UPDATE from Yesterday)))>>> well thanks to everyone i quit taking it yesterday BUT!!!---> today when i woke up i had a horrible head ache and it seemed to be coming from my left eye. i looked in the mirror and i have a really weird yellowish glazed tint in both my eyes and in my left eye a blood vessel has burst. i also noticed ive developed a skin rash on my right side of my stomach and on my left calf. My joints kept me up all night in constant pain which felt like someone was ripping apart my ligaments. I had a minor anxiety attack last night (Ive NEVER had anxiety before) and my body just feels weak, drained, and i keep getting really weird muscel spasms in my upper thigh. I tried to go out to the store earlier and as soon as i stepped into the sunlight a migraine hit me, and ive never been sensitive to light....Ive had a feeling of helplessness and worthlessness more in the past 24 hours than i have in a year. Im also experiencing horrible lower back pain and stomach pain around where my kidneys are.... I did have a small amount breast tenderness when i woke up and im not sure if that's another side effect...(no im not pregnant, had multiple urine tests in the last week)...I think ive only went potty maybe once today...and that was at like 9am...its now almost 9pm. Im pretty sure if this isn't over with or doesn't improve by 10pm im going to the hospital.....i cant drink water and im pretty sure im getting dehydrated....my skins turning pale, i have dark rings around my eyes.....etc.......has anyone else suffered with these things? Levaquin is by far the MOST painful, riskful, antibiotic ive been on...They should definitely take this sh*t off the market!!! =[[

I took Levaquin for a kidney infection 500 mg. I was inchy all over. stomach pain. sever neck pain, and pain all over I feel like I was hit by a truck. no energy. my eyes get all heavy like I haven't slept in weeks. Alls I do is sleep and when I do I wake up very confused. I've been taking naps in the day time which I've never been able to do even if I was sick. I don't feel normal like I'm drunk and I don't even drink my sister says I even sound drunk. I get headaches. I have bruises all over in the places that I had itched. I still have kidney pain it feels like it's flopping around in there. Sweat a lot at night time. My heart sometimes beats really fast then thunks hard and then slows down. anxiety attacks. I cry for no reason. I called my doctor and he said he don't think it's from the levaquin that people only get a couple side effects not this many and put me back on antibiotics.

I posted on April %th about my bad dose of levaquin. This is a little follow up. Today is 15 days since my last pill and ( knock on wood) im feeling pretty good today). last 2 days iv have slight headach and leg pains but today im free and clear. My side effects ran in stages. days 1-5 was panic attach and shoulder, hip and leg pain. The they stooped and it was goin and Stomach pain, constipation, aches. then last set was insomnia and headaches on both side. Last 3 days iv taken benadryle capsules and drand a ton of water almost to the point of drowning myself. but i think it worked. also in th elast few days iv basicly said fuck it, whatever tried to ignore it and not think about it and i think its worked for me. So took me a full 2 weeks once i stoped taking it to clear out of me.

Im a 30 yr old male in pretty good health. Iv been sick a few times this year and was given a 5 day dose of Levaquin for a sinus infection. After 2 days of taking the meds i started to have bad panic attacks. i discontinued the pills after only taking 2 ( it did knock my infection pretty much out). However 1 week later im having sharp stomach pain, gas itching, sore back and joint pains. Its not keep me in bed stuff but enough to keep me on edge and worrisome. Its been 9 days since my last pill and each day seems to get worse. im starting to think that this is in my head. its got me all bugged out. however hearing others peoples problems on this website help me know im not the only one that thinks this drug is just wacked out. This drug works but your gonna pay a price for it, the question is.. Is it really worth it?

