I am currently taking levaquin for a sinus and double inner ear infection, i have also taken this antibiotic before,i am 35 years old. I think this drug works wonderfully and tell the doctor this drug works the best for me.i have noticed a harder time falling asleep if i take it too late in the evening and some mild stomach cramping if i do not eat at least 2 hours prior to taking it.i also take it with a full glass of water.some of the side affects listed in this blog that people are describing are normal if you read your insert that comes with the medication. And if you follow the directions and eat and drink with a full glass of water the side effects are not as severe.Unless you are allergic to the drug,i do not find it bothersome knowing i will not be taking it forever and it is just temporary that i will be having a hard time falling asleep.i do eventually fall asleep. My suggestion while taking this medication if you are in reasonably good health,is to read the directions about eating and drinking plenty of water and don't panic, that just makes things worse.

I am currently on a 10 day/500mg dose per day of Levaquin for an absolutely awful sinus and upper respiratory infection. I am gradually improving, maybe 10 % each day, but I have noticed general malais and an overall loss of appetite together with stomach cramps and mild diarrhea, primarily after dinner. I almost feel as if I could have mononucleosis..just tired all day with little if any gumption to do anything. Also, I have terrible pain in the bottom of my feet when I get up in the morning as well as blurred vision when I try to read. So, is it worth it? Well, ultimately, if I get rid of this infection it will be, but like with so many drugs, you have to suffer in another way to stop suffering in the first place. I'm not sure which is worse.

After reading some of the other postings, I consider myself lucky so far! I took my first dose of Levaquin 500mg yesterday evening. Last night I went to bed and after about 1/2 hour of sleep, I woke up and shot out of bed. I just wasn't feeling right...kind of anxious, couldn't focus, stomach cramps and nausea, had chills and a bad cough, and some chest discomfort. Later, I started developing a headache. Today, I still don't feel right at all and have put a call in to my doctor, but honestly, I don't want to put any more medication into my body! I will not be taking this medication again.

i am a 52 year old male with many med. problems. I have taken Tequin twice, with no problems. I am now on Levaquin, 750 mg.X 10 days for an absessed tooth. I have taken 3. I won't take any more. I have had the following side effects: Lightheaded, Shakey, sweating, stomach cramps, dizzy, sore throat, fever, and depression/anxiety. I believe I have become "sensitized" to this family of drugs. Be aware, and tell your Doctor.

Though levaquin has been extremely effective against my pneumonia, it came with several of the side effects previously mentioned: severe diarrhea, preceded by stomach cramps, joint pain, a metallic taste, disrupted sleeping patterns and yes, weird dreams and near hallucinations. I've also felt very foggy--as if my brain weren't functioning normally.
I usually scoff at the list of side effects on a prescription, rarely having problems. This time, though, I think I experienced nearly all of them. I'm now taking Flagyl to counteract the effects of Levaquin, to no avail so far.

I take lithium for a bipolar illness and found that the Levaquin actually interacted with my medicine and lowered it's effectiveness. My doctor tested my level with a blood test and found it had been lowered by 33% in just 10 days. Also, I experienced pain in my shoulder muscles and had heart palpitations as well. I felt feverish at times too, yet, much of the time I felt so cold. I experienced nausea, and dizziness. Best of all, I couldn't sleep worth a darn either. I took this instead of Biaxin because the Biaxin gave me stomach cramps and diarrhea. I'll tell you what, I will beg to take the Biaxin over the Levaquin next time I get a sinus infection.

I have been taking Levaquin since Tuesday for a UTI and I have been having the WORST stomach cramps, bloating and excessive gas. At first I thought it was something I ate, since we have been barbequeing a lot but now that I read this page I'm convinced it's the medicine. I feel like I've eaten 3 cans of beans, broccoli and onions mixed together, that's how bad my stomach hurts. It feels like it's going to explode. The only thing that seems to have calmed the pain a bit is Pepcid AC. I want to ask my doctor to switch me. I'm glad I read this site.
