I was prescribed Levaquin 500 MG for a sinus infection5 days ago. After completing my third dosage I felt a sensation on my toes as if something was biting me. Then it started on my fingers, hands and up and down my arms. My toes and fingers started to swell. The rash then came up the backs of both legs. My feet felt as if they had been burnt very badly. They look like they have been very badly burned. I phoned the doctor and was told to take Benadryl (2 pills) ever 6 hours and to come into the office first thing the next morning. I did and was told to never take Levaquin again. I was prescribed Augmentin. Two days later and I still have the red burnt look on the tops of my toes and the sides of my feet. It looks terrible!

I took levaquin 750mg as prescribed yesterday, after leaving my doctors office at 330pm ( june 18th). along with calrinex d (1tab) and a tsp of tussionex suppension syrup and 4 nose shots of astelin in increments of two over a 4 hr period of time. I was awake a majority of the night unable to sleep. But had some bouts of sleep. This morning (june 19th) I awoke at 930 am forced awake due to an appointment, and took 550 mgm of levaqin and the array of other drugs, around 12pm I noticed a headache and believed it was due to the exertion of coughing so much, my appetite is non-existent and around 6pm I felt flushed and sweaty, however this feeling subsided. I am now in hyper drive, I want to fall asleep but when I do my throat has the sensation of being choaked and then I have this odd gush or air emmited nasally which awakens me from the doze. My left corotid arrtey was tender and my heart is palpitating. While my sinus infection is almost gone I do not think I will be continuing this medication. There will be a call made to my physician at first reasonable light, I am sure I will be awake.

I have been taking Levaquin 500 for bronchitis for 6 days. The first 3 days were fine. On the 4th day when I woke up the room was spinning. I went back to sleep for a while , thinking that if I did when I woke up, the spinning would have stopped but it didn't. From there came the nauseousness followed by headache and eye pain. I had no energy but could not lay down because of the spinning. For the rest of the day, I just felt bad, physically and mentally. I started crying for no reason. The next day was much of the same and I started thinking that this must be the medicine so I checked the internet for the side effects of this drug. My symptoms sound like I might have gotten off easier than some but guess what I am not taking that last pill.

I went on levaquin-2 rounds of it, due to pneumonia. I felt very out of sorts and discombobulated. Dizzyness, word recall problems, insomnia, diahrrea. My tongue was coated with a thick white film. One night my tongue and my hand felt very disconnected to me, and I had a strange but familiar taste or sensation in my mouth but I couldn't name it. It lasted 3 or 4 minutes. I think I may have had a petit mal seizure. I have been having trouble with my vision, things I read are blurry now, and I have never worn glasses, or had vision problems before. I have been off of this medication for 6 days now, and I am still feeling some of these side effects. I rarely have any side effects from medications. I will never take this again.

I was prescribed Levaquin a couple of years ago and I thought that I was crazy. During the time I took the drug, I felt this horrible sensation in my leg as kind of like the feeling when your leg has fallen asleep and it's coming out. It was a horrible tingle that just persisted to the point where I thought I was going crazy. I had to call an ambulance becuase I couldn't take that intense feeling any longer, people were telling me that I was delusional but now I find out after reading on this site that it had to be the Levaquin. Recently I was prescribed Levaquin for a sinus infection and I have the worse lower back pain I have ever experienced in my life. I couldn't figure out why I was having so much pain not only in my lower back but throughout my loints and now I realize that it was the drug. I will never usr levaquin again.

OK I have a weird side effect to ask about. After a few hours of taking this, I noticed a rush of heat starting from my butt and going down my legs. I thought, "What the h#ll?" I have read on here about the hot flashes and I'm going to attribute that to this drug.
Here's the thing that I haven't yet read and was wondering if it has effected anyone else like this.. This sounds funny but is not. My "boodyhole" goes like in and out at will sometimes. You know, and I hate to be graffic, but when you use the restroom and having a bowel movement and you finish; everything kind of goes back in. It's that sensation that of going "in and out".
Anyone? Anyone?

I was prescribed Levaquin the end of 2/07 for a sinus infection after six days I began to feel body ache in my knees, small back, shoulders and hips. In addition to the aforementioned, I have severe burning in my feet and mild burning in my hands. The burning sensations are mostly at night which affects sleep. It is now mid April, some of the affects are diminishing but flair ups continue. I also noticed that the burring sensation is accelerated by heat (sun, hot water etc.) My Doctor has me on the circuit, sinus specialist, nerve specialist and soon allergy specialist no one is admitting that Levaquin is the cause.

HI, I was prescribed Levaquin for a sinus infection. I took it for 9 days. I could not sleep but worse than that I got pain in my knees. It started in the back of the knees and felt like a pulling sensation. Then the pain moved into the front of the knees and limits me to how I bend. I can not kneel down or squat since taking this medication. It has limited me considerably on how I do things. It has been 2 months since I stopped the levaquin but I still have the symptoms. Does anybody else have these symptoms and if so does it ever go away????

