Guaifen-C and congestion

I was prescribed this medicine for flu symtoms, one being congestion. It helped my congestion but made it hard for me to sleep. I felt so incredibly high and uncomfortable while taking this medicine that I have stopped. The worst side effect for me was that it made my right hand tingle the whole time I was taking this.

prescribed for sinus infection. it did help the congestion, but also caused EXTREME fatigue, slow movement, slight hallucinations (a lot of "did i just see..." moments), tremors, dizziness...and this was off ONE pill. i took it on friday, was in bed all day saturday, and had the tremors on sunday.

it's monday morning, & i still don't feel quite right. back to the natural cures for me...

I was prescribed GUAIFEN PSE because I had a bad cold with congestion. The med cleared up the congestion but left the worst aftertaste. I had problems eating because everything tasted like burned chemicals. Yeeccchhh!

I was precribed this because I had a bad cold with congestion. I only look the medicine once a day for about 5 days. I've never had a reaction to medication, but this time I did. I broke out bumps that looks like mosquito bites. They're in a few concentrated areas (legs, stomach, forearms). I wish I would have just taken Sudafed to get rid of the cold....

Been taking Guaifen(1 pill twice a day) for 2 days. First night I woke up at 2 and never went back to sleep. Last night I never fell asleep. Works great as a decongestant, but give me congestion any day of the week. Got up last night and my whole body was shivering with my heart racing. This cannot be good for you.

Thank goodness I looked this website up when I did. I had taken only one pill in the morning (was prescribed 2x daily along w/an antibiotic for ear/sinus infection) and was so nauseous that I barely ate all day. My congestion wasn't too bad so I didn't take another. My heart was also beating abnormally and I'm sure the only reason I could go to sleep at 2am was that I only took 1 pill in the morning. At first I thought these symptoms were caused by the antibiotic until I read everyone's reviews. I am throwing this in the trash.

I wish I had read all these posts before I took this awful stuff. I have experienced almost everything listed here except nose bleeds. I had a severe sinus infection and ear infection. Taking antibiotics, too. The first pill I took made me very sleepy, but then went in reverse. I slept for about 2 hours and woke up at 1 am unable to go back to sleep even though I was so tired. I felt like I was on speed. I managed to go to work, I am a hairstylist, but felt nervous all day cutting hair and constantly had to go to the bathroom. I decided this was not for me and I went back to my afrin nose spray to relieve the congestion.

OMG!!!! Have only taken one pill so far and I swear it has made my cough 10 times worse!!!! Doc gave to me to help my congestion, now cough is so bad I cannot stand it (I am also taking something for the cough, but it is not working!!!!)

it's amazing how many people experience pretty much the same side affects from this medicine that is supposed to help us... i too have experienced most of the symptoms everyone else has.. i hate taking medicine for congestion. it's either a stimulant or a downer. so i guess living with congestion and pressure in my ears is the answer.. have been living with it for about 15 years..

The only side effect I have experienced with Guaifen is a decrease in appetite. I have otherwise been fine, and the pills have been working perfectly to drain the congestion as the doctor said.

As an aside, guaifen doesn't cause nosebleeds, dry nose causes it, and the dry nose can be caused by guaifen.

After reading these entries, I believe this is a dangerous drug and should be outlawed. I took it for congestion and have had and awful allergic reaction. My face has become extremely red and itchy and would have been in the emergency room had I had health insurance. This really makes me think that drug companies must be hiring chemists who have cheated their way through school.

Dry mouth, trouble sleeping and feeling a little high in the day. Decided to take it once a day in the morning instead of twice a day because it did help my congestion.
