Levaquin and mood swings

I too was given 20 days of 750 mg each of Levaquin and felt a pop in my shoulder while rolling over in bed and not have intense pain there which is probably my rotator cuff tear. But I also experience the most crippling intense pain to both my knees and lower back. My knees felt swollen and very painful to where I couldn't even get out of a chair, climb steps , sit on the toilet. I am a paramedic and am seriously considering leaving this job after over 25 years due to this pain. I have had some minor dizziness and some mood swings. I went to the doctor after being off Levaquin for 1 week and told her of my symptoms and she put me on a Prednisone pack which has helped me with my back and knee pain to the point where I can walk with little pain but it didn't help my shoulder pain with decrease strength in it. I don't know yet if this is a permanent cure for my knee pain or back pain. As far as my shoulder, I believe that I tore the rotator cuff and will need surg. I have also heard that prednisone is not good to take with levaquin. I was prescribed prednisone prior to taking levaquin and wonder if that started all the problems. AND OF COURSE MY DOCTOR DID NOT TELL ME OF THE SIDE EFFECTS WHEN EITHER OF THESES DRUGS WERE PRESCRIBED. But at this point, trying prednisone after completing the levaquin DEFINITELY helped my knee pain.

I starter taking levaquin about 2 wks.ago for a bladder /kidney infection. since taking lavaquin I have had muscle/body pain, see white zagie lights, can't sleep,food tast awful,anxiety,angry and negative thoughts, mood swings,flu like simptoms, I get so hot, I feel awful ...I am 67 yr. old. I am very healthy and do not take any kind of med. I have bladder/kidney infection this is why I was given this drug. I hope this will clear up now that I am no longer on this med.(bladder/kidney infection is gone)

i'm back here again. i wrote in september while i was touring with my band in US, that's when i took the levaquin for 4 days, 500 mg. it's been nearly a month over now and i'm still having pain in my hands, my joints, my hands are swollen, i feel sick, have nausea, anxiety, my whole body clics and clacks, i have enormous manic mood swings... i do not know what to do. i depend on my hands abilities, i'm a musician.... i can't practice guitar properly anymore and can;t eat that well either because my stomach is a quite ruinned.
i feel like prosecuting someone, the doctor who gave it to me, the company , i don't know which one or even if i can do that. all i know is that my life is pretty miserable at the moment because of bloody Levaquin and i am very angry that wasn't warned about these effects.

Started Levaquin after contracting a cellulitis infection...I feel worse since taking the antibiotic. On the brights side killed the infection...but not sure this was the right antibiotic for me considering the side effects

mood swings (no history of mental illness)

Male, 24 Years Old, Healthy, Active. Have never had any adverse reactions from any medication. No known allergies. Was prescribed Levaquin on Friday, March 18th, 2005 for a minor throat infection. 500mg tablet once daily. Took first dose on Saturday, March 19th, 2005. Over the course of the next 6 days I have been getting progressively worse. Have been experiencing flu-like symptoms including; Fever, chills, muscle aches/pains, joint pain, headaches, muscle spasms, sleeplessness, mood swings, severe coughing(feeling like I have bronchitis), pain in eyesockets when moving eyes, general feeling of being tired/washed out, depression, anxiety, cotton mouth, loss of concentration, vivid dreams(whatever, I can deal with that, no biggie), and just a general feeling of being disconnected from my surroundings like there is this cloud around my head. I have taken the medication for 6 days thus far. I am now on the seventh day and have decided to discontinue use. The Levaquin failed to clear up my throat infection and it has only gotten worse. I have scheduled an appointment with my doctor for Monday, March 28th, 2005. I am also going to start taking two tablespoons of Milk of Magnesium daily starting tomorrow, Saturday, March 26th, 2005. I will post again in a few days to update you all on my condition and wether or not the Milk of Magnesium is working. I sincerely hope that the effects of this drug can be reversed. This site is a godsend. Had I never found it I would have continued to take this "poison". - John

For anyone just experiencing adverse reactions to Levaquin: My wife had, and after 4 months continues to have, a bad reaction from Levaquin. Symptoms include very sore and swollen joints (still here), tingling in her extremities (gone after about 3 months) and mood swings (mostly gone). The doctors she is seeing were very emphatic - stop taking Levaquin at the first sign of any adverse symptoms - it can only get worse.

Hello. I want to warn everyone who takes Levaquin to be extra careful.( This is my third post here. )After taking just 8 Doses of Levaquin last month. I now am under Doctor care for the side effects. I am on Vicodin for pain .(which does not help much) I have to get blood work done every week ,Sometimes twice a week. My Doctor is talking about putting me in the Hospital if things do not get better. I will need IV Fluid for dehydration, I now need to see an ortho doctor for my hips , legs, and feet and shoulder. I used to walk all the time. and now just riding to the store ,I come home and take a nap. I can not go anywhere by myself. My mood swings are horrible and I get depressed so much easier now. I wish everyone luck . You all are in my prayers.