I was prescribed Levaquin 500, because of bronquitis for one week, in that time I experienced:
diarrhea
nausea
numbness in arms, hands, fingers
extreme swelling in joints
insomnia
difficulty to stand up, walk
bruses in eyes and arms
no strength
tingly or electric sensation in hands
I went to many doctors, but none of them knew what was happening, until one of them told me this was called Serum Sickness, which is an extreme reaction to the drug. TWO MONTHS HAVE PASSED AND I STILL HAVE THE SYMPTOMS. It is affecting my life, because I depend of others to do certain things for me, because of the extreme pain, and weakness.

I was given a 5-day supply of Levaquin as a second course of treatment for a very bad Urinarry Tract Infection. While it cleared the infection thouroughly, the side effects were frightening and burdensome. I began having tingling and uncontrollable restlessness in my arms and legs, bordering on a claustrophic attack sensation. Over the next few days I experienced severe mood problems including anxiety, depression, sleeplessness, anger and frustration and crying jags. I will never take this drug again and am hoping to inform anyone who experiences these symptoms that they are in fact, not going crazy.

I am an otherwise healthy 38 yr/old male. I was taking Levaquin (500 mg/day) for possible prostatitis. Within 72 hours, began feeling numbness in my left foot, leg, and arm. Was traveling for the holiday, and during air flight my leg felt as if it was developing an internal pressure. As I can nearly describe it, it felt as if someone had connected a bicycle tire pump to my leg and was steadily inflating it. Was nearly convinced that I was having a stroke, until I began to suspect the Levaquin. I was unable to reach my physician, who was also traveling for the holiday. After my 5th dose, I elected to discontinue taking the levaquin. On that day, I developed pain in my left calf. Later, the pain also developed in the hamstring area. After a fitful night, the pain began to subside into a dull fatigue (now ~24 hours since last dose). The fatigue and numbness remained at that level for another 24 hours. Finally, by the 3rd day following my last dose, the fatigue and numbness began to fade. On the fourth day, the fatigue was gone, though a slight numbness persisted, though only in my leg (arm numbness was gone). Travel on that same day went fine (no sensation of pressure). Today (fifth day since last dose), just a slight numbness in my lower left leg.

I just read these articles about taking Levaquin. I too just took this month ago for an UTI infection. The 3rd day I started to feel awful, I started out feeling lightheaded, dizzy, chills, nauseated, then the 4th day started with feeling really tired, and like I was going faint, the depression set in. By the 5th day, I have started with this awful burning aching sensation in BOTH of my arms. Needless to say, stopped taking this awful medicine after the 6 th day, was suppose to take it for a total of 10 days. I have been back and forth to the doctors getting shots, medicine and nothing seems to help. I know I got this from taking Levaquin and I too have had these awful side affects. NOW I may have to go to a specialist about my arms. Some of the side affects have gone away, except for my arms. bouts with chills, and being nauseated. Its been 3 weeks and still no improvement. I just wondered how if any of the posts have improved. You read all these about the side affects BUT no after affects of improvemen, and is there any hope at all to feeling better . I hope others will respond back to these who have gone through the same side affects. BARB

My 16 yr old son has experienced: hallucinations, tinnitus, calves cramping, pin-point headaches, knees, feet, wrist pain. Nightmares with fasciculations (sensation of skin crawling), vision disturbances (black spots). He has had concentration problems, making it difficult to complete sentences and read. It has been almost 3 weeks since he took ONE PILL 500 mg Levaquin. (The next entry is also mine.)

I started taking Levaquin (500 mg 1 per day) five days ago and after one day started experiencing a sensation of a shortness of breath. This causes me to gasp a bit and is quite startling (and scary). Has this happened to anyone else here?

I feel almost lucky to have hardly any side effects considering what most of you have been through. I just finished about a 7 day prescription of Levaquin for pneumonia. Well, I remember the first day I took it I was lying in bed and my right arm started aching and my muscle in my forearm was throbbing. Then, my arm started to burn and tingle. I attributed to painting the ceiling my bathroom the night before and ignored it even though the script package said that that could happen and to call the Dr. The sensation was gone in the morning. The rest of the week, I had been extremely tired, anxious, nervous, restless, couldn't sleep, crying for no reason, I would pop off at my family which is completely out of character for me. I would fall asleep and then pop up in a panic spontaneously. Last night I noticed my teeth chattering and my throat and tongue feeling almost swollen. Today they feel just strange swollen but almost heavy and tense. Today was my last day on this medicine thank God! I too noticed that I was fine in the am but clawing at the walls by the evening. I am also on an ADHD medication (that the Dr.'s new that I was prescribed) and the added stimulant has made me foggy, antsy and jumpy and my muscles from head to toe will twitch and jerk. Thanks so much for the information. I will definitely inform any of my family and friends to refuse this medication.