I not sure that what I am experiencing is related to my 9 month course of 750 mg Levaquin, or my simultaneous 9 month course of 300 mg Rifampin, or my 6 week course of IV Vancomyocin twice a day........You all are talking about days and weeks....I have been on these hardcore meds for substantially longer. I became infected with Staph Epidermidis in the disc space of L 4-5 during surgery to correct degeneration in my spine. I am now left with joint pain from head to toe, Uveitis, a scaly rash all over my trunk and arms, stomach pain, further degeneration in my spine, insomnia, severe fatigue, depression, and what I call "brain fog." I have been told by the team of Doctors caring for me that the only symptom that relates to my medication is possibly the Uveitis. I would like to know how you all are attributing the medications to your ailments? (insomnia, depression, fatigue, joint pain... for example) Are you sure that they are not symptomatic of another disease process? After stopping the medications has your health become normal? I have to remain on this medication for the remainder of the year. I do not have the option of just flushing it down the toilet, as someone previously posted. There are only a few medication that can combat my illness, but I would like to know that they are not harming me in the long run.

I am glad this site was one of the first on the list for Levaquin. Previously I had been on two rounds of antibiotics for bronchitis and sinusitis. I still had a cough that wouldn't go away so yesterday I went back to the doctor. I saw a different doctor than my regular physician, but in the same office. Last night I took the first pill (Levaquin 500) in the evening. After several hours I went to bed. My body was tired, but I could not fall sleep. I also felt stomach pain so I got up ate a few crackers and drank warm milk. I still had insomnia and felt somewhat anxious.

If I had not found this site I would have continued on the medicine another day thinking I should take it in the day rather than at night. Now it is downright scary to think what might occur if I were to continue. Thanks.

I started taking Levaquin for strep throat. I am 22 years old and it good health. I was supposed to take it for 5 days. During the 5 days my stomach felt a bit uneasy, but I was expecting that because i usually have a small stomach ache when taking anti-biotic. On the fourth day i ended up bed ridden. I woke up with severe diarrhea, and threw up. I attempted to go to work, but my symptoms got worse. I ended up in bed with severe stomach and body pain for the rest of the day not able to move or hold anything down. If i tried to drink or eat anything i either threw it up or had diarrhea. It was worse than the flu. I then looked up side effects of Levaquin and found the following: feeling restless or anxious; nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, stomach pain; headache, drowsiness, dizziness;sleep problems (insomnia). I fell under each of those categories. This drug is evil. They said keep taking it but consult with your Dr... yea right. I was DONE with it. I'd rather get strep again than go through that again! DON'T TAKE LEVAQUIN!

I had a sore throat. The first doctor said mono. The 2nd doc. said no mono or strep --must be viral. Third doc says viral and puts me on predinsone, levaquin and darvocet because my uvula was swelling from infection. White count was elevated and had low grade fever. That was Friday..............................The Monday after that I had severe pains in my left side. After teaching went to ER they said gas after 2 minutes. Next day level 8 pain same side went back to ER. They said skeletal prescribed me 4 more drugs and told me it was viral too. Went to internist on Wednesday had to miss teaching he scheduled CT on Thursday morn. Level10 pain almost passed out on Thursday eve missed school/teaching. Friday admitted to ER at different hospital beyond any level of pain I have ever had, blood pressure through the roof, heart palp, they gave me morphine and phenagrin and muscle relaxer for spasms.

Here I am a perfect state of health get a sore throat and the next week I am in the hospital because of the 2nd ct saying that I am full of poo. 4 weeks later I am still in pain, missed 12 days of teaching and now they say i have ibs. I miss my active life before. I believe the combination of these drugs caused this. I am young no children and very healthy. Ultrasound,s blood works, 2 ct scans with dye, colonscopy, xrays show no probs. Which is great but still in pain. Anyone PLEASE HELP the doctors are taking their sweet time while I have lost weight and stay in bed which helps the pain. Bending over, lifting, eating, pooing, sneezing, coughing, hiccuping can make it worse. It is intense SHARP pain. I have cut out everything med wise except for Miralax and now I have diarrhea and joint pain.

They want me to take Dicyclomine and IMIPRAMINE, MIRALAX and Levisin sublingual and Diflucan.

I took 500 mg each day for three (3) days, terrible nightmares, sleep disorder, and some stomach pain. I have seven days left on the treatment. I hope with everything I've read, I can tolerate it, but it doesn't feel so good on the third day...just listening to my Dr, hope he knows what he prescribed is safe for me.

