I'm a woman, about to turn 50.....and have been experimenting with the statins for about two months(not by choice either). I tried Zocor and had a stop that after 10 days because of massive hair loss. Once stopped....the hair loss stopped immediately. Just a ill more than a month later I started on Lipitor. All seemed to be going ok. NO hair loss. BUT.......mannnnn I don't sleep hardly at all. I'm tired beyond all belief......and its that bone deep OMG I'm sooooo exhausted type tired. I often times don't eat an evening meal after work because I seriously don't think I cant stand long enough to make anything. My legs feel as though they cannot move another inch. I have horrible cramps in my fingers.....the calf of both legs and now in my rib area. Ive had horrible horrible blurred vision.....my attention span is about as long as a gnat!!!!! I seem to have an all over bone deep body ache. It gets to the point that if MOVING A MUSCLE would save my life........Id have to die sitting still....I cant do it. The every day you wake up in the morning headache is way beyond OLD. I also notice I'm nauseous and or have a gut ache almost all the time. Its effectively killing my appetite so maybe I'll lose weight, but damn..is this the way to do it?

WHY wont the doctors believe that this damn drug is responsible?

My Saga began years ago when I had high cholesterol at 25 years old.
At 39 my doctor started me on Lipitor and I didn't stay on it.(no reason)
Now at 45(200 LDL) and at the urging of my father I have been on Lipitor for 24 days. He is on crestor. My father had open heart surgery at 41 and a second bypass at 55. He takes about 30 nitros a day at age 74. His brother died at 55 and father at 56, both heart attacks. So you see his concern for me, though being a female does help me.
Anyway at the time of my physical a swollen lymph node was found
on my neck. It has been there for over a month now and we have done
CT scans, mammograms & blood work . I will have a biopsy in 2 weeks on my neck. Everything has come back normal, however the pain in my
stomach started two weeks into the Lipitor. Also difficulty swallowing
like a chest infection. I lost five pounds not being able to eat much and constantly would get so bloated eating just soup. I went back to my doctor she sent me for a CT scan because lymph node issue too. Scary.
I had a biopsy on one breast as well because we are doing all these test for the lymph node swelling.
Well I have been popping Ibuprofen 600mg at a time to stop what feels like liver pain. I had hepatitis A so I know what that feels like. The pain was all over my top abdomen. I am starting to worry even more thinking I may have lymphoma. I start getting pain running down the inside of my right leg and the calf also. I spent 10 years in the Army reserve and was always fairly in shape so this was so out of the blue. I decided to go to and internal doctor because I was getting nothing from the family doctor and we still have the lymph node issue (swollen) He immediately said
stop taking the Lipitor after hearing my symptons. I still have to have a
biopsy on my neck but I am convinced Lipitor caused all the pain in my
stomach and fatigue. My doctor seems to think so too. Don't stay with a doctor that isn't aware of a drugs side effects. Definitely shop around. I hope to post again when my symptons disappear and my lymph node comes back negative.!

I am 53 years old and have been on 10 mg of Lipitor for at least 5 years. For the past 3 years I have been experiencing tight muscles in my back and muscle spasms on my right side. I have had the following tests done - all of which came back negative: CT scan, Ultrasound, MRI, gall bladder scan, kidney scan, pelvic exam, even had a colonoscopy (that sucked), and went for physical therapy which the therapist said I had weakness on my right side. The doctor never even suggested to stop taking Lipitor but after reading these posts, I'm stopping myself.

Been on 20 mg. Lipitor for 4 years. It brought my total cholesterol down from 290 to 190. Tolerated it well for awhile, then I started dragging. Last year, started having ringing in ears, dizziness and fatigue. Had MRI, MRA, heart CT scan, blood work, etc. and they could find nothing wrong. I have suspected Liptitor for awhile, but doctor was so proud that my cholesterol was going down, he wanted to increase dosage to 40 mg., I tried it for a week and felt worse. He told me to reduce it back to 20 mg. But now, I feel so bad with extreme debilitating fatigue and nausea. The ringing in my ears is driving me crazy. I have talked to several people who told me they felt the same way on Lipitor and when they got off, the felt so much better. I hate to give up the progress of getting my cholesterol down, but at what price? I just hope it gets out of my system real quick. Will try to keep cholesterol down by eating more healthy foods (I love red meat and fried chicken).

My husband, age 49, was prescribed and began taking Lipitor about 6 weeks ago. 4 days ago he woke up and couldn't remember our daughters names. Even worse, when I told him their names, they didn't even ring a bell to him. It took a couple hours for his memory to return.

He's been in a fog and "just not feeling right" for the past 4 days. After seeing the Dr. today, the Dr. ordered a stat CT scan fearing my husband had experienced a mini stroke or worse.

After thinking long and hard about what could be happening, it hit me that it could be the Lipitor. After searching the internet, I see cognitive and loss of memory side effects are being reported by those on Lipitor. Why aren't Dr's warning their patients...especially when they come to the Dr. with those exact symptoms?

