I am a 56 year old woman and my doctor started me on 10 mg Lisinopril in March. Within 24 hours of starting it I developed a very annoying cough. At my next doctors visit she told me my bp was not down enough and wanted to increase the dosage. When I asked her if the cough could be from the Lisinopril she gave me some samples of Benecar HCT. The only problem I had with that was muscle weakness and some palpitations that went away after a few days. When I got the prescription filled I found that my insurance didn't cover it and it was quite expensive so I called my doctor back and she wanted me to try the Lisinopril again at 20mg and see what happened. That very same night the cough came back with a vengeance, along with dizziness. I decided to try to tough it out but after ten days now the cough is so bad it's unbearable. It keeps me up at night and I cough till I gag and cry. On several occasions I have coughed until I vomited. I couldn't take it any more and stopped taking it two days ago. I called my doctor today and she told me to stop taking it and now we're going to try Norvasc.

I didn't seem to have any side effects until the doctor upped my dose to 20 mg of lisinopril after 7 weeks at 10 mg.Then the gastro-intestinal effects started with gas, constipation and severe cramping for about 2 hours every night.I finally was told to quit the lisinopril and wait until side effects subside to try another approach.I would be interested in find a more natural way to control my HBP other than a drug derived from a pit viper's venom.

Just started 5MG Lisinopril once a day at bedtime (about a week).
After looking up side effects, I found this site. I don't have hbp, never had. I was given this to help protect my kidneys (type1 diabetic). Side effects are: head ache, dizzy, muscle pain in legs and arms, stomach pain... This morning I was helping my daughter find her craft supplies. All of a sudden I was sitting on the floor with no sensation of getting there. I'm stopping this stuff. Google Apple Cider Vinegar uses.

My doctor doesn't listen to me when I tell him that I feel tired when I wake up and get dizzy often when just walking. Today I felt like I was going to faint on the golf course so I quit after only 3 holes. I also have a very low libido and feel depressed. I have trouble clearing my throat at bedtime and have trouble going to sleep. I am going to stop taking this drug today.

I took this medicine, 10 mg, for 30 days then went back to the doctor. I had absolutely no side effects so the dr. gave me a 3 month prescription. So I began taking the refilled lisinopril and within 2 weeks, I could hardly function. I got progressively more tired and had odd headache and feeling like I was sleep deprived for days. I almost wrecked my car, as I was so tired I could not think. It took me a while to figure out it was the medicine so I stopped it and the next day I felt like my old self. So I decided I would take it at bedtime but the effects still hung on during the day. Then my husband and I went out of town and he is on the same medicine only 20 mg, (he has no side effects) so I had my 10 mg and gave him 2 of them. Within 1 hour he was dizzy, lightheaded, sick to his stomach and felt awful. What is up with this? So now I am stumped. I cut one of his 20 mg in half and had no side effects at all.

I have been on lisinopril for about 6 months. I take a 10 mg., cut in half at bedtime. My blood pressure immediatly went to about 120 over 75. My problem is about the time I started lisinopril a sleep problem appeared. I can only sleep 2 to 3 hours at a time. I wake up exhausted and seldom ever sleep over 4 hours in a row. I am always tired and a 20 minute nap does help. My doctor recommended sleeping pills, but not much help there and maybe thats worse. Can you help with any suggestions. Thank you. Fred

I take the 5MG MYLAN, one tablet at bedtime. My only side effect, after about three weeks is a dry cough which comes and goes during the day. My Dr said if the cough was very consistant he would change my prescription, but the cough occurs about twice during the day so I have chosen, thus far, to tolerate it, considering the good it hjas done for my blood pressure.

Anyone developed heartburn? I'm a 54-yr-old male, fairly good health, borderline high BP. Been on Lisinopril about 14 months. When I started taking it I developed the dry, tickling cough, especially at bedtime, but it was not really a problem. Also noticed occasional heartburn. For past several weeks cough has been very persistent many times a day, and I have bad heartburn every night. I stopped taking it about 5 days ago and cough is slowly disappearing; heartburn still present. Going back to doctor next week to see about different BP meds. I only saw one other message here mentioning heartburn. Anyone else experienced heartburn from Lisinopril?

Hi again. I wrote in about 10 days ago reporting that I had switched from Diovan to Lisinopril, and suspected Lisinopril was causing increased anxiety/depression. Just to be sure, I ran this past a psychiatrist who confirmed that what happened was a "classic drug reaction". I would take 10mg. lisinopril at bedtime. Within minutes, I would feel wide awake and agitated. I could not "turn off", even though I was tired. It would take some time to get to sleep. (The last few days that I took the drug, I paced circles around the house until the wee hours of the morning!) During the day I felt confused and anxious, and in the late evenings felt emotionally and physically exhausted and depressed. I had a hard time solving even simple problems. Then I would take that day's bedtime dose, and the cycle would start over.
After stopping the Lisinopril and switching back to Diovan, I noticed almost immediate improvement. It felt like a fog had lifted. In just a week I was pretty much back to normal. No need for SSRIs! I am not pleased that my insurance company is pushing this drug and plan to voice a complaint and register my concerns. In the meantime, I am paying for the Diovan out of pocket, and will be much more cautious about any future changes!
Best wishes to all...

Goodness, this is an amazing site. Just came to check and see if depression is a side effect of Lisinopril. And what do I find? All my other symptoms. I'm taking it for mitral regurgitation and, after a pacemaker (ICD) implant in Feb., my doctor increased dosage in June from 1.25 mg daily to 5 mg and wants to go up to 10 mg. I also take 25 mg Atenolol for bp (which does the job, and I can't imagine using Lisinopril for high bp).
My symptoms: tired, tired all the time unless I drink lots of coca cola (yes!); sudden onset of narcolepsy (falling asleep) in the late afternoon; feel like I haven't slept; can't get going; feel hopeless, depressed, dizzy at times, can't concentrate, trouble reading, focusing. I'm really not "myself".
So I decided this morning, with a four-fold increase in this drug two months ago, I'd better check it out.
I'm cutting back to 2.5 mg, and taking it at bedtime only. I might as well be an invalid this way. What do others think?
Now I'm off for that Coca Cola to make it through this day!

My tongue got thicker. I was only on Lisinopril for 5 days. I have also had severe leg cramps at bedtime and an episode of feeling disoriented. I went off this drug immediately and will never go back on it. I have never had these kinds of symptoms before.
