Thank goodness I looked this website up when I did. I had taken only one pill in the morning (was prescribed 2x daily along w/an antibiotic for ear/sinus infection) and was so nauseous that I barely ate all day. My congestion wasn't too bad so I didn't take another. My heart was also beating abnormally and I'm sure the only reason I could go to sleep at 2am was that I only took 1 pill in the morning. At first I thought these symptoms were caused by the antibiotic until I read everyone's reviews. I am throwing this in the trash.

I was prescribed Guaifen PSE ER Tabs for my ears and also an antibiotic for my sore throat. I have noticed a mild loss of appetite. I also flew to Montana for a wedding and my ears wouldnt unpop after we landed, they are still acting a little funny after 4 days. I was instructed NOT to take before bed, but twice daily earlier in the day because if does cause problems when trying to fall asleep.

I was perscribed Guaifen along with an antibiotic. I have done nothing but cough for a week. At bed time, I wake up every other hour. My mouth is very dry and my heart is beating out of my chest. I have little bumps between my fingers that itch a little bit. I'm very headachy and dizzy. I feel like I'm buzzed and shakey. I can say I will not take this drug again!

I had a sinus infection with a slight ear infection a few months ago, in April. I was prescribed Guaifen PSE and Biaxin, an antibiotic. Within the past couple of days I have been feeling very ill and attempted to take the Guaifen - only to realize that I had forgotten about the horrible side effects of last time!
This medicine was very rough on my body. When taking it, I feel very stange, and can not sleep more than 30 minutes at a time no matter how long I have been awake. The first day of taking the medicine, I had to urinate every 15 minutes for the first 8 hours or so, no matter how much or how little liquid I ingested. My mouth is very dry, and after a few days of taking this medicine, my skin became dry and cracked, mostly around my hands and face. I developed a bumpy, red rash on my face after about a week, though I am not sure whether this was from the Biaxin or the Guaifen. It did cause extremely severe coughing fits after the first few days of taking it, which often were bad enough to lead to vomiting.
That said, it does clear up nasal congestion - if you want to be blowing your nose every five seconds. It will drain out every bit of fluid in your body. You have to be feeling pretty bad to take this stuff.

after a long plane flight , hearing in my left ear was severly impaired. the doctor said i had "trama" to my eustacian tube. he prescribed 7 days of an antibiotic & 30 days of "guafin" . it has been 20 days & there has been gradual improvement. i have noticed a loss of appetite & weight loss, i am sleeping less, and it does leave a "vile" aftertaste & dry mouth . but it does work.

I was perscribed Guaifen PSE ER Tablets and an antibiotic for a bad cold. This is my 5th night taking it... and for the past few nights I haven't been able to sleep at all! Last night I couldn't get to sleep until 3:30am, and I got up at 8am, and now its 1:20am and I am not tired.
I am not taking anymore!

I, too, have been feeling a bit buzzed.
It's 4 a.m., I normally go to sleep at midnight, and while my eyes are tired, the rest of me isn't.
The only change in my routine is an antibiotic for a cold, and this stuff. Is it known to be a stimulant?

Don't read all of these posts. I personally have not had much of a problem, let me explain...
I think most of these people exaggerate, and their problems are caused by dehydration. When taking this medication you have to drink excess water, not just the daily amount you should already be drinking. The people with serious problems probably drink lots of coffee or soda with caffeine instead of water. This product basically has ephedrine in it, so it increases your heart rate, and caffeine will compound that problem and the dehydration as caffeine has diuretic effects. A lot of these people probably also took a diet pill and didnt tell their doctor, and that will increase the problems substantially, especially if people are also on a low calorie intake diet. It also constricts blood ways, so if you smoke or you have heavily clogged blood ways already you will most likely have a problem.
You can expect to lose weight though, how about that as a positive side effect.
I would bet that 90% of the problem people on here did not follow the directions with the medication.
I run a lot so that makes me tired after I have already taken the medication twice, so I have not noticed much sleep loss, but you should take this with breakfast and lunch not with dinner.
When I took this with the antibiotic I would occasionally experience abnormal heart beats, but when I stopped taking the antibiotic that stopped, probably because I wasn't supposed to be exposed to a lot of sun, and I live in SO CAL. Read the warnings on all of your medication and tell your doctor about all of the over the counter stuff you take including diet pills.
