Kenalog needs to be sued! I had the flu back in November of 07' and my internist had her nurse give me a shot of Kenalog. Come to find out through my own research (not anything my doctor warned me about) that kenalog causes all kinds of hormonal irregularities. On top of that horrible feeling, I have a HUGE dent on my left butt cheek. It started out small and is now huge with lighter colored skin tissue deep (1.5 ") in the middle of it. I feel very embarrassed being nude, and very paranoid about clothing. I know it is very visible in a bikini and under A-line fitting clothing. I went to my doctor and asked her about it and she said "it is normal, and that was one of the side effects." BUT the nurse who injected the shot did not say a word about any side effects when she saw the dent nor did she admit to any error of the injection. The Dr. said I will now have this crater/dent for the rest of my life. It all smells fishy to me. My doctor didn't mention one single word about a possible side effect. I would NEVER have had the injection. We trust our doctors to tell us side effects that may cause us emotional stress, and possible disfigurement for the rest of our lives. Has anyone had any luck with getting a lawyer involved. I want compensation. I want to try the saline injections and don't want to pay for the treatment. AND I want to STOP this from happening to other women. This is not a vain issue. It is an outright disfigurement/deformaty.

I HATE Kenalog! I had the flu back in March of 08' and my doctor gave me a shot of Kenalog. Soon after I had a horrible period that was totally out of the blue which made my husband I think that I may have miscarried. Come to find out through my own research (not anything my doctor warned me about) that kenalog causes irregular periods, but for months I went through the pain of thinking my body had miscarried. On top of that horrible feeling, I have a HUGE dent on my left butt cheek. It started out small and is now huge with a blue bruise in the middle of it. I feel very embarrassed being nude, and very paranoid about clothing. I feel like everyone can see it. I went to my doctor and asked him about it and he said "it is normal, and will go away with time." BUT the nurse who injected the shot in the first place, came in after he left and asked to see the dent and then apologized with a look on her face that made me realize I will probably be sportin' this dent for the rest of my life. I know it might be vain and I know my husband loves me for who I am, but I am a woman and don't want the freakin' Grand Canyon on my butt cheek!!!!

I can't believe what I am reading! I have been a competitive runner for over 25 years, and in the past two years I started running mainly trail ultras - races up to 70 miles. This March my husband noticed a huge dent in my left glute muscle that over the course of four races got worse and led to a secondary dent in my hip area. I just assumed I had injured my muscle somehow, but no amount of rest, PT, or stretching has helped.(it's been 6 months now) I developed hip bursitis, medium to severe pain in all my joints, including both knees, my left ankle, and extreme spinal stiffness.

None of the experienced PTs I've been to have seen anything like my dent, and they are baffled by my worsening condition. I'm so scared I'll have to give up running altogether, as my joints are failing me. My PT has advised me to go to my regular doctor to get bloodwork, X-rays, an MRI & all tests done to see if something is wrong with me that is beyond muscle-skeletal. Before all of this, I had low back issues but no joint issues at all.

I found this web site by chance, and suddenly I remembered that several months before noticing the dent, I received 2 steroid injections in my butt, as well as pills & cream for a super severe case of poison oak that covered my whole body and face. Do you think my doctor will tell me if it was Kenalog if I ask?

I, too, am very very interested in any other stories of severe joint pain and inability to run especially after receiving these shots. I hope we can help each other figure this out & get answers.

I had posted my case on May 17th on this blog--as I noted, I URGE others to report their adverse event to the FDA--just click on this link and complete the form: http://www.fda.gov/medwatch/. The FDA is responsible for assuring safety of medications. Therefore, it is imperative that the FDA recognize the adverse effects to provide any credibility to a class action suit. Please consider forwarding your case to the FDA to force them into action and begin addressing these atrocities. Such documented cases and recognition by the FDA will provide leverage for attorneys in pursuit of a class action suit. Also wanted to see if anyone has contacted a lawyer on this issue?

I got a shot in early January for a severe tonsillitis infection. I was so sick at the time, that I consented to the shot because I thought it would relieve the swelling. The doctor never mentioned any side effects. Unfortunately, the shot did not help at all. Even worse, I noticed a few months after I received the shot, that I had developed a dark indentation at the site of the shot, on my butt cheek. Since then, I have noticed that the dent has gotten bigger and uglier. I'm very upset about it. I went to a dermatologist/cosmetic surgeon, and she advised that I do nothing. She said it would fill in with time - 6 months to a year. We will see.....it doesn't seem to be getting any better.

