I just came across this site while searching online for photos that resembled what is happening to my body. I have matching large indentations above both butt cheeks, and after reading this I realize that they are in the same location where my dermatologist gave me "steroid" shots for poison ivy in Sept. of 2008. I have no idea if it was kenalog, but after reading this I'm afraid that's exactly what it was and will be calling his office on Monday to confirm. I too would like to know just how big these will get and if there is any way to correct them. It's all I can do to sit at my desk for 8 hours. I am in great discomfort, and very upset about the appearance of these large indentations.

I HATE Kenalog! I had the flu back in March of 08' and my doctor gave me a shot of Kenalog. Soon after I had a horrible period that was totally out of the blue which made my husband I think that I may have miscarried. Come to find out through my own research (not anything my doctor warned me about) that kenalog causes irregular periods, but for months I went through the pain of thinking my body had miscarried. On top of that horrible feeling, I have a HUGE dent on my left butt cheek. It started out small and is now huge with a blue bruise in the middle of it. I feel very embarrassed being nude, and very paranoid about clothing. I feel like everyone can see it. I went to my doctor and asked him about it and he said "it is normal, and will go away with time." BUT the nurse who injected the shot in the first place, came in after he left and asked to see the dent and then apologized with a look on her face that made me realize I will probably be sportin' this dent for the rest of my life. It all smells fishy to me. My doctor didn't mention one single word about a possible side effect. I would NEVER have had the injection. We trust our doctors to tell us side effects that may cause us emotional stress, and possible disfigurement for the rest of our lives. Has anyone had any luck with getting a lawyer involved. I want compensation. I want to try the saline injections and don't want to pay for the treatment. AND I want to STOP this from happening to other women. I know it might be vain and I know my husband loves me for who I am, but I am a woman and don't want the freakin' Grand Canyon on my butt cheek!!!!

I was given a 2 Kenalog shots in my lower back to treat a pain in my sacroiliac joint, which refers to the front of my leg/groin area. My doctor barely examined me, I was sent for no scans or other diagnostics. He said that the shots should bring down the swelling. They didn't work at all and yesterday, a couple of months later I felt a significant indentation on my back - precisely at the injection site (just where my lower back meets the top of my buttock). I have also suffered seven weeks with no period, coupled with nausea (thanks for the pregnancy scare!) then very heavy periods. I am a migraine sufferer and my migraines have increased in intensity. I also have constant, painful eczema, where before it was sporadic and light.
I am not sure how many side effects can be attributed to the injection - but the indentation at least is a definite. I live in the UK - I wondered if there are any other Brits here who have had the injection, or anyone generally who had it in the same place as me - I'm worried about what happens from hereon in. Can it affect my mobility? The original problem (still undiagnosed, but after a year of begging I am being sent to a hospital next week - to a Rheumatologist - is that even the correct field of expertise?) causes me huge amounts of pain anyway.
I also have a great number of the conditions the doctor is supposed to make sure that you don't have - why did he just "do it anyway?" In the UK it is difficult to bring any kind of action against a doctor >:-(
I'm relieved to find this board - best wishes to you all :-)

I also received a kenalog injection from a dermatologist for rashes that wouldn't go away. He told me ONLY that it would probably mess up my menstrual cycle. I thought "yeah sure that sounds great" I just wanted relief from all the itching. The rash did go away but i started to notice a dent where they gave me the injection. It has since gotten bigger and I am scared and wondering what is going on with me. My doctor never told me of atrophy or even that it was a possibility. I consulted with another doctor who told me he is not sure how this couldn't happened and that they probly injected in the wrong site. i now know after coming to this site that i am not alone and it is the kenalog that has caused me grief. Doctors need to be responsible in letting patients know every detail about the drug they are using on us. I was reassured by him that my only side affect would be irregular periods. Hopefully one day mine will go away but until the people need to be educated on certain steroids.

I have what looks like Cushing's Syndrome possibly brought on by the 2 injections I have had. I was also hospitalized with viral meningitis. I haven't been able to work or travel in more than a month and I am still home on the couch recovering. Can anyone help us get justice for this? I can't believe the Dr.'s are continuing to use this drug! Mine was given in the epidural space which is not recommended according to the drug label itself!
I have a list of symptoms 2 pages long including the irregular periods. After the second shot, given 4 weeks after the first, I had a 15 day period, and these strange, dark, periods are continuing on and off even today.
If anyone knows about web page design, maybe we can get enough of us together to contact an attorney and change some laws. This CANNOT continue! Enough of us have suffered the effects of this.

