Flagyl side effects

let me just say i have never been the same since taking this drug almost 5 years ago! don't take it!

I have been prescribed a 20 day course of flagyI. I was prescribed this med for a uterine staph infection caused by an iud...as you can imagine I was ready for any antibiotic that would bring relief. I tried a few antib's (Cipro, Macrobid, Doxycyline) before flagyl while the drs waited for the culture to return from the lab...flagyl brought immediate ( 24 hours) help with the staph but causes metal mouth, a woozy feeling and a strange aching in my feet. In my situation the side effects are worth it...Also the severity of the side effects have been temporary, as the bacteria die off the toxins they leave behind will leave your system and ease the side effects. It is important to replenish your natural bacteria while taking antib with probiotics in yogurt and supplements this helps me with the yeast problems also taking Caprylic Acid and coconut oil have kept yeast under control. Stopping your antib treatment before the course is through can cause a relapse in your symptoms worse than the original illness and can cause antib resistant bacteria...MRSA (bad stuff!!!) I had several headaches while on Flagyl. I stopped taking it and several days later the headaches have been constant for two weeks. My gastroenterologist does not think Flagyl is the cause but I feel otherwise.

I didn't think it did anything to me....Im using it again for the second time but now im scared after reading this.... mainly the fuzzy tongue thing! h

my feet are swollen and I feel a lot of water retention......even my face is swollen

I have been off it for 2 days and my feet still hurt. I feel bloated....I won't ever I repeat ever take antibiotics again...God will have to heal me.

had no other side effects....thought i was in the clear until the last day when i developed an eye rash that has been with me for days after the med stopped

I took flagyl twice in one day and that night my eyes became very itchy and irritated, when I woke up the next day both of my upper eyelids were completely swollen. It was like I had been crying for days, what a weird side effect! But I talked to a pharmacist and they said that is one of the possible effects so....? weird!

I think I got every side effect you could get with this nasty stuff. It manifested itself slowly so I wasn't sure if I was losing my mind or what! I've had metal mouth, nausea, bruising, furry tongue, and most of all just didn't feel right in the head. Couldn't communicate, panic attacks, crying for no real good reason. This stuff is awful!

I just finished a 10 day (4xday) prescription of Flagyl (250 mg) prescribed by my Gastro doctor for treatment of (SIBO) Severe Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth. Two days after finishing Flagyl I broke out in hives all over my body and my upper eyelids were very swollen. Now my dermatologist has me on Zyrtec and Prednisone. Has anyone broken out with hives and had swollen eyes from taking Flagyl?

Wake up people!!!, Flagyl ,Test this crap on the clowns who created this death pill. Let them feel the side effects,neck and shoulder pain enough to be kept sedated,water diarrhea,stomach cramps,this has caused more pain then having a leg and hip amputated

I was in hospital for 16 days - no food no water - had flagyl and levaquin in IV form - i had pancreatitis - my gall bladder is fine - they did every test imaginable to me and gave no reason for the sudden flare-up of pancreatitis - i do not drink at all - my hubby is 27 years into his recovery = the meds made me feel really weird - like my tongue was dissolving like alka seltzer - my tongue was coated totally green- i kept vomiting and feeling so exhausted but i could not sleep - how can they fda approve drugs like this?

I was prescribed Flagyl 500m.g tid,for 10 days;The main problem was sleeplessness; I stopped the medicine in 5 days.Then comes all other problems.After 5 days ofI started having back pain and fever.

I was prescribed this drug for C-Diff.
This is my 2nd time taking this drug for the C-Diff.
It absolutely makes me so miserable,
physically and mentally.
I feel bad all over.
It's hard to describe, you feel like
you're going to die or something.
I have an extremely bad headache.
My shoulders and hands hurt.
I ache and feel weak.

I took the metronidazole for about four days.
I went to bed one night and woke up with the worst shoulder pain possible, it feels like I just had surgery on it. it's been this way for about 3 days, so I am stopping the medication.

vagina rashes and itchy. can't sleep. nausea, the hell with this medicine, i never expect that everyday will be a horrible day for me. it seems like things are getting worst every time I'm taking this drug.

