Last 3 days iv taken benadryle capsules and drand a ton of water almost to the point of drowning myself. but i think it worked. also in th elast few days iv basicly said fuck it, whatever tried to ignore it and not think about it and i think its worked for me. I had a sore throat. The first doctor said mono. The 2nd doc. said no mono or strep --must be viral. Third doc says viral and puts me on predinsone, levaquin and darvocet because my uvula was swelling from infection. White count was elevated and had low grade fever. That was Friday..............................The Monday after that I had severe pains in my left side. After teaching went to ER they said gas after 2 minutes. Next day level 8 pain same side went back to ER. They said skeletal prescribed me 4 more drugs and told me it was viral too. Went to internist on Wednesday had to miss teaching he scheduled CT on Thursday morn. Level10 pain almost passed out on Thursday eve missed school/teaching. Friday admitted to ER at different hospital beyond any level of pain I have ever had, blood pressure through the roof, heart palp, they gave me morphine and phenagrin and muscle relaxer for spasms.
Here I am a perfect state of health get a sore throat and the next week I am in the hospital because of the 2nd ct saying that I am full of poo. 4 weeks later I am still in pain, missed 12 days of teaching and now they say i have ibs. I miss my active life before. I believe the combination of these drugs caused this. I am young no children and very healthy. Ultrasound,s blood works, 2 ct scans with dye, colonscopy, xrays show no probs. Which is great but still in pain. Anyone PLEASE HELP the doctors are taking their sweet time while I have lost weight and stay in bed which helps the pain. Bending over, lifting, eating, pooing, sneezing, coughing, hiccuping can make it worse. It is intense SHARP pain. I have cut out everything med wise except for Miralax and now I have diarrhea and joint pain.
They want me to take Dicyclomine and IMIPRAMINE, MIRALAX and Levisin sublingual and Diflucan.

I had a chronic cough which got worse and developped into bronchitis. My doctor gave me 10 days of 500 mg levaquin. Ten days later I went back, still coughing, even though the bronchitis was a bit better. He gave me another prescription for 7 days of levaquin with a refill.
A week or so into this routine, my legs started to hurt a lot. I thought I was just out of shape and needed to get back to the gym and do some stretching exercises. I could barely climb the stairs to the gym, but I must say that after working with the trainer and stretching a lot (and it hurt a lot) I was able to walk easier and the pain lifted quite a bit. . . for a while.
I also have developped total diarrhea, which made sense to me; because I was trying to kill bad bacteria in my system which I thought was causing the bronchitis.
Fortunately, last week I decided to go to another doctor because I wasn't getting better and I felt my old doctor was just overwhelmed by the health care system and was just going through the motions. This doctor, an ENT doctor, immediately diagnosed me with LPRD (acid reflux which goes all the way to the vocal chords, resulting in cough, tightness in the throat, etc.) I know he's right because I have felt the acid reflux thing at night when I have eaten late and had a couple of glasses of wine with dinner.
Tomorrow I'm heading to a gastro doc to attack the diarrhea, but I wondered if the leg pain had anything to do with the levaquin, since it came about after a week or so on the stuff. and lo and behold found all these postings which have now scared whatever shit I have left out of me!
I'm off to get some magnesium, as someone suggested and would appreciate any other tips anyone might have. My only tip is that stretching out your legs and butt muscles, does temporarily help a bit.

I started taking Levaquin on Thursday October 4 for a sinus/throat infection. 5 days later and I feel wired out of my mind. Strange thoughts, increased energy intertwined with panic, wrist/hip pain, very little sleep. Severe stomach pain, constipation, nausea and vomiting, gagging reflex. Also mouth sores, and terrible taste in mouth. This has me very concerned. I am grateful that this isn't my imagination. Thanks for this forum. Why is this drug still on the market. I was hospitalized on 1-3-2007 and was placed on levaquin via IV and continued til I was released on 1-12-2007. After I was released they placed me on 750 mg for another 5 days. I started to feel my heart beat really fast, slow down , then speed back up. It felt like my heart was coming through my chest. I didn't know why I was feeling like this because I was on so many meds during my stay in the hospital. But I remember feeling most of the symtoms immediately after they put the IV in. I couldn't sleep, very nervous, never comfortable, I would start to cry for no reason, lack of appetite. I decided to not take Levaquin on 1-16-07 to see how I would feel and I felt like my old self even though I'm healing form a hysterectomy, hemotoma and anemia. I was amazed at the sudden change in yhe way I felt. I will not be continuing Levaquin. Oh it also was interfering with my bowel. I know it's not the iron because the Dr. took me off of it because it causes constipation. If I were you I would not take this med., I think it should be removed before it kills someone.

