I just read many postings here regarding lisinopril/hctz and the sexual problems it had caused you. I'm a 26 year old male, just married, and am having major problems with my sex drive and erections as well. I've been to several andrologists and they all concluded that 'everything is fine' and that i shouldn't be having the problems i'm having (based on many blood tests of course). I actually used to have a very high sex drive and no problems at all with erections, but i started losing my sex drive slowly but surely a year ago when i started taking lisinopril/hctz. Few months later, my erection started getting weaker and weaker as well. Now, i almost have no sex life.

I quit lisinopril/hctz just 3 weeks ago, and i THIINK i'm experiencing better morning erections, but still my sex drive is abnormally low. Sometimes my wife gets offended. I may get an erection during foreplay, but the erection is usually short lived, since i have no sex drive in the first place.

Could anyone please share with me their experience with quitting this poison, and please let me know if you recovered your sex drive/life.

Many thanks,

It must be the HCTZ... I was on Lisinopril 20mg for a month with little avail to my bp. I'm 25 and prior to taking it I was at 150/120: during I was bouncing between that and 130/90ish. A Walk-In clinic doctor started me on Lisinopril/HCTZ 20/12.5 and within the week, I had major upper back pain, trouble seeing and severe nausea. I have since gone to half a pill and feel much better. I hadn't heard of any of these side effects. Please let me know if anyone has similar experiences. My Mother thinks I dealt with a bout of the flu, my sister thinks I'm pregnant. Hmph.

*UPDATE* Two pregnancy tests and one week later and still not feeling all that much better. I'm still on half a pill and still getting nausea.

I'm 36 and have been on this med for about 1.5 years. I've had some mild sporadic side effects on going but thought they were just my failing health! Chest pains, tingling in my hands, arms (my left arm bothers me more and scares me of course), my legs and even feet. I have insane muscle spasm/cramps. I have twitches and spasms in places I had no idea were even muscles. Backaches, head and jaw aching, blurred vision, feeling hung over and drugged, tired and require at least 9 consistent hours of uninterrupted sleep if I am to feel okay for half of the day. No energy otherwise, pain in my feet now when I walk, heart flutters and twitches and neck spasms and pain all over my body. I've been in the ER a number of times with them unable to find me ready for the heart attack I think I'm having. I've even been depressed and suicidal with feeling this bad. These symptoms increased in discomfort and My bladder/uterus are enlarged/swollen and morning urination especially is painful even if I have not much to evacuate. I noticed that these symptoms grew more frequent and stronger and the past few months I literally thought I was going to checkout any day. I was just waiting. I thought, oh well, you're on meds for bp, but you got on too late. Your time is up. I noticed also that right after I take my pill I feel worse. So I feel the best (which is not really at all) right before my next pill is due. After reading everybody elses problems with this med, and that it's actually made from snake venom, I am going to as safe and painless as I can, wean myself from this junk. Who in their right mind would give snake venom to people? If you get bit by a venomous snake, these are exactly the things that are effected. Your nervous system, your heart, breathing, blurred vision, etc. My only fear is that having these symptoms now for this long have done permanent damage. I pray not.

I've been on Lisinopril-HCTZ for about 9 months now. I stumbled across this website because I was wondering if perhaps increased heart rate was a possible side effect. Wow, was I surprised to see all the other side effects! I haven't experienced a single problem myself. I've been a recreational runner for quite awhile, and decided to run a half-marathon a few months ago. My average heart rate during the entire race was 188. During training, it's not uncommon for my heart rate to be in the 190-195 range, which seems a little high for my age (34). Resting heart rate is around 55, so that's not a problem. I think it's highly unlikely that my high heart rate while exercising is caused by the Lisinopril.
