i guess no one has fully recovered from the side effects of this drug.

i have lost all hopes because no one has recovered fully. NO ONE on this forum.

i still have this panic and anxiety attack at least once a day and ringing in the ears is constant now. not fully functional like how i used to be. physically.

I found this site 12 months after beginning Doxycycline for acne. A year ago I was the happiest person that I knew. I was a junior in high school and was very involved, liked sports, and had many friends. Me and my girlfriend were happy and to be honest, I had literally not felt happier.

A week ago I had come to the end of my rope. I literally decided to commit suicide. I finally reached out to God for help and I feel like he has saved me. About half an hour after praying for help from where I was I found this site. So, without further adieu, I am going to detail how horrific and absolutely from hell this drug is. ****PLEASE, I BEG YOU, IF YOU OR SOMEONE YOU KNOW HAS BEEN AFFECTED BY DEPRESSION, ANXIETY, OR ANY OTHER SIDE EFFECTS DUE TO THIS DRUG, PLEASE CALL THE FDA SIDE EFFECT HOTLINE. THIS DRUG IS FROM HELL***

I broke up with my girlfriend because I would sit at home and think for over 12 hours at a time that she hated me. As a result of this racing thoughts, when I saw her or went on a date, I would have nauseating anxiety for literally no reason... This anxiety continued for about a year until I had almost lost every friend I have ever had. It wasn't their fault, just that no one else knew how to respond to this sudden change in me.

Racing thoughts were terrible. I couldn't sit in a room without thinking thousands and thousands and thousands of negative thoughts from hell. I would think of how my family, and my friends, and my girlfriend all hated me. Now, after discontinuing this medication, i realize that it is all a lie.

The depression was horrific. I would literally have rather had a serious physical disease for the past year instead of feeling like this. I wouldn't go to parties, I would sit home and cry. Mind you, NOTHING happened to make me feel like this. Absolutely nothing. I thought about suicide about once a week (at least). I honestly didn't know what to do.

Mood swings were awful. I would change life goals and life core beliefs within minutes. Everyday I would become a different person at least 10 times throughout the day. I would go from nice, to sad, to motivated to start my own business, to thinking about signing my soul to Satan all in one day. These are just a few of the horrific thoughts. Dark thoughts, thoughts from hell.

I can report no physical side effects, but honestly I have been through so much that I can't stand it with this drug. I would like to thank my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for helping me realize that this drug can absolutely ruin lives. I think everything happens for a reason, but people, hear me. I write with tears in my eyes right now and I look back on all of the lost time and all of the friends and all of the opportunities that have literally flown passed me. Just know that you are not alone. Stop taking this drug! And start raising awareness!

I started taking Doxycycline about 11 days ago for cystic acne. 7 days into the medication I have red rosacea splotches ALL over my face. It's unsightly, burns, and peels constantly. I'd rather have the acne, thank you...!

I was prescribed this medication for an infection I have. 100mg 2 times a day. About 30 minutes after I took it I was violently ill. I was dizzy and slightly delusional. I got sick for about 45minutes. Thanks good I only had water and ginger ale in my stomach. I felt like I was on fire. And I could not stop the feeling of having an anxiety attack. I have stopped taking it and am going back to see my doctor. I think this drug is useless.

So glad I found this web page! I just finished a 10-day course of Doxycycline 100 mg. twice a day, prescribed by my oral surgeon after a tooth extraction. Around Day 5 or 6 I started getting heartburn that was not easy to get rid of. At the time I did not suspect the Doxy, because I was also taking pain medication, and thought that was the cause. It just occurred to me yesterday that the Doxy might be the problem. I looked on Drugs.com and read up on it, but nowhere in the listed side effects does it mention heartburn, or any of the mood disorders that other people here have experienced. Luckily I finished the pills earlier today, but I have had the heartburn non-stop ever since. So this time I Googled "Doxycycline heartburn", and I got plenty of results. So, it's not an isolated case. The instructions on my pill bottle were to "take it on an empty stomach", and to "not take any antacids, dairy products or iron within 2 hours of taking this drug". It makes me angry that this possibility of severe heartburn is not listed as a possible side effect of this drug. I'm glad I didn't get any mood disorder problems from it, I already take medication for anxiety/depression. Thanks for letting me vent! I'll be telling my pharmacist about this not-uncommon problem.