After 1 day of taking this medication, my body instantly didn't agree with it. I experienced dizziness, nausea, dry mouth, no appetite and the worst diarrhea that i ever experienced. I also kept vomiting and recieved a yeast infection in the process. Finally after 3 days I stopped it under my own discretion. My doctor couldn't believe it was doing of this in 3 days. Every medication isn't for everyone

Flagyl has been used with Septra to treat a bacterial infection that resulted from an infected cyst in my rectal area. Below I've listed some of the horrific side effects I think are from this medication. I'm going to ask the surgeon tomorrow.

anyone get rash in the crack of your butt from taking Flagly? I suspect its yeast but its not in my vagina or rectum,just the butt crack...I, of course, also get the severe headaches with tremendous pressure in the back of my head...so bad that I feel like it will explode.

This is not a new side effect, but I wanted to let other people who are taking Flagyl to hear this and hope it will help them while they are taking this awful medication. The pill form is the worst medication I have ever had to swallow. I found that if I coat the pill in butter, I can swallow the pill without gagging and I have no aftertaste. I also eat a couple of crackers before I take it, to stop the stomach upset.

I had the usual side effects: nausea, diarrhea, bad taste, etc. I wasn't able to finish the 10 day course (only 7 1/2). My biggest complaint is the bad taste and the furry yellow tongue. My doctor gave me an anti-fungal but it hasn't gone away. It has been 2 weeks since my last dose and my tongue is still yellow and furry! I am disgusted and embarrassed.

My two year old was given it for Cdiff. She has been off it for a week, and just started having mucus and blood in her stools. Her doctor perscibed it again and wants her to take it for 10 more days 4 times a day! I am getting her a different doctor and medication.

This stuff is aweful. I took 6 pills total over 3 days, and wow, headaches, burning left foot (comes and goes, mostly after up walking aroung then sitting down) Pressure in the back of my head is aweful. I haven't taken this drug for 4 days, but still have these stupid side effects. Anyone have any reassuring comments for me? Has anyone had this problem and did it go away after a while?

nausea, nausea, and more nausea. hasn't gone away yet and it's been over a year. I have asked numerous pharmacists and they say that it should not have lasted this long but ......? The nausea started the 7th and last day that I took it and I was somewhat fine before. Had cdiff.

My Dad's doctor put him on this. Before he was put on it he was up walking around and saying a few words, laughing with us. Now he is in a wheelchair and not eating. My dad has Alztimers (?) so he don't talk much anyways but we have notice that he don't like to eat anymore not even ice cream that he use to love daily. His urine is brownish with a little red in it. My dad can't speak for himself to tell us what hurts or what's wrong with him but my Mom and I can that something is wrong.
This medication is awful I wouldn't say anything nice about it.

I thought this stuff was going to kill me! Sure I could live with the bad taste and the feeling like I was going to hurl, I could even handle the thrush. But then it started to effect my mind. It made me feel so ill. I had confusion, I would get disoriented. Then it got to the point my arms head and neck would have uncontrollable jerky movements. Then it messed with my speech. It was hard to get the words out. While trying to talk I would just start to cry, all the while my arms are flaring. Some thought I must have had a stroke. I looked like I had Parkinson Disease. I took this for about a total of 5 days. The first 2 days were okay, just felt pressure in my head behind my eyes and in my ears. By day three I felt like someone slipped me something bad. That was when the jerks and speech problems started. Once the medication was stopped, it was 72 hours later that the jerking movements stopped and I could speak normally. I was prescribed this for c-diff. The c-diff was a walk in the park compared to what this drug did to me. The doctor says those side effects can happen but it was VERY rare. I guess I was the rare one. So I say it is a VERY bad drug. But it is hard to say if I may have an underline condition that is not known and this drug just brought it to the surface. Either way I would avoid this like drug, that is just my opinion. I now know what hell must be like.

I won't take metronidazole again. I have such pain in my both shoulders and aches and pains all over. Have been so tired, just want to sleep. The doctor said it isn't from the medicine, but Arthritis. I really think it is the medicine.

I was perscribed several doses of flagyl for Cdif, and after about 4 months I developed complete numbness of my toes. I immediately stopped medication and feeling returned to my toes in about 5 to 6 months. Now it is 2 years later and I am having painful numbness in my arms and toes when I sleep. Though I am no longer taking the drug I believe the two are connected.

Have had serious side effects: pain in tingling in all extremities, severe muscle and tendon pain, join popping and pain, nausea, headaches, mental confusion, difficulty talking, walking or lifting, dizziness and lightheadedness, and everything I eat and drink tastes terrible like I'm eating metal. My doctor says he has never had a patient react with every possible severe reaction. Well, now he has...

Tongue is furry as if i have oral thrust.

raspy, hoarse voice, feels like sore throat.

as of now...no side effects...would like to know what Flaglyl is used for????