The worst and most distressing side effect, is this month I had two periods, two weeks apart. I've never been on birth control, and my periods have always been very regular. I had been reading about this side effect a few months ago, and was relieved that at least my periods had not been affected.....well, I was wrong. 4 months after the shot, I've been affected. I had noticed in the past several months, that my periods had gotten shorter, lasting only 2-3 days as opposed to 3-5. They have also gotten lighter, except this most recent irregular period which was a bit heavier.

Along with the dent and irregular periods, I've been experiencing back aches, extreme fatigue and some nauseau - all symptoms which I've never experienced before. I'm a runner and in pretty decent shape and good health. Now I feel like my body has deteriorated due to one small but devastating shot!

I'm very upset and distressed about these side effects. I'm afraid of what other side effects I might not know about yet.

I contacted a lawyer that I found on this website, who is helping a client with these symptoms. I want to join a class action suit. This is unacceptable!

I too have a huge indentation in my back for about six months, and I've been worried that it was cancer or something. I have no insurance so never went to the doctor, but did call a nurse at the time, who said she had never heard of it and it didn't sound like anything to worry about. If she had actually seen it, she might have thought differently. I had an injection in the same spot last August, and never even correlated the two. After my son gasped in horror today when he saw it and insisted that I go to the doctor, I decided to Google "indentation by shoulder blade" and ran across this website. I immediately called a nurse and asked what injection I had received, and it was Kenalog and two other drugs. I asked if she had heard of this before and she said no, but that she would have the P.A. who administered it call me tomorrow. I'm so mad about this. I will not be able to wear the same clothes or dresses that I normally wear in the summer, because it is hideous and disgusting and huge. If anyone has spoken to a lawyer or if there is a lawsuit pending, please count me in! There must be something we can do, because this has obviously affected many people.

I HAVE ONE MORE QUESTION AND THIS IS FOR EVERYONE THAT TRIED TO FILE A LAWSUIT SO FAR...DID YOU ALL SIGN A CONSENT TO HAVE THE INJECTION DONE? THEY ARE SUPPOSED TO HAVE YOU SIGN SOMETHING AND THAT IS WHAT COVERS THERE BUTT...IS THERE ANYONE THAT DID NOT SIGN ONE AND STILL GOT TURNED AWAY BY A LAWYER? BECAUSE I DIDN'T SIGN...

Hello everyone,

Just like all of you, I too googled this strange indentation in my left buttocks and found this site. I suspected when it first showed up that it may have something to do with a shot from my Dr. because the indentation was strangely in the same spot as my last shot. I have received several Kenalog shots over the past couple years for chest congestion and sinus related symptoms that typically drive me to calling my family practice doctor. Although he regularly administers Kenalog, I have had know reason to doubt his treatment as my history with him has been relatively good. However, he is not the one administering the shots, his young nurse it the one (less than a year out of school). Anyway, I too, like many of you am going to look into a class action lawsuit and/or my own legal counsel. If there is anyone out there who has gotten any positive feedback from a lawyer willing to take this on, please contact me for testimonial. This is not flattering and moreover, after reading the many previous entries, I am downright scared. Also, please advise is there is any known treatment to help reduce further reduction of tissue in this area. Thank you very much for reading and for the continued entries after this one.

Curious what to do about this Depressing problem......
I too am going through what everyone else is explaining. On September 25, 2007 I was given an 80MG Kenalog shot in the right buttocks, for what the doctor thought was an allergy. I now have a huge crater in my rear where the kenalog shot was injected. It doesn't seem to be getting any better either. I was wondering if there was a class action lawsuit on this or NOT??? Or if anyone has contacted a lawyer, and what the lawyer might have told them to do? If someone would please contact me the help would be greatly appreciated.

I've had a "dent" for about four years now, and had no idea what it was until now. I'm relieved to find out that it isn't anything like cancer.....but will it ever go away? Are there any known treatments or cures?
I'm very upset that my doctor gave me no warning of side effects of the Kenalog shot. I was only told that it would aid in my relief from allergies. I have now received the shot for five years in a row, and have two "dents" on either side of my lower back. Any advice on legal action?????

I to have a huge dent in my right butt cheek. I would be interested in a class action suit. This is ridiculous! It has been about three months since I received the shot. Has anyone noticed their dents getting better with time?

Hello`!
What you are all describing is exactly what is happening to me.
It started out as a small dent in my buttocks, and now it is growing.
I would certainly love to join a class action lawsuit, this must be stopped, and information should be given as to the side effects before administering this injection.
Please let me know if anyone has contacted a lawyer.
Jennifer

I had the shot mid August 07 for a case of poison ivy. At first nothing seemed wrong. A month later, I was still itchy, but not where I had poison ivy, on my scalp, elbows, and my right palm. My period was off by two weeks, but nothing like a 4 week period. Yesterday I had severe aching in my left quad and hamstring area, though I haven't done anything strenuous lately. Tonight I noticed the huge (maybe two inches long, not really round, but sort of like a finger was pressed into my skin) indentation and got really scared.