I have been through hell with this drug, well i'm sure it was this drug, I have had minor anxiety in the past, but the anxiety i had the day after taking this was off the scale, I couldn't sleep, eat, or function in my life at all. I started to become very depressed and go into despair. I even had suicidal thoughts which freaked me out and is not like me at all. I was even taken to A and E at hospital it was that bad. I finished on Sunday and seen a bit of improvement, I was not as anxious and irritable. Today it has came back a little, I seem to have some mental confusion and memory problems also. It has been a long dark road, and I entered some scary dark places that felt horrible. Im usually so upbeat and busy. It was so not like me. I took this medication for 11 days at 100mg twice a day. Like I said i finished on Sunday, I still feel very unreal (dreamworld) depressed at times, no appetite yet and struggling to relax.

How long will this take to pass? please help I feel im going crazy

I was on doxycycline for three weeks because the doctor believed I had Lyme disease due to the slight headache, mild fever, and aching joints that I was experiencing. I was fine for the first few days, but then I began to develop some unusual symptoms. The symptoms fluctuated day to day, but I was never free from one or more of these symptoms: severe headache, chills, night sweats, tingling in my arms, weakness in my legs, ear ache, numbness in my face (especially my eyes and lips), anxiety, depression, insomnia, pain in my eyes, and neck, and stiffness in my jaw. At the end of three weeks, I seemed to have more Lyme symptoms than before I began the medication. My Lyme test was negative, but with my continuing symptoms my doctor recommended that I take the medicine for ten more days, and retest for Lyme. The first day back on the medicine I was sicker than ever. I waited it out because the doctor insisted that it was the best thing to do. I finished the medicine, and the effects were less intense. My second Lyme test was negative. I am being tested for Fifth's disease (my son was ill with it just as I began to experience my swelling joints - a condition that can not be treated, uggh). I seem to get worse if I don't drink all day and night - a lot of water is needed, all the time. The effects also increase when I go to bed, recline on the couch, allow myself to become nervous about my condition, or over work myself through the day. I was at the pediatrician with my son yesterday, and mentioned my problem, wondering how long it could take to get the medicine out of my system. She told me it could be as long as a few months. It's been two weeks since I took my last pill.

I was prescribed Doxycycline Hyclate last week and the first night I took it, I had a fever of 100.4. It went down quickly but I had no idea it was from the anti biotic. I thought it was from my miscarriage. Then, I began to get HORRIBLE bloating, like very painful and constipation. I also began to noticed throughout this 6 day period, that anytime I took Doxycycline, THAT'S when I would have these symptoms. I have come to the conclusion that this medication is causes my fever, bloating, constipation and depression. I have also experienced chest pains 2 nights, night sweats and ringing i the ear.

I've been on Doryx for a few weeks now. My mood has changed a lot. I am a creative writer and I have not written anything new since I started the medication. I am taking it for acne and it works but it is affecting me mentally. I have no desire or new ideas to write. I've even gotten bad with my spelling and I used to be an Ace at that. I may just get off of it because my writing is my livelihood (fyi, i just second guessed the spelling of livelihood as I am typing this).

Stay away from this medication !!, I started a 7 day course of doxy last week for a sinus problem. The following morning from taking the first tablet i developed an unusual calf pain, this then resonated to my ankles and some other areas like my arms. I like other people have experienced the feeling of having my feet feel like they are on fire. Yesterday i went to see a consultant in my near by hospital in Glasgow and was told that my symptoms were a side effect of doxy. I have suspended the medication yesterday. its horrendous.

So wow, i didn't expect to find everyone else having the same problems as me. Im 18 years old and was prescribed doxycycline for a testicular infection i got from a nasty river i swam in, i digress. this drug does seem to be helping, ive been on it for almost two weeks now. HOWEVER, im sure i have insomnia, and like other posts here, i feel very paranoid lately.
i hope there aren't any severe mental lasting side effects
Contrary to other posts this medication has subsequently helped with my acne. However my clear face is not worth the hell ive been going through with this nausea and insomnia. luckily my prescription is almost up and i HOPE i can go back to sleeping normally.

Until yesterday, I took 14 days of a 4 week prescription of 100 mg twice a day doxycycline for a tick bite rash. I rarely take any medication. The first week I just had mild side affects. Late in the second week I started to notice that I was becoming increasing anxious for no apparent reason. Even after hard exercise the anxiety seemed to be persistent as if an impending panic attack. Yet, I had no external reason to explain the anxiety.

