I had a fever of 100+ degrees for 7 days and went in to the ER to see what was going on with my body. Anyway they said I must be getting over a virus and that they usually last about a week or so. On the 14th day of continual fevers I went to see my doctor as I was getting angry with not knowing what was wrong with me. Blood work was done and I was put on 750 mg of Levaquin for 7 days in the event I had a bacterial infection. My temps spiked to 104.1 and again I went to the ER and had more blood work done. On day 21 my fevers reduced and I had more blood work done. Apparently I had CMV a virus that 80% of the population has or had. Needless to say I have been off the Levaquin for a couple weeks now. I have pain in my right arm the entire length of my arm between the elbow and shoulder and if I extend my arm the wrong way the pain is so bad that I cannot breath and almost throw up. The pain is a true 10 out of 10 and I am beginning to feel soreness in my thighs. I will be contacting my doctor tomorrow morning as the pain will not go away as I was hoping it would. This is bad.

Well....an update on my update. Legs aching again. I thought the symptoms were gone. Apparently not. Leg pain and nausea. I am just hoping against hope (and praying!) that these are not permanent. I've been off the Levaquin for 2 weeks+ now after being on it for 12 days. This drug is a nightmare.

I finished taking seven days worth of Levaquin about one week ago. I feel like I am dying. I have Fibromyalgia so I thought I was having a bad flareup. I told my husband this is the worst I've ever felt. I usually exercise, walk, swim and try to move so I dont get stiff from the fibromyalgia. This is very different. My muscles in my thighs and calves are burning, upper body weakness, bizzare nightmares (I usually dont remember my dreams). I cant get out of bed untill around 11:00. I just keep falling asleep when I try to get up earlier. I try to get some exercise and fall onto the couch in tears. I cant think straight and I am so weak. I cant believe my Dr. gave it to me knowing I suffer from chronic pain already. I took it in the past and stopped because of nausea and depression. But I wanted to tough it out this time to get rid of UTI. I also read that you should not take if you have had a reaction to Cipro. I had huge hives from cipro. I wish I had that reaction with the Leviquin so I wouldn't have full body pain. Even my feet hurt. I wish I never heard of this drug!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I started a 5 day dose of 500 mg (UTI) last week right before I flew to Chicago for a weekend vacation. Before my flight I was a NERVOUS wreck! I hadn't flown in a while and couldn't believe the anxiety I was feeling. While there, on my 3rd day of levaquin, I went horse-back riding for about an hour, no biggie. The next day, I tried to go on a walk, and had to lay down right in the middle of the woods because my thighs were so sore and my hands were trembling. I had terrible fear of getting back on the plane sunday night, and wanted to write out a will! I was crying my eyes out. Not normal for me. When I got home, I awoke at 3 am extrememly sick to my stomach. I have now been off for 2 days, and the hot sweats and leg pain made me think I had something very wrong. I'm 37 female, healthy.

I was put on levaquin for lung infections - I developed some side effects similar to what others have - finger pain (also 2 lumps under the skin between finger joints) wrist pain, chest soreness, soreness of calves, thighs, knees, ankles, but the
one strange side effect is - my skin is extremely salty! I asked my pulmonoligst about this symptom and she said it was the Levaquin causing it.

I WAS prescribed 500 milligrams of Levaquin for 21 days. After 14 days on the medication I could barely walk. My achilles tendons felt like someone had hit me with a baseball bAT. That was in January. It is now August and I still have pain. My thighs hurt and I can barely lift my legs to walk up stairs. My knees ache severely, but it is mostly the weakness that is bothering me. I always had strong legs. Now I find it difficult to get up from a sitting position. I can't imagine what it will be like in a few more years. I am under a new doctor's care and am trying to weed out any other causes. I plan to sue if I do not regain the strength in my legs.

I also had severe pain in my finger joints, making it difficult to write, pain in my ankles and knees, pain in the muscles of my thighs and upper arms. Admitted to the hospital for diverticulitis. Was put on an IV of Levaquin. When I reminded the dr and nurse that I'm sensitive to meds I asked what side effects might come along with it. I was told that "it's just an antibiotic" and the most I could expect was nausea. That night I couldn't sleep and by morning the elbow tendons in my right arm were in severe pain but was told that it was most likely due to the IV entry point.
Was sent home with 7 days oral dosage. I began to experience spaciness, confusion, short term memory problems, burning and tingling in my feet and hands, pain in my wrist, my right arm was no longer usable having no grip strength and weakened muscles. A general feeling of exhaustion came along with it all. I stopped the meds on the 3rd day after reading the stories of others who experienced similar madness.
My GP was reluctant to agree that it could be Levaquin but I feel fortunate that she did indeed refer me to a neurologist. Tomorrow will be the full workup and blood tests for liver functions.
I would very much like to be involved in any project, legal action or otherwise, that is focused on bringing to light the dangers of this family of medicines. You can contact me at VFrancis@southbuffalo.net Good luck to everyone!

Took Levaquin for chronic prostatitis. After a a few weeks experienceds intense pain in feet, calves and thighs. General feeling of maliase, fatique and depression. Inability to sleep. Sense of taste has diminished though sense of smell has been heightened. Fingers and wrists aching on and off. Fealt extremely dizzy and nauseous for several days. Nausea has diminished, but the feet, calf and leg pain remain. Have called doctor and recommendation is to cease taking Levaquin and see if syptoms abate after a few days. In the mean time he told me not to do any physical exertion as muscles and tendons are weakened when side effect occurs. Prescribed mild OTC anti-inflammatory (Ibuprofen) and pain-killer (Tylenol) for a few dayswhile we wait to see the progression and/or abatement of symptoms.