I got a shot in early January for a severe tonsillitis infection. I was so sick at the time, that I consented to the shot because I thought it would relieve the swelling. The doctor never mentioned any side effects. Unfortunately, the shot did not help at all. Even worse, I noticed a few months after I received the shot, that I had developed a dark indentation at the site of the shot, on my butt cheek. Since then, I have noticed that the dent has gotten bigger and uglier. I'm very upset about it. I went to a dermatologist/cosmetic surgeon, and she advised that I do nothing. She said it would fill in with time - 6 months to a year. We will see.....it doesn't seem to be getting any better.
The worst and most distressing side effect, is this month I had two periods, two weeks apart. I've never been on birth control, and my periods have always been very regular. I had been reading about this side effect a few months ago, and was relieved that at least my periods had not been affected.....well, I was wrong. 4 months after the shot, I've been affected. I had noticed in the past several months, that my periods had gotten shorter, lasting only 2-3 days as opposed to 3-5. They have also gotten lighter, except this most recent irregular period which was a bit heavier.
Along with the dent and irregular periods, I've been experiencing back aches, extreme fatigue and some nauseau - all symptoms which I've never experienced before. I'm a runner and in pretty decent shape and good health. Now I feel like my body has deteriorated due to one small but devastating shot!
I'm very upset and distressed about these side effects. I'm afraid of what other side effects I might not know about yet.
I contacted a lawyer that I found on this website, who is helping a client with these symptoms. I want to join a class action suit. This is unacceptable!

I too have a huge indentation in my back for about six months, and I've been worried that it was cancer or something. I have no insurance so never went to the doctor, but did call a nurse at the time, who said she had never heard of it and it didn't sound like anything to worry about. If she had actually seen it, she might have thought differently. I had an injection in the same spot last August, and never even correlated the two. After my son gasped in horror today when he saw it and insisted that I go to the doctor, I decided to Google "indentation by shoulder blade" and ran across this website. I immediately called a nurse and asked what injection I had received, and it was Kenalog and two other drugs. I asked if she had heard of this before and she said no, but that she would have the P.A. who administered it call me tomorrow. I'm so mad about this. I will not be able to wear the same clothes or dresses that I normally wear in the summer, because it is hideous and disgusting and huge. If anyone has spoken to a lawyer or if there is a lawsuit pending, please count me in! There must be something we can do, because this has obviously affected many people.

I was given two Kenalog injections during the month of January 2008. My skin had been breaking out in eczema patches all over my body due to a side effect of a sinus infection that I had. My dermatologist gave me two rounds of Kenalog, two weeks apart from each other. The injections immediately cleared up the break outs I was having. Ever since the second shot, I have experienced irregular periods ( My menstrual cycle has always been very regular). The first cycle lasting 15days, which made me nervous. I went to my regular doctor and she said it was probably a side effect of the antibiotic I was given.
My menstrual cycle has been highly irregular. The month of February my cycle ran for 10 days, then stopped for three, started again for another 10days. And now rotates almost every other day. Along with the irregular periods I experience headaches on a regular basis, nausea, anxiety, and I am often feeling lethargic due to the fact that I am probably experiencing low iron.
I was never told the side effects, so I was feeling nervous until I found this website.

I had a Kenalog injection in my left bum check in June 2007 to reduce hayfever symtoms. My menstrual periods are always regular - since the injection they have been VERY irregular, more days on than off. I also had a very heavy bleed which i thought was a miscarriage at the time (if it was a pregnancy then it would have been unplanned). I now think that my irregular periods and the heavy bleed are due to the Kenalog. I also have a mark at the site of the injection which is not fading - i think it will scar. When i went to my GP to complain about my irregular periods the GP dismissed me and said that i had an STD and sent me for a swab!!! I knew he was wrong and i felt very humiliated. My GP did not warn me about this side-effect of Kenalog, even though i asked about them. I have been told that the Kenalog will be in my body for 3 months - i only hope that things return to normal once it has left my system. I will never have it again.

I also had a reaction to a kenalog injection in my upper right buttocks area. I have a HUGE discolored indention that has not gone away. It has been a YEAR!! I also had irregular periods for three months with ultrasounds, etc. to make sure I was alright. My doctor did not think to ask me if I had had a steroid shot lately. I sure didn't tell her because I had no clue it was a side effect. I had the shot for severe allergies and was not warned of the side effects either! I am very against having another shot, even though it cured my severe allergies last spring. I look deformed!!