Well I took only one pill for an ear infection and 2 hours later I had, sweats, diarrhea and unbelievable stomach pain. Now I am in the third hour of the drug and I have back pain. This is the worst side effect I have had with any medication. I wonder what the treatment for an ear infection was 50 years ago. I think the FDA is failing. It is apparent that drugs are being pushed to the mark and dam the side effects. I wonder who is on the take$$$. The fact that a drug lists a ton of side effects does not constitute the right for the FDA to allow the drugs be placed to the market.

My mother was told she had pneumonia after going to the emergency room, and was given a prescription for levaquin 750mg. 9 pills cost over $220. After having taken the 2 pill , my mom (81 years old) developed tremors, headache, stomach pain, jaw and mouth discomfort, became disorientated, and worst of all was unable to walk without the help of family. She became very depressed and was praying to die. We took her to her doctor, who literally took the pills from my hand , and threw them in the bio-hazard trash container. We were also informed that we were the second patient to come into his office , THAT DAY- WITH AN ADVERSE REACTION TO THIS DRUG. THIS DRUG ALMOST KILLED MY MOTHER- I BELIEVE THIS DRUG TO BE HIGHLY DANGEROUS. THE DOCTOR ALSO STATED , SHE WILL HAVE TO HAVE PHYSICAL THERAPY , AFTER SHE GETS THROUGH THE ANTIDOTES TO COUNTERACT THIS DRUG. I BELIEVE THAT UNLESS SOMETHING IS DONE, THIS DRUG IS GOING TO HARM ALOT OF PEOPLE. FINAL WORD-THIS IS POISON. BEWARE

Severe nausea, stomach pain, diarrhea, headache, exhaustion, weakness, sweats. I stopped this after 7 days. I hope this horrible feeling goes away soon. I did not feel this bad with the diverticulitis I had before going on this, and now I feel horribly sick and have even missed work because of this. I am also having trouble sleeping. I never will take this again.

Two years ago in May I was hospitalized for an intestinal blockage. They put a combo of levaquin and flagyl into me with IVfeed. It is such a powerful drug that they kept having to move where the needle went into my arm because it became red and swollen after a day or so. The last time they put it in was at the left wrist outside. This caused the vein to eventually collapse all the way down my inner arm and over the heart.
I was released within 5 days and told to take levaquin for ten more days. I could hardly take it any longer and went to my local redi-care to find out what I could take to alleviate the stomach pain. The doc there said stop taking it.
After that episode I began to have pain in my lower spine and across the gluteals. Sometimes when I would sit down it felt as if everything was tearing loose.
This past Feb/March I was given this drug again for headaches which were thought to be sinuitis. The only way I could take it was to cut it in half and take that until it was gone.
Now I have 6 ulcers, a ruptured tendon in the right shoulder and pain in my lower left leg and ankle.
Where I live it is illegal to sue drug companies.
Don't take this stuff or any of its family members.
I can hardly walk and my left arm is scheduled for surgery which I may need to cancel.

I took Levaquin 500mg for a sinus infection I think (can't remember exactly what infection it was) back in 2004 and after two doses woke up in the middle of the night with extreme pain in my veins. It felt like my veins in my entire body were on fire. It was the worst in my arms and hands. The pain was unbearable and I went to ER. They said it was from Levaquin. I haven't heard of anyone else with this type of side effect yet but haven't done much research on it. I took another quinolone (Ciprofloxacin) and also had a bad side effect after only one dose. The pharmacy insert said it could cause "rare but very serious side effects: stomach pain" was listed on the list, which is what I had last night. These antibiotics are not worth taking...

I have had every side effect mentioned in the warning label, this is day #7 and I am not going to take my dose or any others, because I have had burning stomach pain, including gas, throat constriction and pain, inability to eat, nausea, vomiting, and now yesterday presented with the severe hand pain in the hollow of my palms. I am an artist, and a secretary, I rely entirely on the ability in my hands, and if i lose that, I am out of business. This is a nasty little drug, and I would advise anyone anywhere not to take it.

