Keflex side effects

I just started this course of antibiotics at 3 pm. It is now 6:40 and I feel confused, dizzy, my arms and legs are tingling, i hear weird ringing noises, I'm disoriented, and my stomach feels weird. I'd rather just be sick than continue on with this! I usually am prescribed z pack, and I had a Dr. that was not my usual one today. Stick with z-pack, these are some weird pills.

I have been taking Keflex, 500mg, for about 4 days now, in that time I have since developed a lack of appetite, I have lost my job, my roommate stole my favorite shoes and walked through puddles, my normal sure handedness has disappeared resulting in me dropping 4 eggs on the kitchen floor, my toes are swelling to the point that flip flops are not an option... AND coke tastes like Pepsi...

All of this to treat a sinus infection. I will never take this medicine again.

Had Keflex before and got no side effects at all, Im paraplegic and suffer from UTI's quite a lot, i am also allergic to penicillin. Got given keflex 2 days ago for another uti and this time round i am doing nothing but sleep, I can manage 9 hours awake before i start getting the head drop tiredness. I was given cefaclor last time too, only manage to take 1 of them (250mg) and i got some massive head dizzy spells and random arm twitching, that's when they was changed to keflex (500mg x3td) which im taking now.

No belly pains, well i felt as tho i was all stiff and rigid the first day i started the pills but the day after i was fine no pain at all, just the awful tiredness. I shall cope with it tho as I want rid of this foul smelling urine.

I was on Keflex 500mg 3X a day for ten days for strepp throat. I lost 12 pounds, suffered from extreme anxiety, and has nausea the entire time.

keflex is terrible. took 500g 3x a day but only lasted two days instead of a week (and using the repeat i was prescribed) for my throat infection. it basically knocked me out for the two days i was on it, also experienced extreme nausea and some lower back pain...have now switched to amoxil after talking to my doctor and am feeling much better....won't be taking keflex again. i wonder if there are people who have taken it without any side effects.....

Keflex was not as bad as I thought it would be since I had recently been on Doxycycline which was torture.

I was put on Keflex for a UTI. I took 500mg 4 x a day for 12 days.

I experienced ringing in my ears which was tolerable because it was intermittent.

I had a continuous low-grade headache. When the headache would get worse I would take Advil, which would reduce it to low-grade again - it hardly ever went away completely until I was done the Keflex.

I also had diarrhea which is common with antibiotics. This too was tolerable.

I was nauseous pretty much the whole time but did not vomit.

The thing that bothered me the most is the way my body would feel like it was buzzing. My head would feel weird. And sounds such as running water in the sink, vacuum cleaner, rain on the windshield, etc, felt so loud and like a horrible rushing in my head.

It is a little hard for me to distinguish what was caused by the Keflex, or what was caused by the UTI, or the Endometriosis I might have, as well as the Doxycycline I had been on left some lasting effects.

I have been on a generic version of the drug for 2 days in order to stave off infection on several skin wounds I received after a bad fall. I am experiencing severe headaches and drowsiness (in addition to the terrible taste and smell with small belches). I am unable to stay awake for more than 10 minutes at a time. I'll definitely be discontinuing use of the drug.

I have taken my second dose of 500 mg and am feeling more and more tired, dizzy, and my eyes are very watery and sensitive. this is not fun symptoms but i'm dying to ease my dental pain :(

I was on keflex 500 mg every 8 hours. After four doses, I experienced dizziness, difficulty breathing and syncope. I also had palpitations, high blood pressure, ice cold hands & feet and continued to have dizzy spells while lying flat on my back. None of the labs done in the ER could explain this. It's the keflex. I have taken penicillin before without any adverse reaction. I will never take Keflex again.

17/2/09 I was prescribed Keflex 500mg 3 times a day (every 8 hours) last week after being told that the symptoms I had were possibly due to a kidney infection and to take this over the weekend & ring for the results of the lab test on the urine sample given early Monday morning - I experienced loss of appetite, lower back pain, tingling in my lips & the side of my face(by Sunday night that occurred) severe foot cramps, pains in my leg & stomach pain - my husband advised me Sunday night to stop taking the drug until I had spoken to the surgery. (incidentally the Doctor had been wrong the lab tests showed no kidney infection!!) following cessation I woke up this morning with my whole body drenched in sweat!! My appetite though has returned. I will never take it again!! & all because of a wrong diagnosis!!

I've been taking Keflex since January 1 for a leg infection; 3x a day and recently dropped it down to twice a day. I've experienced night time headaches, increased fatigue and starting 2 nights ago, bilateral leg cramps and lower back discomfort. Also feeling more anxious. No more Keflex for me.

