My daughter received her second gardacil shot in August and has been steadily losing about a handful of hair each day. She has had bloodwork done and her thyroid checks out okay as does her complete blood count so we know she is not anemic. The doctor feels that her hair loss is stress related. There have been many other times in her life that have been stressful and she has never lost hair. I feel the gardacil vaccine plays an important role in her hair loss. I fear that she will become bald and that her hair may not regrow. If anyone has had a similar experience and your hair has grown back, please reply. Thanks. ******

My daughter had the Gardasil vaccine over two years ago. Pneumonia, migraines, hair loss, menstrual changes, dehydration, etc. etc. you name it ... it's very scary. I learned lots after joining a chat group on yahoo ... let's talk about Gardasil ... there is lots of information on diet, detox, doctors, etc. that might be helpful to you. Please join to see if we can help. We are all in this together and together we are hoping to stop this horrible vaccine.

I am so grateful to have found this site and to everyone who has posted. My 20-yr-old daughter received her first dose in Feb. 09. About a week later she began feeling extremely fatigued and weak. She was diagnosed with mono even though the mono test came back negative. She recovered from the fatigue and weakness prior to the 2nd shot in late April/early May. Soon after that she began complaining of hair loss. She was diagnosed with alopecia areata and our doctor put her on a different oral birth control pill. Her hair loss has continued, she has a fairly large bald spot on the back of her head just below the crown and her hair is very thin all over, especially just above her forehead. She will NOT be having the 3rd shot. She is starting to get some regrowth just above her forehead, regrowth on the bald spot on the back of her head is much slower. The hardest part is not knowing if or when her hair will regrow. I had not considered Gardisil as a potential cause for this until after I watched the ABC News story on Aug. 18, 09. I hope that all of you girls and young women will fully recover from your symptoms, and thanks to all who have posted here. Sincerely, B. C, Tualatin, OR

My 14 year old daughter received her fist Gardasil shot in Sept/Oct 08. Soon after she started losing her hair and thinning. Now it is coming out in handfuls. She is so upset and I believe that she is becoming depressed due to the emotional heartache. She has not received any more shots. Anyone who reads this don't give this to your daughter.!

My 15-year-old daughter experienced alopecia (bald patches) after the first injection. We didn't initially connect it to the vaccine. Then, after the second shot, her thick long hair thinned significantly. She will NOT be getting the third injection Gardasil is poison. Anyone else who has experienced hair loss, please post a comment with information on how long it took to come back. She cries daily about this and it breaks my heart.

16 yr old daughter was given 1st injection in June 2008, her arm ached for several days thereafter. We never took her for her second injection since the various side effects were mentioned on the news shortly after the first injection. Daughters medical history was unremarkable prior to the Gardasil injection. Within a few weeks of the injection my daughter was at a concert with friends when she became dizzy, lightheaded, nauseated, having chest pains with a squeezing sensation, heart racing so fast she said she thought it was going to jump out of her chest. In November 2008 the same symptoms appeared again and my daughter passed out at the local Mall. Now, last week April 16, 2009 my daughter was at home when these same symptoms presented and wife rushed her to hospital. She was having SVT's (Supra Ventricular Tachycardia) with a heart rate of 283!. The ER staff quickly went into action and attempted to Cardiovert her (Shock Her Heart) into a normal sinus rhythm. After three unsuccessful attempts they finally was able to bring her heart rate down to a manageable level (150 beats per minute) by the use of the drug Lopressor. She is now home and doing fine but is on the cardiac drug, Toprol XL to keep her heart rate down to the high 80's and low 90's. We are to see a Pediatric Cardiologist on April 29, 2009.

My 19 year old daughter has had "Urinary Tract like" symptoms for the past year at least 3 times -- back ache, blood in urine, etc. She has a daily routine of nausea, fatigue, and sometimes vomiting. She most recently added a seizure. She has lost over 40lbs in less than six months and has hair loss as well. She started the shots in June 2007 right after high school graduation. Her last shot was less than a year ago.Now looking back, she began these symptoms after the second shot.

My then 11 year old daughter received her first vaccine in June 2007, and third in December 2007. In January 2008, she began complaining of backaches and headaches. During the spring/summer 2008, she began having tremors, tingling and numbness in her legs and arms. She is always tired and never feels good. We have seen a neurologist and 2 neurosurgeons, had CT scans and MRIs. But no answers. She is on medication that has helped slightly, but she still suffers from a constant headache that she never ranks less that 4 on a scale of 1 to 10. Typically she rates it as a 7 or 8, and we have had a couple of 12s.

