Levaquin and friday night

I started taking Levaquin on Friday evening at 8:00 p.m. because I had a urinerary infection. I attempted to go to bed on Friday night at around 11:00 p.m. and I started to twist and turn and become very restless. It was as if I had coffee before I went to bed and, of course, I did not. It was now 4:00 a.m. and I was still wide awake. The next day I took the pill at 2:00 p.m. hoping by taking it earlier in the day I wouldn't have a problem sleeping. Thank goodness I had no problem sleeping that night. I slept straight through the night. The 3rd day I took the pill at 8:00 p.m. again and again I had insomnia. Did you ever hear of someone having insomnia from Levaquin? Please advise.

Recently I was prescribed 500 MG of Levaquin daily for a bacterial infection. I took only ONE pill Friday night and the next morning my right ankle would not work. I could not walk and had extreme pain! I had not injured or strained my ankle...had never had any other problems with walking or joint pain. I called the on-call physician who said to go to an Urgent Care or an Emergency ward...(You can die in those places....very slowly LOL) I stopped the pills and the next day my ankle was fine. My Doctor switched me to Ceftin. The first doctor said it could NOT be the levaquin but my physician said it was a tendenitis caused by the levaquin and I should stay away from that "class" of antibiotics.

I went to the doctor fighting fatigue, weight loss/gain and increased sweating. All the blood work has come back OK for hormones, thyroid, etc. I was sent to an internal medicine doctor who is now checking for mono, etc. but is at a loss as to what the problem is. Becuase my breast bone is tender and I had a small cold prior to noticing the increased fatigue, I was prescribed Levaquin to take care of any viral activity that may be causing my symptoms. I took the first pill Friday night at 6:00 with dinner. By bedtime (11:00) I was noticing an pain in my chest. Not real sharp just noticeable and distinct, almost more like a tightening of my chest. I slept well and have noticed them again this morning (Sat.) After talking with my pharmacist and the on-call doctor, I will cease to take any more pills (I only had a five day course 500mg - 1 pill per day to take to begin with) and will be calling the internal medicine doctor on Monday.

I started taking Levaquin on July 8 to treat sinusitis. I am a 35 year old woman with Systemic Lupus. Immediately I began to feel dizzy, confused, lethargic. I thought that my body just needed to adjust to the medication. I had insomnia on Friday night, July 11 - literally no sleep at all. Then on Sunday night, July 13, I awoke with severe intestinal cramping, diahrea, sweats, almost blacked out, scared my husband half to death. I really thought I was going to die. Scared me, big time. I had the severe cramping all through the night and couldn't get comfortable. At about 5:30, right after my husband left for work, I had severe bloody diahrea - lots of blood. I freaked out. Also having lupus, I wasn't sure what the deal was. I had another very bloody stool at about 7:00 the same morning. Went to the doctor and she said it is most likely caused by the levaquin. I am hoping that the test she did for toxicity will come back that it is indeed the levaquin that is causing this and not my lupus. It's very frustrating. How can they make a drug with these types of side effects and market it to the public? Scary. I just wanted people to know how it affected me. Be very careful before taking this drug.