I can understand some peoples concern for others stopping their medication without completing the full peried of time.. However, sometimes, it is unavoidable.. My mother is terminally ill. She has a bed sore that involves a staff infection. They put her on Levaquin for one week. She experineced sever stomach pain, overall body pain.. You couldn't touch her without her crying out in pain.. She would barely eat or drink. At one point the nurses thought she might be having a heart attack as the whole left side of her body had shooting pains up and down it.. I asked then if they thought it might be the antibiotic as it started the day after she took the first dose. They didn't think so.

A couple of weeks later, the infection in the sore resurfaced, and they started her on another round of Levaquin. Same exact symptoms, only this time she started getting body swelling, she could not hardly swallow, and was terribly short of breath.. It was horrible, but again dispite my concerns, they made me continue the med with her and even wanted her to have an extra weeks worth..

After 8 days, I had had enough.. My mother was suffering extensively, it was as if this medication would kill her before her terminal illness would.. I INSISTED that they take her off this med...Three day have passed.. She has some of her appitite back, the swelling went away, you can touch her now except that her heel is still very sore. She is alert and can swallow again.. NO ONE will tell me is wasn't because of Levaquin.. No more shortness of breath.. All the serious side affects have diminished greatly.. I have recently read that people with heart disease as well as mild renal failure should be watched closely with this med.. My mother has both as well as COPD...Why did they even prescribe this med for her??

On Monday, April 7 I went to my doctor because I had developed bronchial infection and a nasty cough. My doctor, to whom I have been going for at least 15 years, prescribed levaquin. Monday night, around 8 pm, I took my first dose. The levaquin was in a vial with 7 500 mg tablets, one per day. By 8:30 pm I began to have stomach pains, nausea, and a headache. I felt lousy. I went to bed around 9 pm because I felt so bad. The symptms got worse. By 11 pm I had rapid heartbeat, extreme perspiration (I was soaked), complete sleeplessness.........could not sleep at all, muscle pains and aches, extreme anxiety, face welling, continued nausea and stomach pain. I didn't know what was going on! At around 2 am I awoke and went to my PDR The Family Guide to Prescription Drugs, 6th Edition, Three Rivers Press, NY. On Page 319 of this book I found levaquin, and under the section: Most Important Fact About This Drug, I read the following, "Levaquin has been known to cause dangerous allergic reactions as soon as you take the first dose." This blew my mind..........if I had read this first, I would never have taken this poison. Cyanide also has been known to cause dangerous reactions as soon as you take the first dose!!! What are these pharmaceutical companies and these doctors trying to do with us? Make us their guinea pigs?? On Tuesday, I was completely washed out.......no energy at all, nauseated, in pain, shivering, heart beating like crazy, restlessness, huge headache.....very sick. I called my doctor and he told me to not take another pill!! Believe me, I didn't need a doctor to tell me not to take another pill...........he then proceeded to prescribe an antibiotic which I had taken a few years ago when I had pneumonia, which caused to ill effects, and which took care of the problem quickly and well. Why in the world, didn't he give me the same medication?? Could it be that the doctors are wined and dined by the pharmaceutical companies to encourage them to push certain new drugs and try them on their patients? This levaquin is new, no generic......costs alot........the one that I was finally prescribed is 10-15 years old, generic, doesn't cost much...........could that be the bottom line? If so, we all had better read our prescription guides very carefully and question our doctors very thoroughly before taking any new medication. The Prescription guide places levaquin in the quinolone family of drugs, there are five other drugs in this family: cipro, floxin, maxaquin, noroxin, penetrex. I have advised my pharmacy to place all of these poisons in my profile so I will never be prescribed these drugs again. Today is Sunday, March 13, and today I am starting to feel like myself again. The bronchitis has been relieved because of the new oldie but goodie medication...........and today the effects of the levaquin have finally startd to diminish. This drug took one week out of my life........one painful, nauseous, anxious, restless, tired, sleepless week. It's a shame what the medical and pharmaceutical professions are doing to their patients.........making guinea pigs out of us.........if we are stupid enough to let them.