After two additional days the anxiety seemed to keep ramping up and I began to get very dizzy when I moved suddenly or bent down to pick up items from the floor. The pressure behind my eyes also feel like it was increasing. I was afraid my blood pressure was spiking but in actuality it was probably either cranial pressure or simply an fight or flight anxiety response. I also experience some pretty vivid dreams.

I finally searched online and found no official symptom of anxiety for doxycycline but found people complaining about it unofficially. I spoke with my pharmacist who also said she had no listing of anxiety as a known symptom for the drug. She suggested I stop taking it and see if my symptom subside.

It has been 24 hours since my last dose and the anxiety has reduced substantially but not completely. I feel like I have a hang over today but otherwise I do feel an immediate improvement. I am still a little dizzy but not like yesterday.

Like all drugs, you should be very cognizant of how the drug affects your body - even if a physician tells you otherwise because only you can really tell and everyone has different bio-chemistry which reacts in different ways to different drug compounds.

I just turned 18 years old and was prescribed Doxycycline Hyclate 100mg, BenzaClin (Benzoyl peroxide), and Differin 0.3%. I've been on benzaclin and differin for about 3 years now. About 2 months ago I was prescribed doxycycline for my acne. I specifically told my dermatologist that I wanted a higher dosage of acne medication since the minocycline 5mg wasn't strong enough for me; I had taken it 2 years prior to my visit. But when I would take doxycycline I'd feel a litte bit of nausea coming my way so I decided to drink some water with it. Shortly after I'd get something to eat. I'd feel better soon after. I've been on this medication for almost a month now and I'm not feeling any adverse side effects. My acne has somewhat cleared up but then i breakout again, around the same area. I'm hoping my acne will clear by the time I go for my check up in feb but if it doesn't, i want to be prescribed accutane instead. Also, stop the medication if you're having horrible side effects, obviously there's something wrong. It could also be an allergic reaction, I'm just fine but then again, I'm not allergic to anything and I also avoid a lot of sun exposure.

I'm 16 and I was prescribed Doryx (doxycycline hyclate) about a month ago to treat moderate acne. I've been taking it since then and I'm supposed to be on it until September, however, I'm not sure if I'm going to last that long if I keep taking it.

While I didn't experience any side effects for about the first week, after that, it turned terrible. I experienced insomnia, which included not being able to fall asleep, waking up about 5-10 times a night (often being unbearably hot and sweating intensely, even thought it was a cool 70 degrees F in our house.), and to make it worse, i was up for about half an hour each time i woke up. And to make it worse, I was always tired through the day, but I still couldn't sleep.

While sleeping I had very vivid dreams which is unusual for me. I also had pretty bad stomach pain, and terrible pain in my kidneys for a few days. It felt almost like a kidney stone.

I also am very rarely hungry and almost get sick when i eat. Since on this medication a month ago, I've lost about 10 pounds just because I can't eat.

I've had a difference in mood as well. Most of the time, I'm happy, but now, I have very noticeable mood swings and periods of depression.

And the medicine ISN'T EVEN HELPING with my acne.

Oh, and these are only SOME of the side effects I've had. So, right now, I'm not sure if i should quit the medicine, or if the medicine will put an end to me first.

I always had breakouts, but nothing too severe that a face wash and makeup couldn't handle. Then, about 2 months ago, it started to get really bad! I started breaking out along my jaw line, and neck. It slowly started to spread its way up my face. It was large, red, and very painful. My boyfriend notice that I wasn't my happy go lucky self anymore, due to the acne, and suggested I go to the Derm, his treat, since Im a waitress, with no insurance.
The Derm said I have a severe form of cystic acne, and prescribed me Doxycycline. I was so excited that I was gonna have my skin back, although not perfect, but better. I had formed what looked like bloodclots underneathe my skin, where Im guessing the cysts broken up. (pretty awful, right!)
First day I took it, no problem. I had picked it up after work, so its was later in the day, after of course, I ate. So, I figured the next morning, I would follow the directions to a "T" because I needed to have my skin back. BIG mistake!! DO NOT TAKE THIS ON AN EMPTY STOMACH! Wow!! What an awful feeling! I threw up for about 15 minutes. (not sure why they recommend you to do that anyway, your not supposed to take Tylenol on an empty stomach) But I felt much better, and continued my day.
Yesterday was my 5th day on the medicine, and I noticed that I was very "bitchy" ( my boyfriends exact words ) felt very irritated and moody. But, I can deal with it, its not that bad. Also, had a lump in my throat, but that went away in about 20 minutes. But, we went to the grocery store, and I noticed that my eyes were very dry, and would burn as if you were having a staring contest and would leave your eyes open without blinking. I also noticed that I felt a little dizzy, and my boyfriend said that I felt shaky. I have hypoglycemia, so I figured I was just hungry. But, Im pretty sure that its the medicine now, from those before me listed similar side effects.
Im hoping that I don't get other side effects like other people listed. That would make me stop taking it all together, and would send me marching back to the Derm, for another treatment.
I have noticed that in about a week, my cysts have reduced in size pretty good, and are healing pretty well. My bloodclots are all gone, and Im starting to feel like the beautiful woman I once was! It seems very promising, and I look forward to continuing my Doxycycline!