I have also suffered severe side effects from Kenalog injections. I had a series of 12-14 injections because of a gynogological ailment. I also asked the doctor. if there were any side effects, she said," no". I was getting the minimal amount of dosage ( 40 MG ). My cheeks started to swell puffy and redness, I was gaining weight and could not concentrate. When I asked her about these problems , she said, " it was not from the injections." I then got a second opinion, and was told to stop the injections immediately ( blood test were done) This doctor also works for the same hospital. The 2nd opinion doctor called my doctor before giving me the results; to warn my doctor. Who then called me and also told me to get more blood test done. Well because of these injections now I suffer from Endocrinogical problems and may possibly have Endo Carsinoma cancer, which the doctors are monitoriing. I suffer from hair loss from the scalp of my head, hair growth on body and face; which I didn't have before. I can die if there is to much stress in my system, hormonal imbalance, irregular periods, loss of muscle, skin tissue, pain and numbness in the areas that were injected, areas that I did not have a problems with before the injection were administrated. I almost lossed my job; for job abandonment. I could not wake up in the morning I would fall into to a deep sleep, or would feel lathargic, disoriented, hallucinations, peranoia, and depression. The worst part about this, is that I cannot sue the hospital because 1. I work for the company 2. The hospital is privately owned and you cannot sue a privately owned hospital, you can only have an arbitration. The most you can get from these cases is $25.000, and no attorney wants to fight the company because it's to expensive to get a outside 2nd opinion, or they just don't think the case is strong enough to win. I'm in a real (rut)! This has also affected my sexual desire (no desire). I am 36, and I am a single parent with all these physical ailments.
Can anyone help ??????

I had a Kenalog shot for my C-Section scar/keloid. I asked my OBGYN are there any side effects to this shot, he replyed absolutely "no side effects whatsoever". Since the shot I have not stopped bleeding, everyday for almost 2 months now. Also I was rushed to emergency for projectile vomiting black vomite which turned out to be blood.(I also collapsed, right after the Kenalog shot and a nurse wheelchaired me to my mom's car). Anyway I the most scary thing is the vomiting blood, which has been in my stomach since the Kenalog shot. After seeing dozens of doctors, I read the microscopic print on the drug (which was never disclosed at the time I had the shot) Kenalog creates Peptic Ulcers and Gastrointestinal Bleeding in addition to the irregular periods. Anyone with me for a class action lawsuit to stop this drug from hurting and in some cases killing people?

I had the Kenalog injection 40mg about 3 months ago and yes I am having irregular periods that have been stop and go since the injection. I have had several tests run with the OB/GYN and so far all have come back normal. I am still waiting on the biopsy but she feels that will be normal also. I also have the dent at the injection site. I had received an email from a woman that had the Kenalog injection and she stated her periods were irregular for 8 months. My husband and I are trying to conceive our first child and now we are unable to, do to my side effect from the Kenalog shot. I am never getting this shot again and I also feel women should be warned of this side effect. I would like to know what other women are doing about there irregular periods. What steps are you taking to stop the irregular periods? Thanks

My Girlfriends' Dr. suggested she get this shot. After reading everything I've read I'm not sure if this is the correct thing for her do to(She asked me to research it for her)... Heres the situation, She was in a pretty bad car wreck at the end of March and a mild wreck at the end of June she has been taking skelaxin for theinjuries to her back and shoulders. She was at Doc. today for a follow up and her neck and upperback was extremely swollen. She has irregular periods already possibly from other medication and doesnt take birth control anymore. Shes slighty overwheight and takes xanax and Effexir(SP?) with the meds shes already on and everything else is there any thing positive about this? We would like to have kids in the future and I'm worried that this shot could have all kinds of adverse affects on her now and down the road....Any suggestions on what she needs to do? The Dr. made it sounds like a cure-all but now I'm not so sure...
Thanks

