Levaquin and wks

I took levaquin, cipro and avalox in a 4 month period due to a severe sinus infection, back in Jan to april of 2006. I had tolerated it most of my life, but at that time, I had had 'neck surgery due to 2 pinched nerves, left shoulder operated on, major tears, due to extreme 'flat roof roofing repair' for 6 months trying to save our 'dream home from satan'. (we lost it, foreclosure)
I complained to my dr the next day, (and most every week) he ignored my halluciations, (actually "snickered" in my face), mood altered, ignored my complaints of feeling like a hot rake tearing my muscle and tendons apart. pain, told me to continue taking it:(, blame me for listening and NOT doing research soon enough, I learned later the dr is supposed to STOP the drugs immediately to rule out tendonitist to prevent pernanent irreverable damage AND it's not to be given to 'muscle challanged people'). after that 3rd round in a 4 month period, I told him I'd rather die than to take them again. mom always told me I was allergic to pennicilin, I wasnt, it helped clear my infection.

I now have hodgkins lyphoma, (affects men mostly, i'm female, 51 yrs of age), I shouldnt have 'this cancer'. My face started breaking out w/2 types of skin cancer, basal cell, and precancer A. keratosis eveywhere. I was 120 lbs, cut muscles, always had been physical. Now, flab, lost mucle strength everywhere. Every day now is filled w/severe pain and NO dr will listen, I've been called crazy so many times, I could puke. The dr's dont WANT TO KNOW because of the extensive lawsuits that will exist due to them NOT knowing side effects and stopping meds, it's their 'brotherhood', protect each other no matter what the patients 'cost' is, as in mine, complete mind and body destruction:(
To MOST people, this drug is okay. To many of us, it's a life destroying slow death. Cant work, cant get disability. Have reached for 'help to heaven' so many times, but never followed through:(. I still HOPE for some dr to listen and do necessary tests so I can sue the crap out of my previous g.p. He should have known . HOPE is a forbidden 4 letter word, yet I cuss like a sailor.

I was prescribed Levaquin 750 for 5 days for resolving pneumonia. I didn't finish the last pill due to increased heart rate and severe anxiety. These symptoms did stop for me. However, about a good 2-3 wks later my wrist started hurting. I thought I may have slept on it funny or something. Then a day or two later, my jaw started hurting so bad I couldn't chew at times. Another 2-3 days which leads me to today, I am having tingling/shock sort of feelings running thru my legs and arms and still having the jaw and wrist pain. I have an appt next week with my doc. I'm sure she'll send me thru all the tests everyone here has mentioned to no avail. This is very frustrating and scarey. I wish folks would repost and let the rest of us know how they are progressing. I will post back after my visit. I am going to try the magnesium and 5-htp the gentleman said worked for his wife. I am becoming a firm believer in a more holistic and natural approach to healing. I know sometimes chemical medicines save lives but this one has caused my life a lot of pain that I feel was not necessary for a very light case of walking pneumonia. Good luck to everyone. extreme leg pain as if struck by a baseball bat,
very weak, no energy for several weeks following...
It has been over a year and still not completely
recovered!! I can't beleive this is still being prescribed.

Took leviquin 500 for 8 days before I realized what was happening to me. Side effects included: severe panic, altered mental state, constant sleep, loss of appetite, pounding heart rate. After 2 trips to the ER no help was provided. I stoped the Leviquin early (was supposed to take it for 3 wks) and immediately started feeling better. The anxiety is much less but still present and I still sleep all the time.

Has anyone had similar experiences and, more importantly, how long does this last?

I starter taking levaquin about 2 wks.ago for a bladder /kidney infection. since taking lavaquin I have had muscle/body pain, see white zagie lights, can't sleep,food tast awful,anxiety,angry and negative thoughts, mood swings,flu like simptoms, I get so hot, I feel awful ...I am 67 yr. old. I am very healthy and do not take any kind of med. I have bladder/kidney infection this is why I was given this drug. I hope this will clear up now that I am no longer on this med.(bladder/kidney infection is gone)

I took Levaquin for 17 days (500mg). My eye site is now very poor (2 wks after the final pill), and I have to drink lots of water (always have "cotton mouth") and therefore I have to urinate all the time! The doctor said the eye sight going is temp and only 1/2 as bad as other similar drugs! I used to run fairly fast and now my times are really slow. Sometimes I get a little 'off-balance' too. This drug is the pits!