Just as so many others have posted, I was not warned of the risks of receiving this shot. I am a little scared about the indentation continuing to grow. I can't believe so many people have been adversely effected and so many doctors downplay it as just one shot. I feel like I've been duped and conned. I will definitely tell all of my family and friends never to try this snake oil.
What can we do? Has anyone contacted a lawyer for a class action?

My son is 7 and has severe eczema. I took him to the dermatologist for treatment. The creams were not working so I asked about a cortisone shot. The doctor didn't tell me the side effects he just said they would give him half a dose and he would be fine. He had it done in October 07 and it's December 4 07. Just tonight as he was getting his pj's on I noticed a large indent on his right hip area.I thought it was a bruise, but when I got close it was discolored like grey and totally indented.I'm so upset that I'm sick to my stomach especially after reading everyones stories. He's seven with this on his body that will probably never go away. The shot cleared the really bad spots, but he's had a rash ever since he got the shot. I wish there was a lawyer that would do something. I was not warned ahead of time or else I would have never had him get it.

Not good news. The attorney who was handling my case against the clinic and the nurse called today to say that we'd have to drop the case for lack of evidence. Absolutely incredible! I had the shot about 2 years ago, and the indentation is still horrible looking and painful. It has filled in to a small degree, but is still discolored and very noticeable.
Because it was used for a purpose that is indicated in the drug literature (allergies), the shot was generally in the right area (gluteal) and we can't prove what needle was used or how deep it was injected, I'm screwed. Even though I was given 80mg...too bad!
I hate to be a Debbie Downer, but it looks like it'll be really tough to win this type of case. Bastards!

I have used topical triamcinolone (kenalog) for many years for treating mild psoriasis and about 2 years ago I started to notice an indentation on my left buttocks. About 6 months later it filled out again but then appeared on my right buttocks and has not gone away. I went to my primary physician to inquire about it and she could not tell me what was wrong. While surfing the internet to research this, which really bothers me, I found this site and I am in utter shock to say the least! Those of you with this side effect, I feel your pain! And who knows what other side effects are lurking around the corner for us? Is there a LAWYER IN THE HOUSE?

I had the shot in my right glute in April of 2006 and I have a hole the size of a lime in my hip now. For all those that have had this happen how long does it take to stop it from eating tissue away. It is still getting bigger every month and has yet to stop. The doctors say that this is the first time they have seen this and others at the office had the same drug injected and having the same problem but not as severe as mine. I never was told that this could be a side effect and I would never have had this shot given to me. I am a 21 year old and have a huge hole in my hip, not right. Please if anyone has any info, let me know when I could expect it to stop eating my hip away.

I received a Kenalog injection on my face on September 19, 2006. Since then my life has become a living hell. Tbis was to relieve the inflammation from a cyst. Hah!! I have severe redness and burning on my face and it hurts to this day. Every cream and even prednisone failed to take this away. I saw a plastic surgeon yesterday, who said the effects may be permanent. This includes changes in pigmentation (which I've noticed), slow healing, etc. I suffered a severe depression and had to go on short term disability from work. The surgeion has recommened IPL as a way to treat the redness. I'm going to try to get a lawyer. This injection was given by an incompetent PA who never warned me of any of the side effects. Does anyone know of ANYTHING that can reduce the redness and burning? I'm desperate.

I received 10 Kenalog injections on 9/15 in my scalp to help with hair loss. I am 34; the doctor biopsied and said I had scarring alopecia. I asked about cortisone shots and she elected to give me a series to see if it would help. The shots were painful, of course. But I'd read that steroid therapy can help regrow hair, so I remained hopeful. On my return visit a couple of months later, I pointed out the dent to her, and she said it would fill in in a few months. She gave me a 2nd shot of Kenalog in my left buttock.

I got home that night and looked up the drug and its side effects. I found this board. I cried all night.

It's 3 months later and I have one huge, tender indentation in my scalp--it is BALD; how ironic as there was hair there pre-Kenalog. I also have several less deep dents in my scalp. I've also had the yeast infection, but so far I have yet to develop an indentation or discoloration in my buttock. I am wondering if I should see a lawyer because I was not informed of the risks of this drug. And apparently rather than improving the situation it was prescribed for, it made it worse.

Sigh.

