I took Doxy last summer for cystic acne. It worked fine and I didn't have any problems, and my skin cleared up nicely. I had some left over (bad, bad, I know but it hasn't yet expired!) so I started taking it again about 4 days ago. I noticed, almost immediately, severe tingling and burning in my fingers and hands and up into my arms when I am out in the sun and for hours afterwards. Also water (like washing my hands) makes the tingly feeling much worse. Weird, right? My two index fingers are bright red and any touch burns.

It's weird because last summer when I was on it I was out in the sun all the time with no problems at all.

Had used it in the past without a problem. Then developed rash on abdomen, face, and scalp with single dose. Didn't make connection. Rash went away in a day or so. Used Doxy again three weeks later. Again, had severe rash plus some chest congestion with one dose.

I took 300mg of doxycycline a day for three weeks because I had Lyme Disease. It made my stomach upset but if I found if I ate a few saltine crackers with the pills it took care of the nausea. I also noticed that I became very anxious at times while on the medication. I have been off of the antibiotics now for six days and I still have a painful swollen rash on my hands. I work outside and was exposed to the sun while on Doxy and got the standard sun rash we all know about. What I don't understand is why it is getting worse now, even though I am off the antibiotics. It is so bad that I have been lathering my hands in neospirin and wrapping them with gauze to try and heal them faster, but it doesn't seem to be working.

During the course I had the feeling my heart was pumping more weakly, especially at night. A few days after I finished the course the skin on the palms of my hands went dry and tight, then a severe ecsema-type rash erupted within 24 hours and grew rapidly worse. I applied hydrocortisone and antihistamine creams and that seemed to help. I also noticed a milder version on my feet - like the little red spots of a mild nettle-rash. A week later there are little brownish 'scars' or lumps all over my palms and the skin still goes dry sometimes. The rash erupted while I was handling rough stones in the garden, so the stones and the sun may have played a role. I hope this is helpful to people. I have been worried it may have been a heart problem or even syphilis - which also produces a rash on the hands and feet (!!!)

I'm a 23 year-old college student from Michigan. I started taking doxycycline on 3/3/07 and was instructed to take it for about 2 weeks. I started taking it because i was experiencing a skin rash on my chin, and was told that it was due to a bacterial/fungal infection. i stopped taking it on saturday 3/17/07.

When i first started taking the medication there weren't any inital side effects. I then found that i was breaking out it tiny little red hives, and had red patches of skin on my stomach, neck and gentials. at first i thought it was just a food allergy, and then i started to get really tired and naseauted. then i noticed that the gland on the right side of my throat was constantly swollen. during the two weeks i was taking the medication, i lost about 5 pounds. i found myself weak, tired and with no energy. i had no appetite, had blurred vision (i have 20/20 vision so i though that was weird) and i was in a constant state of anxiety. My stress and anxiety got so bad that i seriously thought i was going to die.

i freaked out so bad that i thought i might even have HIV (because the side effects for doxycycline are similar to the symptoms of HIV: fatigue, rapid weight loss, diarreah, swollen glands, muscle soreness, rash etc. ) so i went and got tested for STDs and HIV. The doctors at the clinic said that everything seemed normal, and while i'm still awaiting the results from the tests, i found that all of my symptoms are in fact due to the antibiotic.

Since i stopped taking the antibiotic i've been suffering from sharp pains in my abdomen. I have very bad cramps and foul smelling gas/stool. I get dizzy very easily and find myself in so much discomfort that it's difficult to concentrate or do much of anything.

I was wondering if anyone knew how long this side effects tend to last, or how long it takes for the body to go back to normal? because this really sucks. I was self conscious about the rash i had, but the rash seemed a lot better than the side effects from the antibiotics.

anyone else feel this way?

Shortly after starting a round of this med I began to get an itchy rash on my neck, my arms, my upper legs and under my breasts. I only have a few days left so I'm going to try to just deal with it and hope it goes away when I'm done taking the pills.

I got bitten by a tick about a month ago. A week later I was having severe muscle pain and pin prick sensations all over.
Last Friday ( about three weeks after the bite) I got a rash on my breast. It cleared up with Triple ointment in three days but made me worry about Lyme disease. I went to the emergency room Sunday. The doctor assured me he didn't think I had Lyme but I did have systoms. He gave me doxycycline for Lyme.(even though there was no tests to confirm that I had it). Today is Wednesday and an hour after I took the pill this morning I got very dizzy, almost passed out and began vomiting. Tonight the nausea is gone but I still feel weird i.e. lightheaded/dizzy. I spent the morning in the same emergency room to be told it couldn't be a reaction to the doxycycline. They gave me an antihistamine and pills for vertigo. Yeah RIGHT!!! They didn't even try to find out what was making me dizzy. Sorry, no meds for me to be used as a "bandaid".