I started Levaquin 500mg 5 days ago for bronchitis/pneumonia. Well today I did not take the medication because within the hour after taking it I have a tuff time breathing when moving around. I now have upper front pain in my thighs and around my hips, I have a feeling of heaviness and tightness across the breast area of my chest, my throat has this sense of fullness that comes and goes and I have a uncomfortable feeling in the base of my skull, my fingers at times feel like the circulation has been cut off and then it goes away, my heart feels like it is racing or not beating right. I have this thought in my head the last 2 days as to whether I should go to the emergency room because I am not sure now if it is my heart.

My 22 year old daughter had reconstructive ankle surgery on March 2. Her doctor prescribed 500 mg of Levaquin once daily for 5 days as a preventitive for pneumonia. She has to spend 3 months down with her leg elevated and the chances of pneumonia are great. On March 4th she woke up with a small rash on her right inner thigh. On March 5th, she woke up with a fever and discovered that the rash had spread to both thighs, has completely covered her buttocks and has covered her entire back. I just got off the phone with the doctors office and they have advised taking her off Levaquin. It was obvious to me that it was an adverse reaction to this drug so I had already discontinued giving it to her. She claims none of the other side effects that others appear to be having on this site, but I thought I should add that a very itchy, painful, severe body rash is another side effect to this drug.

I posted on 7/28 regarding an allergic reaction to Levoquin. Despite being off the drug now for over a week, I continue to have severe muscle pain especially in my thighs and calves, but general muscle pain as well. It feels as if my muscle fibers are about ready to shred into pieces, as if I just yesterday ran a marathon and today my muscles are extremely sore. How long after discontinuing Levoquin do these type of symptoms linger? What course of action can be taken to facilitate some improvement?

Started 500mg for sinus/upper respiratory infection on 7/15. So, I am on day 7 of a 14 day prescription. Side effects include: restlessness, insomnia, muscle restlessness (not really a pain, more like a spasm feeling) in thighs and forearms, headaches that radiate down through my jaw and cause tooth pain, neck tension, increased appetite - especially cravings for sweets (which has led to some reflux and sore throat). Dr. refuses to acknowledge these as side effects and feels they are symptoms of the infection. White count originally at 16 is down to 12, so she feels the Levaquin is working and that I should stay on it. ??? Not sure what to do, so I've started taking Acidophilus 3 times a day to at least counter the possibility of yeast build up in intestines.

Where to start? During a 7 day seige, the following "acceptable" side affects began to show up: tendonitis in the Achilles; cramps in the calves; soreness in the thighs and glutes; joint stiffness in knees; neck and arm pain; personality changes; and finally acne-like sores on the forehead. I was supposed to have 14 days of treatment, but didn't. I threw the medicine away, looked into homepathic remedies and finally cleared up the problem on my own. I'm sure this works for some...but not me. After stopping, all side affects disappeared except stiffness in my right calf. That lingered for about a month and then finally got better. I'll never knowingly take this stuff again.

Absolutely cannot recommend this "medication." Took 500mg dose for 7 days and suffered: inflamation of the Achilles; muscle spasms in legs; cramps in in the thighs and the glutes; stiffness in leg joints; shoulder and neck pain; and then acne-like breakouts on the forehead and body-wide itching. Of course these were all noted side effects. I stopped taking the meds, looked into homeopathy remedies and cleared up the problem myself. Continued to have stiffness in the legs for several weeks but found glucosamine and chondroitin helped quite a bit. I'm sure this works for some people...but not me.

My daughter had a bronchitis infection, bordering on pneumonia. She was given Levaquin which after 2 pills (2 days); she experienced extreme pain in her arms , from the wrist to the elbow. She took a total of 3 pills and stopped. This has been 3 to 4 weeks ago. She still has some pain in her arms and has recently experienced bruising on the arms, legs & thighs. They changed her medication but, she continues to cough. Obviously, she was prescribed a less severe anti-biotic. But, I'm concerned about these on going side effects. How long will this continue?

I took Levaquin for 3 days (of a 7 day course) and I will NEVER take it again. I thought I had a kidney infection or UTI, but the Dr. wasn't sure (test results today say no infection!!). After the first dose, I noticed a little tingling around my mouth. By the second dose, I had joint and muscle pain, especially in my thighs, wrists, and knees. But worst of all, after the third dose, I had TERRIBLE, severe, diarrhea, which not many people seem to mention here. It was almost the worst I've ever felt. The medication did much more harm than good. I am still very weak and have joint pain (3 days after taking the last pill). I would never recommend this to medicine to anyone.

I can not believe I found this web-site. I honestly felt like I was going crazy and that this was in my head. I was prescribed Levaquin for a sore on my finger to fight infection. I was taking 750mg every morning, once a day. The morning of the 8th day, I woke up and felt like I had been ran over by a truck. I felt foolish telling my family even the "back of my knees hurt." By the evening of that day, after laying in bed for just 45 minutes, I couldn't put down my right leg or put any pressure on it. I haven't taken the Levaquin for 24 hours now and it still hurts to try to open doors because my hands are so cramped. Does anyone else feel dizzy? All of sudden I just won't beadle to focus and my head hurts, only last a few seconds, but it is definitely there. Does anyone feel they have long term pain or affects of this drug? This is unbelievable that so many of us fell this way. Just yesterday I was at the doctor because of the pain. He instructed my to stop taking the Levaquin and told me, he has never hear of anyone feeling this way, but it is listed as one of the side effects and is very rare. Apparently it isn't that rare!! Glad I found you guys.
