I am a 43 year old male in good health that decided to get off lipitor about 3 days ago due to the advice of my physician. I have been on it for 3 years at 20 mg daily. I am an avid runner completing 3 marathons in the last 4years, but lately haven't been able to run more than a mile or so without feeling tightness in my abs, legs, hips, and most recently my hands and elbows have mild to moderate pain. I've been noticing this over the past few months or so. I always thought it was due to over training, but I am convinced these are not normal muscle soreness/strain and I am eager to share my results as to how I feel in a few weeks/months. Today, which is day 3 without the drug, I have INCREASED pain in my hand, and an overall fatigue feeling. Has anyone else noticed this upon stopping the drug? God help all of us. This can't be doing mankind any good other than making the drug companies rich, and unfortunately, most physicians believe that these statins are wonder drugs, and prescribe them like candy.

Hi ..this is a follow up on my first posting of Jan 31 (see kookoo). I have been off Lipitor (20mg/day) for about 6 weeks now and I feel better than before but nowhere near normal yet. Hands are stronger but weakness in arms still persists. I have not had a bad tremor incident in about 2 or more weeks. But I have a lot of involuntary twitching and light burning in my arm muscles. I constantly feel like I have a stiff sore neck and the fatigue is unbearable some days. My neurologist (my hero since he is the only one who believes this is statin related) has sent me for additional tests like EMG, MRI and thoracic vascular scan to eliminate other causes. So far all my tests have come back within normal ranges. I still cannot exercise much because when I try it seems to trigger the burning and pain in my arms. Night time is very scary to me for all my symptoms seem to heighten and I think this brings on some added anxiety which leads to sleeplessness. Well I fired my primary care physician and am scheduled to see someone new next week. Hopefully she will listen to me more intently and have some beneficial suggestions. Hang in everyone, I have to believe we are on the right track and soon someone with some sense will finally listen and do something about these terrible statin drugs. KOOKOO

I have terrible ringing in my ears which never stops. The pain in both of my feet is excruciating to the point of tears every day every moment. My joints in my hands are crippling. There is pain in my shoulders and arm muscles. I have not been able to sleep through a night without waking up in severe pain. If this is how one feels with lower cholesterol, then what is the point? I am mad at myself for never questioning or doing any homework prior to beginning this or any drug but trust me, I am a quick learner and this will never happen again. I just pray I haven't ignored the symptoms too long.

I am almost 50 and have had high cholesterol for at least 19 years. I have taken various statins as prescribed by my doctors, including Zocor, Lipitor, and Crestor with mixed results. Although my numbers came down, my left arm muscles withered, coordination through out my body deteriorated, pain and numbness in hands and feet became constant, my liver began to fail, and I became aphasic. The entire time I was on statins of any kind I felt like I was poisoned. I have refused statins for 2 years and have made remarkable progress back to good health. I find it interesting that the man who invented the artificial heart peddles Lipitor so vigorously, especially since Lipitor is so effective at damaging muscle tissue.

I have been on Lipitor 7 years plus and lately my arm muscles ache so bad I thought it was artritis or something. Took all kind of OTC meds and rubs. heat and ice wraps and to no avail did this help. I finally called the doctor and they told me to come off the lipitor for about 2 weeks and call then back with my symptons. It has only been 1 day now but found this site and want to know could the muuscle ache been from Lipitor? I mean I have been on it for so long now you would think my body would be use to it. I can't even hold my arm up over my head and it hurts so bad.