I was in an auto accident end of October 2005. I have neck and back injuries. I have had 4 injections in 3 months ( 2 for the neck and 2 for the back). I had irregular periods. After first injection, I had a period next day which lasted for 3 days. I was not due until 10 days later which is when I did get my period again. After the other injections same deal, period too early and then again when scheduled. After last injection end of June, I did not get my period. Last cycle was June 13. It is now almost August. I had blood test to check testosterone level and it was normal. Still waiting on rest of test. I started to grow hair on face, neck, back, chest and arms more than supposed to for a woman in her 30s. I was diagnosed with a slight case of hirsutism. I am trying to get to the bottom of what is messed up in my body to correct it- the hair growth and missed period. I did not know there were side effects and Dr. said I am the first person in 14 years to make that complaint. My fiance' was in the accident with me and has had 2 shots and he has experienced increase growth of hair (at least he can shave it) and his testosterone level is low. Now he needs to see and endocrinologist. I have to see my OB/GYN to try to resolve this. My cycles were normal before this procedure. Sure it helped to take away some of the pain but now the pain is coming back. I am not having anymore injections and it looks as if I have to have surgery on my back, shoulder and neck. It helped one thing temporarily but has left me with new problems to face when I had enough on my plate. Also, I agree with Guest who posted the short term memory. I have had problems with that since the accident and primarily notice it since the injections. I seem to reverse letters at times when typing. I did not have this before. Here are some side effects from a website I found online.

In reference to #14133 I want to add more symptoms that I have experienced. On my right hip area where the injection was given turned purple with a noticable indention then it turned white. I have also experienced pain in my joints mainly in my hip and knee area. I have had other symptoms like hair loss & irregular periods. I was not told of any symptoms when the injection was given. When I went back to the facility that gave me the injection they said nothing could be done about the indention. I feel that something should be done about this. I am telling my freinds, family, co-workers what Kenalog can do to you. THANKS FOR THIS SITE.

I always had very irregular periods, sometimes 4-6 months without one. I had a Kenalog injection for a very simple allergy attack. Probably would have run its course in just a few days. My doctor told me that the only side effect was a indentation in injection site, very slim chance. My doctor new I have irregular periods. I have now on my 6th WEEK of bleeding heavy with no end in sight. I will never take a Kenalog injection AGAIN.

I started suffering from hay fever the summer between my jr. and senior high school year; I am now 48. When I was about 20 my cousin referred me to his doctor for a Kenalog shot for the hayfever. For several years I took at least one, sometimes two shots in the fall. I never had any problems that I couldn't live with...the only thing I noticed was irregular monthly cycle (especially the years I had 2 shots) for several months following and loss of smell. However, for anyone who suffers from hayfever, irregular periods and not being able to smell are gladly sacrificed for the relief Kenalog provided. I never experienced the dents or other problems I've read about.
As I got older I've "outgrown" hayfever. I'm really glad as my original doctor died and it became difficult to find a doctor who would administer the injection. I'd hate to still be suffering from the sneezing, watery eyes, etc. I do notice my skin is much more sensitive to plants and grasses now.
Two of my children developed hay fever about the same time as I. I'm ready to tell me son to ask the PCP about Kenalog but after reading other people's experiences, am reluctant. As my daughter is pregnant, I won't say anything to her.
OK, I'll stop.

I received a Kenalog shot last Oct and again in Feb 04. I did not know about any side effects until I discovered this site, but looking back I now know what may be the cause of my irregular periods. I have had 2 periods a month for the 3 mos following the shots with heavy bleeding. I never connected this problem to the shots. In January, my normal period reumed, but now that I just had another shot, I am afraid I am in for another 2 periods a month. Although I took the shots for my allergies and it helps considerably, I have to now weigh the odds to see if I want to consider future injections.

It's been about two months since the last of my three epidural injections. And, although all of my back pain and sciattica, related to my two herniated discs is gone, I am left with moon face, acne, irregular periods and a bloated stomach. One dr told me the symptoms would go away a few weeks after the last injection. They only seem to be getting worse. Any one else with a similar situation?

I had the shot for a bad outbreak of eczema. This was a last resort thing. I'm not usually for taking any form of medicine other than natural stuff. The doctor warned that the possible side effects would be muscle spams and high blood sugar. She never mention anything about irregular periods or weaken immune system. I just had my period 15 days before I had the shot and a couple days after the shot I got my period. I few days later I got the stomach flu. While still having my period. Then a week later I had a ear infection. I still have my period. I emailed the dermatologist explaining the symptoms I was having, she informed me that its a side effect of the shot. She failed to mention it before taking the shot. I don't want to take another drug like birth control pills to cure something a drug caused in the first place. I'm now on day 17. My period has never been irregular. I'm a healthy 30yr old. Does anyone know if this goes away on its on? What are things you can do to naturally cure this? I appreciate any advice.