After taking generic Keflex for 13 days;500mg3xday; i developed a severe skin rash on legs,arms, neck,back,face,eyes,ears,and nose.Was taking med for a serious infection on top of my foot;(same foot bit by brown recluse spider in 2002).Also feel weird all over. Foot infection getting worse and DOCTOR knew i was allergic to penicillin and so did pharmacist.DON'T PLAN ON TAKING THIS MED ANYMORE!!!!! gk65.

I have been taking Keflex for about 6 days to treat wicked UTI and have started having discarge and vaginal irritation ... after looking back at the printed out info they give you with your meds those happen to be on the list and it says call doctor immediately!!! I am a 54 year old female ...and along with these symptoms I had some spotting!!

Long story short, I got a terrible skin infection on my right index finger, directly next to the nail. I was prescribed Keflex 500mg, 3 capsules a day. So far, I see no improvement whatsoever, in fact, the infection is becoming more elevated and more sensitive. My whole finger has doubled in size and I can hardly bend it all the way down anymore. I've been taking Keflex for 4 days now.

I was put on Cephalexon (Keflex) for an anorectal abcess & immediately came down with raging tinnitus, headaches, earaches, lethargy, jaw pains, eye pains, & fever. This was three months ago & the symptoms remain. Three doctors have yet to figure out why. I've had blood tests which only show that I have "a low-level infection" of some type. In the interem, I've had surgery for an anorectal abcess, yet my post-Keflex symptoms continue.

I was prescribed a generic for keflex (cephalexin), 500mg three times a day for 10 days for cellulitis(skin infection through an insect bite). My gastrointestinal tract went totally haywire as soon as I started taking the medication, bad stomach upset. The infection subsided in a couple of days but started having stomach cramps and the diarrhea continues for almost a month till I started taking probiotics to replenish all the flora in the gi tract.
It has been almost a month after I stopped taking this medication and now experience phantosmia( phantom smell ), in my case smelling smoke/exhaust fumes at random times throughout the day. I mentioned this symptom to the doc and according to here, it is one of the side effects asked me to hang in there for 5 more months before I can consult an ENT specialist.

I've been taking Keflex for a few days now and considering my job is driving i have been unable to attend work due to extreme drowsiness. This needs to be one of the main side affects it seems.

I finished a 5 day course of 1000 mg a day over a month ago. About a week afterward, I started having sharp pinging pains in the "bend" areas of where my colon is. Painful gas and bowel movements, and blood in the bowl. (not in stool) Also have had gum pain and mouth ulcers. My intestines feel blistered. I'll be ok a couple of days when eliminating, then suddenly a bowel movement will be followed by bright red blood and tissue. Very scary. I am taking Acidophilus, trying to eat carefully and drink only water, nothing harsh or citrusy. I have pain on the left side of my gut mostly. Under ribs, at waist and very low left side. I'm afraid, but then, this is a harsh drug and I do not have fever, have not dropped weight, lost appetite, or felt weak. I just feel like my insides are shredding and ulcerated. I will NEVER take this again. It's odd, because I have taken it before, for much long than this. I refused to take the last 2 doses the former time, because it literally tasted like fertilizer smells when i would belch after a pill. Vicious drug. I am watching myself and my issues, and hoping I don't have to have further treatment and that I have not totally ruined my colon beyond repair.

I didn't pinpoint it until tonight, but after every dose I feel really hot for about an hour. No cold chills, though. And the first day I was on it, I had a terrible headache, but that could have also been due to the lortab, because I sat on something sharp and metallic and it hurt.

After reading someone elses post, I remember I also had eye irritation.

I had the very same thing with it, very severe migraine headaches. The first day the headache was mild, the second day harsh, the fourth day absolutely unbearable. I also will never touch it again.

My son started taking Keflex 500 MG for a knee injury because of a Dirt bike accident and he had a MAJOR anxiety attack, had the sweats and felt like he was going to vomet. I never in my life saw him like that and I don't ever want to see him like that again. I will never use that Antibiotic or have any of my boys use it.

I have been taking keflex for 3 days for severe cellulites on my right leg that was caused by an insect bite. I am allergic to penicillin, which the doctor knows. The pharmacist did counsel me and I knew. I have developed itchy patches in a lot of places, especially my face. So far it is not bad enough that I can't handle it. I am not ready to throw in the towel yet and try something else though because I know it is supposed to be effective against what ails me. I was bit by a brown recluse spider in 1984 and as a result I am concerned about how bad a skin infection like I have can get (even though I am sure this time the insect that bit me was not a poison spider). I have a few mild other symptoms (stomach, back, tired) and I have been feeling a little blue also but I am not sure whether keflex is the cause of any of that, or if it is the bite.

I just stopped taking Keflex 500 MG dosage after taking it every 6 hours for 4 days straight and I have suffered from blurry vision and eye irritation the whole time......

