I was given 40mg Lipitor for elevated cholesterol. I took it until I started having muscle weakness .I am a retired nurse of twenty five years, and knew this symptom was not correct. So I stopped taking the medication and told my doctor of this.He did not protest in any way.My symptoms now include;two torn ligaments, sob, mental deficits, muscle wasting, night sweats, weakness,h/a's, and more. I have not taken Lipitor for two years now. Damage is done.My doctor said it should be out of my system by now. Is this a cover up?

I am sitting hear reading these replays and crying because I am suffering the same symptoms. I have been on lipitor for over 5 years and have had repeated bouts of leg pains, head fogginess, dizziness, pain in thigh, hip, and back. I recently started having pains so bad i could not walk. The really sad part is that I am a nurse and should have known it was the lipitor. I had x-rays, ct scans, etc all negative. And today a light finally went off when I said maybe its a side effect from lipitor. And sure enough, looking at the stories here validates my late conclusion. I did not take dosage of lipitor today and will try some more natural remedies. I have scheduled to see my doctor on Wednesday to discuss this issue. Unfortunately I can barely walk without the usages of crutches. Sitting can be just horrible, i wake up in middle of night tossing and turning trying to find a position that the pain will stop in. I cry like a baby at times because of pain and maybe a little depression. This is horrible. Lipitor is an awesome drug in lowering your cholesterol but the side effects are just unbearable. I will continue to update.

Let me begin by telling you that I am a nurse with 28 years experience. My father is 76 years old with a history of cardiac problems. He has been on Lipitor for 8 years. In the past two months he has developed muscle pain that had gotten to the point he could hardly walk. His doctor diagnosed him with "arthritis." His joints did not hurt and I questioned his diagnosis. What he has is fibromyalgia. Muscle dysfunction caused by Lipitor. We have taken him off of the drug and he is improving. In place of Lipitor he now takes 2000 milligrams of vitamin C daily. Vitamin C is a natural way to control cholesterol. In my opinion I suggest anyone taking symvistatin in any form should stop immediately. It is a very dangerous drug. If you think this is what you have please request your physician order the following two tests.....CPK and serum myogluten levels. Cholesterol is very important to muscle function and that is why it is produced by the body. Zocor, Lipitor, ( symvistatin) inhibits the production thus lowering the level. Let me add that prior to this condition onset my dad was riding his bike 3 plus miles a day and could out walk me any day of the week. This drug has disabled him. We are hoping for a full recovery but that is yet to be seen.
Thank you ******

Been taking Lipitor for several years. I am 51
Tired all the time. Don't feel like exercising at all. since I got a flu shot have been experiencing sharp pain in upper arm near and including shoulder.
Taking Lipitor, 40 mg qd.
The arm pain feels like it's near the bone.
The only other explanation for the pain I can think of was the nurse hit a nerve when giving me the flu vaccine.
Otherwise I fear it may be from the Lipitor. I told my doctor about it. He made no response whatsoever. not even to suggest any further tests, x-rays etc. to see what might be causing the pain. Gave me free samples of...you guessed it...more Lipitor.
At next appointment I will tell him the pain is still there (3 months).
If he does nothing then I will stop taking the Lipitor and take my chances.

Shortly after starting the lipitor I developed hand pain mostly my fingers and especially my thumbs. I stopped the Lipitor and the pain in my hands and finger went away except for my thumbs. I have a trigger thumb which I can bend with a great deal of pain on my right hand and my left hand has now developed a trigger thumb as well. I am wondering if anyone else has experienced this type of side effect as my doctor feels it is just coincidence and that I have developed arthritis. I have not had any arthritic pain in my hands until now.

I'm a 66 year old nurse taking Lipitor 10 mg for approximately 4 years. I have not had any problems until last when I suffered a severe anxiety attack and went to the ER. This has never happened to me before. All tests were negative. I was given Xanax which relieved the anxiety at that time , but I 'm continuing to experience a lot of anxiety. I came across some info that low cholesterol levels can be related to anxiety. My total cholesterol
is 130 and the LDL is 71. I have no cardiac conditions other than hypertension. I stopped taking Lipitor a couple of days ago, but so far I have not had any change in condition. Dr ordered Zoloft for the anxiety but I had bad reactions after taking 2 pills.-severe nervousness, anxiety , and restlessness. I'm hoping I feel better when the cholesterol levels go up.

I began taking Lipitor in early 2006 - I'm a 54 yo woman. During the summer I wasn't working & noticed weakness in my limbs to the point of sometimes having to struggle to stand up from lying down. After getting down on the floor, I had to push myself up on a piece of furniture. While visiting family out of town last week, I couldn't keep up with my 80 yo aunt. I knew something was wrong. I've also experienced dizziness, aching joints & tingling and numbness in the balls of my feet. I called my Dr. when I got home & left a message that I wanted to stop taking Lipitor. The nurse said the Dr. wasn't convinced the problems were caused by the drug but that I could try going off it for 6 weeks. A week later I'm pretty much back to normal. I'll NEVER take statins again. I'm eating lots of oatmeal & looking for other alternatives.

My husband has been taking statins for +15 years, dose of lipotor increased from 10-20 then 40mg to achieve satisfactory levels. Very slowly he became very depressed, developed muscle weakness, lathrgy and then became juandice. with excessive night sweats. He then stopped lipotor and commenced zorcor his symptoms of juandice and night sweats returned and so he has stopped that to. After 2 months he still has a night sweat if he has a glass of wine (he is not an excessive drinker!) but at least i feel like i have got my husband back. What naturel product will lower his cholestral levels? he has a good diet (i am a nurse) but a poor family history of this problem and heart attacks.

I began taking Liptor on March 12, 2005, which is the day I had my heart attack. I have taken myself off of it on Nov. 3, 2005. Even during my cardiac rehab I had pain down my right leg and right foot. The nurse said is was from the surgery of going into the groin and putting two stents in my heart. However, on two occassions I've had chest pain and had to be hospitalized and the leg and foot was still bothering me. Now both my feet hurt very badly that I find it difficult to even walk around in a grocery store. I've went to a new cardiologist they did blood work and my LDL was 107 and my HDL was 47, making my total choleserol of 195. At one time, the total cholesterol guideline was s up with that?

The cardiologists need to listen to their patients and not worry about how much money they are going to make from the drug companies for prescribing all these drugs. Yes, they are fine in the beginning, but down the road all they are bad for you. I am going to find a better way to reduce my cholesterol naturally.
