I was told that, if anything, I would lose weight as a result of taking this med and that it could help a bit with my depression. The opposite has occurred. I gained weight and, as exercise has been one of the few effective ways to address my depression, the added flab made me much more depressed. My energy has been zero at times, I can't concentrate, and my memory is affected. If I felt like this all the time, life wouldn't be worth much.

I'm 26 and was diagnosed with HYPOTHYROIDISM in Oct 2005. I was put on LEVOTHYROXINE. At firt I felt sick to my stomach, and then started having really bad head akes. I have had some site effects such as HEART PALPITATIONS, MILD DEPRESSION, UNABLE TO CONCENTRATE, FATIGUE AND SPACED OUT FEELINGS! But the one site effect that I have not seen anyone talk about is "RINGING OF THE EARS!!!!!!" PLEASE IF ANY ONE IS HAVE THE RINGING OF THE EARS...LET ME KNOW, IT IS DRIVING MY @&*!%#^ CRAZY. My MD says its ANXIETY! Give me a break pal, I know my body good enough to know when im NOT anxious. Also my sex drive is flat lined. Please email me if you have these same site effects.. I've been on Levothyroxine for years, and recently my fingers on my left hand tingle, are numb, I can't FEEL with them. So after complaining to my doctor, he shoots some cortisone in my wrist telling me it's carpal tunnel. Carpal tunnel, my butt!! I don't know what made me do it, but somehow I got to this site. I've been on antideppressants for years cause I'm tired, fatigued, then on valium so I can sleep,
I can't concentrate at all, my memory is GONE....
I called him this afternoon and said I wanted to go on Armour
Thyroid. His nurse tells me that he says " We'll address that when he sees me in April". %#@* that, I'll be 400 lbs by April!! My sex drive is nonexistant, and I'm a freakin' couch potato when I used to go to the gym, go out with friends, DO THINGS!! Now I'm lucky if I make it through work. ENOUGH DRUGS... I'm goin' off everything and starting over. I'll get up the money and see an endocrinologist. I'm through being a drug reps dream....

17 year old female. I was diagnosed w/ thyroid cancer when I was 8 and had my entire thyroid and several tumors removed a month after the diagnosis. I've been on Levoxyl for about 7 years. I often experience chest pain, nausea, abdominal pain, and depression. I want to take myself off the medication, because I recently went 3 weeks w/o taking it and the depression went away. Only problem is when I stop taking the medication for more then a month I start to feel really sick, paranoid, and I'm unable to concentrate. I've asked my mom if we could look into an alternative medication, but she believes my doctors when they say that my depression, chest pain, nausea, and abdominal pain are not at all related to my taking Levoxyl.

I am a 36 year old MALE and was diagnosed w/ hypothyroiditis about 3 months ago. My doctor placed me on levoxyl after confirming his concern through blood tests. Prior to taking levoxyl, I had all the symptoms of hypothyroidism. After 2 months on the med, I noticed much improvement and decrease in symptoms - stop of hair loss, better sleep, more energy, ability to concentrate, and no more constipation. From reading nothing but bad news regarding levoxyl on this site, I pray that my sucess continues in the long term w/ levoxyl and I hope all you find something that works.

Does any know of a support website for MALES regarding hypothroiditis?

Hello all: how are you? I am from Dominican Republic, and I use levothyroxine and the brand name is 'SYNOX' which is about the same as LEVOXYL. Well let me tell u my story. I have been on levothyroxine for about 2 years the doctor first put me on 0.1 Milligrams and i felt ok at first but then i have been feeling very hungry, anxious, and i haven't been able to concentrate on my books that i have to read for university.
I have been decreasing the dosage, and now i am on 0.025 Milligrams which is about 1/4 of the original dose (0.1 milligrams) I would like to go off levothyroxine because my TSH, T3, T4 have been in the normal range anyways.
Even though i have a slow metabolism, which is one of the first causes for me to go to an endocrinologist doctor, i think i can manage my weight with exercise, although i retain water easy. But like u, i would like to go off this medicine. I also get tired easy, but u know the thing about levothyroxine is that it leads to diahreah too it's a sort of laxative that u take so that's one of the bad effects of it too,

Thanx and I woudl appreciate your comments

Extreme fatigue /bordering on Narcilepsy- falling asleep while driving or at work sitting in my chair. Weight gain despite all efforts (working out and eating right). Rapid, pounding heartbeat. Can't concentrate -easily distracted.

Period is irregular and very heavy during some days.

I have told my doctor about these symptoms but she says there isn't much she can do. I have to wait until I see a specialist. It has taken me 3 months to get in to see one. If the specialist says that I have to keep taking this drug, I will stop taking it and find another doctor.

Since starting levoxly i have been to the emergency room twice for heart palpitations and chest pains, my doctor says everything is in range but i lower the medication as i lose weight and the lab results are the same with and as i lower it the palipitations stop, my doctor tells me this isn't the medication because i am in "normal range" but i know it is, they are simple cause and effect. when i get palpitations as i lose weight, i lower it and they stop. I am in law school, i have had a complete inability to concentrate and flunked out of my first year, i'm not sleeping and eating is hard because i am so naseus, i don't think that our doctors realize what this is doing to us!
