I've been on levothyroxine 150mcg for about 3 months before that it was 100mcg and so on. I have gain lots of weight and tired all the time. depression also, headaches. I hate this gaining weight, sleepy all the time and depression is from gaining weight. I thought this med is to up boost my thryiode but it doesn't seem to be working. my dr. said I'm on the highest dose there is. I don't know what to do any more. I was thinking about taking myself off this but not sure what will happen if i do. I hope there is someone out there that might be able to let me know if they are going through the same things what they are doing and how they feel now.

I have been on levothroid 25mg for a year but went to see an endocrinologist who switched me to Levoxyl 75mg which I have taken for a week. I have developed tiny bruises on my body. I am waiting for my doctors office to call back to see what they say. I don't think I want to take it anymore. I am glad i found this website. Thanks to everyone for all the information.

I was put on Levoxyl for 20 years. Hair kept falling out, muscles aches, acid reflux, plantar fasciitis, carpel tunel, tired, cranky, brain fog. I could barely walk and had developed a stutter. I was to be tested for Alzheimers at 45. I was told there was no other drug for hypothyroidism and it wasn't the Levoxyl doing these things to me.

Well I found another drug thanks to the internet and Yahoo Natural Thyroid Group. It was Armour. I have been on Armour for about 2 years now. All those problems I had on Levoxyl are gone. Completely GONE! Wasn't the Levoxyl huh?

I have been on Levoxyl for about 9 years and have felt awful. I have had weight loss, dry hair, thinning hair, dry skin, muscle aches, migraines and the list goes on. I just got out of the hospital Monday after 4 days of testing of my heart and lungs. I was admitted for racing heart. The doctor's conclusion was anxiety! They said that Levoxyl has nothing to do with my rapid heart rate. The endocrinologist prescribed taking levoxyl .050 on day and .075 the next also a beta blocker, Xanax and Zoloft. I can not take any of these meds b/c they make it almost worse. I KNOW it is not Anxiety and it from the Levoxyl but what do I do?? I am a mess right now can not be in this condition with four young kids and a husband. None of the doctors would say it was the Levoxyl and instead prescribed more and told me to check up with blood work in 6 weeks. I took the .050 yesterday around noon and by 7:30pm my heart rate picked up again and continued until 4:30 this morning. I can not sleep more then 2 hours at a time and wakeup feeling like I am crawling out of my skin. PLEASE let me know of any solutions.

I have being taking thyroid medicine since 1994. I was diagnosed with Hyperthyroidism and prescribed Synthroid. It didn't work. Instruct to take radioactive pill. Now, diagnoses change to Hypothyroidism. Prescribe Levoxyl. Endocrinologist said I would lose weight, but instead I have gone from a size 8 to 16. I feel really bad when I miss my doses. Really anxious when I take it every day. I am noticing that I have moles growing out and spreading all over my body. Switch back to Synthroid three months ago. That when start experiencing a great deal of hair loss. Decide to switch back to Levoxyl but a lower dose. The hair loss has slowed down a little. But, hair is growing slowly. I am having problems focusing and some memory loss. I really don't know what to do. I have change endocrinologist twice. I really think that Levoxyl and Synthroid have bad side effects on human after long term usage. I am miserable because I can't control my weight. I know that it has something to do with this medicine. If anyone know of some other medicine that would Hypothyroidism in check without all of the side effects that I mention. Please share it with me.

I have had thyroid disease for 6 years. I just had my medicine increase less than one week ago from 125 mcg to 150 mcg. The endocrinologist did this with a lab result from over 6 months ago and I was never retested before he upped my dose. 2 days after my new dose I broke out in a rash head to toe. The next day I started itching and went to my doctor and she said I have no idea what is going on with you. Then I went to the Pharmasist and he said you are having an allergic reaction to the dye in the 150 mcg blue tablets (125 mcg are white). The following day I got new medication I now am taking 3 50 mcg tablets. But I now am swollen ankles to feet and elbows to hands. My hands are like balloons. When I go to bed at night my hands are completely numb. Has anyone else had any symptoms like this?? Help I cannot figure this out. I am thinking that I may be over medicated. Thank you Heidi

I have been having a lot of trouble with rapid heart beat. I was taking 112mcg. which my endocrinologist increased to 125 because of my blood results, and then the heart problems kicked in. Since then I have tried all sorts of dosages, even going off it for a couple of days (which did calm my heart down considerably). I'm working with 75 mcg now, but after 7 days of that, my heart start pounding away again. I had thyroid cancer so I have to take some kind of hormone replacement, but this is a challenge. I am wondering if Armour might work better.