My 19 year old daughter received the first shot in March 2008. She immediately had a severe back pain. She had her first seizure in April. She got the second shot in May and had more seizures, fatigue, headaches, severe stabbing stomach pains, body aches and pains, tremor, hair loss, vision problems, 2 UTI's, mono like symptoms - swollen glands, bruising and bleeding gums are the most recent symptom. She had daily seizures throughout the summer and they are now about every 5-6 weeks. She is fighting to recover from this horrible nightmare called Gardasil. Thank goodness we figured this out and she did not get the third shot. Hi.. I'm 18 years old and I have experienced strange side effects that myself and my mother believe is from the Gardasil shot. I had the first shot over the summer, and for weeks after noticed that I was experiencing a rapid hair loss. Knowing that I was anemic I kind of just brushed off the thought and just tried not to pay attention. My doctor put me on iron pills to boost my iron levels, and i also began eating healthier. So, slowly the hair loss became not a noticeable. Then in the fall I got my second shot. And, weeks after my hair loss began again.. except worse this time. I found myself crying myself to sleep and spending hours on end looking up information on the internet. Finally it hit me that it must have something to do with the Gardasil shot. My mom took me to get blood work for anemia.. and it had improved.. so that couldn't be the cause of the hair loss. Well, now its late winter and i have not gone back for the third shot.. and actually things have gotten better. My hair loss is not as much and though my hair has thinned out quite an amount, its not the most of my worries anymore. I just wanted to put it out there that if things got better for me, then hopefully they can for everyone else as well. I'm looking to find better dieting to help improve everything, but the doctors deny it being from the Gardasil at all. I don't believe them.

See my earlier post (from concerned mother on 8/5/08 at 8:29pm) regarding my daughter's severe reaction to the Gardasil vaccine during October - December 2007. As stated, she continues to experience menstrual problems (nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, severe cramping) which incapacitate her. In October 2008, her annual pap test showed precancerous cells. She is going for a re-check in February (I will post the outcome once it's known). The doctor wanted to wait 6 months for re-check but we are not comfortable with that. Just wanted to remind everyone to get their annual pap exams!!!

My daughter is 11 years old. In Nov 08 she received her first Gardasil shot, she did okay at first just some very mild tenderness at the injection site. Just two days ago, she was just lounging around the house and a substantial chunk of her hair fell out! Of course she was devastated and I immediately called her pediatrician. The on call doctor did not seem concerned and didn't' provide any useful information so I took to the internet. I found photos of Alopecia Areata that looked EXACTLY like the bald spot on my daughters head, same shape and size. I searched for a couple days and racked my brain trying to figure out what caused this to happen to a healthy, athletic 11 year old, then I found this website. Although none of the other sites even mention hair loss as a side effect to Gardasil, I now realize that it has occurred in many. I am connived it was the Gardasil that caused this.

Oh my goodness.....my daughter, age 17, had her first injection in June 2008, started losing her hair w/in a month. We thought it was form straightening, some high lightening etc. She had blood work done which showed she was anemic...strange, as 2yrs prior her blood work was stellar, and she had not changed her diet, or physical activity. She increased her iron and protein intake (along w/ supplements).....three months later, and after her second injection, iron was still anemic....worse actually, and her hair loss significant.I found this website last night....and I am floored......I called MERCK today and spoke to a representative wh o was not aware of the hair loss issue, but said that in their case studies, Autoimmune Hemolytic Anemia was a side effect.....which leads to hair loss itself.....so I am researching now what to do next.....anyone else have this issue??????

I am a 22 year old, healthy female and received my fist two shots last September. By November, I began to notice my hair falling out, which became more excessive in December, prompting me to receive blood tests for thyroid problems, nutritional imbalances, etc. Everything came back negative and I self diagnosed the problem to be a hormonal imbalance caused by my birth control (which was hard to believe being that I had been on it for two years with no hair loss). I stopped the pill the end of January and my hair loss coincidentally stopped as well. I received my third shot in April, and sure enough the same devastating hair loss began two months later, which is classic with drug induced alopecia (hair loss). I am CONVINCED that Guardasil has caused this devastating reaction that has caused me to loose half my head of hair. It is October and I am still experiencing significant hair loss. This vaccine has caused me nearly a year of emotional turmoil over my thinning hair.