So for all 300 something of you, I am sorry to hear about your bad experiences with this drug, I am terribly sorry. Some of you however are just dumb! It makes you sensitive to the sun, do NOT go in a tanning bed and then Florida! I am on this medication for Lyme, and yes, I may feel a little queasy, but I will to whatever it takes to get rid of the side effects of that disease! It is not a deadly drug, there are thousands of people on this drug daily, and thousands have no side effects at all. If you are feeling any major side effects call your doctor right away, don't wait till the end of the dose! Thats just silly.

Wow, I thought I was going crazy. I've been so sick the last week but didn't think it would be this new medication. I'm taking 150 mg once a day for 15 days. I have three left of which are going in the garbage. I missed a family reunion today because I'm so tired I can't function. It's like someone gave me a sleeping pill. I've taken three pregnancy tests of which they were all negative thinking I was pregnant. The nausea is horrible. Just talking about food makes me vomit. I have stomach cramps, severe lower back pain, my heart feels like it's doing flip flops at night. My face feels very hot at times. My hands feel like raw nerve endings when put in cold water or wind blows over them. My arms tingle and hurt when exposed to the sun. I just want to lay in bed and not face the world. I've been dieting and lost 15 pounds prior to starting the medication. Boom, all that stopped. Still doing all the workouts and carefully eating but have gained 4 pounds back. Very disappointing. I am so glad I found this site. You won't find this information on the manufactures website.

I was given the medication to prevent a tooth infection. I tried taking it several times for it but every time I take it I get pain between my shoulder blades and it hurts to swallow. It is worse trying to swallow liquids. I am done. I don't know for sure if it's the med or if I am having a heart attack.

I just want to thank you all so much for posting your experiences to help others. I have a spider bite, and my arm is terribly swollen, but now I'm not going to risk this frightening medication, which I was prescribed. I'd rather risk the allergic response to the bug! Thank you all again for alerting the public. I pray that each and every one of you will feel better very soon. One thing that comes to mind is possibly talking to staff at a place like Whole Foods. Don't quote me on this, but I believe products like Milk Thistle are good for cleaning out poisons from medications.

Dear lovely people.

Thank you so much for all your postings. This site was literally my salvation. Nobody who knows me believed that I could be so ill for so very long. Family and friends say that I am a very strong person and not phased by anything, but believe me, even I could not overcome the side-effects of this deadly drug. It even resulted in me having hallucinations. It is interesting to note we are not alone in this are we?. You have to have been there to fully understand how truly horrific the side-effects are. It is interesting to note that compared to other drugs listed on this site as to positive side-effects of any drug (most drugs listed have either none or perhaps 1 -2 listings) all 353 of us!!! have been so desperate to know why we have been feeling so very very ill. We have therefore in desperation tapped into this website. We can't all be wrong. Some of you like me were or are in your darkest hour, but please, please hang in there. I took this poison for four weeks as an anti malarial medication for my holiday and it was only last Monday did I feel fully up to strength. I will do everything in my power to stop this medication ever being prescribed ever again. I have had every single one of the side-effects listed on this site. It may take some time, but you will get better and when stronger I hope like me you will try and do something positive about what has happened by actioning why this drug is never taken again by anyone by any one ever again/. Never would I want anyone to feel as ill as this. I promise it may take some time but YOU WILL come through this just like I have. I would welcome any feedback from fellow users as to what action they may also be taking as to stopping the prescribing of this drug.

Keep strong.

Kind regard to you all.