Been taking lavaquin for maybe a week now.
The side effects are really bad for me. Nausea to the point of getting a watery mouth like I'm about to vomit. Stomach bloat, which makes me feel like I've eaten the largest meal in my life, even if it's just a slice of bread with peanut butter. Sleeplessness - I've been up until 4am wondering when I was going to go to sleep. Constipation - I'd like to know when my next bowel movement will happen.
Now please excuse me while I go lay down and hope my dinner stays in my stomach.

I must say that reading these postings has both frightened me and reassured me that I am not losing my mind! Levaquin has been only mildly helpful for my UTI, but the side effects have been most unpleasant: nausea, constipation, gas, and insomnia. I unfortunately took my first dose in the early evening since I had just picked up the prescription that afternoon, and kept taking it at that time of day. It took me a few days to realize that I wasn't just having a sporadic bad night, but that the medication was making me very restless and unable to sleep. I have been taking Ambien to help me soldier through, but the postings on this site have led me to believe that I'd be better off taking the medication. Thanks to all of you for sharing so that folks like me better understand what they're going through!

15 Oct, 2003- I was on Levaquin for an ear infection in July with no memorable side effects. I now have an upper respiratory and sinus infection and the Dr. put me on it again. Last night was my first dose of 500mg. I was motivated to look into possible side effects after having the WORST night of my life in terms of sleeplessness. Absolutely horrific night where I near slept a wink. I suffered from hot spells, bed sweats (I have no fever), dry mouth, thirst, constipation (today), anxiety and yet my body is exhausted and I feel like the ENERGIZER bunny that wants to 'keep on going". I felt depression and like crying all day, I have anxiety and dizziness. I did not attribute these effects to the drug until I felt so miserable, it motivated me to look into it on this web site. Absolutely amazing that others of you have had the same experience. If you are trying to get better and cure an infection, DO NOT TAKE THIS DRUG. I asked the doc for Zythromax and he said this one is better. I have taken Z-Pak before with NO problems..............now tell me who knows best- DEFINATELY NOT MY DOCTOR!!!!

I came off levaquin a week ago. I had taken the drug for 30 days and was given a second thirty day perscription at completion. I felt that many of the side effects were symptoms of my illness (prostatitis). A week had lapsed between both perscrtiptions. I noticed the symptoms ease during the gap. Once I started the new perscription I felt neasious, constipation, feverous with no fever, sharp random muscle pain, tightening of neck muscles, tension headahces, anxiety and depression. Although, these syptoms are not as sever as they were when I was taking Levaquin, I still have them at various times throughout the day. Is there any relief? How long will it continue?

I have some of everything above and am in so much pain that I feel as if I am dying a slow, painful death. I am on heavy pain meds and even with those I have severe abdominal cramping. I don't know what I would do if I didn't have this pain relief. I am very worried as to what is happening to me internally. They are scheduling cat scans and I am awaiting a phone call to get something diagnostic done. This all started 8/15 and not only are things not easing up, but I think this is getting worse. I also have a urethral discharge, UTI, and alternating constipation and diarrhea. Initially, I had a 102 degree fever and now my temp is low, only 97.1! my husband plans on calling a lawyer today, 8/26. One day I passed brown urine and it shocked me! I'd appreciate hearing from others as I feel so alone in this horrible nightmare which is unfolding! FYI, my doctor feels that my muscle tissue is breaking down...has anyone heard anything like this from their doctor? The stomach and abdominal pains are like labor!