I am a 47 yr old w/immune condition still getting phy thpy for unknown tendonitis issue in arms that started last spring. Post my physical 2 1/2 wks ago i was given two meds. One was Cymbalta for pain due to peripheral neuropathy and the other was Leviquin for sinusitis. I was on it for 14 days, 500mg. I was in a brain fog most of the time. I had insomnia, terrible aches and pains in my shoulders and neck. I thought it was due to the other med I was taking, but now that I am done taking the Leviquin I feel much better. After reading entries on this site and others I cannot believe my doctor put me on this antibiotic. I am taking baths with epsom salts for the magnesium since that is what most here say helps get over these side effects. I had previously considered changing doctors, now I know I have to go elsewhere. This mistake in judgment on his part is unforgivable.

I originally posted my side effects the end of April, 5 wks after stopping Levaquin. The lingering side effect at that time was severe spasms in my hands especially left one. Pain got worse before it got better. After six months it finally seems to have let up. (I'm almost afraid to say anything) It has been very depressing because you think you'll never get better. Just wanted to let people know that it is possible for this medication to get out of your system. Good luck everyone.

Was prescribed Levaquin for UTI. 8th day, knee swelling and severe pain in tendons in back of knees, had to stay off my feet. If it weren't for the computer, I wouldn't have known that tendonitis was one of the adverse reactions to this medication. I stopped medication immediately. 1 wk later tendons in hands very painful. I'm glad I found this web site. By reading people's experiences, it helped me cope with the pain and gave me hope that this will eventually disappear. I seem to be more fortunate then some, its 5 wks since I stopped medication and knees seem to be alot better, only hurt if I stand or walk too long. Left hand is the problem, still very painful, have to stop and rest it often. Sometimes I am lulled into a false sense of security and think everything is back to normal, then pain returns. Pharmacy, doctors have been no help, very evasive. Filed a report with Drug Co. In the meantime, I will have to REST and drink plenty of water and hope this will all disappear eventually. Good luck to all who are suffering. I have prayed more often.

PS: Comment for the wise guy who made light of people's pain from these side effects. From what I read, Levaquin side effects may not appear until after you've had taken them several times. So watch out, you may be eating those words.

This is the first time I have ever taken levaquin. Never heard of it before this. I have always suffered with joint pain, back aches, and swollen joints. I have athritis. I am not even sure what the infection is, in my body. I had a swollen lymph gland in my groin area. Have been taking tests, and may have had a mild kidney infection. I have just found out I have diabetes too. The dr. put me on bextra for the joint pain, and levaquin for the infection. 500 mg for 10 days. I have had NO side affects that stand out. Actually, I feel much better. no joint pain, no nausea, no headaches and no tired feelings. I had all this before I started the levaquin. I did expreience one or two nights of not being able to sleep and feeling anxiety, but with everything else I am going thru.. I just took it as emotional stress. I have taken other antibiotics in the past that have given me a yeast infection.. but the levaquin has done well for me. I only have one left to take. I think allot of the side affects I have been reading are actually allergic reactions.. I was on prozac for 2 wks once, years ago and it put me in the hospital with all the stuff I am reading here. I have taken Levaquin many times for sinus infections and the more I take it the worse the side effects are. I can not sleep and have anxiety. I have a MVP so this does happen to me sometimes but, it is well under control....so, I know when I take Levaquin it is from taking it.....This time I can not take it. I have to be on it for 3 wks---I will never last. Last night I had to take a zanax to get to sleep. I have a very bad sinus infection. It has recurred 3 times since Feburary. I will be calling my MD today for sure..........
