I posted a few months ago about the terrible side effects I had by taking Levaquin and Cipro on two different occasions for prostate infections. I have been off these antibiotics for almost a year now, and the good news is that I am almost back to normal. At one time I could barely walk, but now I can walk for 3 miles with no problems. I had gone to 9 different doctors and none of them had a clue that it was the antibiotics causing my problems. Luckily, I contacted a very intelligent medical resident at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta that immediately knew that I was having severe reactions to the Levaquin, and that Cipro had caused similar problems for me a few months earlier. A Pharmacist at Emory University also agreed that the antibiotics had terrible side effects for some people. After months, the pain has finally gone away.

I read where Senator Robert Byrd had been hospitalized for reactions to antibiotics he was taking for an urinary tract infection. I'll bet his doctors gave him Cipro or Levaquin. Has anyone heard what medications he was taking? Just Curious????

My father has always been level-headed and NOT ever prone to hallucinations. He is a rational and
He is in the hospital and for 4 days they have had him on this drug. . After a few days on it, he started seeing things that don't exist. He can be lucid one moment and then anxious and paranoid the next. He slips in and out of this irrational behavior. He becomes filled with fear that he is being abandoned by us and in an unknown place. He sees people and things that don't exist. He sweats and
trembles. We are very worried. Aren't there other antibiotics available? We are complaining, but hospital tries to pretend they have no clue as to these side effects.
NOW, After reading more about this dangerous and mind-altering drug, we believe that it needs to be withdrawn from the market and further tested. We are going through hell and my poor father is extremely confused and getting worse. We fear what will happen next. What can we do to get the hospital to withdraw this drug from him while at the ssame time continue to meet his needs? before this drug was administered, he was mentally stable. To clear an infection (pneumonia, which started in the hospital) do we need to sit by and watch an intelligent man become extremely disoriented, shakey, panicked and progressively becoming delusional???

Hi, my name is Pete I also was prescribed LEVAQUIN 750 mg on 2/5/07 I only took one pill . I stop taking it for it made me hallucinate & confused. I went back to my DR I told him about the side affects that I had encountered but he said that it should have not done this ; but of course the dr's do not have any clue of what this is doing to people this is why we need to post this information so that no one else will go thru what everyone that has taken this antibotic ( evil pill ). I have been off of it for 26 days & still get some anxiety attacks. I do say get your family & friends to support you during this painful time. My wife was told by a nurse that it would take 21 days for it to flush out of my system but I am still on other antibiotics. me and my family pray for each person who taken this ugly medicine.KEEP YOUR FAITH AND HOPE IN GOD!

I was taking Levaquin for fluid in my lungs. I experienced extreme pain and swelling in my achilles tendon. I stopped taking the pill but 3 weeks later, I still have pain and swelling from my achilles tendon. The doctor has no clue what to do about it.

"Levaquin was not the cause of my pain symptoms. "
I saw my doctor (a rare good doc) who after a full exam said Levaquin was not the cause of my pain symptoms.

I stongly suggest that your physician take another look at the PDR for levaquin. Such pain as you are describing is also an adverse drug reaction to this drug. I am not saying the levaquin is to blame but the odds are very good that it is. Very few, if any phsicians even have a clue as to the damage that fluoroquinolones can and will do to a subset of those prescribed and dismiss such concerns out of hand stating "it cannot be the drug" when in fact it is. Within this class of antibiotic more than 50% have been removed from clinical use due to toxicity issues. Spontaneous tendon rupture has been reported since 1982, and more recently pheripheal nueropathy as well.
