I can't believe that so many doctors don't know about the side effects of Kenalog and/or don't advise their patients about them. It's unbelievable!!! My father was a very well-known rheumatologist in Puerto Rico (he passed away in 1994) and I worked with him for many years. And one of the first things I learned about Kenalog (and all corticosteroids) were its possible side effects, the most common ones being redness or pain at the injection site, headache, menstrual period changes and/or post-menopausal bleeding, easy bruising and/or bleeding, swelling of the ankles/feet, persistent weight gain, puffy face, unusual hair growth and thinning of the skin, among many others. In case you want to learn more about this, you can visit ******.

I myself am post-menopausal although I'm only 51, and haven't had my period for over two years now. Two weeks ago I got a shot of Kenalog for my back pain and about three days later started spotting, and right now I'm having full vaginal bleeding. I don't worry cause I know it was the Kenalog, but since I have an appointment on the 29th with my gynecologist, she'll tell me if anything has to be done.

Anyway, I hope to have helped the soooo many women who have soooo many doubts about Kenalog. Take care, friends! TutiMM from Florida

I have a herniated disc L5S1. I had my first of six injections in September of 2006. for three months I had problems with my periods. After my third shot my husband and I decided to start trying to get pregnant. We wanted to try earlier but my back pain stopped us from trying. Ever since I received the first shot I have had problems with fertility. I do not get the cervical mucas anymore. This mucas keeps the sperm alive and helps them travel to the egg. I also had an ectopic pregnancy a year ago in April of 2007. I know that Kenalog has had something to do with both of these issues. I have been trying to get pregnant again for about 9 months with no sucess. My husband has been checked out so we know that it is not him. I have a son so I know that everything was fine before these shots. When I talk to my doctor about my problems they tell me it is not the Kenalog because it does not stay in your system for that long. I say that this is a steriod and you always here how bad they are and the horrible side effects. I know that this stuff is the reason that I cannot get pregnant and it is probably what caused the ectopic pregnancy that almost killed me.

I was given two Kenalog injections during the month of January 2008. My skin had been breaking out in eczema patches all over my body due to a side effect of a sinus infection that I had. My dermatologist gave me two rounds of Kenalog, two weeks apart from each other. The injections immediately cleared up the break outs I was having. Ever since the second shot, I have experienced irregular periods ( My menstrual cycle has always been very regular). The first cycle lasting 15days, which made me nervous. I went to my regular doctor and she said it was probably a side effect of the antibiotic I was given.
My menstrual cycle has been highly irregular. The month of February my cycle ran for 10 days, then stopped for three, started again for another 10days. And now rotates almost every other day. Along with the irregular periods I experience headaches on a regular basis, nausea, anxiety, and I am often feeling lethargic due to the fact that I am probably experiencing low iron.
I was never told the side effects, so I was feeling nervous until I found this website.

Well actually I did not know what was wrong with me until I googled(injection causing indentation and bruising 2 months later) that is where I came upon this web site!!! IN November I had a injection at my md office for back pain, it was really swollen and bruised. Also during this time all the sudden I did not have a period fro a month and a half!! I was freaked out, going to the emergency room having pregnancy tests blood work and ultrasounds, all coming up nothing....then all the sudden I'm having this non stop period for 22 days straight!! I made a obgyn apt and they could not figure anything out!!! Now I know what happened to me. I am a victim of this horrendous experience. If anyone has had answers from legal people please let me know!!

I have put my statement in before of the terrible side effects I have gone through with that kenalog shot. I left a number to help others as this doctor helped me. She may be located in WI, but she can also recommend a doctor in your state or location that performs the same skills she has. The number ****** She has even helped me to stop the pitting with a oil.
She is a D.C. who performs muscle tests. Her mentor is Dr.***, who goes around the world teaching Drs how to heal patients naturally.
I understand if your skeptical, but it worked for me. I want everyone else to be healed also and maybe we can fight against the Kenalog shot?
Also, my original back pain came back when the shot started to lessen in my system, she nutritionally helped my body stop the pain!

I had two cortisone shots in my foot for relief from plantar fascitis. My doctor never warned me of the side effects, nor told me the name of what I was getting (just "cortisone")! I've had THREE periods in ONE month! That is *very* unusual for me, so unusual that it scared me into researching the shots I'd been given. Guess what!? Kenalog...also known as "triamcinolone acetonide."

