Thanks everyone here for your comments. I experienced severe insomnia, restlessness, and anxiety while taking Flomax. Also, stuffy nose, swollen throat, and shortness of breath. Since insomnia, restlessness, and anxiety are not widely reported side-effects of Flomax, at first I didn't think that was the cause. Instead I thought I was having a relapse of the major depression that I recovered from 10 years ago, which began with similar symptoms. That scared me! Then I talked to my doctor, and he told me to STOP taking Flomax. I did, and within 24 hours, the insomnia and restlessness are gone. I don't know what our next treatment option is going to be, but it sure won't be Flomax. Flomax had me flummoxed!

I am a 57 year old female and have been on Flomax for 3 years. I have tried twice to stop but my urinary hesitancy was worse. Has anyone had this experience? Does anyone know how to wean off this medication? Doctors don't seem to have the answer.

insomnia, reverse ejaculation, . Insomnia after 5 weeks, reverse ejaculation after 3 days. stopped Flomax 8 days ago and still can't sleep without a pill ! never had sleep problems in my life. does something to the sleep mechanism in your brain. they show 2.4 % with insomnia - i wonder about that as it seems a consistent theme on this board. Flomax did not stop me from going 3 x a night and only yielded a very moderate urine flow improvement.

My Urologist prescibed this drug for me after having kidney stones removed, he also said I had a slightly increased prostate.
The side effects of this drug are horrendous. I've had dizzines, sore throat, running nose, constipation, insomnia and by far the worst of all is the itching. I have scratched until I have drawn blood. Anti-histamines give no relief. The only way I have obtained some relief from the itching is by holding ice cubes to it. I will never take this drug again no matter what!

Posting to fix typographical error, other changes made.
Flomax should not be used by anyone. It attacks the eyes. One would never want to hurt the eyes. One will not be able to have cataracts removed, either. I took a single pill, before I knew this, and yet some side effects keep increasing for one week now. I guess my liver is not very good. Without a healthy enough liver, this stuff might remain in blood forever. I don't know what is going to happen. I have no control. I stopped immediately, but the drug effects keep marching on, because drug is still active. Some side effects which are increasing even though I took only one pill: unusual and severe back pain, constipation, excessive sensitivity to light, blurrier vision, headache, transitory sharp pains in eyes. Other side effects which remain but are not increasing are insomnia, (at best now I have restless inferior pieces of sleep with somewhat changed dreams, not restful sleep, a completely different sleeping pattern and experience), also a few nasal things remain that are not getting worse. Over-all am morbidly affected by this change in health this last week, especially distressed I guess by changes in vision, at least some of which and maybe all are permanent, and in the sudden lack of hope for removing cataracts in the future. My sense of self is of course changed and the knowledge of my lack of sufficient thoroughness in checking this drug out, recklessness in using, doesn't help either, but the main thing is simply being less healthy.

I am using Flomax for 3 weeks....I also suffer from a neurological disease. I was given Flomax after trying other drugs that caused retention....then after an extensive eurodynamics test...it showed the opposite...that my bladder does not contract.
Since taking Flomax, I must tell the doctor when I see him that I must take a sleeping pill, it is causing me insomnia and vivid dreams.
Also, I never woke up to urinate during the night, now I do.
Is my flow better....who knows?
YES....I am a FEMALE!

Wish I had read this site before starting with Flomax. Whereas it did take care of the frequentcy of urination problems at night, several other problems reared thier ugly heads. Among them were decresed sex drive, less firm erection, insomnia, dizziness and some depression.
Wish that my doctor had been more spacific with me on the side-effects and hadn't just said "try this for a while."

I have just started using Flomax. My first experiences of side effects seem to include insomnia, negative dreams which are exceedingly rare for me otherwise, dizziness when standing up to urinate at night, and pressure in my ears so that I can even hear my heart beat at night, or the sign of heart beat in my ears from effects on blood vessels in the ears. I have not given it sufficient "trial" but these are noticable side effects, so far.

I'm a 59-year old male who hadn't suffered from insomnia for 20 years...until switching to Flomax from Doxazosin (4mg am & pm). Thank goodness for this blog/bulletin board because now I know probable cause of dreadful insomnia that's afflicted me for past 3 weeks. It's back to Doxazosin tomorrow for me!