After reading all these posts. I stopped taking this awful medication, if you want to call it this Yesterday morning to be exact. Today I still feel awful. Something has to be done. The slight headaches and sick stomach are still with me and the outburst of the chills. Of course i am so tired I still can't function. And to think all my Doctors certainly know the side effects of such a drug. For 6 weeks I have been sick with the worst headaches ever and now I feel like things are crawling all over my body. I pray i will get my life back.Can't even explain how upset my Husband is with me, thinking all this time, i was complaining for nothing. Whatever. I just hope my eyes will get some relief. Who knows at this point. Well getting so very tired again. I will keep you all posted, for sure.

It seems that everyone is having similar symptoms. I have been on Doxy for about 14 days now and I'm feeling worse every day. I am on it because i had been bitten by a tick and contracted Lyme disease. I don't know much about the disease but it has me freaked out. I started taking the antibiotic 2 weeks after being bitten; losing my balance and almost falling to the ground. I also had a couple of dizzy spells after eating. I seemed to feel a little bit better the first week of taking it but started feeling the side effects. It started out with the occasional dizzy spell then came the exhaustion, anxiety, depression, lower back aches, soreness in the back of my eyes, stiff neck, headache in the back of my head, flu like shivers, racing heart, and complete body aches. I also found out the hard way not to go out into the sun while on Doxy. Felt like the tops of my hands were being pricked with a million needles and burning. I wish I could stop taking the drug and be done, but I am already scared about the outcome of the Lyme disease. I hope I can feel normal again soon.

WOW!!! I'm like a lost of words after reading all of this. I'm 31yrs old, Hispanic Femal and I was prescribed this Doxycycline Hyclate and Benzoyl Peroxide for my mild acne/breakout. I've been taking Benzoyl Peroxide for about 2wks now and TODAY 07-06-09 is my first time taking Doxycycline Hyclate; and OMG I felt so nauseated. I felt TERRIBLE! That feeling lasted for about 35min and I still dont feel right and its now 2hrs since I've taken it.

Someone posted that it cleared up their acne but the side affects are just SCARY! I really want to clear up my acne/breakouts so I'm going to try and take them for about a week or 2 or defending if I even get any side affects. I am afraid BUT I am also more aware in what to look out for since I've read everyone's comments. The minute I get a symptom other then this nauseated feeling I will STOP taking it! NO DOUBT!

The reason why I said I will try to take this for a week is because reading the paper work on it ... it said NOT to eat anything for about an hour or 2 when taking or if I ate wait about an hour or 2 then I can take it... so I took this on an empty stomach and I think that REALLY messed me up!

BUT I will keep you guys posted on my symptoms and I will let you all know if I even strived a week or 2.

If this doesnt work then I give up. I will let my acne run its course. However, I thought I notice a change with just using the Benzoyl Peroxide. However, It did dry my face some after 2wks but I have also continued to use Noxzema at least once a day to give me back that moisture so between the 2 and NOT picking it might work.

I really want to clear my acne but I know I DO NOT want to take ANY medication forever in order to be cleared of acne.

If that's the case I rather just have the acne. I do want to let you know that the Noxema has helped. I wash my face with that 3 times a day ... I put it on when my face is dry NOT WET and I massage it in my face for a few minutes sometimes even leaving it on my face til I don't see it anymore and then rinse it off. So I would recommend it to those who have mild acne. For me, I still get acne here and there but I just didn't think I was completely cleared of acne.

Thanks for all your postings they were really helpful and informative!
BUT I will follow up with this site and keep you posted.

I started taking doxycycline hyclate 100mg twice daily for 10 days for a respiratory infection. After about 7 days I started noticing tingling in my hands and feet and feeling like I was being misted with water on my arms. The tingling became worse and is now very painful in my hands but more so in my toes. It is especially worse at night when your trying to go to sleep.
It feels like the nerves in my hands and feet are raw and going crazy. Nothing relieves the pain. I took my last pill this morning and will never take this medication again.

Started Doxy 4 days ago. Supposed to have been taking 100mg twice a day, did it first couple days then forgot. Started back on it today. Almost immediately after taking the dose I noticed my face was itchy. I have tons of tiny bumps all over my right cheek up into my eye area and down the jaw area as well. Other than this I feel bloated as hell, I don't know if it's related or not. The rest of my skin feels itchy on and off but I don't notice any bumps anywhere other than the right side of my face (so weird). Any thoughts on why I might be having this reaction??

I was prescribed doxycycline hyclate by mt dentist for gum disease. I have been taking it since 3/23/2009. I stopped taking it two days ago. I have found increasing joint pain, especially in the thumbs. It has been getting worse. Also muscle aches from routine yard work, nothing strenuous. Itching all over the hands, arms, legs and back. I had been advised by the pharmacy to watch out for sun while taking it. Since it is summer time, there isn't too much one can do to completely stay out of the sun.