What's worse is that I'd had numerous (30-40) shots of the SAME STUFF in my scalp for psoriasis in between the time I had the shots in my foot...neither doctor bothered to ask me if I was currently taking anything else, or had any other injections, or at least tell me about the side effects!

I am pumped so full of this stuff that I am scared I'll never stop bleeding. Headaches, back pain, abdominal cramps, abnormal vaginal bleeding, and a yeast infection to top it all off!

BEWARE OF KENALOG!!

I was on Nasacort AQ for a nasal drip and then I had a series of Kenalog injections for hip, neck and back pain. They helped somewhat, but threw my glucose levels way up. I was usually in the 110 to 120 range (diabetic, diet controlled), but now it has spiked to 255 and 275. Does anyone know how long it will take to get this out of my system?

I have had dizziness, rapid heartbeat, headaches, intolerance of caffeine and alcohol even in small amounts.

Also, menstruation for over a month and exhaustion due to an epidural of kenalog to treat a herniated disk.

Has anyone had prolonged periods as a result of same and did you take progesterone to stop the period?

I am reluctant to take any more medicine as I usually prefer physical therapy and other natural means if at all possible but I am getting very drained as the days go on and I continue to menstruate. I have taken a blood test which shows "normal "ranges for everything although I am on the border line of anemia.

My back pain is better but had I known how poorly the cortisone would affect me I would never have chosen this procedure.

The doctor says that I just have to wait out the side effects.

I have been suffering for what is amost 2 months and I am anxious to return to a normal state so that I can regain some strength. I have been greatly weakened overall despite the moderate relief acheived for my back pain.

Beginning in October of 2004, I had a series of three injections of Kenalog in my left hip for back pain. The shots helped my pain tremendously, however, I had the most severe muscle cramping imaginable. I would get only two to three hours of sleep per night due to the cramping of various areas, such as my stomach, inner thigh close to the knee, ankles, toes etc. etc. etc. The cramping did subside within about four months. Recently I had another injection and of course the cramping is back. Thank you for all of these postings, I had no idea of the possible side effects and will NOT be getting another injection.

Epidural Steroid Injection of Kenalog. I asked about side effects and was assured it was a safe procedure. Within a few weeks I started suffering from pins and needles in hands and feet which progressed to severe burning pain over most of my body. I now live in constant pain (far worse than my original back pain) and have been told that I probably have Arachnoiditis as a direct result of Kenalog shot. Steroid injections in the back are at best only a quick fix and I would NEVER have had it had I known of the possible side effects. This injection has ruined my life.

I have diagnosed osteoarthritis, two joint replacements, looking at a third, and my knee hurt at time. Bad fall over a year ago led eventually to spine surgery with fushion of several vertebrae. Before fall I had some back pain and have had the shoulder pain for years(and now requires partical reaplacement). I was very active and relatively athletic doing agility with my dog. After fall and sugery for pinched nerves, I have never felt normal. Too much pain all over, fingers still numb, don't feel safe running with my dog. I suffered muscle degeneration due to the pinched nerves. Finally after numerous expensive test etc, rheumatologist suggested kenalog shot if I didn't feel better soon. Also tentative diagnosis of gout but my stomache could not handle pills for gout. So I got a shot of kenelog. - Super! I felt "normal" for the first time in over a year, didn't feel weak in knees, felt I could walk faster and further. Positive side effect was clearing my sinuus' and clearing up cough from phlem from sinus area. Got shot about 5 weeks ago and it has gradualy faded. I do not feel as painedl, but my activity level has decreased. I want another shot.

It's been about two months since the last of my three epidural injections. And, although all of my back pain and sciattica, related to my two herniated discs is gone, I am left with moon face, acne, irregular periods and a bloated stomach. One dr told me the symptoms would go away a few weeks after the last injection. They only seem to be getting worse. Any one else with a similar situation?

I had a series of 3 epidural injections of Kenalog for back pain. After the first one, I experienced increased blood pressure, hyper-irritability, insomnia. After the last one, my period was 2 weeks late and when it started, it was heavy. I have now been bleeding for 18 days. I have severe abdominal swelling and moon face. Medication doesn't seem to help any of these effects, including blood pressure. Anyone else have these problems?

40mg of kenolog injected in lower spine did not help the pain, but after the 2nd injection it prevented my body from retaining fluid for 3 or 4 days. This has been a chronic problem most of my life and I could not get the doctor to answer my phone calls or letter as to why. Has anyone else has this response which for me was a good one, even though I still have back pain.