I've been on thyroid meds for about 20 years but recently was switched to Levoxyl. The only side effects I am experiencing is sweating, both day and night, since before switching to Levoxyl, but it seems to be worsening instead of getting better - which is what my endocrinologist expected. Also I am having difficulty sleeping through the night when that has never really been a problem before. I have an appointment in a couple of weeks and will bring this up to her. I have never really been a sweater so this is very disturbing to me. Also, I was advised to use soy products to alleviate the sweats/hot flashes and have been drinking and using soymilk exclusively for the past 3-4 months trying to get some relief from the rapid change in my body temperature - similar to hot flashes, but not exactly the same. I went through menopause nearly 13 years ago and it seems I'm not quite through it yet - even though I have been symptom free for 13 years.

Hi, Im not much of a computer person. I from old school. Anyway, Im in my 40s and have been on the levox for about a year. I thought night sweats, head aches ,bone aches, and muscle aches were part of my aging factor. My blood levels are good as per my endocrinologist. but I too experience depression at times, constipation, irritability and fatigue as well as mental dullness. Im a very educated women and must admit , I sometimes feel like a total mental moron. Mary

I've been on Levothyroxine for years, and recently my fingers on my left hand tingle, are numb, I can't FEEL with them. So after complaining to my doctor, he shoots some cortisone in my wrist telling me it's carpal tunnel. Carpal tunnel, my butt!! I don't know what made me do it, but somehow I got to this site. I've been on antideppressants for years cause I'm tired, fatigued, then on valium so I can sleep,
I can't concentrate at all, my memory is GONE....
I called him this afternoon and said I wanted to go on Armour
Thyroid. His nurse tells me that he says " We'll address that when he sees me in April". %#@* that, I'll be 400 lbs by April!! My sex drive is nonexistant, and I'm a freakin' couch potato when I used to go to the gym, go out with friends, DO THINGS!! Now I'm lucky if I make it through work. ENOUGH DRUGS... I'm goin' off everything and starting over. I'll get up the money and see an endocrinologist. I'm through being a drug reps dream....

Hello all: how are you? I am from Dominican Republic, and I use levothyroxine and the brand name is 'SYNOX' which is about the same as LEVOXYL. Well let me tell u my story. I have been on levothyroxine for about 2 years the doctor first put me on 0.1 Milligrams and i felt ok at first but then i have been feeling very hungry, anxious, and i haven't been able to concentrate on my books that i have to read for university.
I have been decreasing the dosage, and now i am on 0.025 Milligrams which is about 1/4 of the original dose (0.1 milligrams) I would like to go off levothyroxine because my TSH, T3, T4 have been in the normal range anyways.
Even though i have a slow metabolism, which is one of the first causes for me to go to an endocrinologist doctor, i think i can manage my weight with exercise, although i retain water easy. But like u, i would like to go off this medicine. I also get tired easy, but u know the thing about levothyroxine is that it leads to diahreah too it's a sort of laxative that u take so that's one of the bad effects of it too,

Thanx and I woudl appreciate your comments

I have been taking Levoxyl 137 for the past 4 months and have never felt so bad. Previously I was taking Levothroid. Over just the past couple of weeks the Levoxyl has been giving me some really bad side effects. On three occasions while driving I experienced very rapid heart beat, had difficulty breathing, tingling and numbness in arms and legs, and lightheadedness. The first time this happened to me I called my endocrinologist since some of these symptoms were listed as side effects and he told me that the low dosage could not give me those effects. So I thought I was possibly having a heart attack and went to the ER, and had some follow up tests with an MD. Both my MD and my cousin who is also an MD feel that it is the medication. I have now been changed back to Levothroid 112. Let's see if the side effects disappear. Good luck to all visiting this site.
