I have been taking Levoxyl for approx. 5 years following having a total ablation of my thyroid due to follicular thyroid cancer. I am constantly tired, have joint pain, trouble sleeping and continue to experience weight gain. The doctor continues to tell me this is not from the medicine and to improve my diet. My vision has also gotten terrible over the past two years. Has anyone else experienced this and do you know of anything that helps?

Been on Levoxyl dose of 88mcg, for about 9 months. No problem at first. got rid of my symptoms of being extremely tired(all of a sudden, usually high energy person) and cranky. Now though, I have had a weight gain of almost 8 pounds (a lot for me). My hair has fallen out, and irritable. Going to call my doctor and get my levels checked. Something has changed. Get back to you.

I had always used the generic form of synthroid & then the generic form Levoxyl. The beginning of April 08' my endo prescribed me the brand name Levoxyl. I take 175mg. everyday. After several weeks I began to have terrible insomnia. It was weird because I initially fell asleep easily but began to wake up every hour of the night for no reason. This went on for weeks. I even tried taking Tylenol PM to help me sleep & I still would wake up every hour if not every other hour & I had very vivid dreams that I would remember. I began waking up in the mornings feeling exhausted from all the dreaming & all the waking up. I believe I became more depressed because I was so tired. Then I read on-line that someone else experienced this while taking Levoxyl. I switched back to the generic Levoxyl & now I can sleep through the night again. I still experience fatigue & have problems losing weight. None of that changed when I switched to the brand name anyway.

I have being taking thyroid medicine since 1994. I was diagnosed with Hyperthyroidism and prescribed Synthroid. It didn't work. Instruct to take radioactive pill. Now, diagnoses change to Hypothyroidism. Prescribe Levoxyl. Endocrinologist said I would lose weight, but instead I have gone from a size 8 to 16. I feel really bad when I miss my doses. Really anxious when I take it every day. I am noticing that I have moles growing out and spreading all over my body. Switch back to Synthroid three months ago. That when start experiencing a great deal of hair loss. Decide to switch back to Levoxyl but a lower dose. The hair loss has slowed down a little. But, hair is growing slowly. I am having problems focusing and some memory loss. I really don't know what to do. I have change endocrinologist twice. I really think that Levoxyl and Synthroid have bad side effects on human after long term usage. I am miserable because I can't control my weight. I know that it has something to do with this medicine. If anyone know of some other medicine that would Hypothyroidism in check without all of the side effects that I mention. Please share it with me.

I was told that, if anything, I would lose weight as a result of taking this med and that it could help a bit with my depression. The opposite has occurred. I gained weight and, as exercise has been one of the few effective ways to address my depression, the added flab made me much more depressed. My energy has been zero at times, I can't concentrate, and my memory is affected. If I felt like this all the time, life wouldn't be worth much.

Ok, I am and have been on this med (100 mcg)since April 05. It was suppose to help regulate my thyroid. I have not had a weight issue until 2 yrs ago and they recently found my thyroid become wacked after not having this problem for years. I have bloated up and feel like a stugffed pig, I drink the required water but that does nothing. I too get the heart palpitations or anxiety flutters where I have to STOP everything. My right foot and ankle sometimes become tight and numb but it is said this is normal. How true is that? I have read someof you experienced this. My appetite has not been supresssed and I see no bebeficial facotrs of this med. I am considereing a request to be taken off of this medication because its initial purpose was to HELP with my sudden weight issue and Thyroid issue and I went from 145 and now sit at 230 lbs +/- 7 lbs (water weight). I think we have a problem here and I need it fixed, any suggestions or has anyone else gained weight also or find beneficial uses of this drug? What happened to old fashioned synthroid they use to give out?????

I sleep about 90% of a day. I am to young to feel this way everyday. I feel they should of left the tumor in there so I could of still been myself for a little longer. Than to live like this each day. I just want to know what will happen if I quit taking this Levothyroxine?

Ihave been on Levoxyl for about 2 1/2 yrs now. I am now taking 100mg. I ache in my hips and arms and sometimes have a sore throat. I have gained weight (about 20lbs) and feel confused and almost like a panic attack at times. My vision is shot and now I'm going for laser surgery. My libido have been effected by this too and that has caused problems. I have not lost any hair but my hands swell from time to time. Please let me know if anyone has any suggestion for this. I don't want to stop taking it for fear something will happen.

I have been taking Levoxyl for about 2 months now. I have never felt like this before, EVER. I have experienced severe depression, emotional chaos, loss of libido, and weight gain (despite every diet and weight-loss gimick). I had no idea that this drug could have such side effects. I had been taking Synthroid; however, it was just as bad. I need some suggestions as to what medication I need to try because this just isn't working. Please email me at ****** with any suggestions, or similar experiences. Thank you.

Extreme fatigue /bordering on Narcilepsy- falling asleep while driving or at work sitting in my chair. Weight gain despite all efforts (working out and eating right). Rapid, pounding heartbeat. Can't concentrate -easily distracted.
Period is irregular and very heavy during some days.
I have told my doctor about these symptoms but she says there isn't much she can do. I have to wait until I see a specialist. It has taken me 3 months to get in to see one. If the specialist says that I have to keep taking this drug, I will stop taking it and find another doctor.

I've been on Levoxyl (.05) for 7 months now. I feel very anxious on the inside - sometimes like i'm going to explode. Since I've been on this drug, i've also experienced a full-head feeling (sometimes turning to bad headaches) - i worry & stress more - weight gain - achy joints etc. I'm afraid to stop taking it because of my thyroid. Sometimes i just feel "flat" - not interested in doing anything. I've never experienced this "down" feeling in my life - never had a problem with it (until on this drug). Recently my doctor has put me on an anti-depressant (5 mg) - i am trying it - so far, i feel the same, only more anxious and eating less - i know this isn't an aide to my problem.
Maybe this drug works for others (as everyone's different), but i feel stuck between a rock & a hard place in my case. I relate to alot of the other emails. Hope there is a solution.

I have been on Levoxyl (50mcg) for two weeks. I had terrible symptoms before--tingling hands, feet, and face; weight gain; joint paint; loss of concentration; extreme fatigue; and dry skin. I'm already feeling better. Is it possible that the people who are having bad side effects have been misdiagnosed or given the wrong dosage?

I have been on Levoxyl for 2 years. At first I lost weight, but then I started gaining and bloating like crazy. My doctor upped my does to 75 mg and that has made my hair fall out like crazy. I have bald spots on top. I am going to take myself off against my doctors orders. This is a horrible drug and should be taken off the market. Does anyone have any suggestions. If I do not take anything, I gain weight like crazy and am very tired. Please help. Send emails to bcioma@peoplepc.com Thanks.

I was put on levoxyl at 14 because i had thyroid cancer and had lost 90 percent of my thyroid.
-- By asnyder1123 | Reply | Private Message meI myself have not had any serious side effects from the medication. When I forget to take it I feel completely empty, slow and my mood is irritable. I strongly suggest those of you who are having these problem to adjust your dosage. I have a fantastic doctor with a lot of experience, and he himself has had thyroid cancer and knows firsthand.
Too much will make you sick and too little will cause weight gain or weight loss, energy loss and etc.; all direct results of thyroid issues, not levoxyl
