i am amazed that doxycycline has given the SAME EXACT problems to other people. i never had side effects to any medication i ever took up until this point. I was on them for a week and on the 2 final nights I too took them right before sleeping and developed a case of esophigitis. I cant eat or sleep because it feels like i'm swallowing lumps that land in my stomach and burn. Even breathing ends up as burping that feels like its on fire. My throat feels swollen and eating solids is torture. Ive been so depressed over this, it makes me want to cry and not go to work because my head feels like i'm in a cloud. Past 24 hours i developed a fever and pain in the jaw/temple area but that might just be a flu going around. So i called the doctor who prescribed them to me for adult acne and says "you weren't supposed to take them before bed, sounds like you have esophagitis". Nice of him to tell me this prior to starting this medication. Im so worried these have caused permanent damage to my stomach that i'm going to suffer with forever. Have these symptoms gone away for anyone, and what helped you get through it if it has? also, how long? Maalox, Pepcid, and over the counter heartburn remedies dont seem to help. all i know is, doxycycline is the wrost drug ever and needs to be retired ASAP!

Day 2 of being on Doxycycline Hyclate. I woke up with pain behind my eyes and a strange "out of touch" feeling. I took my next pill for the day. No issues with it going down, but I have felt flu like symptoms most of the day. Some chills, possible fever (face and mouth feel hot but at work so can't check it), some aches especially in the legs, like mild cramps, and an overall sick feeling across my body. I do not feel myself today, however I felt normal if not better yesterday, the first day I started taking it. I contacted my doctor and informed them of how I felt and she told me it is only my second day taking it and to continue as normal. I will do as recommended, however, I hope these feelings dissipate soon. I want the cough to be gone but at what cost. If I feel like this tomorrow I might not go to work and maybe have a second opinion.

The first few times taking this drug I had extreme nausea even though I had tolerated most previous antibiotics and pills pretty well up to this point.
I thought it was a little odd, but that it would pass.
The nausea finally did pass, but for the past two weeks I have been taking it I've been doing almost nothing but sleeping, and having extreme spells of tiredness.
Gradually every day has just gotten worse and worse than the next while on these pills. I don't want to get out of bed and lately have looked at the clock to see that I've been in bed for twelve hours at a time.
Now, I'm also in very advanced college courses. I initially attributed my sudden inaccuracy and inability to focus on the fact that I was just nervous about the courses, the material, but each day my concentration got worse, and worse and worse. It feels like I have ADD or something, which I've never had.
I felt like I was going insane when I could not even get through a page of material without wanting to jump up and shake myself around (also because of the numbness I got in my legs and arms). Not like me at all.
I have been dizzy, weak, incredibly tired and cold all the time, and entirely unable to focus all since I've started taken these pills. Unlike many of the other people's symtoms posted here, I've experienced severe chills and cold/ numbness in my whole body rather than heat? Except when I go in the sun, which then feels like I'm burning up.
Today was the last straw when I couldn't even get up out of bed, drive normally I was so dizzy, could not normally read one page of material, and the sun felt like it was burning my eyes out.
And reading some of the even worse symptoms others have had, this drug is not worth all the pain and possible permanent damage just to kill a few of these pimples.

Constant headache, since I started taking it for a sinus/ear infection. But then I had the Flu on top of that so it could be a flu headache. Other than that, it's been pretty smooth.

Precribed Doxy for bronchitis and flu like symptons. Within hours of initial dose 2 x 100 mg caps, experienced nausea and vomitting, but worst of all was the pain in oesophagus. This felt like it had been scoured with coarse grade sandpaper and allowed me to swallow tepid water only. After three days stopped taking the Doxy. Nausea and vomitting have stopped but still unable to take solid foods due to pain in windpipe.
Am hoping this will subside now I am not taking the Doxy.
Horrendous stuff.

My sun has suffered from three years of age with stomach pain and discomfort uppon eating he is now 12 years old. We have seen many doctors all of whom are very vague. His blood work consistantly comes back with low amylase and lipase. Yet they dont see any need for further investigation. I have been told he has a sensitive stomach. As a mother I see more. I live with him and see him every day. He eats very little, (i think it still hurts) he says he's not in pain anymore. At nine he was still thr...

Instead of aborting the procedure, he did the Kenalog injection directly in to my subdural space. I had immediate side effects, starting with a dural puncture headache. That headache changed in to chronic daily headaches that are very severe. I developed burning stabbing leg and foot pain, . I have bladder dysfunction, sexual dysfunction, and numbness througho...

I have been on Doxycycline for about a year now, and have had side effects.
I have had hot flushes, abdominal pain, chest pain, extreme mood swings, anxiety, depression which lasted a few days at a time and have felt dizzy and exhausted alot (I had never gotten these symptoms before taking the anti-biotic). I didn't get any side-effects while starting doxy, but about 2 weeks after, they began. My symptoms are becoming worse, as well as waking up with a headache for the past 2 weeks everyday. My Dr says it's perfectly fine for me to continue, but the side effects are becoming too much.
Also, i take my doxy before bed, and not necessarily after eating, and they go down perfectly fine! I have no problems with it through the night. I take it in conjunction with my pill, and all is well.
After having a break from Doxy (I've had a 2 week break about twice in the year I have been on them), I have gotten a severe flu, which has had me in bed for about 4 weeks at a time.
But my acne has cleared immensely, everyone comments how clear my skin is now. In my opinion, it's worth the side-effects. My confidence has improved so much!
