I have been on Doxycycline for two weeks for Lyme disease. I stopped three days ago. While on it I felt very depressed and moody, as well as tired and nauseous. Last night I woke up with the sensation that my whole body was on fire, my back especially. My face itches as well and I am no longer even on the drug.

I have been taking 100mg twice a day. The instructions say that it works best on an empty stomach so I have been trying to just take it with water.
I take the morning dose at 5:00 am and get very nauseous about 30 minutes later. The feeling usually lasts about an hour. I have tried eating a banana with my morning dose but it didnt really help. If anything it was worse. Tomorrow I am going to try a full breakfast before I take it even though it says that taking it with food makes it less effective.
I have absolutely no issues with my evening dose.

On the second dose of the Doxycline 100 mg po BID x7 days presription, I felt nauseous and vomited. I now have a headache, feel somewhat nauseous, have and "ache" in my abdomen, feel slightly dizzy/fuzzy and have a dull headache. The medicine was prescribed as a prophylactic antibiotic in preparation for a gynecological/preobstretrical procedure called a hysterosalpingogram.
I have no plans to continue w/this medicine as I am intolerant of these side effects. It feels like putting poison into my body.
Hope to feel "normal"/well soon,
Eliza

I was prescribed doxycycline for possible lyme disease as a precautionary measure after a tick bite followed by a rash and fever. I took only two doses, and since, have been so completely nauseous, it's difficult to function. I've had terrible acid reflux and get the shakes and horrible stomach pain if I don't eat immediately when I feel hungry. My stomach aches constantly and I haven't had a bowel movement for a week. It has been 5 days since I took the last dose.

On an empty stomach, it made me very nauseous but only lasted about a half-hour. It's great for rosacea!

I have been prescribed Doxycycline 100mg twice daily for suspected Lyme disease. I have never experienced such strong side effects from taking an antibiotic before! The morning dose is the worst by far for me. It makes me feel incredibly nauseous and it makes me feel hot with stomach pains. I feel like being sick all the time for about 3-4 hours after taking it - I have tried lots of water and food but I still feel like crap! After about 4 hours I start to feel a little better then I feel like eating lots and lots!!! My body just seems to be swinging from feeling like I am dying to being very hungry hours later... I take the last pill about 10pm and stay downstairs for about a hour before I go to bed - strangely enough though I have never felt ill like I do in the morning and go to sleep ok. All very weird and I cant wait until I have finished taking this drug (14 day course and I am half way through)

I started taking Doxycycline five days ago for adult acne (I'm 30 and experiencing hormonal side effects from coming off DepoProvera after one year). I was prescribed 100 mg twice daily. My evening pill is okay, I take it right before bed. But when I take the pill in the morning, I get absolutely nauseous for about thirty minutes after and it feels as though I swallowed a pill ten times its actual size and it's still stuck in my throat. I haven't thrown up yet, but I've been up to that point for thirty minutes at a time. I'm weighing the benefits and side effects in considering whether or not to continue taking it. I haven't had the nauseau every time I've taken the pill, so I'm trying to drink water and eat to see if that helps. I'm thinking these side effects may subside over time.
Everyone's suggestions were really helpful to me so I wanted to post mine in hopes they will help someone else.

I started taking doxycycline 3 days ago, 100 mg. 2x/day for Lyme disease. I seem to be sleeping an awful lot, but the chief side effect is the nausea. This morning I vomited about 35 minutes after taking the pool. I'd eaten a little breakfast, but still felt incredibly nauseous. I just ate a large dinner and took the pill immediately after. I hope to keep it down.

I take doxycycline as an anti-acne medication. I've been on it for two years now, with an increase in dosage from 50 mg 2 x a day to 100 mg 2 x a day.
If I take it without food, I feel incredibly nauseous, so I'm careful to take it always immediately after meals. My prescription says do not take within 2 hours of eating dairy products, but sometimes I can't avoid that, since I have to take it with meals... I am also a lot more prone to sunburn since I started taking this, including one really horrible sunburn I got in FEBRUARY last year! ugh!
Does anyone know if there is a limit on the number of years one should take this medication for? Having been taking it for two years now, I began wondering if there could be negative consequences to the drug being in my system for such a long time without break. I am going to ask my doctor the next time I go in for a visit, but wanted to try to find out on the 'net first.

I take Doxycycline off and on for mild acne. I noticed that I definitely had to eat a meal before I took a pill, and even then it always made me a bit nauseous. Last night I took one around midnight and went to bed. I woke up at quarter to 5 with chest pain. I got up and tried to eat something but that was painful too. I've been trying to drink water all day but it appears to have no effect. It's now 12 hours later and I still have chest pain, and I feel like vomiting. I will never take this again!

I have taken Doxy several times now and usually end up discontinuing use because of strange side effects. Once because of intense burning of my skin (lasted several days). Another time because of disorientation and headache. Now I am taking it for a sinus infection. Giving it one last shot. I have only taken two doses, one last night and one this morning; and I am already extremely nauseous and lightheaded. My doctor told me if I dont finish this, my infection may turn into pnuemonia. I guess i will suffer through it.

I took one capsule of this medication at 2:00pm on 12/12/07 and about twenty minutes after taking this medication I began to feel nauseous, than I went and ate something about one hour later just a piece of toast. About ten minutes of eating I began to throw up and started having a headache, so I just kept going not really thinking about it, because the side effect do say headache may occur so I continue my day, about 1 hour and 30 minutes after regurgitating my head was hurting so severely that my eyes was watering and pulse could be heard through my ears, like a drum beating. I then became dizzy and things seemed to get blurred so I laid down and about 10 minutes in laying down my mouth began to fill with thick mucus almost like cotton in my mouth, began to be extremely thirsty so I got up and got water, to throw it back up. I then began to feel my jaw tightening up feeling like I was getting lock jaw. I then called my doctor office and talked to a triage nurse who then called a doctor and called me back and told me not to take any more of the medication and to take 50mg of Beneadryl because of a allergic reaction to the medication, but I am also allergic to PCN and ASA so she said it is rare for people to have an allergic reaction to this medication. Now my symptoms was not over that night I could not sleep, I also had bad dreams, severe night sweats, and nauseous that morning. I started having lower abdominal cramps, and still having problems sleeping, and sometimes I feel like crying and for no reason. Today is 12/20/07 and I still am having severe abdominal cramps, still nauseous in the mornings, no headaches or cotton mouth but the stomach cramps have not yet left and I only took one capsule, today makes a week, tomorrow is my doctor apt. hopefully I can get something to help me out but this is my story about this mess up drug.