I intend to continue to suspend taking the medication and purge it from my body. This is the second time in the last several years that I was not properly advised of the various side effects.

I was prescribed this medication for dental disease and to take it for a minimum of 90 days. Since 3/23/2009 the gums have stopped bleeding. I just hope my system can purge itself of this RX.

I am so glad I found this posting! Hi everyone my names Vanessa..I am 20 years old and was prescribed doxycycline for mild adult acne in Jan..5 months ago...and never knew how much the side effects change someones lives. Experienced: insomnia, nightmares, hot/cold spells, difficulty breathing, paranoid, swollen face and tongue, crying spells, severe mood swings, inability to concentrate, weakness, fatigue, suicidal, shakiness, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, irritability, feeling outside of my body.....it wasn't until I started to stop drinking coffee and drinking loads of water and exercising..that I realized it was the doxycycline side effects. I would wake up have a good breakfast....and water....than take the pill and start to get blurred vision...shaky..feel depressed. and confused...than I would start drinking more water and trying to sweat (knowing that water flushes toxins out of your body and sweating) and by 2 ish? the side effects subsided...and I could see clear. Today my first day not taken the pill...and from what I read it takes a few weeks to get it completely out of your system. But I get a kick out of doctors who prescribe all of these medications to people thinking it cures things..not realizing that it really can disrupts someones lives who's sensitive to medication.

I want to know if anyone has experienced severe joint pain while on Doxy. I was prescribed this med on a Monday. I (like an idiot) doubled up on my first dose Monday evening because I know you can do that with other antibiotics to jump start the process. What can I say? I don't like being sick. Well....Tuesday morning, I took my 2nd dose and went to work. Very soon after taking the second dose, I broke out into a very itchy rash all over my back that soon spread to other parts of my body. I called my doctor and was immediately taken off the Doxy and prescribed Augmentin. Later that night, I began aching all over. I woke up in severe pain throughout all of my joints, and was in a terrible mood.....obviously. As the day progressed, the pain continued, but seemed to be moving randomly about my joints. My ankles would hurt for a while, then my arms, the my shoulders, etc. That night, I took a Benadryl (still itching from the rash a little), some ibuprofen, and went to bed. I woke up feeling a lot better. A lot less pain in most of my joints. It was a good day. However, today, Friday, I am still in some pretty bad pain in my hands. Anyone else have a similar experience??????

I was taking doxycycline for a lesion on my face. I started to have tingling of my feet and fingers but did not associate it with the medication. I only used the doxycycline for two weeks. The tingling in my feet lasted for almost 5 weeks.

Several months later I went on Doxycycline because I thought I had lyme disease. After being on the Doxy for one week I started up with burning sensations of my hands and feet. Puffy, red hands...burning on different parts of my body. My Md said it was anxiety! An immunologist said it was peripheral nueropothy from drinking too much!!! I knew both diagnosis were bogis....then I started to research doxy and came upon this site...thank God. I finished the month of the Doxy. I have been off the med now for two months and the symptoms are finally starting to subside.
I can remember waking up one night and my entire chest felt like it was on fire. Wearing shoes was so painful that I wore slippers to work...I was a burning tingling mess and I am convinced it was the doxycyline.

My son took it a while ago and has since this day major problems with his stomach and blood in his stool. While in college, he did not think about it being the medication. 2 months ago I told him to stop taking
Doxycycline, but his symptoms are still there. I guess, he already
destroyed some organ in his body with this dangerous pill. How can a company bring a pill on the market, with so many people having
problems with it and even getting depressed.
Unbelievable ! I am so glad I found this forum, this has to stop!
Does anybody has any experience how long the pain will stay after not taking Doxycycline????? We checked his blood and some of the results are not ok - a result of taking this dangerous pill. And the company makes a fortune out of it! Do not care about the health of young adults!

Hello, my son was on Doxycycline to treat his acne. What a horrible
medication. It damages everything in a teenager. I do not understand,
that a doctor is allowed to just give it away and do not even make further
test later again, at least some bloodwork!
My son has major problems with his stomach, blood in his stool and
headaches . He was checked for plenty of other things, until I found this
website. Thank you !!! Somebody needs to stop this company by making a profit from these horrible pills. This cannot continue this way!
Does anybody know, when the pain stops? He is not on this pill anymore since 2 months and his symptoms are still there. I will contact the company as well in this matter, but they may not even know.

