All I have to say is all of the above. I took Effexor before and it works great and I have no side effects AFTER getting established on it, as long as I don't forget to take it. But I only have seasonal depression so I started going off it and two days ago was my last day and I can't even work because my vertigo is so bad. I'm miserable! Hope this stops soon cause I need to make money, not sit at home and sleep. That doesn't help depression much now does it? lol! Actually it's not so funny.

I felt that the Effexor did what it was supposed to while I took it. It helped my anxiety and slight depression, and I felt very happy the three years I took it. I did not have weight gain or any other side effects, other than crazy, vivid dreams that actually were funny to me. However, withdrawing from this drug was the worst I have ever experienced. I spread it out over 6 months, and it was still horrible. I was nauseated, disoriented, weak, had constant vertigo, felt electrical shocks in my head. I missed a week of work thinking that I was seriously ill, and then realized it was the Effexor, but it took another month until I felt like it was completely out of my system. I am back to feeling like my anxious and slightly depressed self again, but no way am I going back on Effexor knowing what the withdrawal symptoms are. I will find a way to feel better through diet modifications and lifestyle changes instead.

I went to my Doctor with a few complaints about some aches and pains about a year ago. He decided I was depressed and put my on Effexor 75mg.
At first I had no side effects from the drug. Then I forgot to take 2 doses. I was outside picking up leaves when I went into this terrible time of vertigo. I couldnt walk my whole world was spinning. I immediately thought it was because of missing the doses. The vertigo lasted 3 days. My Doctor told me it was no way caused by The Pill and that It was most likey an inner ear problem. I decided to cut the pill in half on my own. Even with that little of a dose, if I forget to take it I immediatley start to feel side effects such as a very heavy feeling in the top of my head. vertigo, confusion, low concentration, fuzzy eye sight and with any noses, or even if my husband starts to talk I get a jolt like feeling in my head. On an everyday basis while taking the small doses I have to be carefull not to go down to a laying position, or change my position to fast because I will have vertigo. Not to mention my libido is gone. No one told me of all these side effects, I wouldnt of ever started it!!
Today would have been day 3 of cutting my half of a pill in half but when I woke up I was having all of the side effects I mentioned above so I had to take the whole half which is only 37.5 mg!!
How Do I get off this nasty pill??

was put on effexor-XR for post natal depression five days ago. As of tomorrow I am going to stop taking them as I have never experienced anything like it. I have a four month old daughter who I am to scared to hold as I am having severe vertigo and I am also having black outs. Ive done things that i have no recollection of doing, one of them included me remembering walking out of a shopping centre and the next thing i knew i was in my car. I had crossed two busy roads in the mean time and im not even sure if i looked to see if any cars were coming. I also sleep alot and i have no emotinal feelings what so ever. Im not to be left alone with my daughter in case something happens as i also suffer form tremors in the hands Would love to hear from anyone who has had similar side effects.

Hi. I was put on Efexor by my Doctor for DIZZINESS AND VERTIGO, not depression. I would be interested to hear from anyone else prescribed this for the same reason. I had non-stop dizziness and could do anything and this is the only drug that seemed to work. However I have all the worst side effects and would love to come off it.

The more posts I read, the more I'm beginning to wonder if Effexor is causing some of my physical problems. I have DEFINITELY had the weight gain (40+lbs), low libido, horrible night sweats, very dry scalp. The vertigo went away as well as the extreme fatigue but I still sleep a lot. I remember when I first started it, however, that I almost got into a car accident because I dozed off while I was driving; when I woke up I was going 80 and was in the other lane (thank God no one else was on the road near me). I do feel somewhat better but this is a drug to use with caution in my opinion. I will be discussing weaning off of it with my dr. sooner than later.