My husband is done with Statin drugs. We will work on diet, exercise and he'll take his chances with high cholesterol. If only someone had warned us.

I have been taking Lipitor for the last year. Recently I started to have stomach pains on the right side. An ultra sound revealed that I had developed cysts on my liver.
I had a CT scan this week which confirmed the cysts, and also a thickening of my stomach walls.
I had a colonoscopy and upper GI, and everything checked out ok but they took a biopsy of my stomach lining.
Even though I had low cholesterol my doctor prescribed Lipitor as a preventative drug. I strongly urge people to discontinue its use. I exercise daily, am a vegetarian, and have a low stress job. I have always been very healthy. This is the first time I have a problem.

I am a 54 year old female that was put on Lipitor in 2004. I started feeling like I was crippled up from arthritis in my legs and hips about a year later. It came on so gradually, I never associated it with the Lipitor. I had an MRI and CT scan and nothing could be found. This past Spring, I went back to Dr. and saw different Dr. in practice. I told him I hadn't been able to walk well in a year and it felt like my legs were rubber and they ached all the time. I walk 2 hours a day and have for 10 years because I have 2 large dogs that need exercise. This was getting almost impossible to do. The Dr. asked me if I was taking Lipitor and I said yes and he told me to get off of the drug. I noticed a huge difference within 2 weeks of stopping Lipitor. I feel like a million dollars again and even the shape of my thighs has changed. Everyone is asking me if I've lost weight. Never again!!!! I'll try natural remedies or take my chances. What good is living longer if you can't even walk normally?

Lipitor has caused me serious colon problems. I was having severe cramping and bowel movements. The colon contractions were so severe that I would begin vomiting, even though I was not nauseated. After 2 or 3 hours of these bouts, occurring every 1 to 3 days, I would be so weak I would have to go to bed. Then severe weakness overtook my entire system. I have no appetite and have lost 19 pounds since January. Food has no taste and after forcing eating, I don't want anything else to eat after 3 bites. CT scan showed severe edema in the cecum and descending colon plus diffuse inflammation of remainder of the colon. Quit taking Lipitor and cramping subsided almost immediately, but now have almost constant diarrhea. I WILL NEVER TAKE STATINS AGAIN!!!

Started Lipitor 40mg. in April 2004, am 52 years of age, female. October 2004, woke up with head pressure on left side, ear pressure left side only, neck and shoulder pain. Also spasms on one side of head. This got worse. Had CT scan, chest x-rays, sinus x-rays, saw a Neurologist and no one could find a problem. Dec 2004 had to go on antibotics for a mild infection and had to discontinue the Lipitor for 10 days. I noticed during this time, my neck and shoulder improving and had pressure less pronounced, but still unable to sleep on left side. I am frustrated and am happy by nature, but been getting depressed over this.
Resumed the Lipitor in January 2005 and although my signs were not completely gone, I got bad again, and returned to another doctor. On Feb 22, 2005, I am scheduled for a carotid doppler test. I came accross this board last night. And didn't take my Lipitor, today, I dont have the head pressure, and I am hoping my ear pressure with noise leave. I can't sleep on my left side yet due to the head pressure and I am hoping by me discontinuing Lipitor that I will one day beable to lay on my left side again.
I sure hope that this solves my "mysterious" aliment. Either way, I shall NEVER take a Lipitor pill again.

OH man. I am so glad I found this site.
I STARTED TAKING LIPITOR A YEAR AGO. ABOUT 10 WEEKS AGO I WOKE UP WITH A BACK PAIN SO BAD I COULDN'T WALK, MY RIGHT SIDE HURT FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY RIBS ALL THE WAY DOWN TO MY LEG. i FIRST WENT TO A CHIROPRCATIC DR. HE ADJUSTED MY BACK BUT SIDE & HIP STILL HURT. SO I WENT TO MY DR WHO SAID IT'S NOT THE LIPITOR. I HAD A SONAGRAM & A CT SCAN NOTHING SHOWED. I QUIT THE LIPATOR 3 DAYS AGO. THE CHIROPRACTIC DR HAS PUT ME ON A LIVER & GALBLADDER FLUSH. I WONDER IF ANYONE ELSE HAS THE HIP,SIDE & BACK PAIN. I WONDER IF I'LL EVER BE ABLE TO WALK OR STAND WITHOUT PAIN. IT HURTS SO BAD TO LAY DOWN FOR MORE THAN A FEW HOURS, TURNING IN BED IS A REAL JOB. I'D LIKE TO HEAR FROM YOU. i'M 51 GRANDMOTHER OF 13.

Hello all. Sorry for everyones problems, but glad I am not alone. I've been on Lipitor for a couple years now, 10mg.
I have been going to my doctor for pretty much the same symptoms you are all describing. Memory loss, confusion, dizziness, anxiety attack, depression, can't concentrate on anything. I had blood work done. A CT Scan of the brain. Went to a neurologist. All tests came back fine. I know that there is something wrong with me.
Now I think I know what it is. No more lipitor for me.

Are these "memory" side effects permanent?