They feel like they are on fire also. I had her stop the meds immediately and am waiting for the dermatologist to call back. If anyone had these symptoms how long does it take for them to go away?? email me: ******

I was prescribed Doxy 100mg twice daily for 14d for a Mycoplasma pneumonia. Day 6 I started to get a bit dizzy and some changes in my vision, sort of having a hard time to focus but I just though it was symptoms of fatigue or just being hypochonric. From day 8 I started to get really depressed and felt that I was going to die and that everyone was leaving me. On day 10 I also started to get anxiety attacks and had extreme difficulties to concentrate on anything. By this time I also got tremor, weakness and tingling in my arms and severe neck pain. Throughout this time I was aware of the risk for benign intracranial hypertension, but I didn't get any headache or nausea until d 16, i.e. 2 days after I stopped the medication. I never had fever. I then dropped 6 pounds in a week and had a hard time eating. It is now 6 weeks since I stopped taking the medication. My pneumonia is totally gone. The depression/anxiety is almost gone although some social withdrawal and lack of initiative still remains. It's still a bit up and down but much better. My neck pain is still there but is also getting better and I only have minor tremor in my arms. The visual changes still persist but every now and then I feel like my old self again for a few hours/day. The whole episode have been, and still are, the worst experience of my life. I keep my fingers crossed that it will all go away over the next few weeks.

I was recently prescribed Doxy for Lyme disease. From the time I took my first dose until now, 3 days later, I have had horrible cramping. Similar to menstrual cramps, but worse. I also have a constant headache, though I'm not sure if the headache is caused my the meds or the Lyme disease itself. I have found I absolutely can NOT take this medication on an empty stomach. I drink the recommended amount of water and eat a few crackers when I take it. Seems to take the edge off a bit. I currently take a prescription medication for GERD, but I have been having the worst heartburn ever. Not so sure if I will be able to deal with 18 more days on this medication. I will probably call my doctor first thing Monday morning to see what my options are.

I am so glad I read about Doxycycline Hyclate first before taking it. My first visit with a Dermatologist and this is the medication she prescribed for my acne problem. After reading into it, it doesn't sound worth taking at all. It sounds like a killer pill! I am going to stick to my Benzoyl Peroxide.

I am so glad I found this site...have been on doxycycline for about a week and spent about 30 minutes in the sun...oops! my toes and knuckles on my hands feel like they are on fire constantly. They are red and swollen. They burn just sitting here! Is there anything that can be done to help? I quit taking the medication. I was on it for acne treatment, but decided I will live with it rather than deal with the pain of sunburned feet and hands!

Hello All,

I started taking the antibiotic and also had a "lump in the throat feeling" about 5 days after taking it. Like some other posters, the feeling started in the middle of the night and has persisted since. I think it may be GERD. Tomatoes and citrus certainly make it worse! I am going to try a diet of mild foods until the coarse is over.

I'm 41 and approximately 115 lbs. I've been taking Doxycycline Hyclate (100mg) for only 3 days now and so far I'm still feeling my normal self. I have 4 more days to take the medicine before completing my dosage and I hope to continue to feel the same way. I must say that when I take it, in the morning and early evening, I drink lots of water with it and I eat a complete meal, which is what I do with any prescribed medication that I may have to take unless otherwise specified. I don't know if this is why I'm not feeling any side effects, but so far it seems to be working for me.

Known Side Effects of Doxycycline: (source: drugs.com)

•severe headache, dizziness, blurred vision;
•fever, chills, body aches, flu symptoms;
•severe blistering, peeling, and red skin rash;
•urinating less than usual or not at all;
•pale or yellowed skin, dark colored urine, fever, confusion or weakness;
•severe pain in your upper stomach spreading to your back, nausea and vomiting, fast heart rate;
•loss of appetite, jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes); or
•easy bruising or bleeding, unusual weakness.

Less serious side effects may include:
•swollen tongue, trouble swallowing;
•mild nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, or stomach upset;
•white patches or sores inside your mouth or on your lips;
•sores or swelling in your rectal or genital area; or
•vaginal itching or discharge.

Comparative Research Results:
SOURCE: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/3684731 -- Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, University of Texas Medical Branch, Galveston 77550

“Results from both monitoring methods consistently indicated at least a 3-fold higher frequency of nausea or vomiting with doxycycline relative to the other antibiotics. Complaints of skin rash also were at least 4 times more frequent with doxycycline, depending on the particular sample.”

