I just started Geodon two days ago. What a nightmare! I am a collegiate athlete, and I have no power nor will to train! The side effects are horrible! It's mostly what I've read on the net. (Intense) drowsiness, dry mouth, heart palpitations. Two nights ago, Friday night, I started with 80mg. Last night, the bottle (wrongly labeled) said to move to two pills at dinnertime. (160mg at once!) This morning's effects were worse. I made a decision to stop, since I've only taken it for a short period. Am I going to have the same withdrawl as others?

My 12 year old son was put on Geodon for BPD. He was started at 40mg BID and 3days later upped to 60mg BPD. He slept through the first 3 days at 40mg and I contacted psydoc hesitant to increase. She insisted that paradoxical reactions happen at lower doses and that we should increase it.
Also...said the sedation would eventually wear off. On day two at 60mg my 12 year old started having intrusive thoughts of a sexual nature. They were horrible!! He begged me to make them stop. We stopped the Geodon. He is now very depressed, going through withdrawl, vomiting and still having intrusive thoughts that won't stop of the most perverse sexual nature.
The psych ward for kids is full and he can't be admitted. He is begging for help to make the horrible thoughts stop. It's been about 40 hours since last dose. I called psydoc after the assessment to say he wasn't admitted to hospital and still vomiting and going through withdrawl and begging for someone to help him to stop these thoughts. She has not called us back and it's been four hours.

I have been taking Geodon for three years (ever since it came out in February 2001). Originally at 160mg/day I am now at 80mg/day taken at night. It doesn't make me sleepy and never has, however I notice if I forget to take my Geodon at night I wake up with a terrible headache. I know then that I have forgotten to take it, take some and the headache disappears. I believe there is some withdrawal associated with it. The only other side effect I have noticed is the restlessness, constantly fidgiting.

While on Geodon I am constantly tired yet restless, I have spurts of hypomania here and there, and my jaw is very tight.

There is DEFINATLY a withdrawal from Geodon. After taking it for just a week (80mg twice a day) I missed a dose. Big mistake! I was shaking so much (along with twitching and muscle spasms) and I kept having repeat anxiety attacks. Keep in mind that I had never had an anxiety attack before that. It was terrible.

I started Geodon almost two weeks ago. And I am already stopping. My doctor wanted me to take 40mg the first night, 80mg the second, and 120 the third. I took the 40mg the first night, was passed out cold in exactly two hours (and i didn't want to be). The next day I barely made it out of bed, and missed to classes. Then I fell asleep during my last one, woke up with an extreme stomach pain, ran out, and fainted in the hallway. That night I took 80mg. I didn't move from two afters I took it until 5pm the next day. I was completely useless. And felt horrible when I would try to wake up. It was as though my body was asleep but my mind was trying so hard to wake up but failing. I called the doc and went back down to 40 for the next week. Same effects of immediate sleep exactly 2 hours after taking. Then immobile until at least 1pm, but closer to 3-5 pm. Any time I was awake I was yelling, I was furious! At everyone, everything. The next week he made me move up to 80mg. I felt as though someone had knocked me out. I have never been on a drug that affected me in this way. It made me completely unable to function, as well as it seemed to increase my anxiety threefold, and other sensations that had never existed appeared. I decided I would not put my body, mind, or friends through this any more. Last night was my first night without it. It is now 2:30pm the next day, and I have yet to fall asleep. I spent the whole night wide awake sweating like crazy in what my boyfriend described as an icebox. I feel so uncomfortable and I just want to scream. But I would rather want to scream that be someone that couldn't even move. And hopefully the withdrawl will pass. We'll see. I don't understand why this drug is on the market - it seems as though every person that takes it hates it. or at least has extreme side effects

I found out the hard way that there is deffinately a withdrawal from Geodon. Sweating, tremors, nausea. The following day I took my regular amount again (120mg) and it was as though I'd overdosed The 120mg was spaced out by six hours. I was so overmedicated I could barely talk ,I was staggering and couldn't keep my eyes open. What the heck was that anyway?
