I am 47 and have been on Lipitor now for about 7 months. For the last week or so, I have been experiencing upper shoulder, neck, and elbow pain. I passed it off as possibly the way that I sit at my computer. 1 week ago I went to the doctor to have the normal liver blood tests and she (the PA) asked if I had been experiencing any pain in my legs. At the time I didn't, and I didn't think anything of asking about my upper shoulder and neck problems, so I said "No, I feel fine".
Now today, I have been experiencing a constant twitch (for the lack of a better term) in my left foot. It's not like a normal twitch, in fact when my husband asked me to describe the sensation, I said that it felt like my nerve endings were twitching. I have also had a lot of dull headaches lately (which is very uncommon for me). I decided to search for Lipitor side effects and found this site. The thing that worries me more than anything is that my mom (which is 80 years old) has been on Lipitor now for approximately 4 years. She complained of her knees hurting but, chalked it up to her age. She contacted the doctor and he said that it wouldn't cause the kind of pain she was describing. It was most likely due to her age. I am so thankful I found this site and that everyone has taken the time to share their story. I am hoping that there is a healthier alternative. I read somewhere (maybe this site) to start taking CoQ10 and Vitamin C to reduce your cholesterol naturally. Hope this helps. Also, your natural CoQ10 is reduced considerably when taking statins. Thank you to everyone that has posted here. If I hear anything new I will let you know. God Bless and best wishes to everyone.

I am 36 years old and have been on Lipitor 40 for about 5 years. Over time, I have noticed it very difficult to concentrate and focus. I am always dragging, and my shoulders, neck and legs always ache. I guess I chalked most of it up to getting old. But recently, I started to get burining, shooting pains in my left elbow area (doctor says tennis elbow). After doing a little research - I was shocked to find that almost every symptom that I have- can be related back to Lipitor. I stopped taking it for a few weeks, and I started to feel a little better. I stopped because I couldn't afford it. Once I was able to refill my prescription- the same issues started again. I think that I am going to stop it for good, and document changes in my body. Hopefully for the better

Wow-reading everyone's side effects scares me to death. I was just prescribed lipitor-I am a 44 yr.old female with vascular disease in my family(dad had diabetes and Congestive heart failure, mom-stroke). I have not taken the meds yet for fear of the side effects and being told I would be on this med for the rest of my life. I know I can lose the pounds and lower my cholestrol(which was not alarming to the doc if I had not had heart disease in the family). What has happened to those of you that stopped taking the lipitor? Were you prescribed another med?

My husband, My mom and myself was put on lipitor and all suffered the same symptoms.. such as flu like symptoms, severe legs pain, sleeplesness, neck and shoulder pain. My mother suffers the worst she still can't get up from a sitting posistion without help, she gets paralyzed on one side of her body, she cant hold her arms over her head and her hand eye coordination is off which causes her to fall often. I quit taking the meds when they took my mother off, because her liver test was abnormal after taking the drug for a period of time. Now my doctor put me back on the med because my cholestural level 289 and its supposed to be 100 because I had double by-pass surgery, and the pro's outweighed the cons. The leg pains are worse now that im back on the medication again, is this symptom of lipitor?

My mom was on Lipitor for 2 yrs and chose to get off of it. Several weeks ago she got increasingly week in her legs and arms to where now she cannot walk. I have her in a wheelchair and seeing several doctors. The most recent Dr seems to be very dedicated. She's had so many tests and it is discouraging. They are not sure but think she has dermatomyositis. Her legs are with sores which look like a bad case od dermatititis. Is there any cure ahead? What do you recommend we do next? This registry is a place to share positive or negative side effects of using Lipitor. If you directly experienced a side effect while using Lipitor, then we encourage you to enter it here. Please note that entries here are the experiences of individual users, and in no way means that you or anyone else will experience the same side effect, since the same medication affects people in different ways. Just checking in again. Wrote about my dad,(Feb. 08 and May 1st) 77 yo white male, had been on Lipitor 7 years. After my mom passed away I got involved with his health. Read so much about the side effect of Lipitor - finally convinced him to GET OFF LIPITOR ASAS- he has been off since Feb. 4, 2008 and is slowly getting back to where he should be. About 85-90% better than he was 6 months ago. It is a shame that my he and my mom were bot able to do things last summer because he felt so bad. (He had muscle aches, spasms in his wrists, joint aches, bad nightmares, tossing and turning. Although he was also being treated for arthritis, his blood and xray showed none!) PLEASE take the first step and get off this drug - call your pharmacist if you are not sure, tell them your side effects.
