all and found it extremely difficult to eat anything. I found I was also becoming dehydrated. At this point I decided I had better stop taking this drug. But even 2 days after I stopped taking it I began experiencing periods of dizziness, difficulty concentrating, and feeling disoriented. I also started to feel extremely cold at times and even began shaking. My mouth was extremely dry, with cracked lips. I began to notice some depression with crying spells also. It took me 2 weeks to recover from the side effects of this drug and I still don't feel 100% yet. This was absolutely the worst drug I have ever taken. The side effects were horrendous. At such a low dose I had no idea I would ever experience these type of side effects.

I have been taking Doxycycline for only 4 days, already I have had some pretty horrible side effects; vomitting, nausea, dizzyness, shortness of breath as well as being extemely moody and irratable. I wanted to know if these were common side effects among other people of the same age/health as I that have taken this drug. Im fit, in my early 20's and never before have had such a reaction to any drug prescribed to me.

Took Doxy in Feb 02 for inflammatory infection (50mg 3 times daily for 2 weeks). Suffered muscle spasms, palpitations, dizzyness, severe weight loss and tightness in throat after 2 week dose. However, similar but not so frequent symptoms over 2 years later still persist including general aches and pains, tinnitus, itching and many more strange and not-so-wonderful feelings. Have been told these symptoms are due to anxiety / stress but I'm not convinced. A colleague has recently experienced similar symptoms after being prescribed doxy for an infection. He still suffers the same symtoms some 4-months after stopping doxy. One to avoid if possible I feel.

I took Doxycylcline for acne that returned after my second treatment of Accutane. I have never been so sick, and I am a health conscious athletic person. After 5 pills I noticed frequent urination, anal leakage at night (yes, I am serious), tingle feeling in my hands, vomiting, nausea, dizziness and problems with my visions. I had wine with my dinner and that was a mistake. I stopped taking it immediately on the 5th day, and it has been over 8 days that I have not been taking it, and I still have these side effects. I am waiting for my doctor to call me back right now. If I knew about these side effects, I would never have taken this medicine!

nausea, vommiting when taken on empty stomach, headache & weird dizziness feeling. Also, very irritable, but thought it was due to PMS - however, I've read that others had irritability too, so I think it's from this EVIL medication, since it seemed worse than my normal monthly crabbiness. Also, I'm taking it to treat acne - & how ironic, it seems to be making my skin worse - breaking out in tiny whiteheads all over my chest, neck & shoulders - ugh! Don't know what I'm going to do now! Should I stop taking it, or will these little pimples subside?

I have been diagnosed as "adult acne" in the facial area.
I've been taking Doxycycline for 2 weeks and experienced swollen lips at first, but subsided. Low dosage for skin problems. Also bloating, yeast infection, occasional dizziness and flatulence. Have applied a 60+ sun bloc which helps but the sun is my enemy right now. Never having had skin problems in my entire life -- at the age of 80+ - this all seems a bit much. Is this a new drug?

Am on my second 3-week course of doxycycline for Lyme disease since the first go round didn't eradicate the infection. Have all the classic side effects mentioned, however the stomach ailments are GREATLY alleviated by taking a strong (70 billion parts per capsule) probiotic. Take it half way between the 2 doxycycline doses and although it isn't magic it does make a difference.
-- By bluereed | Reply | Send Private MailAlthough I have no appetite, I try to graze lightly on foods that appeal to me throughout the day and that seems to help with many of the horrific side effects.
Also, my MD suggested I take Aleve and NOT Ibuprofen for headaches since the Ibuprofen can cause a "headache" kickback (and causes stomach pain). Don't know if that's true, but the Aleve seems to help a little.
Worst side effects for me are utter exhaustion, dizziness, stomach pain, sore throat, and a head that hurts feels like it is filled with wet cotton. Also heart palpitations which may be part of the Lyme disease.
Hope some of this helps.
