Hello, I don't that the medication does not work. Yes, there may be like a few side effects if you are over dosing, like heart palpitations. But the tiredness and fatigue is due to incorrect dosage. The medication levels has to be adjusted each time and can not constant. It is something we can not control. Some months, you need lower doses and others you need to increase the dose. This is why we need to constantly visit a good endrocologist. This can be beaten until we get to the right dose. It's a killer, I know, but all we have is patience and we need to focus on how to start feeling better. So I advise everyone to hang in there. I know it' easier said than done but nobody knows your body better than you. If you think that the meds are not working then go back to your doctor, and if he does not listen then seek a second opinion until you get to the correct dose for you. There will always be a fluctuation in the dosage and only you will know coupled with a blood test. Good luck to us all with the lazy thyroid :)

I am 43 and have been taking eltroxin for a couple of years now and apart from feeling the cold more than anyone else and the odd fatigue I have felt fine. I recently hurt my back and asked for a bone density scan. The results were that I had the beginning of osteoporosis After a little research I found that Eltroxin can effect bone density, so now am looking for a natural substance to treat my hashimotos disease.

I use eltroxin 0.1mg every day for two years now and could not understand why I am always tired although I had a good night's sleep. I also became aware that I am very tempered, depressed and can do impulsive things. like buying a bike as example. Recently, almost a month ago I had to visit my GP for a common flu. I also asked him to run a blood test on my thyroid hormones. It became apparent that I have been taking 0.05mg less than what I should have.
Could all my negative experience be because of this? I only started to take the higher doses since today, I am hoping on a better outcome.
My e-mail address is Christo.***

My wife taking Eltroxin 50 mg at every morning with empty stomach since two month back, as her TSH found higher (7.5 unit instead of 0.5 to 5.5). Recently it has been observed that, she is loosing hair too much. I just want to know, whether this increased rate of hare fall is the side effect of Eltroxin or the effect of high TSH? If the reason is first one then how the preventive step is to be taken? And if it is due to later, then why the medicine not doing the work properly? Please suggest the way to proceed.

My experience with Eltroxin has been a pleasant one. I'm only 17, 18 in a month, and have always been overweight and have also never menstruated. I'm not the type of person who loves sweets and ice-cream and junk food like McDonald's therefore I never understood why I'm overweight. I decided to consult a doctor about the situation and she had me have blood tests taken. When the results came she told me I had an "inactive thyroid" which could also have resulted in my menstrual problem. I started taking the tablet every morning for 6 months and slowly but surely I felt better, healthier, happier and I was losing at least a kilo a month. When I stopped taking them I had recent mood swings, I was irritated and frustrated for no apparent reason and started gaining weight. Now I'm back on them and I feel great again. I've had no negative side effects as far as I'm concerned and I'm happy. I still have a problem with my menstruation given that it hasn't started yet and I'm nearly 18 but me and my doctor are working on it. Eltroxin changed my life.