If you know of anyone developing alopeica areata(hair loss which causes bald spots on the scalp) after receiving the Gardasil shot, please call and report to Merck at 1-800-444-2080. They must be made aware of all of the symptoms associated with this shot.

my 12 year old daughter received 2 shots and we noticed a bald spot on the back of her head. A couple weeks later, it is getting worse, she now has at least 3 bald spots. She has very fine hair and is trying really hard to hide the bald spots, 2 in the front of her scalp. I know this is a result of the Gardasil shot. She will not be getting the 3rd shot. All of the doctors recommend this shot. Its only been out on the market a few short years, and i believe more research is needed. My daughter is to the point of tears every morning trying to fix her hair to cover up the bald spots. A dermatologist has diagnosed her with alopecia areata. There are new spots appearing all the time and I am worried that she will lose all of her hair.

OMG! My daughter is 15 and received her first Gardasil shot in July, perfectly health, very active teenager. Recently we noticed hair loss in the forward part of her scalp. I'm not positive it is from the vaccine but after reading all the postings on this site I will be calling the doctor first thing tomorrow to cancel her 2nd shot - scheduled for 9/18. Thank you all for your comments. I urge other parents to do the same.

After having the third shot I noticed my hair began falling out (July 2007). It is now over a year later and after having numerous blood tests, visiting a dermatologist and doing tons of research, I have concluded that gardasil must be causing this. My hair continues to fall out, I have bald areas around the crown of my head and my mood is very depressed by this. I also experienced soreness in my legs and joints but these are not constant. My periods also are out of whack. They can be between 28-50 days apart. I would not recommend anyone getting this vaccine. I wish my OBGYN had not sold me on it. I was 31 when I got it but she said age didn't matter, she said one day insurance companies would cover this vaccine for all women no matter what age they are. I paid $190.00 a shot and now I have a thin head of hair that may one day soon be bald if it doesn’t stop falling out. I think they should take this vaccine off the market. If anyone else has had severe hair loss, has it stopped falling out after a certain point?

well this is my first time hearing about these conditions. i was just aware of it by my mother when i told her ive had these lympth nodes by my pelvic area for about a month which is a month later after my last injection of the gardasil shot. throughout my entire injections ive nevered experience any sie affects not untill my last injection but my side affect are the lympth nodes. the story my mother had told me was about a girl around my age(16) who had gotten paralyze from the injection once she discover her lympth nodes but difference with her and i,she had soo much pain frm themas in pain to walk maybe swelling had occurred. As i read through all the articles of women and teens had experience such horrible side affects from this injection i have came to realize after my second shot ive myself experience hair loss an as of right now my hair is so thined out that when i pick up my hair there bald patches in th front but question is could this be a gardisil disaster? see i didn't worry much about it due to family memeber will constantly tell me no more hairspray or anything and let my hair down because too much of all of it could be the cause of my hair falling out. but till this day i am still losing an enormous amount of hair even after my injections of the shot. should i be worried or should i wait it out as i was??

I received my first shot of Gardasil in January 2007. It could have started sooner, but about a month later my hairdresser noticed a bald spot in the back of my head. I rushed back to my ObGyn and asked her if the Gardasil could be the cause as nothing else had recently changed. She said that she had not heard of this, but she referred me to a dermatologist. I asked him if my hair loss had anything to do with the Gardasil. He replied that I had Alopecia areata and one thing had nothing to do with the other. He advised that I continue with the Gardasil and that he would start treating me for the alopecia. I wish that I would not have listened. I don't know what would have happened if I had stopped then, but I didn't I proceeded with the treatment to the end now over half of my head is bald!!!
I don't know what to do. I keep going back to the dermatologist for treatments for the alopecia, but it just keeps getting worse.
If anyone has had a similar experience and would like to share or has found some other treatments that work, please post a reply.

I received my first Gardasil shot on May 5, 2008 and about two days later I began to notice I was losing a lot of hair. I didn't fret because I had just gotten done taking finals and had been stressed to the max. I figured it was just my body responding to the stress. I have a lot of hair so it didn't phase me one bit. A week progressed and I would lose gobs of hair when I took out my hair band, brushed my hair, washed my hair, dried my hair. Now May 17, 2008, nearly 2 weeks later, my hair is half of what it used to be. I am freaking out. When I say I have lost alot of hair, I mean I can ball up the amount that comes out after a typical shower and it is about the size of a golf ball. I have not introduced anything new in my diet, nothing has changed, and I am not stressed. I am convinced this is due to Gardasil. Has anyone else experienced hair loss? If so, for how long? I am really scared.

After receiving my second vaccination I discovered pimples on my scalp, followed by hair loss. This condition is still reoccurring eight months later. Although doctors say this has nothing to do with Gardasil, it happened almost immediately after the second injection.