I was prescribed Keflex 500mg to take twice a day for strep throat. Since I started this medication I also came down with a cough, nasal congestion and I am soooo tired! I cant stay awake! I also have had problems with bowel movements. I took magnesium sulfate to try and loosen things up. It took two days before I finally had a bowel movement... very painful and bleeding! I don't know if the Keflex has caused the Castro symptoms or the terrible feeling of being tired all the time but it has been miserable! I have had a mild headache also, but nothing I cant live with. Just wondering if I should stop the medication? I started this on Wednesday of last week. It is now Monday.

i have only taken it for 1 day & I am having dizzy spells when i stand up & very metallic taste in mouth

I was prescribed Keflex following spinal fusion surgery and noticed immediate reactions. These included: ringing in ears, hot and cold flashes, loss of taste and smell, and terrible metallic taste in mouth.

I have only been on it for several days but I have noticed strange ear noises, similar to the beeps used in audiometric testing. More noticeable at night.

I HAVE BEEN TAKING KEFLEX FOR ONE WEEK. ONE 500MG CAPSULE EVERY 6 HOURS. I HAVE BEEN VERY TIRED. MY VISION SEEMS TO HAVE GONE DOWN HILL, BLURRY. AND MY APPETITE HAS DECREASED. DON'T KNOW IF KEFLEX IS TO BLAME OR TURNING 36 DURING THE COURSE OF TAKING THE MEDICINE. JUST MUST BE OLD AGE CATCHING UP

I forgot to mention the loss of appetite.

I was prescribed keflex for a kidney infection. I experienced DEPRESSION symptoms and felt BLOATED. The drug at times increased PAIN symptoms in stomach and lower back area. I also had very little energy. Given my irrational behaviour on keflex, & the significant mood improvement when I finished the course, I have decided that I will NEVER take keflex again and that pharmacists and doctors need to discuss the drug with patients / clients.

I have been taking Keflex for the past two days, one 500mg dose every 12 hours, and I only had 3 doses total when I started having severe reactions. I had very sharp abdominal pain and cramping, then felt very hot, then very cold, and began to shiver uncontrollably, my hands and legs got tingly and then my legs began to have muscle spasams. These symptoms lasted for about 3 hours and today (next morning) they are better for the most part but I still have abdominal pain. I don't think I will take this drug again.

I was subscribed the 500mg tablets for a throat infectionn. Within 15 minutes of taking this drug, it basically puts me to sleep. One of the few drugs that really makes me tired. Interesting that it is not listed as a typical side effect.

I was given Keflex when I went into surgery and it made my mouth itch and burn. Then my face swole up and I passed out and the surgery had to be stopped. Later when I went home I just slept and my appetite was terrible for about a week or two.

I am pregnant and I have got a rash all over my body when I started taking this.

Ive been on keflex for a day and a half and have difficulty breathing... I am done with this med ...im calling my doctor first thing in the morning

I have been taking Keflex, 500 mg, twice a day for 5 days. I have cramps in the stomach and feel very tired. Today, after a week I'm starting with chills. I won't know if I have fever until I take my temperature when I get home from work. I was taking it for bronchitis and am still coughing after a week. Should I continue to take it?

My daughter,who is 11, was given Keflex 3 times a day to treat a staph infection. She has taken 6 days of the medication and now has a terrible pain in her stomach. She was told to stop taking the medication but has not been able to eat or go to school for the past 4 days.

My mother was a diabetic with conjusted heart failure and got her fingur infected. She was given cephalexin alone with Keflex she got direaher and died within a few days.

I took one and have severe vomiting for four hours and had difficulty breathing. I did not take any more.

I was prescribed Keflex, 500mg, 3 times a day for pre-root canal procedure by my dentist. I took a total of 3 pills and experienced SEVERE migraine headaches and nausea. Keflex made me extremely ill. My pharmacist told me to stop taking them and my dentist prescibed a different antibiotic. I will NEVER take that antibiotic again!!!!!

Following dental surgery, it was prescribed at 500MG, 4 times a day. I didn't always remember it 4 times, but have been having a headache even when I only take it 2-3 times per day.

I have been taken keflex for 2 days every 6 hour which is 4 times a day, i have been experiencing sharper pain then i was, and I am feeling light headed and ready to vomit. Should i stop taken it???

I've been using Keflex 3 times a day at 500 mgs. I've experienced migraines and nausea.

I have been takin Keflex two days 4 times a day and all I do is sleep. I was concerned about it making me have trouble breathing because I'm on oxygen all the time but it hasn't bothered yet. Is this natural for it to make me tired?

I have been taking Keflex, 500 mg, 4 times a day now for 8 days. I have gained 6 pounds! I eat a lowcarb diet, and do not eat sugar. I am wondering if Keflex is elevating my insulin levels? I have four days left and am very hesitant to continue this medication!