More: ******

There are all sorts of verified reported side effects, most of which were on the packing slip that came with my prescription. However, not all side effects are listed on the insert. I’ve come across depression and anxiety listed as side effects on other drug profiles for Doxycycline, so if they are among the symptoms you're experiencing, they very well may be due to the drug. My experience has served as a greaet reminder to research any pharmaceutical I put in my body so that I may make informed decisions.

Like many of you, apart from my current breakout from Doxy, I too experienced stomach upset, and, to a lesser degree, cranial pressure.

Be well. Cheers.

I thought i was going nuts in a matter of days. i figured i was just stressed out from work and how my lifestyles changed throughout this new year, but i'm only 18 life shouldn't be this way. I Started taking Doxy on March 4th for my acne, and for the first week i was fine, no side affects except for the feeling like there was something in my throat. but then as I continued into the second week, i would wake up fatigued and dehydrated; which stayed with me throughout the day. I started getting neck aches and in the lower back, all on top of a migraine that would come and go. All day i'd feel dizzy, fatigued, tired, disoriented, and thoughts that i'll never be healthy and i'd always feel this way would constantly go through my mind. I even went to my family physician because I thought had a pinched nerve in my neck which was giving me all this pain in my neck and the headaches. my doctor confirmed that i didn't have a pinched nerve so i continued to tell myself that im alright.... right? no news is good news.....right? It wasn't until today(march 17th) that i considered doxycycline hyclate to be a possible culprit. I realized something was very wrong when i couldn't even tell my dad what i was experiencing w/o getting emotional... for NO REASON!!!!! my dad looked up this "Doxy" and we stumbled across this helpful site filled with blogs about people taking the exact same medication with the exact same side affects. As much as i'd love to have a clear face, it's not worth messing up your mind. i took my morning dose today, but will not continue to take anymore of this "Doxycycling Hyclate" hopefully, with time, my mindset will return back to it's normal functioning. just THINK POSITIVE!!!!!!!

I'm so glad I found this site. I was prescribed doxy for a rash I got in the Dominican that they thought lead to some sort of infection. The first couple days were fine but one night I took the medication before bed and was up all night with the worst chest pains. I have been nervous ever since that when ever I take the pills I'm going to get the same reaction. I have had chest pains the past couple days and I've been really careful with what I take them with and have been making sure I drink at least two bottles of water with each pill. But today I feel so weak. The last week on the medication I've been so tired I want to take naps when I get home from work which is unusual for me. Today my head feels heavy and my leg feels like it's about to twitch but it doesn't. I've felt some tingling in my left leg and my left arm. I thought this was from whatever infection I had since the rash was on my left ankle, but I think it's from the doxy instead. I've also been feeling a dull pain in my thigh every once in a while. I normally have some anxiety but a couple days after I started the doxy I put myself into a panic and spent the entire day at work researching tropical diseases on the internet because I thought I had one from the rash. I've also had some shortness of breath. I have asthma but it feels nothing like that. Also the doxy made my birth control stop working and I started my period. I thought I just had bad cramps but I'm starting to think they were more stomach aches from the doxy. I've had diarrhea also. And I feel so light headed that I'm going to pass out but I don't. I'm definitely calling my doctor today to get a different antibiotic. Thanks everyone for your posts!

I'm VERY glad I found this too! I started taking it one week ago today. Took one dose that day, in the evening. Then I took 2 doses the next day, Sunday. One in the morning and one in the evening. I woke up the following morning, Monday, at about 5 am with horrible, horrible pain in my upper stomach/esophagus area. This lasted the entire day. There was terrible pain that flared up every couple minutes or so. I could hardly breathe and sometimes cried or yelled out because of the sheer pain. The pain has lessened considerably since Monday, however, it is now Saturday, and it still hurts every few minutes and hurts to eat/drink. I have never had anything like this happen to me IN MY LIFE, and it suddenly does a day after I begin taking this medication? Sorry, that's more than a coincidence. I called the office that gave it to me, was referred to a nurse, and she said that that was, "Not a normal reaction" and to "take it with a big meal." I'm so scared. I don't have insurance, and I'm beginning to fear that my stomach/esophagus has been severely damaged by the doxycycline. After reading this article (******), which I admittedly do not fully understand because I am not a physician, I am even more afraid because the doctor who wrote it said he hospitalized one of his two patients who experienced these symptoms. If anyone has any advice, I'd be so grateful.