I went and saw a lawyer today because my Dr gave me a kenalog shot in my arm and now I have a huge indent. This shot is supposed to be given in the butt because it's a larger muscle. My lawyer told me that the only reason I have a case is becasue she gave it in my arm. An ident is a side effect so if the shot was administered correctly (ie in the butt) then it will be very hard to win a lawsuit. I'm seeing a plastic surgeon on tuesday to see what it will take to get this fixed. I'm not going to wait for a lawsuit to fix this. She said it could take years to win a case. :( anyway.....I just wanted to let everyone know what the lawyer said.

I'm a 36 y/o female battling the side effects from Kenalog. I developed Cushing Syndrom (moon face, hump on back, easily brusing). I had my 1st shot in Dec 05 and 2nd Jan 06. I bleed heavily for three months straght. I still have the moon face and this horrible hump on my back. I ended up having to get a hysorectomy. I plan on getting a lawyer, but the Doctors I spoke with never heard of these effects with a shot. The more support I have the better chance I have. I'm constantly depressed looking this fat. Plus I gain 20 lbs in 1 month. This drug sux and I would never recomend it to anyone.

I had a kenalog shot into my right buttocks on 12/09/2005 and now have an indentation in my buttocks at the injection site. I take great care of my body as I work out intensely five to six days a week. My boyfriend first noticed he indentation over a month ago however I didnt think anything of it until it began growing. I am going to my GP today to inquire about it as this will leave me severly depressed if this is permanent due to the fact that I am knwon to have a nice, round, muscular butt. I will wait to see what the GP says then most liely get a 2nd opinion and then if needed seek legal services. I am 31 y/o female in NJ. if anyone has any recomendations on another doctor to see and/or lawyer who specializes in medical malpractice please let me know. This is real sad as I only received one injection with no instructions on side effects for allergies, etc. I did not find any relief from the injection and am now left with a dimple in my butt. I also have pain and tendeness to that area.

Paralyzed diaphragm after kenalog injection=January 2005 I woke up after sleeping crooked on my couch with a stiff neck. After 5 days the neck spasm was still there so I went to Urgent Care and got a Kenalog 40 with Marcaine shot at the base of my neck.My neck felt better but I noticed my breathing was labored.(I am a swim instructor and am VERY aware of my breathing)After seeing a Pulmonologist and having EVERY diagnostic test done, there was no other explanation for the paralysis.Pulmonologist blamed it on the shot also said could be "idiopathic". The phrenic nerve(which controls diaphragm) runs from the neck down to the diaphragm. Lawyer said he couldn't find enough cases/examples to justify this as a case. The uncanny timingAND location of the kenalog shot with my paralysis is very freaky.Has this happened to anyone? Thank you for reading this.

My heart goes out to everyone who has been left with severe indentations from fat atrophy due to Kenalog injections. I was left with a golfball sized, deep indentation on my left hip from two Kenalog injections given one year apart, in the exact same place. It did not fill in by itself like doctors kept telling me it might. The good news is that I found an attorney to represent me against the doctor who did this (actually an assistant did it under the doctor's care), as well as a filler substance called Sculptra that has helped tremendously. Sculptra is a filler substance that has been used in Europe (where it's called New Fill) for about seven years and in the USA exclusively for AIDS patients with fat atrophy in their faces for a few years now. It was recently approved by the FDA (I think in summer 2004) for use in cases such as mine, as well as for minor cosmetic reasons, like how Collagen has been used. Sculptra lasts longer than Collagen, possibly up to two years I'm told. It works by stimulating your body's collagen growth wherever it is injected. I had one fill procedure with it in April 2005, and within three months my concavity has been reduced by fifty percent. It takes a couple months for the collagen growth to take place. The doctor said I had an unusually good response from it, and that it works differently from person to person. It may take several sessions to fill an area. I just had another fill procedure a couple days ago which I hope will be all I'll need to keep the area filled for a couple years, but since it behaves differently in every person, only time will tell. I know that I will have to keep having it filled for the rest of my life, but it beats not having anything to fill it with. As far as the legal side goes, I believe there is a two year statute of limitations on filing a claim against a doctor, and I hate to say it, but I think that's why so many doctors keep telling victims of this to keep waiting - that it will fill in by itself. If you wait long enough, you won't be able to take legal action against them! When the statute starts running is something doctors and lawyers will argue about, but it can be when you were injected with it, when you first noticed the indentation, or when you noticed the indentation was not going away. But I think it's worth checking into for anyone who has been damaged. Even if you can't take legal action, this new filler substance is helpful. It works in the face too - it's been used in AIDS patients' faces for years now. I hope this helps some of you. Good luck.
