Geodon - Weight Loss, Mania Anyone?
________________________________________
I've been on Geodon for 5 wx & have lost 15 #'s. I usually weigh 130, now 115. looking anorexic, but my depression is a lot better now, I'm happy, first time in ovr a yr. nothing else could break the barrier except the Geodon, but it makes me manic, on top of already being manic…can't sleep. as I was about to crash & burn (thu), before I went running to the ER, i found my stash of 4 mg Risperdal that I just weened myself off of 3 mos ago, due to the long term side effects I was having (td, slurring, twitching, sexual dysfunction...). it took the edge off, til I can talk to the pdoc on tue.
like many of you, i’ve tried everything. i’m at my wit’s end. This bizarre combo seems to work for me. It puts a muzzle on the mania, allowing me a more hypomanic state where I can function & still feel really happy. although I’m going to try 40 vs 60 mg geodon. & try going down to 2 mg risperdal or try another a/p. adding the risperdal allowed me to sleep, along w/the lorazepam. but, I prefer not to be on risperdal
So, as of now…i'm on 60 mg geodon, 675 mg lithium, 4 mg risperdal & 1 mg lorazepam X 2/day.
has anyone else had this experience? Especially w/the mania & weight loss?

At first I felt really stoned on the Geodon (60mg). Took about 2 weeks to adjust to it. I am also on Lithium 600 at night. Seems now that by the end of the day it has all worn off and I feel bad. The suicidal ideations come back at night. In the morning I feel good. Also take restoril 30 and Klonopin 2mg at bedtime. I mentioned to the MD about taking Geodon twice a day and he was unimpressed. I feel like I burn through it. Any comments would be appreciated! Thanks.

I first was taking 240mg of geodon 2 at bedtime and 1 in the morning and all I wanted to do was sleep. Then I stopped taking the one in the morning and it got a little better. And then I started just taking 1 8o mg at night and it got even better. Now if i do take the geodon late at night and wake up early I will feel terrible. But I try to take it as early as possible even before dinner sometimes that way I am not as tired in the morning.

I am on 60mgs at night and have noticed a lot of shakiness and sometimes I get muscle twitches. My doc said it would also help me sleep and it has done the opposite. I'm BP so I have the racing thoughts and I have been having them at night so I cant sleep until about 3AM. I also sometimes feel feverish and weak. Im pretty sure its Geodon and if Im right it sucks!

hey everyone. I really read all your stories about geodon. I am new to this i am taking depakote 500mg once daily. now the doc prescribed me some geodon, to take at bedtime. i hope i dont go thru the tremors or hearing voices like before when i was on prolixin the worse drug for me personally. i hope geodon will help. and lastly, this life is stressful as it is and i sympathize with all your stories and finally THANK GOD FOR MEDICINE, without it who knows where we would be. ill keep u updated on how geodon works with me. hope u all feel better and hope i feel better also :)

Yes, it is 3:40am and I too am up searching the internet to find out which medication is giving me insomnia! Looks like it's Geodon! I started with 40mg at bedtime for one month and they just upped my dose to 80mg at bedtime. My main problem has been sweating! As a 30 year young female living in sunny California (100 degress plus) it isn't to attractive to have a sweating problem. I am miserable! My eyes are so dilated and dry my husband actually asked me if I was using drugs (ha ha ha) and I am getting "trails" off things and small hallucinations if I wake up in the middle of the night (like a washcloth crawled away on the counter). I have trouble swallowing, am restless and anxious. I feel the symptoms worsened with the increasing dosage. But I guess this is better than the Zyprexa when I gained 30lbs in two weeks! I'm gonna give this drug a chance, hoping the sweat thing will get better with time. I've been playing this medication game long enough to know that unless the side effects are life threatening to stick with it and give it time. I have read many places that if you have stiffness and shuffling walk to stop the drug immediately and I saw a couple posts that were having that problem. It's on the manufacturers website; stop the drug immediately!

When I started taking Geodon and had the charming side-effect of "urge incontinence"--meaning when you feel the urge to pee you can't control yourself long enough to get to the toilet--my psychiatrist immediately went up dramatically on the dosage. I want to say it was from 80mg to 120mg. The problem completely went away.
Later when I was taking 2 doses a day and getting so sleepy at work that I had to go out to the car in the parking lot for an hour nap, this psychiatrist FINALLY (after I lost the job) suggested that I take the whole 120mg at bedtime. I've not had to take a mid-morning nap since.
I have been taking Geodon for 2 years now. I have tried on 5 or 6 occasions to taper it off. I do fine for the first 3 weeks or so, then I begin feeling worthless, as though I'd better achieve something notable fast so I won't feel so bad. I rely on Geodon to allow me to work and take care of my college-age kids. Otherwise I'm in bed flipping channels compulsively to distract myself from how I feel.
I guess that on balance I'm grateful for the drug. Check with me when tardive dyskinesia sets in!

This registry is a place to share positive or negative side effects of using Geodon. If you directly experienced a side effect while using Geodon, then we encourage you to enter it here. Please note that entries here are the experiences of individual users, and in no way means that you or anyone else will experience the same side effect, since the same medication affects people in different ways. Please always contact your physician.

I have been on geodon for about one year. My dosage have been changed too many times to count. I am presently taking geodon 60mg, lamictal 200mg and lunesta at bedtime. On some nights, I am unable to sleep and I have to get up at 430 am. I am very depressed and I feel that nobody understands what I am going through. I don't know which of my meds are causing which side effects, but I need a change. I am 5ft 7in tall and I now weigh 118# (one year ago I weighed 142#).
